Late yesterday, Senator John Kerry (D-MA), bowing to reality, bowed out of the 2008 presidential contest, opting instead to seek reelection to the Senate next year. Yesterday, CNN released a poll showing that 51% of self- identified Democrats did not want Senator Kerry to run again, while only five percent of those polled said they would support him if he did run. In that match-up, Kerry trailed New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton by a whopping 29-points.
While she still leads in national polls for the Democrat nomination, Senator Clinton needs to watch her left flank. Illinois Senator Barack Obama is being feted next month at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel by former Clinton loyalists David Geffen, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffry Katzenberg. The trio reportedly sent an invitation to 700 Hollywood elites on behalf of Obama. Hollywood was a major source of funding for Bill Clinton, and if Obama makes serious inroads in Beverly Hills, Hillary could be in trouble.
