The Daily Brief

1.Obama's 40% 'Cadillac Tax' Repealed in Landslide Vote - Conservative Tribune

The ("Cadillac") tax was widely unpopular on a bipartisan basis from the start, and now the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives has overwhelming voted to repeal the tax, according to The Hill.

The measure passed the House by a margin of 419-6 and will now head to the Republican-controlled Senate.

Perhaps more than any other provision of Obamacare, the Cadillac tax revealed the true goal of the law that overhauled the nation's health care system: wealth redistribution.

The tax overtly punished wealthy businesses and individuals that opted for expensive health insurance policies, with the anticipated revenue raised from the tax intended to be used to cover the health costs of those with sub-par policies or no coverage at all.

Thankfully, that onerous tax was never implemented, and if the Senate will join the House in the repeal, it never will be. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we give You praises for the repeal of this tax on health insurance policies. We ask that You would cause the heart of every righteous man and women to rise up against Obamacare and for them to work together to come up with a solution that benefits the people, not harms them. We pray for the economists who are battling against the repeal to be given divine wisdom of an alternative. We pray for a solution, Abba. We need a healthcare reform, but we want Your reform to be done. In Jesus' name, amen.

- "Many plans are in a man's heart, But the counsel of the LORD will stand."
(Proverbs 19:21)

2. Trump to nominate Gene Scalia, son of late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, for secretary of labor - Fox News

President Trump on Thursday night announced he's nominating attorney Gene Scalia, the son of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, to replace Alex Acosta as secretary of labor.

The surprise move -- which top Republicans privately supported -- was a visible manifestation of the close personal bond Trump has forged with the Scalia family in recent years. The confirmation process for Justice Neil Gorsuch, who ultimately filled Justice Scalia's seat, sparked the connection. (Read more)

- Father, we pray this confirmation of Gene Scalia would move quickly to replace Acosta. We ask for favor in this nomination.

- "May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands." (Psalm 90:17)

3. LGBT asylum-seekers exempt from 'Remain in Mexico' policy and can stay in the US - Washington Examiner

Asylum-seekers who arrive at the southern border and claim to be LGBT are exempt from the U.S.-Mexico "Remain in Mexico" policy and will not be returned to Mexico to await decisions by U.S. immigration judges, several U.S. border officials told Washington Examiner.

"Mexican immigration is not taking anybody back into Mexico under the MPP [Migration Protection Protocols] program that's identifying as part of the LGBT community. If they say they're gay or bisexual, any of those, Mexico won't take them back," one official said.

Rank-and-file officers working at ports of entry as well as agents who process asylum-seekers who have illegally crossed from Mexico and are to be returned south of the border are well aware asylum-seekers who identify as LGBT are not eligible for the program, according to three senior U.S. Customs and Border Protection and National Border Patrol Council officials. The first official suggested the department has kept it hush-hush out of fear non-LGBT people would attempt to exploit the loophole to gain immediate entry because "there is no standard - no way to prove" a person's claim is true or false.

"They really don't want that to get out. And I would imagine the Mexican government doesn't want that to get out either," the first official said. "As soon as everybody has figured out to say, 'I am gay,' then I would imagine that that dirty little secret would be used." (Read more)

- Father, help us with this exemption for those who CLAIM to be LGBT and get to stay in the U.S. Give wisdom on what to do when all asylum-seekers hear about this exemption and start claiming that they are LGBT. Gives us sons of Issachar, who understand the times and know the best course for America to take in this immigration crisis.

- From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take. (1 Chronicles 12:32)

4. 'Hope is Back': Trump Helps Save Christians, Yazidis in Iraq - Breitbart

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is helping bring Christians and Yazidis in Iraq back from the brink of extinction fomented by a genocidal campaign at the hands of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL), religious minority representatives declared this week at the second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom convened by the Department of State.

The U.S. government has officially determined that ISIS committed genocide against Christians, Yazidis, and other religious minorities during its reign of terror in the Middle East that began in 2014, prompting the Trump administration to launch a multi-million-dollar program to help the victims. Several religious leaders and organizations warned that the two groups were facing extinction in the wake of the ISIS genocide.

Echoing Yazidis activists and a U.S.-based Syriac Catholic Iraqi priest who spoke to Breitbart News, a Chaldean Catholic priest from a parish in a Christian Iraqi town indicated that hope for the future along with security improvements have returned to religious minority communities devastated by ISIS, courtesy of the Trump administration efforts.

Yazda is benefiting from the Trump administration's decision to directly assist religious minorities through U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) and faith-based partners instead of paying for U.N. programs that can divert money to other projects, a move praised by the Christians and Yazidis alike. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for this miracle. May the grace and mercy that our nation has now extended to these Yazidi survivors of the ISIS massacres be released to the many other persecuted saints around the world. In Your Name, we pray, amen.

- "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' (Matthew 25:40)

5. Pence Defends Religious Liberty - Gary Bauer

I was honored to be part of a select group at the State Department today, with representatives of 106 countries, to hear Vice President Mike Pence deliver a powerful defense of religious freedom as a fundamental human right that should be protected in every nation.

Sadly, Pence noted that "a stunning 83% of the world's population lives in nations where religious freedom is threatened or even banned." As a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, I can assure you that the challenge is enormous and far worse than most Americans realize.

The vice president called out some of the worst violators, including China, Iran and North Korea. Referring to China, Pence said:

"The United States is engaged in ongoing negotiations and discussions over our trading relations with China and those will continue. But whatever comes of our negotiations with Beijing, you can be assured that the American people will stand in solidarity with the people of all faiths in the People's Republic of China. And we will pray for the day when that they can live out their faith freely without fear of persecution."

The vice president noted that in North Korea possession of a Bible is a capital offense and that regime officials have pledged to "wipe out the seed of Christian reactionaries."

Pence vowed that as the Trump Administration pursues nuclear talks with Kim Jong Un, "the United States will continue to stand for the freedom of religion for all people of all faiths on the Korean peninsula."

You can watch the vice president's speech here.

Yesterday, President Trump met with victims of religious persecution, including Pastor Andrew Brunson, at the White House. You can watch his remarks here.

- Father God, we are so blessed to be able to live in a nation where the freedom of religion is protected. We continue to pray for the persecuted church worldwide, and ask that solid policy can now be established at the global level so that other nations, too, will follow our example. In Your Name, amen.

- "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (I Timothy 2:1,2)

6. Rush: AOC's Trust Fund 'Sugar Daddy' Behind Radicalization of Congress - Conservative Tribune

When one wants to find the real meaning behind a certain situation, then he or she should - as the old adage instructs - "follow the money." In the case of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one doesn't have to travel far to get to the dollars. In fact, the dollars are in AOC's office. Meet her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti.

Rush Limbaugh's theory is that Chakrabarti is the mastermind behind AOC and the other freshmen congresspersons known as "the squad." "He's a trust-fund kid," Limbaugh said speaking of Chakrabarti. "He's using his parents' money to fund her campaign and all of these operations. He's the guy that's directing them. When you heard Pelosi say, 'I don't talk to staff, I don't,' it was him she was referring to."

Limbaugh said Chakrabarti's plan is to fill Congress with super-progressive, left-wing ideologues such as AOC. "His plan is to replace everybody in Congress who's not an uber-radical with an uber-radical," Limbaugh said. "That includes Pelosi." https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/rush-aocs-trust-fund-sugar-daddy-behind-radicalization-congress/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=conservative-brief-WJ&utm_campaign=dailypm&utm_content=western-journal

- Father God, we thank You that the identity of this man is now known, so that we can pray for him and about him. First, we do ask that You forgive him, for he walks in darkness and he knows not what he does. Then, we decree an eviction notice to Saikat Chakrabarti: you may no longer serve anywhere in the U.S. Capitol building. In Jesus' name, amen.

- "This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!'" (Job 38:11)

7. Netanyahu could block visit by anti-Israel lawmakers Omar and Tlaib - World Israel News

Netanyahu could block visit by anti-Israel lawmakers Omar and Tlaib

The prime minister reportedly has authority to bar congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib from entering Israel based on their support for boycotts of the Jewish state. (Read more)

- Father God, we are thankful for how You have worked through Prime Minister Netanyahu. We pray for wisdom and discernment to be given to him regarding the visit of these congresswomen. Show him what he needs to make the correct decision. We also pray for Ilan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. We ask that You bless them, Lord. We ask that You move in their hearts and reveal Your love, Your truth, and Your peace in a way that they have never known. Change their hearts, Oh God, and make them more like You. In the name of Yeshua, amen.

- "Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart." (Jeremiah 24:7- 7)

8. US warship shoots down Iranian drone in strategic Strait of Hormuz - Times of Israel

A US warship on Thursday destroyed an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz after it threatened the ship, US President Donald Trump said. The incident marked a new escalation of tensions between the countries less than one month after Iran downed an American drone and Trump came close to retaliating with a military strike.

In remarks at the White House, Trump blamed Iran for a "provocative and hostile" action and said the US responded in self-defense.

He said the Navy's USS Boxer, an amphibious assault ship, took defensive action after the Iranian aircraft closed to within 1,000 yards of the ship and ignored multiple calls to stand down. (Read more)

- Father God, we continue to ask You to send Your angels to stand guard in the Strait of Hormuz, so that these skirmishes do not ignite into war. We ask continuous, divine wisdom to guide President Trump and his military advisors as they contend with the aggressive actions of Iran. In Your Name we pray, amen.

- " . . . for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous." (Psalm 37:17)

9. Pray for Israel as Fires Rage Throughout the Country; Towns Evacuated - Breaking Christian News

Evacuations took place in several locations, including the towns of Aderet, Neve Michael and Roglit near Jerusalem, Or Yehuda near Tel Aviv, near the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa and in Shavei Shomron in Samaria.

Temperatures in Israel reached as high as 122 degrees Fahrenheit before easing around 5 p.m., which enabled Fire and Rescue Services-which had cancelled all vacations and called up all firefighters-to overcome most of the blazes.

Winds were strong throughout parts of the day, leading fires to spread quickly and forcing firefighting planes and helicopters to stay grounded.

Magen David Adom emergency medical services reported that over 120 people were treated for heat stroke, dehydration, exhaustion and fainting, with seven people treated for mild smoke inhalation. (Read more)

- Abba, we come before You with praise and thanksgiving for Your mercy and faithfulness. We ask You to please stop the fires in Israel. Please rain down Your Shalom over the land and the people. We ask that You bring cooler temperatures and rain to the land. We ask for Your hand of protection for all medical professionals, firefighters, and victims. We pray for quick healing and peace over their bodies and minds. We pray in the mighty name of Yeshua, amen.

- "May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you . . ." (Psalm 20:1)

10. Chaplain launches war on 'darker' spirits in House - WND

Sessions of Congress have opened with prayer since the nation's founding. So the fact there was a prayer by Rev. Patrick Conroy, a Jesuit priest who serves as U.S. House chaplain, to open Thursday's House session wasn't unusual. The subject of the prayer was.

Business Insider reported he sought the removal of the "darker spirits," asking God to "cast out the spirit of petty divisiveness."

Conroy told CNN he was on the House floor earlier this week amid the infighting and "felt like there was something going on beyond just political disagreement."

"While Conroy often invokes God to provide wisdom and aid to House members, he rarely mentions the darker side of the supernatural," the report said. (Read more)

> > > Please note: the text of Father Conroy's prayer is quoted in the next article, below.

- Father God, we thank You for the courage shown by our House Chaplain in speaking these words before the chamber yesterday morning. May the light of this decree dispell the forces of darkness that have created so much confusion in that chamber in recent days. In Your name, amen.

- "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12)

The Prayer of the House Chaplain

The Prayer of the House Chaplain, Father Patrick Conroy

Delivered on the Floor of the House Chamber

Thursday, July 18, 2019

The following is the text of Chaplain Conroy's Prayer:

"This has been a difficult and contentious week in which darker spirits seem to have been at play in the people's House. In your most holy name, I now cast out all spirits of darkness from this chamber. Spirits not from You," he said.

"I cast out the spirit of discouragement, which deadens the hope of those who are of good will," he added. "I cast out the spirit of petty divisiveness, which clouds the sense and the desire to be of fruitful productivity in addressing the issues more appropriately before this House. I cast out any sadness brought on by the frustration of dealing with matters detrimental to the honorable work each member has been called to engage in."

He asked for God, the author of human rights according to the Founders, to "anoint your servants here in the House with a healing balm to comfort and renew the souls of all in this assembly."

He prayer: "May your spirit of wisdom and patience descend upon all so that any spirit of darkness might have no place in our midst."

- WE AGREE! AMEN!

Racism vs Socialism

This is the account of Associated Press summing up the past few days of political demagoguery: "In the process, they have created a fraught political frame: "racists" vs. "socialists." Trump's aggressive condemnation of women of color in Congress has allowed House Democrats to mend, for now, their own political divisions as they put the president on record with a resolution condemning his words as racist. But by pushing the House majority into the arms of the squad of liberal freshman women, Trump also adds to his narrative that Democrats have a "socialist" agenda, a story line he started to bring into focus during his State of the Union address." Trouble is, this narrative is seeded in a tremendously flawed assumption.

That assumption is that if you disagree with a person of color, you are a racist. This is totally false. According to AP, and quite frankly the mainstream media, President Trump aggressively condemned women of color in Congress. This is not true because it is a blanket statement. Trump did not condemn women of color in Congress. To say so is to prove positive the socialist agenda which, in part, is to label anyone who disagrees with their nonsense as a racist, bigot, homophobe, bully, Islamophobe, misogynist, white supremism or whatever other derogatory label they can conjure. This way, they take every issue and provide a label for those who disagree with it. Although he could have articulated it better, Trump's attack was against four communists in Congress who happened to be women of color.
Which brings us to the other assumption the press is making about socialism being a campaign issue. The fact is that the Democratic Party platform is socialist. That these four women in Congress are even slightly embraced by the Democratic leadership is a testimony to the socialist nature of the Democratic Party leadership. Anti-Semitic remarks, crazy allegations about illegal immigrants having to drink toilet water, support of Islamic extremism, bigotry against white males, and the list goes on and on from these four women in Congress. Lies, propaganda, hypocrisy, are their currency as they trade in political intolerance and ideological bigotry. The news media and social media tech giants, which generally support a socialist agenda, are their mouthpieces.
The Democrats are going to make racism or any other "ism" the center of their upcoming campaign. They will use the resolution condemning Trump as a racist to extend the notion that anyone who supports Trump is also a racist. This is a false narrative. The threat of communism/socialism, however, is very real. The Democrat leadership tries to downplay it, but their actions and words confirm it. The trouble is Americans of voting age have been dumbed down about the threat of communism so much that they may not take the threat seriously, while no one wants to be labeled a racist. So you can see that deception is the foundation of the political agenda ahead. Let us be mindful of Ephesians 5:6, "Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience."

Have a blessed and powerful day,

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER "Pray continually." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Lyrics

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father's throne Make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, My soul has often found relief And oft escaped the tempter's snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! The joys I feel, the bliss I share, Of those whose anxious spirits burn With strong desires for thy return! With such I hasten to the place Where God my Savior shows His face, And gladly take my station there, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless. And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I'll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! May I thy consolation share, Till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height, I view my home and take my flight: This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise To seize the everlasting prize; And shout, while passing through the air, "Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government.
