Focus on Israel

1. At summit with Russia, Israel and US demanded Iran leave Lebanon, Iraq - report - Times Of Israel

During a trilateral meeting between the national security advisers of Israel, the US and Russia in late June, Jerusalem and Washington demanded that Moscow ensure the withdrawal of Iran's forces from Lebanon and Iraq, as well as from Syria, Channel 13 news reported Tuesday.

The demand was seen as a condition for US and Israeli support for a long-term arrangement to secure peace in war-ravaged Syria.

US National Security Adviser John Bolton and his Israeli counterpart Meir Ben-Shabbat specifically mentioned Iran's construction of precision missile facilities for Hezbollah in Lebanon, and its arming of Shiite militias in Iraq with long-range missiles capable of reaching Israel.

2. IDF home front to beef up 20 strategic sites, fearing Hezbollah rockets - World Israel News

The Home Front Command of the Israel Defense Forces announced it will protect roughly 20 infrastructure sites throughout the country from Hezbollah missile attacks, Ha'aretz reported on Tuesday.

Israeli intelligence says the terror group will likely target the strategic sites in order to negatively affect Israel's capabilities.

The sites haven't yet been identified but include properties under the authority of the Israel Electric Corporation and the Israel Natural Gas Lines. Ha'aretz reports that the intelligence assessments, together with a 2016 State Comptroller report that found such facilities were underprotected, were what prompted the move by the Home Front Command. Defensive measures will include reinforced concrete walls, stronger ceilings, and stronger doors to protect against shrapnel.

3. Defunded and sidelined, Israel's diplomats threaten to harm the state they serve - Times of Israel

Less admired than muddied combat soldiers or smooth intelligence operatives, the Israeli public tends to imagine diplomats as spoiled suits who do nothing but conduct polite conversations at fancy cocktail receptions.

But forget champagne; these days the Foreign Ministry doesn't even have money for coffee.

That, at least, is what the ministry's Workers Union claims. Lamenting poor pay and an ever-shrinking budget, the union has once again ceased providing basic consular services and is threatening to disrupt Israel's diplomacy, including a planned trip to Tokyo by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in protest of the ongoing erosion of their professional home.

Perhaps more importantly, the diplomats' current labor sanctions aim to hurt Israel's economy by sabotaging million-dollar arms deals and jeopardizing lucrative flight routes, according to the Workers Union.

4. Dispute in Old City endangers Israel's relations with Russia - YNET News

The National Security Council is to discuss Tuesday the intention of the Ateret Cohanim organization, that works to settle Jews in the Old City of Jerusalem and East Jerusalem, to evacuate tenants from two buildings it recently acquired from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in the capital.

The deal included two hotels - Imperial and Petra - located near Jaffa Gate, and another building near Herod's Gate, and was revealed in Yedioth Ahronoth last Friday.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, initially denied the sale ever took place and said it involved acts of bribery and was illegitimate; however, both the Jerusalem District Court and recently the Supreme Court denied their claims and approved the legality of the sale.

In Yedioth Ahronoth's reporting, it was revealed that former manager of the Petra Hotel, Ted Bloomfield, had received funds for years from the Ateret Cohanim organization in order to push for the deal to take place, and holds recording that prove it. In light of this new evidence, the Greek Patriarchy means to file a request to cancel the earlier verdict.

5. Archaeologists Find Fabled Crusader Moat Outside Jerusalem's Old City Walls - Jewish Press

Archaeologists have discovered an 11th century moat just outside Jerusalem's Old City walls-the first hard evidence of a fabled Crusader siege against the city 920 years ago. Attested to in several historical documents, many scholars nonetheless believed the siege was a myth.

The groundbreaking find was made as part of the Mount Zion Archaeological Project, a joint international effort led by by professor Shimon Gibson and Prof. James Tabor of the University of North Carolina in Charlotte in cooperation with Dr. Rafi Lewis of Ashkelon Academic College. The excavation site is part of the Jerusalem Walls National Park, where archaeologists have previously found a first-century Jewish mansion and a rare gold coin stamped with the face Roman Emperor Nero.

The Daily Brief

1. Trump Admin Tackles Rising Anti-Semitism - FreeBeacon

The Trump administration is working on multiple fronts to investigate and combat a rising tide of anti-Semitism in America that top officials warned is spreading across the country via a network of far left, anti-Israel activists, who seek to mainstream hatred against Jews at the nation's college campuses and elsewhere.

Organized by the Justice Department, senior Trump administration officials from the Education, Treasury, and State Departments joined together to discuss a range of actions the government is taking to prevent federal dollars from being spent on college programs that seek to mainstream anti-Israel ideologies.

"Far too often, Jews and Jewish communities in America suffer outside the spotlight," Attorney General William Barr said as he kicked off the event. "New York City, this past year, has seen a sharp uptick in attacks on Orthodox Jews. While the tragic attacks in Pittsburgh and Poway appropriately drew national attention, these attacks and others like them in communities across the country are, sadly, less well-known outside the Jewish community," Barr said. "But they form the daily background of concerns about security and safety that many in the Jewish community feel." (Read more)

- Father, we pray this focus on anti-Semitism throughout our cities, schools and campuses will effectively shame and defund those promoting these attitudes and policies towards Your people, Israel.

- The Portion of Jacob is not like them, for He is the Maker of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; The Lord of hosts is His name. (Jeremiah 10:16)

2. Rep. Omar Labels All Trump Supporters 'Racists' Amid Spat With President - Epoch Times

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) retweeted a shared article written by Goldie Taylor for the openly anti-Trump Daily Beast website titled, "Trump Is a Racist. If You Still Support Him, So Are You." Taylor's article referred to a series of tweets Trump issued over the weekend. Trump wrote, "So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run."

"Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can't leave fast enough. I'm sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!" he added.

Trump added to his initial attack early on July 15, writing that it was sad to see Democrats "sticking up for people who speak so badly of our Country and who, in addition, hate Israel with a true and unbridled passion." (Read more)

- Father God, we ask You to forgive Representative Ilhan Omar for her foolish words and we pray for her to experience Your transforming love and salvation.

- For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:17)

3. Al Green Vows to Force Impeachment Vote This Month - Breitbart

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) on Monday vowed to force a vote on the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in the House of Representatives before the end of this month. Green has already brought up articles of impeachment twice. In 2017, he received 58 votes to proceed with debate. In 2018, he received 66 votes to proceed with debate.

"The President of the United States is a racist, a bigot, a misogynist, as well as an invidious prevaricator. To say that Donald John Trump is unfit for the Office of the President of the United States is an understatement. He is unfit for public office, and if he displayed any of these behaviors in most private companies, he would be summarily terminated with haste," Green said in a statement.

Green held a press conference that he said was "imposed upon us" because of Trump's tweets over the weekend in which he said the left-wing "squad"-Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA)-should go back to the "crime infested places from which they came." Ocasio-Cortez (New York), Tlaib (Detroit), and Pressley (Cincinnati) were born in the United States. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray our people will no longer reward those who use slanderous words to acquire political power or demean and marginalize people.

- Wait for the Lord and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. (Psalm 37:34)

4. Separated migrant families sue U.S. government, demand $3 million each - Washington Times

Six migrant families filed multi-million dollar claims Monday against the Trump administration over last year's family separations, saying they need the money to pay for counseling and other medical care to heal from the "torture" they said they suffered. The claims were filed against both the Department of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services.

The legal claims are the latest effort by immigrant-rights groups to punish the administration for the separations of thousands of children, which resulted from the Justice Department's zero tolerance policy for illegal border crossers. The claims were filed under the Federal Tort Claims Act. Monday's action was a notification of claims, and the government now has six months to evaluate the claims and decide what to do.

The families and their lawyers say the policy intended to inflict "emotional distress" on the parents and children, hoping it would make attempting to sneak into the U.S. so uncomfortable that fewer people would attempt it. "It succeeded with devastating consequences," said Mark Fleming, associate director of litigation at the National Immigration Justice Center. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray no one who breaks our laws will benefit financially by using our courts against the citizens of our nation.

- These men lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush only themselves! Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it. (Proverbs 1:18-19)

5. Stricter Asylum Rules: Immigrants Must Apply In First Safe Country They Enter - Sara Carter

The Department of Justice announced a new immigration rule Monday that will restrict illegal immigrants from countries for applying for asylum first in the U.S. if they have attempted "to enter the United States across the southern border after failing to apply for protection in a third country." For example, the rule would not allegedly apply to Mexicans, whose first safe country is America.

Attorney General William Barr authorized the change in the rules under the Department of Homeland Security, as an effort to curtail the humanitarian crisis at the border and deter those abusing the current law from the dangerous trek to the United States. The new rule has very limited exceptions and will go into effect 30 days from Monday. It will not apply to those potential immigrants who've already applied for asylum, the rule states.

"By deterring meritless asylum claims and de-prioritizing the applications of individuals who could have obtained protection in another country, the Departments seek to ensure that those refugees who have no alternative to U.S.-based asylum relief or have been subjected to an extreme form of human trafficking are able to obtain relief more quickly," Barr added. Additionally, the rule seeks to curtail the humanitarian crisis created by human smugglers bringing men, women, and children across the southern border." (Read more)

- Father, we pray this rule change will be effective in reducing illegal immigration and fraudulent asylum claims, while also overcoming any subsequent court challenges.

- He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure. (Ecclesiastes 8:5)

6. Trump Nominates Esper to Be Defense Chief, Succeeding Mattis - Epoch Times

President Donald Trump asked the Senate on July 15 to confirm Mark Esper as the successor to former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who resigned in December 2018. Esper took over as acting defense secretary in June, when Patrick Shanahan abruptly quit after having served as acting secretary since Mattis's departure. Esper will have his Senate confirmation hearing on July 16 and could be confirmed as early as July 18.

Jonathan Hoffman, the chief Pentagon spokesman, said although Spencer may hold the acting secretary job only briefly, he has the full authority and responsibility of the secretary of defense. Hoffman said David Norquist will continue as the acting deputy defense secretary, a role he has performed since Mattis' departure. If Esper is confirmed by the Senate this week, Norquist is expected to be nominated by Trump next week to be permanent deputy secretary.

Esper, who has been the civilian leader of the Army since November 2017, has a wide range of experience with defense issues, including years on Capitol Hill. More recently, he was a lobbyist for Raytheon Co., which conducts business with the Pentagon. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for a quick confirmation for Mark Esper and for all the unfilled positions within the Trump Administration to be filled.

- Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before obscure men. (Proverbs 22:29)

7. Josh Hawley to Introduce Bill That Would Hold Universities Financially Liable for Defaulted Student Loans - Daily Signal

Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri announced Tuesday he will introduce two pieces of legislation this week targeting institutions of higher education, one of which would put universities on the hook financially if students are unable to repay their student loans.

Americans hold nearly $1.5 trillion in outstanding student debt, 10.9% of which is over 90 days delinquent, according to the latest figures available by the New York Fed. Hawley's proposal would require universities to pay off 50% of the debt incurred by their students facing default.

The Missouri senator's proposal would also prohibit universities from increasing their tuition rates to offset their increased liability.

Hawley's second proposal would expand Pell Grant eligibility to more job training and certification programs such as employer-based apprenticeships. "It's time to break up the higher education monopoly. It's time to level the playing field and provide more options for career training. We also must hold higher education institutions accountable that take advantage of students who rack up mountains of debt, are unable to find a good job and default on their loans," Hawley said in a press release Tuesday. (Read more)

- Father, we lift up our young people who have been herded into liberal arts programs by university faculty with little concern for their futures or the debt laid upon them. We pray this bill will hold these institutions accountable for encouraging and enabling bad choices.

- The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. (Proverbs 12:26)

8. Peter Thiel: FBI and CIA Should Investigate Whether Chinese Intelligence Infiltrated 'Seemingly Treasonous' Google - American Greatness Billionaire tech investor, Trump supporter, and Facebook board member Peter Thiel sent shock waves throughout the tech industry on Sunday when he called for the FBI and CIA to investigate whether Chinese intelligence has infiltrated "seemingly treasonous" Google. Thiel also accused the Alphabet-owned Google of working with the Chinese military.

According to Axios, Thiel made the comments on Sunday at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, D.C. His speech focused on three questions he said the FBI and CIA should ask the tech giant.

"Number one, how many foreign intelligence agencies have infiltrated your Manhattan Project for AI (artificial intelligence)?" Thiel reportedly asked. "Number two, does Google's senior management consider itself to have been thoroughly infiltrated by Chinese intelligence?" and "Number three, is it because they consider themselves to be so thoroughly infiltrated that they have engaged in the seemingly treasonous decision to work with the Chinese military and not with the US military," Thiel said, according to Axios. (Read more)

- Father God, we ask You to reveal all the ways our high tech companies are being compromised by foreign influence and infiltration.

- He who profits illicitly troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live. (Proverbs 15:27)

9. Bureau of Land Management to move headquarters from DC to Colorado - The Hill

The Trump administration plans to relocate the headquarters of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from Washington, D.C., to Colorado, according to two lawmakers. The reorganization, first considered under former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, is aimed at putting more agency officials closer to the lands they manage out West. The reorganization plans would effectively move the agency entirely out of D.C.

Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner (R) confirmed the headquarters move on Monday, calling it a "significant win" for his state. "This means that people will be able to have greater say, greater impact on public lands decisions that affect their community," Gardner said in a video he tweeted. "This is an effort I started years ago under the Obama administration so that we could have the policymakers in Washington closer to the people that are most impacted by the decisions that Washington makes."

The BLM headquarters move could be the first of many reorganizational plans within the Department of Interior. Zinke first announced in January 2018 plans to overhaul the department, arguing that too many bureaucrats lead from Washington rather than the areas they are regulating. His plan, announced last August, would reorganize management of the department through 12 ecosystem and watershed boundaries rather than state lines in what will be called Unified Regions. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for restructuring throughout our government to meet the needs of our citizens in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

- The evil will bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous. (Proverbs 14:19)

10. Group sues Boston for banning Christian flag, approving 284 others - Fox News

The city of Boston, Mass. is being sued for religious discrimination for banning the Christian flag while permitting 284 others, according to a federal lawsuit filed last week. Hal Shurtleff, the director and co-founder of Camp Constitution, asked the city to fly the Christian flag, an inter-denominational symbol, as part of Constitution Day on Sep. 17, 2017, for a one-hour event. But the city banned its appearance, saying no non-secular flags could be flown.

Shurtleff said the city would have accepted it if they had called it the Camp Constitution flag instead of the Christian flag. The group was planning an event with pastors encouraging racial reconciliation, freedom in the United States, and celebrating the link between Christianity and the United States, ending with the presentation of the Christian flag. But after the city's rejection, the event was canceled.

Matthew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel said, "Censoring religious viewpoints in a public forum where secular viewpoints are permitted violates the First Amendment," Staver said in a statement. "Boston city officials may not ban the Christian flag as part of a privately-sponsored event when they allow any other flag by numerous private organizations. It's time for the court to stop the city's unconstitutional censorship." (Read more)

- Father, we ask You for favor before the city of Boston and before the court. We pray the city will reverse it's' decision and apologize to Mr. Shurtleff and Camp Constitution.

- For this is what the high and exalted One says- he who lives forever, whose name is holy: "I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. (Isaiah 57:15)

Scorched earth lunacy

The big brouhaha over the communist sisterhood "The Squad" has turned into an acerbic moment for the media to showcase its bias and for the so-called "progressives" to take center stage in proving the point that anything said against them will be twisted into racism and bigotry. President Donald Trump tweeted that Democratic Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Rashida Tlaib (MI) and Ayanna Pressley (MA) hated the United States and Israel and should leave the country if they are not happy here. Trump also said they could go back where they came from, although the media points out that only one is from a country other than the US. Trump picked a fight with the Marxists.

Trump said, "These are people that hate our country, They hate it, I think, with a passion. Now it's possible I'm wrong. The voter will decide. But when I hear the way they talk about our country - when I hear the anti-Semitic language they use, when I hear the hatred they have for Israel - and the love they have for enemies like al Qaeda - then you know what? I will tell you that I do not believe this is good for the Democrat Party."Trump did not refer to or demean these congresswomen's gender or race in his tweets. He most certainly could have used different words, and have checked his facts about their countries of origin, but at the end of the day, his point was that these Congresswomen did not love America.
Notwithstanding, these congresswomen held a news conference. They did not deny that they hated America and Israel, but they labeled Trump a "blatant racist." And the news media is backing them. This underscores the Marxist doctrine of twisting words, ignoring the charges, and accusing others to advance the agenda. Because all four of these US Representatives are women of color, and Trump called them out on their remarks against America and Israel-which have been many-they characterize him as a racist. If you disagree with someone on what they say or do or believe, you risk being labeled. This is the lowest common denominator of modern politics. It's a textbook page from Marxist and Fascist propaganda.
NBC reports that Omar said in the news conference, "This is the agenda of white nationalists, whether it is happening in chat rooms or happening in national TV. And now it's reached the White House garden." So every time Trump opens his mouth about the hateful remarks of Omar regarding Israel, it is the white nationalist agenda? Isn't what she said in of itself a bigoted remark? This is so ridiculous that there is no opportunity for civil debate on how to solve the nation's problems. There is no safe place for respectful dialogue. It's scorched earth lunacy. As is written in Isaiah 5:20, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Have a blessed and powerful day,

Statement by the Republican Jewish Coalition

Republican Jewish Coalition:

Democratic congresswomen Trump targeted are communists who hate Jews and America

Sen. Lindsey Graham says a group of progressive Democratic congresswomen are "a bunch of communists. They hate Israel. They hate our own country."

President Donald Trump tweeted out Graham's statement, which also accused the congresswomen of being anti-Semitic.

The Republican Jewish Coalition also agrees with Graham. It tweeted a clip of his statement, made to Fox News, and wrote "He isn't wrong."

At the end of the clip, Graham says: "We don't need to know anything about them personally. Talk about their policies."

Asked to elaborate, an RJC spokesman wrote to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that "we simply believe that everything Senator Graham says in this clip is correct, both in fact and sentiment."

Hottest weather of season on tap for Northeast as record-challenging heat wave builds

As heat expands across the northeastern United States, highs near the century mark will be common, with some locations experiencing dangerously high AccuWeather ReelFeal Temperatures well above 100 F -- but not before what's left of Barry sweeps through with localized flooding downpours.

While temperatures may be briefly held back in areas that receive a thorough drenching for a day or so, intense July sunshine, combined with a northward retreat of the jet stream will allow an impressive heat wave to build even for midsummer standards.

In the northern U.S., a heat wave is generally that which brings three or more days in a row with highs of 90 F.

"The combination of sunshine, temperature, humidity levels and other factors will push AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures well into the danger level past 105 degrees during the late morning and afternoon hours," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.
"Actual temperatures in some of the major cities, such as Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City are likely to peak within a few degrees of the century mark at the peak of the heat wave this weekend," Anderson said.

At this level temperatures will be 10-15 degrees above average even for the middle of the summer.

"Cooling demands will surge with the intense heat wave," according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

The Good News Corner:

While Iran and the US Go Head-to-Head, Iranians Are Turning Their Hearts to Jesus

"What's taking place in Iran right now is spectacular. It's the fastest growing Church in the world that owns no buildings, has no 501c3's, that owns no property, that has no bank accounts; that has no centralized leadership; that has no denominational leaning and yet it's multiplying like crazy . . . What the Lord is doing there is staggering." - FAI founder and director Dalton Thomas

It may surprise you that the fastest growing Church in the world is in Iran. Yet that's the assessment of those who have seen and heard the remarkable story of millions turning away from Shiite Islam and turning toward Jesus Christ.

The image Iran presents to the world is large demonstrations with shouts of 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel'.

Those who have seen Iran from the inside, however, paint a very different picture.

"You can't believe the images on TV. Because for example, all the protests you see on the streets, those are mostly contrived. They're young people on the streets and they've told us if we don't go to the streets, we won't get our grades so we're forced to go and protest," one Iranian church worker said.
