TWO MAJOR PRO-LIFE VICTORIES!

Pro-Life First: Judge Upholds Oklahoma Ban on 'Dismemberment Abortion'
in Historic Decision

"Dismemberment abortions are barbaric, brutal and subject unborn children to more cruelty than we allow for death row inmates. It is unconscionable to think that we would allow this practice to continue. Judge Truong is to be commended for declaring this legislation constitutional." - Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter

An Oklahoma state judge on Friday upheld the state's ban on a common late-term abortion procedure, making it the first time a judge in the US has reviewed such a law and not overturned it. Oklahoma County Judge Cindy Truong handed down her decision from the bench.
The law's text describes a D&E abortion as an abortion which involves the dismembering of "a living unborn child" and extracting him or her "one piece at a time from the uterus through use of clamps, grasping forceps, tongs, scissors or similar instruments."

"It shall be unlawful for any person to purposely perform or attempt to perform a dismemberment abortion and thereby kill an unborn child unless necessary to prevent serious health risk to the unborn child's mother," the law states.

The law is known as the Oklahoma Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act.

9th Circuit Court Hands President Trump and Pro-Life Americans Another Major Victory: Planned Parenthood 'Devastated'

The president of Planned Parenthood called the ruling "devastating news."

At issue is federal money for Title X, a $300 million family-planning program for birth control, cancer screenings and STD testing.

The new rule by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), supporters say, ensures that none of the money goes toward promoting abortion or conducting abortion. Critics call it the "gag rule."

Planned Parenthood receives an estimated $60 million annually in Title X funding.

In June, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit allowed the rule to go into effect while the lawsuit from Planned Parenthood and others goes forward. Then, an 11-judge Ninth Circuit panel earlier this month announced it would hear an appeal. Last Thursday, that same 11-judge panel ruled the earlier order by the three-judge panel would remain in effect-thus allowing the Trump administration to enforce the new HHS rule.
"After due consideration of the emergency motions, the motions for administrative stay of the three-judge panel order are DENIED," the ruling said.

The 7-4 decision means a majority of the 11 judges believe the Trump administration likely will win on the merits of the case. All seven judges who allowed the rule to go into effect were nominated by Republicans (four by George W. Bush, two by Trump and one by Reagan). The four dissenting votes came from Democratic-nominated judges (all by Clinton).

- Oh, dear God! We now weep with JOY to read both of these reports, showing that judges are now ruling FOR LIFE from the bench and in the courtrooms of America. Thank You, dear Lord, for these victories! In Your name, amen!

Focus on Israel

1. IDF Sends Reinforcements to Gaza Border - Jerusalem Online

The IDF has reinforced Israel's southern border with Gaza with extra troops and more Iron Dome anti-aircraft defense equipment. This comes after a Hamas member was killed by IDF troops along the security fence on the Gaza border, in what the military said was a misunderstanding.

The man, identified as Mahmoud Ahmad Sabri al-Adham, 28, was shot by IDF troops as he approached the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip.

Hamas, the terrorist organization, declared that the death of Al-Adham would not be "without punishment" and that Israel would "bear the consequences of this criminal act".

"Israel intentionally fired at one of our members while he was performing his duties. We are conducting an investigation into this crime," the terror group added.

Last Friday, approximately 6,000 Palestinians attended the "Great Return March" demonstrations on the Gaza-Israel border.

2. PM said eyeing free trade deal with South Korea, sans West Bank and Golan - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is readying to sign a free trade agreement with South Korea, although the pact would not include East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, or Israeli settlements in the West Bank, according to a television report Monday.

Israel has long protested against countries applying regulations that it deems discriminatory against Israeli enterprises in the contested areas.

Sources involved in the trade negotiations told Channel 13 that Netanyahu is hoping to travel to Seoul by the end of the month to ink the deal, and would also like to squeeze in a trip to Japan, which he last visited in 2014.

3. Protests erupt as cop who shot Ethiopian-Israeli teen released on bail - World Israel News

On Monday, the police officer held in the fatal shooting of teen Solomon Tekah was released from house arrest, sparking outcry among the Ethiopian-Israeli community and their supporters.

The judge rejected a request presented by the Police's Investigation Unit for a NIS 50,000 bond and other limitations to be set for the accused officer, saying there was no real concern of obstruction of justice. She did, however, forbid the officer from entering the department he was working in or using the police computer system. Tekah's family has been critical of the treatment the policeman has received so far and joined the demonstration outside the Knesset on Monday. The demonstrators blocked roads near the Israeli parliament while marching towards the Supreme Court, as police arrested seven protestors and fought back demonstrators who attempted to obstruct roads in the center of the city.

The shooting, which ignited massive riots by Ethiopian-Israelis across the country, is still under investigation. Unrest flared up again when the officer was released on Monday, with members of the Ethiopian community claiming Tekah was wrongfully shot based on racial bias. The officer says he shot at the ground, acting in self-defense when the group whom Tekah was with turned on him. According to an internal investigation by law enforcement, the bullet that killed Tekah ricocheted off the ground before fatally wounding the teen.

4. Netanyahu Vows Preemptive Strikes Following Reports Of Attack In Syria - Jerusalem Post

The challenges facing Israel do not let up, and the country deals with them not only by responding after the fact, but also by preempting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday.

Netanyahu's words at a memorial ceremony in Rehovot for Ephraim Katzir, Israel's fourth president, came just hours after the Syrian State News Agency (SANA) said that the country's air defense thwarted an Israeli missile attack on Tel al-Hara in southern Syria.

"The chain of tests that we are dealing with is unending. We respond vigorously and with force to all attacks against us. However, we do not take action only after the fact. We deny the enemy's capabilities before the fact."

Netanyahu said that in a "systematic and consistent manner," Israel was working to prevent its enemies from establishing "offensive attack bases in our vicinity."

5. Hamas official walks back call to Palestinian Diaspora to kill 'Jews everywhere' - Times Of Israel

A senior Hamas official on Monday attempted to walk back his call for members of the Palestinian diaspora to kill Jews around the world, as the terrorist group distanced itself from his remarks.

In a statement posted on the terror group's website, Fathi Hammad said he supports "Hamas's consistent, adopted policy of limiting its resistance to the Zionist occupation that usurps Palestine's land and defiles its holy sites."

He added: "Our resistance to this usurping entity will continue in all of its forms whether that is armed or popular peaceful struggle."

The Islamist terror group, which is sworn to Israel's destruction, earlier on Monday said Hammad's comments did not represent its official policy, amid a flurry of condemnations, including by a top Palestine Liberation Organization official, a United Nations envoy, and a number of Palestinian activists.

1. ACLU Sues to Stop Trump Administration from Enforcing Federal Immigration Laws - Breitbart

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday in an attempt to stop the Trump administration from enforcing federal immigration law with a planned roundup on Sunday of illegal migrants who have not appeared at deportation hearings.

According to the lawsuit the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project, Central American Resource Center, Immigrant Defenders Law Center, and Public Counsel are suing Attorney General William Barr, James McHenry, director of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, Kevin McAleenan, Department of Homeland Security secretary, Mark Morgan, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Thomas R. Decker, field office director of ICE's New York Field Office.

The lawsuit claims that the Trump administration's system for notifying migrants about their legal obligation to appear in court is "in chaos," and seeks a court order to allow the migrants to appear before an immigration judge before deportation could take place.

"For the many families who came here as refugees fleeing violence, deportation is a death threat," Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said in a news release, according to the New York Post.

"We will fight to ensure no one faces this kind of peril without having their case considered in court," Lieberman said.

Most of the estimated 2,000 immigrants in about 10 U.S. cities are from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Many claim to be fleeing violence in those countries and want asylum in the United States, the lawsuit stated. (Read more)

- Father, the immigration situation is so out of control that America is in serious danger. We plead Your mercy over our borders, and wisdom over our leadership. We ask that no weapon formed against us will prosper, and that includes law groups that do not see or even care about the problems faced at the border.

- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn." (Isaiah 54:17)

2. Anti-ICE protesters pull down American flag, raise Mexico flag, vandalize 'Blue Lives Matter' flag - Fox News

Authorities in Colorado restored an American flag to its place Friday evening after protesters demonstrating outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility pulled down the star-spangled banner and flew the flag of Mexico in its place.

The protesters also removed a "Blue Lives Matter" flag, honoring law enforcement, spray-painted it with the words "Abolish ICE," then raised the flag upside-down, on a pole next to the Mexican flag, according to local media.

Hundreds of protesters had gathered in Aurora, Colo., outside the federal facility that holds illegal immigrants, to protest ICE raids scheduled to begin Sunday in Denver and other major U.S. cities, FOX 31 Denver reported.

Aurora police Chief Nick Metz said the majority of protesters remained peaceful and some even thanked officers for their evening efforts.

The protest, part of a network of #LightsForLiberty events, also dubbed the "March to Close Concentration Camps," called for detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border to be closed and for all immigrants being held in those locations to be granted entry to the U.S., according to the event's Facebook page. - Father, this event was sponsored by an international Socialist collective, people who wish to destroy America. We bind the deception in the minds of these people and loose Your Spirit to bring true heart change, repentance and truth.

3. Democrats Give Illegal Aliens Tips on How to Avoid Arrest in ICE Raids - Breitbart

Big-name Democrats are rushing to the aid of illegal aliens, giving tips on how to avoid arrest following the news of upcoming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids slated for Sunday.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reportedly told members of her caucus during a closed-door meeting Thursday to push the "know your rights" campaign, aimed to assist illegal aliens in avoiding arrest.

"Every person in America has rights," she said during her weekly press conference Thursday. "These families are hardworking members of our communities in our country, this brutal action will terrorize children and tear families apart."

The pamphlets - which a few different organizations are offering - come in both English and Spanish. One reads: If any government official (identifying themselves as a police officer, FBI agent, or immigration agent like ICE or CBP) wishes to engage you in conversation, all persons, citizens and noncitizens, have the constitutional right to remain silent and request a lawyer.

It adds: If you are accused of something that makes you deportable and you are placed in deportation proceedings, you have the right to a hearing with an Immigration Judge and the right to have an attorney represent you at that hearing and in any interview with an immigration agency.

"Squad" members Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have been tweeting out additional pointers for illegal aliens on Twitter. (Read more)

- Father, this situation is untenable, with Democrats actively pushing for illegals to defy law enforcement. We pray for a mighty move of Your Spirit over each of them, and if they will not repent, remove them from office.

- "You fools, be of an understanding heart." (Proverbs 3:5b)

4. Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan under federal investigation for alleged leaks - Washington Examiner

Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan is at the center of a federal investigation into the leak of confidential government information in late June that forced Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to call off a nationwide operation, three senior administration officials told the Washington Examiner.

Following the publishing of sensitive leaked law enforcement information on June 21, then-acting ICE Director Mark Morgan's team followed department protocol and reported the incident to the ICE Joint Intake Center so they could investigate. JIC is an agency office that handles internal investigations of personnel misconduct, sexual abuse, staff neglect, or violations of responsibilities that may have contributed to such incidents. 5. 69-year-old 'anarchist' shot, killed after attacking Washington migrant detention center - USA Today

A 69-year-old man armed with a rifle threw incendiary devices at an immigration jail in Washington state early Saturday, then was found dead after four police officers arrived and opened fire, authorities said.

The Tacoma Police Department said the officers responded at about 4 a.m. to the privately run Tacoma Northwest Detention Center, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security detention facility that holds migrants pending deportation proceedings.

The detention center has also held immigration-seeking parents separated from their children under President Donald Trump's "zero tolerance" policy, an effort meant to deter illegal immigration.

The shooting took place about six hours after a peaceful rally in front of the detention center, police spokesman Loretta Cool said. (Read more)

- Father, these anarchists are growing worse and worse. We pray that You will grant wisdom to leaders to move to stop them from harming others.

- "Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him." (Psalm 140:11b)

6. Guatemala May Build 'Legal Wall' Against Migrants - American Truth

President Donald Trump's deputies may soon finalize a "safe third country" deal with Guatemala that would allow U.S. border officials to legally block most migrants from even applying for asylum, according to the New Yorker magazine.

The Guatemala deal would create a legal wall on the U.S. border that would prevent migrants from asking for asylum or getting released into the United States, according to the outlet:

According to a draft of the agreement, which The New Yorker has obtained, asylum seekers from any country who either show up at U.S. ports of entry or are apprehended while crossing between ports of entry could be sent to seek asylum in Guatemala instead.

Under this new arrangement, most of these migrants will no longer have a chance to make an asylum claim in the U.S. at all. "We're talking about something much bigger than what the term 'safe third country' implies," someone with knowledge of the deal told me. "We're talking about a kind of transfer agreement where the U.S. can send any asylum seekers, not just Central Americans, to Guatemala."

Pro-migration advocates are appalled because they are concerned the agreement might effectively bar the catch and release of the many economic migrants who ask for asylum at the U.S. border. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that more and more nations will step up to stem the flow of migrants into America. We ask for Your mercy to save our Republic.

- "For still my prayer is against the deeds of the wicked." (Psalm 141:5e)

7. Tom Homan on explosive battle with AOC, House Dems: This is when I broke, I'd 'had enough' - Fox News

Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan blasted House Democrats for pushing a "false narrative" during an explosive hearing in which he clashed with Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gerry Connolly and others. Speaking Friday before the House Oversight Committee hearing, Homan delivered a fiery defense of border agents, pushing back against Democrats' claims about conditions at detention centers along the border. In particular, Connolly, D-Va., blasted the Trump administration for "hardly humane care" being given to migrant families.

"If you don't like this, do your job. Fix it," Homan told lawmakers. Homan said on "Fox & Friends" Monday that he was trying not to be confrontational, but "had enough" when Rep. Jesus Garcia, D.Ill., called him a "racist and said I didn't care about dying children."

"I thought about getting up and throwing that man a beating right in the middle of the room because when you tell someone who has spent their career saving lives that I don't care about dying children and I'm a racist, that's where I broke," he said.

Homan said Democrats repeatedly made false accusations and would not let him respond, arguing the hearing was "political theater" and not about transparency.

"They didn't want to hear the truth. They wanted to push their narrative and not let me speak. They wanted me to get up and walk out and I wasn't gonna give that to them," he said, adding that his answers were directed to the American people. (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that this continual harping of the Democrats against truth will cease, and that You will bring repentance to our nation from coast to coast. Truth has fallen, and wickedness has replaced it. We ask for Your mercy and Your answer.

- "The violence of the wicked will destroy them, because they refuse to do justice." (Proverbs 21:7)

8. Jeffrey Epstein paid $350K to 'influence' possible co-conspirators: prosecutors - NBC

Accused child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein wired a total of $350,000 to a pair of possible co-conspirators just days after the publication of a newspaper story alleging he sexually abused dozens of underage girls, federal prosecutors said Friday.

The prosecutors said the payments, which were made last November after the bombshell Miami Herald story came out, demonstrate Epstein's willingness to tamper with witnesses.

"This course of action, and in particular its timing, suggests the defendant was attempting to further influence co-conspirators who might provide information against him in light of the recently re-emerging allegations," the prosecutors wrote in court papers arguing that Epstein should remain behind bars until his trial.

Epstein wired $100,000 to one of his associates two days after the story was published, the court papers say. Three days later, he sent $250,000 to someone identified as one of his employees, prosecutors said. Neither of the two were named, but both were said to be possible co-conspirators in the alleged sex crimes that were the subject of the Miami Herald article.

"Epstein's efforts to influence witnesses continue to this day," the prosecutors wrote. (Read more)

- Father, we ask for true justice to cover this case - let Your Spirit hover over the victims, and Your justice over the perpetrators. We pray that Epstein will not be able to influence any witnesses ever again.

- "For all His ways are justice." (Deut 32:4b)

9. Amendment Would Bar Trump from Holding Another July 4 'Salute to America' - Military.com

The flyovers may have wowed the crowds, but some lawmakers were less impressed. The House voted Thursday to block President Donald Trump from repeating his military-themed July 4 "Salute to America" on the National Mall next year.

By a vote of 221-207, the Democratic-controlled House passed an amendment to the $700 billion-plus defense policy bill now under consideration that would prohibit funding for military exhibitions at which the president presides.

The amendment faces long odds of surviving as part of the final bill, but Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Maryland, the amendment's sponsor, raised the possibility that it would stop what he called another "obscene waste of taxpayer money."

Trump's makeover of the traditional July 4 events in Washington, D.C., featured his speech at the Lincoln Memorial and flyovers by military aircraft, including an Air Force B-2 Spirit stealth bomber and the Navy's "Blue Angels" demonstration team. (Read more)

- Lord, this blatant attempt to tie the President's hands from celebrating America must be stopped.

- "Those who erred in spirit will come to understanding, and those who murmured will learn doctrine." (Isaiah 29:24)

10. Largest pro-life group in US endorses President Trump for 2020 election - Christian Post

The United States' largest pro-life organization officially announced their endorsement of President Donald Trump for the 2020 presidential election.

To justify their decision, NRLC cited the Trump administration's record on abortion issues. This includes the reinstituting of the Mexico City Policy, which prevents tax dollars from going to organizations that promote or fund abortions overseas, and Trump ending funding for the United Nations' Population Fund due to its ties to China's forced abortion policy.

"From his first day in office, President Trump and his Administration have been dedicated to advancing policies that protect the fundamental right to life for the unborn, the elderly, and the medically dependent and disabled," said Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee, in a statement released on Thursday. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for a pro-life President, and for this endorsement. We pray for the protection of all pro-life actions that have been accomplished in this tenure of President Trump. We ask for Your Hand upon him to complete what You have ordained.

- "Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments." (Psalm 112:1b,c)

The hidden darkness of the Epstein case

It's amazing how the news media has left out an entire pattern of behavior surrounding the sexual harassment and assault of women. Blasted across the news these days is the Jeffrey Epstein case. Epstein, a friend of Bill Clinton and a large donor to members of the Democratic Party, is a convicted sex offender. He was known to have orgies with young girls on his plane. Women have come forward now with accounts of being sex trafficked by Epstein when they were as young as 14 years old. Over the past year there have been scores, if not hundreds, of women coming forward with their stories about being sexually assaulted-revealing a most disturbing pattern in the entertainment business and politics.

Bill Crosby, Harvey Weinstein, and several other men-had reputations of such acts, but rarely did anyone come forward for fear of losing their careers. The list of Hollywood democrats who sexually assaulted or harassed women was long and famous. There were politicians, too. What about Hillary Clinton's friend Anthony Weiner? Or even more so, Clinton and her husband's association with Epstein. Fox News reported in May 2016 that former President Bill Clinton took 26 trips with Epstein aboard his "Lolita Express" aircraft. Fox News reported that Epstein "spent 13 months in prison and home arrest for "solicitation and procurement of minors for prostitution."
Epstein allegedly had a team of traffickers who procured girls as young as 12 to service his friends on "Orgy Island," an estate on Epstein's 72-acre island, called Little St. James, in the U.S. Virgin Islands." And this is a story that appeared during the last election cycle. It was documented with flight ledgers and court accounts. But the rest of the mainstream media downplayed it to protect his wife's presidential candidacy. A Democrat consultant once told several of us about the Clinton's sexual exploits during a stay in Columbus, Ohio when Jimmy Carter was running for President. The media knew about it then, too, but did nothing. There is a public list of over 18 women claiming sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual affairs, and rape against Bill Clinton.
There likely are other high-level politicians, businessmen and actors who have been or are involved with Epstein and are laying low right now. The number of people in politics, media and business who have ties to sex trafficking is unknown. And given the media's reluctance to truly investigate and report it, the public may never know. Human trafficking and sex trafficking are among the darkest of evils. As is written in Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" We are getting a glimpse of this evil with the Epstein case, but my hunch is that if ever the truth is revealed of who is involved with human and sex trafficking, it would shock the world.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

A Warning from Franklin Graham

Franklin Graham: Democrats' Equality Act a 'nightmare' for U.S.

Billy Graham Evangelical Association CEO Franklin Graham says that if Congress adopts the Democrats' Equality Act, which would nullify constitutional protections for religious rights, the "nation may never recover."

H.R. 5 which already has passed the House of Representatives, would cancel civil rights protection for women, eliminate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and codify the LGBT agenda.

It previously was condemned by Graham and other Christian leaders.

In the July-August issue of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's "Decision" magazine, Graham points out it's not likely that the Republican majority in the Senate will go along, but "if the Senate majority changes or if enough Republican senators change their position, it would be up to the president to veto the bill."

"And if that office were to change hands in 2020, I have little doubt this would become the law of the land," he warned.

He said there would be "catastrophic consequences." Christian organizations "would lose all protections to hire people who adhere to their biblical statements of faith. Christians will be persecuted for their sincerely held beliefs as never before. The clear teachings of the Bible on the sins of homosexuality and abortion will no doubt be considered 'hate speech.' It will be a nightmare from which this nation may never recover," he warned.

- Lord, we take authority over this egregious bill and bind it up so that it cannot be passed by the Senate. We pray that this anti-Christ agenda will be nullified as we apply the cross of Christ against it.

- "The many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ." (Philippians 3:18)

Manhattan's power outage

Terrorism, cyber attack ruled out as cause of Manhattan power outage

Power was restored to the heart of New York City after a major outage on Saturday impacted an estimated 72,000 customers, mostly in Manhattan's midtown and Upper West Side. Con Edison said it completed power restoration to all customers on the West Side of Manhattan shortly before midnight and the last of six electrical networks was back in service.

Speaking to reporters Sunday, Mayor Bill De Blasio said investigators were still trying to determine what caused the outage, but he said officials were "as certain as we can be" that terrorism or a cyber attack were not to blame.

Federal authorities had confirmed that "there was no evidence whatsoever of any nefarious activity in this situation," he added. (NBC) Read more here.

- Lord, we praise You that there was no evidence of outside attack in this instance. But we ask that you protect our power grid across the nation from hackers that would love to send the entire nation into the dark.

Polling Sites May Be Hacked in 2020 in PA

10,000 polling sites could be hacked because they use Windows 7: report

Pennsylvania's message was clear: The state was taking a big step to keep its elections from being hacked in 2020. Last April, its top election official told counties they had to update their systems. So far, nearly 60% have taken action, with $14.15 million of mostly federal funds helping counties buy brand-new electoral systems.

But there's a problem: Many of these new systems still run on old software that will soon be outdated and more vulnerable to hackers.

An Associated Press analysis has found that like many counties in Pennsylvania, the vast majority of 10,000 election jurisdictions nationwide use Windows 7 or an older operating system to create ballots, program voting machines, tally votes and report counts.

That's significant because Windows 7 reaches its "end of life" on Jan. 14, meaning Microsoft stops providing technical support and producing "patches" to fix software vulnerabilities, which hackers can exploit. In a statement to the AP, Microsoft said Friday it would offer continued Windows 7 security updates for a fee through 2023.

Critics say the situation is an example of what happens when private companies ultimately determine the security level of election systems with a lack of federal requirements or oversight. Vendors say they have been making consistent improvements in election systems. And many state officials say they are wary of federal involvement in state and local elections.

(New York Post) Read more here.
- Lord, we pray Your mighty hand over all of our polling sites, with angelic warriors to protect them from hacking and fraud.

Signs and Wonders

Death toll continues to rise as monsoon downpours drench India, Nepal

Heavy rainfall has triggered deadly flooding and mudslides across parts of Nepal and northern India in recent days and more rain is on the way.

Flooding and landslides have killed at least 65 people and left more than 30 others missing in Nepal since Friday, according to BBC News.

More than 1,400 people have been rescued from flooded areas and more than 10,000 households are estimated to have been displaced.

The deadly weather also affected parts of northern India with 11 deaths reported in Assam and four in Bihar from the recent flooding and mudslides, according to NDTV.

Travel has been impacted across the region and further flooding is expected in the coming days as downpours continue to inundate northeast India.

Daily rainfall totals of 50-150 mm (2-6 inches) will remain possible into the middle of the week. Downpours can trigger new flooding and slow recovery efforts.

More than 1 million have been affected by flooding in Assam, according to Saturday's daily statement from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

Several rivers across the state, including the Brahmaputra, were listed at dangerously high levels. Some of the embankments along the rivers are eroding, threatening neighboring villages.

The Good News Corner

America not as divided as media make it seem,
Senate Chaplain Barry Black says

WASHINGTON - Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias launched a new initiative Wednesday evening, convening dozens of elected officials, senior government staff, business people and academic leaders from both sides of the aisle to discuss political division in the United States.

The inaugural Ravi Zacharias International Ministries "At the Table" event was held on the top floor of the historic Hay-Adams Hotel overlooking the White House, in which attendees engaged in a night of dialogue about the "hope for our divided nation" over dinner and drinks.

The new initiative will be a series of events engaging "crucial issues of the day through the prism of a Christian worldview."

"At the Table" aims to be a place where the "exchange of ideas and hospitality meet."

As much has been made in the media about the ongoing political divisions in the U.S., the night featured a 45-minute panel discussion featuring the 73-year-old Indian-born apologist and author, African-American Republican Sen. Tim Scott from South Carolina, U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry Black, and former Obama campaign faith outreach director Michael Wear.

Moderated by British journalist Rob Gifford, panelists pushed back against the notion that the nation is as divided as many make it out to be. Some contended that the nation is not nearly as divided as it has been in the past.

"I'm startled many times when I hear news people pontificating about how terrible things are," the 70-year-old Black, a former rear admiral in the Navy, said.

"And I'm [wondering], 'Is this an alternative universe that I'm looking at?' Because I know what bad looks like and this is not as bad as it's been."

Black, an African American, opined that too often "division is given a black eye" and told the story of how a Democrat senator recently told him that "this is one of the most challenging times in the history of humanity." Black said he responded to the senator by saying that "slavery was pretty bad."

"The reality is that there has always been division," Black said. "Jesus, in His John 17 intercessory prayer, prays, 'Father, make them one, as we are one.' And when you look at some of the periods of division in the nation and what we've been able to overcome, you know, the question 'Is hope possible?' is almost rhetorical."

"I tell journalists very frequently there hasn't been a caning on my watch," he continued, referring to the caning of Sen. Charles Sumner in 1865 over the issue of slavery. "I've been in the Senate for 16 years. No one has walked over from the House and beat a guy into next week with a cane."

Black even asserted that political division shouldn't bother Christians in America because of the promise made in Romans 8:28.

"If you believe Romans 8:28 - 'In everything God is working for the good of those who love Him, who are the called according to His purposes' - then division shouldn't bother you at all because God has used division," he said.

Gifford questioned Black on whether he was saying that things are not as bad as "we sometimes like to make them out to be."

"We don't have the kinds of assassinations that we had. We don't have the towns burning that we had back in the day," Black responded. "So yeah, I think we are very often hyperbolic and [claiming that] the sky is falling."

Scott, who has served in the Senate since 2013, said he is encouraged whenever he sees elected officials converse when there are no cameras around.

"Perhaps one of the greatest ills in our society today is the presence of cameras," he said. "We sat this morning in a prayer breakfast with Republicans and Democrats having a conversation about loving your enemies. And the person speaking was a Democrat senator who said, 'What they see on TV doesn't reflect what my experience has been even in the minority.'"

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
