HHS Issues New Ruling on Fetal Tissue Research
US White House front view 2

HHS Decision to End Fetal Tissue Research Contracts is Pro-life, Pro-Science says Family Research Council

Statement Issued by Tony Perkins, President
Family Research Council

This afternoon the Department of Health and Human Services announced that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will discontinue research involving the "use of human fetal tissue from elective abortion." Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments:

"This is yet another step by the Trump administration in the march to restore the sanctity of all human life in America. This decision is one based upon the desire of this administration to use taxpayer dollars in the pursuit of science that is both ethical and effective.

"The fact is aborted fetal tissue hasn't been used to create the cure of a single disease. However, tax dollars have been contributing to an industry that fosters the trafficking of body parts from aborted babies. There is absolutely no reason to use these grisly remains when ethical and effective alternatives exist including human umbilical cord blood stem cells and adult peripheral blood stem cells.

"We applaud HHS Secretary Alex Azar for adopting pro-life, pro-science policies for the born and unborn -- all of which is consistent with President Trump's stellar pro-life record," concluded Perkins.

1. In video, Hamas boasts it 'found a way to overcome Iron Dome' - Times of Israel

The Hamas terror group on Tuesday published a video purporting to show how it managed to overcome Israel's Iron Dome rocket defense system during last month's round of fighting, in which three Israeli civilians were killed in almost 700 rocket attacks and another was killed by an anti-tank missile.

"We found a way to overcome Iron Dome," Hamas boasted in the video, according to a Hebrew-language translation by Channel 12 news.

"The pace of launches was the fastest in our history, 700 rockets in 30 hours," the Palestinian group said, with dramatic music playing in the background. "85 rockets were fired at Ashkelon, 80 to Ashdod, 60 to Beersheba - all carrying large warheads.

"We employed a tactic of massive launches toward a single target to overcome Iron Dome," the terror group claimed. "The heaviest fire was used after [Israel] hit high-rise buildings."

2. Report: Hamas Has 10,000 Rockets - JOL

Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian terrorist groups that control the Gaza Strip, have restocked their rocket arsenals to what it was before the 2014 Gaza war, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the report whose sources come from unnamed IDF officers, the two organizations combined have around ten thousand rockets of which hundreds are believed to be long ranged. Their rocket arsenal has been replenished by local production and through smuggling them into Gaza. The majority of their rockets are believed to be short and medium ranged.

In response to the report, US Special Envoy to Israel Jason Greenblatt said, "Hamas and Islamic Jihad continue to cause misery and suffering to the Palestinians in Gaza".

Negotiations to reach a long term cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, are still being conducted by Egyptian General Ahmed Abdel Khalek. Hamas's negotiator is being led by terrorist leader Yahya Sinwar, and the Israeli negotiator is being led by the head of the National Security Council Meir Ben-Shabat.

3. Organization of American States to adopt universal definition of anti-Semitism - JNS

The secretary general of the Organization of American States, the continental body of Latin American and Northern American states, expressed his commitment on Tuesday for the OAS to adopt the widely accepted definition of anti-Semitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

"Effectively fighting anti-Semitism here and around the world means fighting for democracy, for human rights, for stronger institutions and a culture of respect," said OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro at the annual American Jewish Committee Global Forum in Washington, D.C. "Respect and acceptance. The international community has a responsibility to counter anti-Semitism and xenophobia."

After Almagro's remarks, AJC CEO David Harris, with the secretary general standing beside him, said "history has just been made here. In the words of Luis Almagro, as secretary general of the Organization of American States, has for the first time in Latin America, expressed a commitment to adopt the working definition of anti-Semitism.

4. PM rebukes Omar, Tlaib after they request help for BDS activist - www.israelhayom.com

In a letter sent to U.S. lawmakers on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strong rebuke of Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan), saying the two were "the antithesis to the strong support for Israel" on Capitol Hill.

The letter was in response to a letter signed by a group of U.S. Congress members who had asked him to intervene in the case of Omar Shakir, the regional director of Human Rights Watch and an activist in the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.

Shakir was denied an extension of his visa because he was actively engaged in anti-Israel propaganda during his stay in Israel. The Supreme Court recently issued a temporary injunction to prevent Shakir's deportation and will make a final ruling in the coming days.

Netanyahu said that he was not going to heed the lawmakers' request because Shakir had shown "active support for anti-Israel boycotts." Netanyahu further stressed that Shakir had failed to demonstrate that he was not using his stay in Israel for propaganda purposes as part of the BDS movement against Israel.

He added that he was "surprised" that two of the lawmakers who joined the request, referring to Tlaib and Omar, were "two BDS supporters." Omar and Tlaib have come under fire in recent months after making controversial remarks against Israel's actions and even calling for punishing the Jewish state. Omar has recently become embroiled in controversy after some of her tweets were deemed anti-Semitic.

5. 'Israel will no longer tolerate Arab riots on Temple Mount' - Israel National News

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) condemned Arab rioters on the Temple Mount, calling on the Israeli government to put an end to Arab efforts to intimidate Jews attempting to visit the Jerusalem holy site.

"This generation will no longer tolerate a situation in which on the Temple Mount, especially the Temple Mount, Muslim rioters can do what they please, and Jews who simply want to visit are threatened." Edelstein said at a Knesset meeting marking Jerusalem Day, the anniversary of the unification of the capital.

"This is an illogical, immoral, undemocratic and un-Jewish situation. This situation must change."

On Sunday, the 52nd anniversary of the unification of Jerusalem under Israeli control, hundreds of Arab rioters clashed with Israeli police, hurling rocks, shoes, and chairs at Israeli security personnel on the Temple Mount.

Riot police used crowd dispersal measures to break up the riots, including tear gas.

Earlier on Sunday, the Temple Mount headquarters reported that Sunday morning, Jerusalem Day, a record after 1,162 Jews ascended the Temple Mount.

"Today we made history, a day when terror will not defeat Israeli sovereignty. Today we can say with certainty, the Temple Mount is run only according to the determination of the authorities of the State of Israel. The Temple Mount is in our hands!" the authority said in a statement.

The Daily Brief

1. Massive surge in immigration arrests reported at Mexico border as US officials say 'We are bursting at the seams' - Fox News

The number of migrants apprehended at America's southern border skyrocketed last month to levels not seen in over a decade, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting nearly 133,000 arrests in May.

The number surpassed 144,000 when counting migrants deemed inadmissible -- more than a 30 percent increase from the prior month and double the influx recorded at the beginning of the year.

"We are in full-blown emergency," a CBP official said Wednesday.

The number of apprehensions was the highest monthly total in more than 13 years. In April, authorities recorded 99,304 arrests.

The latest figures could embolden President Trump amid tense negotiations with Mexico over the immigration crisis.

- Father, we pray for the US Officials who are handling this crisis. Our country can't continue to handle the surge of migrants, so we ask Lord for a quick solution. Send help from Your sanctuary!

- May He send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. (Psalm 20:2)

2. ICE Prepares for Mass Deportations, Acting Director Admits 'We Have No Choice' - Western Journal

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

And the crisis at the border is absolutely a crisis. If you have any doubt about that, read this now.

In response to the crisis, President Donald Trump's administration is moving forward with a plan for large-scale deportations. The proposal would address a current problem area - migrant families who fail to attend their court dates, when they would learn their asylum claims have been denied and be ordered for deportation.

According to Washington Examiner, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Mark Morgan, said ICE hopes the plan will "disincentivize" migrants who are not actually in fear of their lives but still cross the border illegally and falsely claim asylum. (Read more)

- Lord God, indeed, desperate times do require desperate measures. On this anniversary of D-Day, we decree another D-DAY against this horrible tide of humanity that is overwhelming our southern border. We say "no more!" to this invasion, as we turn them back, now and always, amen.

- 'This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt'?
(Job 38:11)

3. Yes We Can!': Democrat-Controlled House Passes 'Path to Citizenship' Bill - CNSNews.com

More than eight years after the House passed a previous iteration of the Dream Act, the Democrat majority on Tuesday passed the latest version to cheers and chants of "Yes we can," a day after the Trump administration indicated the president would veto it if it ever reaches his desk. As voting got underway, visitors to the House began clapping, chanting and cheering, ignoring efforts from the speaker to restore order. Some members could also be seen joining in. When the final vote result was announced - 237 votes to 187 - the gallery erupted, and more banging of the gavel ensued, again to little effect.

"The moment when it passed was like a rock concert," Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) tweeted later. "The people's cheers brought many, many members to tears. What a moment. This is why we fight."

Democrat senators, including 2020 presidential hopefuls Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Cory Booker (N.J.), urged the Senate to pass the legislation, although a statement from Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) alluded to the anticipated hurdles ahead. "The Senate must act," Schumer said. "This cannot be yet another piece of critical legislation buried in Leader [Mitch] McConnell's legislative graveyard."

Seven Republicans joined the Democrats in passing the American Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6). They were Reps. Don Bacon (Nebr.), Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Will Hurd (Texas), Dan Newhouse (Wash.), Chris Smith (N.J.) and Fred Upton (Mich.)

4. Trump's Pick to Lead the ATF Is a 2nd Amendment-Loving Cop - The Western Journal

The federal government's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives - better known simply as the "ATF" - has been without a Senate-confirmed permanent director since 2015, but that may be about to change as President Donald Trump has signaled his intention to soon make a formal nomination for that position.

In a news release last week, the White House named Charles Canterbury, Jr. as Trump's likely nominee to be the director of the ATF. That nomination should put to rest at least some of the concerns many gun owners hold with regard to that particular agency, as Canterbury is quite open about his strong support for the Second Amendment and the gun rights cherished by American citizens.

The release noted, "Mr. Canterbury currently serves as President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, a position he has held since 2003. He earned the rank of Major in the Horry County Police Department in Conway, South Carolina, after 26 years in the Patrol Division, Criminal Division, and Training Division."

That article pointed out that Canterbury had a "very good relationship" with the president, and noted that he had taken part in several of the White House listening sessions and round table discussions about immigration and other law enforcement-related issues. (Read more)

- Father, the ATF has been lacking a permanent director for too long. As President Trump seeks to fill the position only You can change the opposition in the Senate to confirm a permanent director of this important leader. This prayer is for Your hand to be on the successful confirmation of Charles Canterbury, Jr. if he is the man of Your choice for director of the ATF. Thank You, Lord, for the Holy Spirit leading our President in making this choice.

- "The hearts of the wise are their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction." (Proverbs 16:23)

5. Most violent weekend in Chicago this year: At least 52 shot, 8 fatally - Chicago Tribune

At least 52 people were shot, eight of them fatally, across Chicago over the weekend, the most violent of the year as summer gets underway, with a toll even higher than during the long Memorial Day holiday just a week earlier. More than half the victims were wounded during a 12-hour burst of gunfire from Friday evening to Saturday morning. At least four of the 31 people shot during that time died after attacks on the West and South sides. At least one other person over the weekend was fatally stabbed, bringing the homicide toll to nine.

The level of violence, which typically spikes during the summer months, eclipsed that of the three-day Memorial Day weekend when at least 43 people were shot, seven of them fatally. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson held a news conference Monday morning, calling the level of violence "despicable."

- Father, we speak peace and safety over Chicago! We bind the powers, principalities, rulers of the darkness of this world operating in Chicago. We pull down the stronghold of violence, in Jesus name.

- No longer will violence be heard in Your land, nor ruin or destruction in your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. (Isaiah 60:18)

6. Virginia gov. to call special session on guns - Yahoo News

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Tuesday he will summon lawmakers back to the state Capitol this summer to take up a package of gun-control legislation, saying last week's mass shooting in Virginia Beach calls for "votes and laws, not thoughts and prayers."

Northam, a Democrat faced with a gun-friendly, Republican-controlled General Assembly in the middle of a legislative election year, also said he wants every lawmaker to go on record for or against his proposals during the special session, rather than avoid tough votes by quietly killing the bills in subcommittee.

"The nation will be watching," the governor said, four days after Virginia Beach employee DeWayne Craddock used two semi-automatic handguns, a silencer and extended ammunition magazines to slaughter 12 people at a municipal building. Craddock was then killed in a gunbattle with police.

Northam's bills include a ban on silencers and high-capacity magazines, as well as a broadening of the ability of local governments to prohibit guns in city buildings. The governor said he also wants mandatory, universal background checks before gun purchases; a limit of one handgun purchase per month; and a "red flag" law that would allow authorities to seize weapons from people deemed a threat to themselves or others.

"I will be asking for votes and laws, not thoughts and prayers," he said, mocking the usual response to gun violence by supporters of the gun lobby.

No immediate date for the special session was set, but Northam said he wants to hold it in late June. (Read more)

- Oh Lord, our God, Gov. Northam has stated that he will be asking for votes and laws, not thoughts and prayers. Jesus, he isn't looking in the right place for the answer to end gun-control in the Virginia. Guns are not to blame for actions of people. People who don't know You, don't know Your Word and don't have salvation are the ones who commit these crimes.

Let the Holy Spirit enter Gov. Northam and let him be shown the way to Your throne. Give Mr. Northam clear eyes to see and ears to hear what Your plan is for him. He is the elected leader of the State of Virginia. Give him understanding and wisdom of Your ways. If he doesn't turn to You do with him as You will. Protect the citizens of Virginia from any actions taken by this governor. Forgive him for he doesn't know what he is doing without You.

- "So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, "The Lord is righteous." (2 Chronicles 12:6).

" May his days be few; may another take his office." (Psalm 109:8)

7. 'Joe Biden Has a Lot to Be Concerned About' Over Russia Hoax - Breitbart

"Joe Biden has a lot to be concerned about" if the origins of the Russia collusion investigation are "proven to be criminal," said Breitbart News Jerusalem Bureau Chief and senior investigative reporter Aaron Klein on SiriusXM's Breitbart News Sunday with host Matt Boyle.

Klein discussed his Sunday-published article highlighting then-Vice President Joe Biden's documented attendance at a White House meeting on January 5, 2017, discussing the sharing of intelligence data with members of Trump's transition team in light of the Russia investigation.

Klein also discussed an earlier Washington Post report that is newly relevant: that Biden was reportedly one of the few Obama administration officials who participated in secretive meetings during the early stages of the Obama-era intelligence community's initial operations regarding suspected Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

8. New York Times executive admits media didn't 'understand the Trump phenomenon' - Fox News

New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet spoke candidly last weekend about how the media "did not quite understand the Trump phenomenon" during the 2016 election.

In an interview conducted by the International News Media Association, Baquet was asked about a letter to readers that he and Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. wrote days after the historic election of Donald Trump.

"After such an erratic and unpredictable election there are inevitable questions: Did Donald Trump's sheer unconventionality lead us and other news outlets to underestimate his support among American voters? What forces and strains in America drove this divisive election and outcome? Most important, how will a president who remains a largely enigmatic figure actually govern when he takes office?" Baquet and Sulzberger wrote. "As we reflect on the momentous result, and the months of reporting and polling that preceded it, we aim to rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism. That is to report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor, striving always to understand and reflect all political perspectives and life experiences in the stories that we bring to you."

Baquet insisted his letter wasn't an "apology," but rather an "acknowledgment of something important."

"It was an acknowledgment that the American press . . . did not quite understand the Trump phenomenon," Baquet said. "Nobody in my newsroom - nobody in front of me - said that they thought Donald Trump could win." (Read more)

- Thank You, Father God, that at least one member of the media is confessing that they just "don't get it." We ask that You would cause each one to "bear down" deep within their own soul, to be sure that what they are now reporting is TRUTH and now lies. Help the members of the fourth estate to find You, O Lord we pray, amen.

- "Let no man deceive you by any means . . . " ( 2 Thess. 2:3 KJV)

9. Dow soars 500 points after Powell signals a rate cut is on the table, investors ignore global trade tensions - Business Insider

The major averages soared on Tuesday after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell signaled the central bank was open to the possibility of slashing interest rates in the face of international trade disputes.

"We do not know how or when these issues will be resolved," Powell said of the uncertain state of trade negotiations.

"We are closely monitoring the implications of these developments for the U.S. economic outlook and, as always, we will act as appropriate to sustain the expansion, with a strong labor market and inflation near our symmetric 2% objective," he added.

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average both rallied 2%, while the Nasdaq composite jumped by 2.65%. All three major averages posted their biggest one-day gains since January 4. The S&P 500, for its part, is still trading 5% below its May 1 record high.

Technology stocks such as Facebook, Alphabet, and Apple rebounded after a brutal sell-off on Monday that was fueled by reported regulatory developments surrounding all three names. Tesla was a notable gainer on Tuesday, soaring 8%.

1. US to press Russia on Iranian presence in Syria - Israel National News

A senior White House official said in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday that the US plans to stress to Russia during its trilateral national security advisers summit in Jerusalem this month that Iranian forces and their proxies have to leave Syria, Axios reported. The trilateral meeting between the national security advisers of Israel, the US and Russia in late June is an unprecedented event. The White House official said the main focus of the summit will be Syria and Iran's activities in Syria, Lebanon and the rest of the region. Israel wants to use the summit to push the US and Russia closer together in order to get a deal on Syria that would push Iranian forces out of the country, noted Axios.

The White House official said on Tuesday that the US and Israel are waiting to hear what proposals Russia will bring to the meeting. National security adviser John Bolton is going to stress during the summit that Iran is not playing any positive role in Syria or the region as a whole, according to the official. The official added that the Trump administration is very concerned with Iranian actions in Syria and supports Israeli airstrikes against Iranian military entrenchment in the country.

"We are sure the Iranians are not happy that this meeting is taking place and that the Israelis are publicly hosting the Americans and the Russians together in Jerusalem to talk about Iran. The fact the Russians are attending this meeting is important in itself," said the official.

While Iranian leaders deny that the Islamic Republic has a military presence in Syria, Iran is a key supporter of President Bashar Al-Assad's regime, having providing the regime with both financial aid and military advisers against a range of opposing forces since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011. 2. Russia intercepts US aircraft flying over the Mediterranean Sea - CNN

A Russian aircraft intercepted a US aircraft flying in international airspace over the Mediterranean Sea three times in just under three hours Tuesday, according to the US 6th Fleet.

"On June 4, 2019, a U.S. P-8A Poseidon aircraft flying in international airspace over the Mediterranean Sea was intercepted by a Russian SU-35 three times over the course of 175 minutes," the 6th Fleet said in a statement Tuesday.

The second of the three interactions "was determined to be unsafe" due to the Russian aircraft "conducting a high speed pass directly in front of the mission aircraft, which put our pilots and crew at risk," it said. The American aircraft was maintaining international standards and "did not provoke this Russian activity," the statement continued.

"While the Russian aircraft was operating in international airspace, this interaction was irresponsible. We expect them to behave within international standards set to ensure safety and to prevent incidents," the 6th Fleet wrote, adding that "unsafe actions
increase the risk of miscalculation and potential for midair collisions."

The Russian aircraft was armed and passed about 150 feet directly in front of the US plane according to two US officials.

The Russian military on Wednesday disputed the US Navy's characterization of the intercept as unsafe. (Read more)

3. Putin and Xi hail 'unprecedented' ties - CNBC

Russia and China appear to be intent on strengthening their alliance and fostering deeper cooperation in the face of increased political and economic hostility from the U.S. The bid to strengthen bilateral ties continues this week as Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Russia Wednesday for the start of a three-day state visit and top-level talks with Putin. Welcoming Xi to the Kremlin on Wednesday, Putin said ties between Russia and China stood at "an unprecedented level." Xi echoed that sentiment by saying that the countries' relations had withstood "trials and tribulations" over the years and were now better than ever. "We've managed to take our relationship to the highest level in our history," Xi said. "We will continue to improve our ties and we are ready to go hand in hand with you," he told Putin at the leaders' initial meeting that was broadcast online. (Read more)

Lo, the poor "journalists"

The Save Journalism Project has been launched by Laura Bassett, a former culture and political reporter at HuffPost, and John Stanton, a former BuzzFeed News Washington bureau chief. The Save Journalism Project web site claims, "High-quality journalism has been recognized since America's founding as fundamental to the functioning of our democracy. But now, journalism in America is facing an existential threat from the monopolistic control of tech giants like Google, Facebook, and Apple. Big tech's dominance over the digital advertising market and their unrivaled capacity to monetize its platforms are having drastic effects on journalism as a whole." This is partially true, but as with journalism these days, not totally true.

The site says that "over the last 10 years, newspaper newsrooms have declined in size by 45%, and in 2019 so far media has shed more than 2,400 jobs." It puts the blame on big technology, "Google, Apple, and Facebook are using their tech muscles to monetize news for their own profit, but at the expense of journalists." The Save Journalism Project states that it is "an effort to educate and activate journalists across the country to tell the story of big tech's threat to journalism. We are news publishers, news gatherers, journalists, content creators, media influencers, activists, advocates, and organizers. We are defending democracy, fighting to preserve free press, and working to save journalism in the age of big tech. If these are issues you care about too, become an ally."

The site claims that 75% of digital ad revenue is controlled by Google, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, Snapchat, Microsoft, and Oath. It says that some 1,300 local communities have lost local news coverage. It says that fake news is created by the income disparity between those who can afford to pay for news digital content and those who can only afford free content that "incentivizes sensationalism and outrage over accuracy." Yes, big tech posing as free speech platforms and at the same time censoring speech that the corporate Marxists disagree with, is a huge threat to the free republic. But to claim that because big tech controls ad revenue is shifting the blame and crying foul because of capitalism. There is a deeper problem here.

So-called "journalists" are their own worse enemy. They are not the victims. They are the perpetrators. They are unable to put aside their political intolerance and ideological bigotry long enough to write a truthful and accurate account of the news without editorializing on their personal beliefs. This is what has caused people to flock to "click bait" headlines and seek out non-traditional news sources. The decade-plus landslide of advocacy journalism (antithetical as it is) is taking its toll on the industry and these little Marxists want to blame those who are making money at the expense of their jobs. As Christ said in Matthew 7:5, "You hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of your own eye; and then shall you see clearly to cast out the speck out of your brother's eye." Saving journalism will entail cleaning up truth and accuracy not attacking capitalism.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

Quake swarm unleashes 400 tiny temblors on Southern California.
What does it mean?

More than 430 tiny temblors have rattled Southern California in the past 10 days or so, some just strong enough to be felt by residents, LAist reports.

But the swarm of earthquakes hitting the Inland Empire, stretching from eastern Los Angeles to the Mojave Desert, probably doesn't indicate a major quake's on the way, KTLA reported.

"This is just a place where the earth sputters along instead of letting go all at once," seismologist Lucy Jones wrote on Twitter.

The two largest quakes, registering 3.4 and 3.2 magnitude, took place Sunday afternoon, KABC reported. Other earthquakes have reached as low as 0.8 magnitude.

But Jones wrote on Twitter that even some of the smaller quakes, normally undetectable, may have been felt by residents since most were relatively shallow.
"When the quake is only 1 mile down, instead of 5 miles or more, you are that much closer to the event," Jones wrote.

While quake swarms sometimes suggest a larger quake may be imminent, seismologist Robert Graves with the U.S. Geological Survey says that's "highly unlikely" this time, KTLA reported.

"This activity is probably related just to the ongoing tectonic stress that builds up in Southern California and is being relieved on some very small fault structures that do not reach the surface," Graves said, according to the station.

The warden at Coffield Unit in Anderson County, which is located about 90 minutes outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and houses roughly 4,200 criminal offenders, invited Gateway Church to baptize a handful of inmates in administrative segregation, or solitary confinement, where they spend 23 hours of their day behind solid, steel doors with air holes in them because of how dangerous they are.
Niles Holsinger, Gateway Coffield Prison campus pastor, told Fox News what he witnessed last Wednesday was "mind-blowing."

Five of the men - confirmed gang or cartel members - were brought into the gymnasium, shackled hand and foot and around the waist, and they had to clear the prison because of safety concerns.
"They couldn't lift their arms above their waist, each one has a guard on each arm, and wouldn't leave their side until they were in the water," Holsinger said.

Three of them were placed on one side. Two men on the other. A field guard told the pastor it was because they were from rival gangs and the only way for them to leave the gangs or cartels is death.
Holsinger spoke to each one of the guys in solitary confinement, each with a violent history.

"I have tried it my way my whole life and it's gotten me here," one of the prisoners told the campus pastor. "I want to try it God's way . . . we're going to come out of the water as new men."
One by one the men were baptized.
"These guys from two different gangs professed the same Lord and were baptized in the same water together and they walked out together, guards not holding onto their arms anymore because God had done something in their life," Holsinger said.

But it was what he saw afterward that shocked him.
Each of the inmates, dripping with water and fully clothed, were trembling in fear.

"These guys literally know they're putting their life at risk and they're doing it anyway," the campus pastor said. "Never one time in my life have I felt like my decision to follow Christ has put me in danger or discomfort . . . for these guys to come in and they were so humble and gentle . . . to see them walking out trembling, they maybe been afraid for their life not knowing what would happen, but they did not regret the decision they had just made. That was mind-blowing to me."

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
