Holy Week: Day Three

READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:22-28

Who looks forward to turning on the news these days? All we seem to hear about are problems. People are losing jobs and savings. A person can get depressed listening to it all, and many people are fearful.

If you are facing hardship during these tough times, my heart goes out to you. Life isn't always fair or easy. You may feel you do not know where to turn. But one of the Bible's greatest truths is this: God never abandons us when life becomes difficult. He is always with us and wants to help us, even when things seem to be going wrong. He does not guarantee to reverse every misfortune, but if Christ lives in our hearts, we have His promise that nothing "in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:39).
What a guarantee! Instead of being fearful about the future, this Easter we can trust and believe that God is working a purpose in our lives. We can have hope!
Despite troubles and bad news, are you able to rejoice in the Gospel-the Good News of your salvation in Christ Jesus?

Our guide to our devotions was written by Billy Graham, and is titled "Victory: Preparing for Resurrection Sunday." Published by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, this special devotional for Holy Week can be found online by going here:

Focus on Israel

1. Explosion on Lebanon-Syria border reported as Israeli strike on Hezbollah outposts - Jerusalem Online

A loud explosion was heard on Sunday evening near the city of Baalbek in Lebanon. According to some media outlets, the explosion was an Israeli attack on a Hezbollah outpost near the border with Syria. The terrorist organization has denied this. In an interview two weeks ago, Hezbollah deputy chief Naim Qassem told Reuters that the organization was "prepared to deal with the Israeli aggression in case Israel chooses to make a stupid act of some sort." When asked about Israel's accusations that Hezbollah is assisting Iran in developing long-range missiles, Qassem said, "We do not provide military information about our capabilities, our allies or the deployment of our forces. These are secrets we are keeping to ourselves so as not to give free gifts to our enemies."

2. Syria accuses Israel of stealing artifacts from synagogue - Israel National News

JTA - Syria has accused Israel of stealing ancient and valuable Jewish artifacts from a historic synagogue near Damascus. In an official complaint filed with the United Nations Security Council last week, Syria accused Israel of smuggling religious books and other artifacts from the Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue in cooperation with Turkey and with terrorist groups operating in the area.

3. PA warns: Gaza on the verge of collapse - Israel National News

The Palestinian Authority (PA) official in charge of civil affairs, Hussein al-Sheikh, on Sunday spoke on the phone with Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon (Kulanu) and warned that, beginning April 1, the PA would stop paying salaries to its employees in Gaza. The halting of payments to tens of thousands of Gaza workers could cause a humanitarian crisis in the enclave. According to a report on Hadashot TV, Kahlon clarified to al-Sheikh that Israel would not agree that the internal war between the PA and Hamas would "explode on Israel," as he put it, and warned the PA against unilateral steps that might ignite Gaza.

4. Hamas: Palestinians will not give up 'one inch of Palestine' - Times of Israel

The Palestinians will not "give up one inch of Palestine" no matter how much time elapses, Mahmoud al-Zahar, a senior official of the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip declared on Monday. Zahar also warned Israel against targeting participants in the mass protests that his group and other Palestinian factions are planning in the coming weeks along the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel. The protests will be held under the banner of "March of Return" - a reference to the demand that Israel allow millions of Palestinians refugees and their descendants to return to their former homes inside Israel. Zahar said that the protests will be "peaceful." However, he warned that any attempt by Israel to target the protests would be met with an "appropriate response" from Hamas and other Palestinian factions.

The message behind the "March of Return," he said, was that the Palestinians would never "give up one inch of Palestine even after 70 - 700 - 7,000 years."

5. First Officially Sanctioned Settlement in 25 Years, Amichai Becomes Home to Amona Evacuees - Algemeiner

JNS.org - The first new Jewish community built with official sanction in more than 25 years will be inhabited on Monday, filled with the residents of Amona, who were expelled from their homes 14 months ago by order of the Supreme Court.

Temporary caravilla dwellings were set down in the new community of Amichai for the 42 families of Amona, who engaged in a protracted and highly publicized legal battle to remain in their homes, which they lost in February 2017. They have since resided together in a dormitory in the nearby community of Ofra.

In 2014, in a case brought years earlier by the Yesh Din pro-Palestinian legal aid organization, the Supreme Court found that a portion of the community of Amona was built on land belonging to Palestinians, and that the entire community should be destroyed.

The Daily Brief

1. "Why Trump Signed the Omnibus Bill That He Hated" - Education Views

Trump abhors the way the establishment in Congress operates. As a businessman, he has railed over and over about the Christmas tree mentality that allows Congress to create a 2,232 page Omnibus bill (similar to Obamacare) in which countless political "goodies" can be easily buried.

The only thing that could have caused Trump to sign such a "ridiculous" bill is that he as President knows the true state of our military. After eight long years of Obama's deliberate dismantling of our military strength, Trump inherited a terrible mess which puts every American's life at risk. Trump as President knows the unvarnished truth from those on the ground in the military, and he also is privy to the secret and viable threats from around the world. Knowing all of this must have forced him to sign the Omnibus bill that he hated to get the $700 Billion for the military.

(To read the true state of our military, go here.)

- Lord, we ask that You provide all that our military needs, all that was stolen from them under the previous administration. But we invite You to be our Lord, and to stand with us in these battles.

- "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7)

2. Trump Says Military Might Pay for Border Wall Since It's Now 'Rich'- Newsmax

President Donald Trump on Sunday defended his decision to sign a $1.3 trillion federal spending bill despite his misgivings, pointing to billions in new funding for the military and national security.

Trump said on Twitter from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida that because of the military funding, "many jobs are created and our Military is again rich." He said building his signature border wall "is all about National Defense" and suggested the military could pay for it.

Since grudgingly signing the bill on Friday after threatening a veto, Trump has faced fierce criticism from conservatives who have accused him of caving to congressional Democrats. The president said Friday at the White House he was "very disappointed" in the package, in part because it didn't fully pay for his border wall. But Trump said he had "no choice" because the nation needed to fund the military.

Trump sought $25 billion for his border wall, but the plan included much less - $1.6 billion for building new sections of wall and replacing older sections. Trump tweeted Sunday that much can be done with the money and it's "just a down payment." (Read more)

- Father, we pray that You would guide our President, since the spending bill was not an actual budget, to be wise and use the funds only according to Your will.

- "Receive my instruction and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold." (Proverbs 8:10)

3. Trump orders expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats, closure of consulate in Seattle - Fox News

President Trump on Monday ordered the expulsion of 60 Russian intelligence officers in the United States and the closure of the Russian consulate in Seattle in response to the nerve agent attack on an ex-Russian spy in the U.K. earlier this month, senior administration officials said.

The steps, following Britain's expulsion of Russian diplomats, are meant to send a message to Moscow that actions have consequences, the officials said. The Seattle consulate is being closed because of its proximity to submarine bases, as well as Boeing. "With these steps, the United States and our allies and partners make clear to Russia that its actions have consequences," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. "The United States stands ready to cooperate to build a better relationship with Russia, but this can only happen with a change in the Russian government's behavior." (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for the soul of Vladimir Putin as he contemplates his retaliation, which we know is coming. Thank You, Father, for this strong action against Russia. May it protect America's air and sea resources from Russia snooping.

- "Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes. For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught." ( Proverbs 3:25,26)

4. Russian envoy says relations with US in crisis, retaliation likely - Fox News

The Russian ambassador to the United Nations said Monday that relations between Moscow and Washington had deteriorated to the point of crisis after the U.S. and other western nations expelled dozens of Russia diplomats they accused of being spies.

Vassily Nebenzia spoke briefly to reporters outside a diplomatic luncheon in New York hours after President Trump ordered 60 Russian diplomats out of the U.S. and closed down the Russian consulate in Seattle. When one reporter asked whether U.S.-Russia relations were in crisis, Nebenzia said: "It's been [in crisis for] some time already. Didn't you notice?"

Nebenzia declined to speculate about potential retaliation from the Kremlin, but did tell reporters that "diplomacy supposes that there is a response when such things happen." (Read more)

- Lord God, only You can protect us from any scheme of retaliation that might be hatched behind closed doors at the Kremlin. You, O Lord, are our protector and our shield. Amen.

- "O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; Do not further his wicked scheme, Lest they be exalted." (Psalm 140:7,8)

5. Russian Hackers Attacking U.S. Power Grid and Aviation, FBI Warns - Bloomberg

Russian hackers are conducting a broad assault on the U.S. electric grid, water processing plants, air transportation facilities and other targets in rolling attacks on some of the country's most sensitive infrastructure, U.S. government officials said Thursday. The announcement was the first official confirmation that Russian hackers have taken aim at facilities on which hundreds of millions of Americans depend for basic services. Bloomberg News reported in July that Russian hackers had breached more than a dozen power plants in seven states, an aggressive campaign that has since expanded to dozens of states, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

"Since at least March 2016, Russian government cyber actors" have targeted "government entities and multiple U.S. critical infrastructure sectors," including those of energy, nuclear, water and aviation, according to an alert issued Thursday by the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray Your covering of protection over all US power grids. As we stand before You in repentance for our many sins, we thank You for extending Your wings over the United States, repelling any and all attacks.

- "He shall cover your with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge." (Psalm 91:4)

6. Russia denies aiding Afghan Taliban in wake of U.S. general's comments - Reuters

In an interview with the BBC last week, General John Nicholson said that Russia had been acting to undermine U.S. efforts in Afghanistan despite shared interests in fighting terrorism and narcotics, with indications that Moscow was providing financial support and even arms. "We've had weapons brought to this headquarters and given to us by Afghan leaders and said this was given by the Russians to the Taliban," he said.

A statement from the Russian embassy in Kabul dismissed the comments as "idle gossip", repeating previous denials by Russian officials. "Once again, we insist that such statements are absolutely baseless and appeal to officials not to talk nonsense," the embassy said.

U.S. commanders, including Nicholson, have said on several occasions over the past year that Russia may be supplying arms to the Taliban although no confirmed evidence has so far been made public. However, Nicholson's comments were unusually blunt and came in a context of growing tensions between NATO members and Moscow over the case of Sergei Skripal, a former intelligence agent found poisoned with a rare nerve agent in Britain. (Read more)

- Lord, wherever Russia may be working with our enemies, we pray that it would not just be revealed, but stopped in its tracks.

- "The proud have dug pits for me, which is not according to Your law." (Psalm 119:85)

7. China appeals for cooperation as it warns of 'trade war'- NY Post

A top Chinese official warned Sunday that a "trade war" would harm all sides but gave no indication of Beijing's possible next move in a spiraling dispute with President Donald Trump over steel and technology.

Speaking to global business leaders at a development forum, Vice Premier Han Zheng appealed for cooperation to make economic globalization "beneficial for all." "A trade war serves the interests of none," Han said at the China Development Forum. "It will only lead to serious consequences and negative impact."

Han didn't mention Trump by name or refer directly to the dispute with Washington, but the country's newly appointed economy czar warned Saturday that Beijing will defend its interests. The government issued a $3 billion list on Friday of U.S. goods including pork and stainless steel pipes it said might be hit by higher tariffs. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that only Your will be done on this tariff situation. We have been taken advantage of for many years, and our workers have suffered greatly. Let the President not be deceived by China's tricks, but let him be given Your wisdom and knowledge.

"Teach me to do Your will, for You are My God." (Psalm 143:10a)

8. Dow posts biggest one-day point gain since 2008- Fox News

The Dow recorded its biggest one-day point gain since 2008 on Monday, as reports of trade talks between the U.S. and China reduced fears of a possible trade war. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 669.40 points, or 2.84%, to 24,202.60 at the close. . .

The rally followed the worst week for equities in more than two years, driven in part by investors' concerns about U.S. tariffs targeting China. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he approved of a plan to impose tariffs on about $50 billion in Chinese imports. China responded by saying it would pursue reciprocal tariffs, targeting $3 billion in U.S. goods such as steel, wine and pork.

But U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Fox News that he has spoken to Chinese officials, adding that he's "hopeful" the two sides can reach an agreement on trade. Reports suggest that the U.S. is seeking greater access to Chinese markets as part of the negotiations. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for this good report from the Stock Market yesterday. Lord, by Your grace, our people do not fear China, nor the new tariffs that President Trump has imposed upon that nation. Thank You, Lord, amen.

- "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)

9. South African Racist EFF Leader: Whites Must Leave Their Keys to Property-Equipment and Leave - Don't Irritate Us - Gateway Pundit/News 24

Racists must go to Australia - but should leave the keys to their equipment and property behind, said EFF leader Julius Malema during a Human Rights Day rally in Mpumalanga on Wednesday. "A racist country like Australia says 'EFF wants to kill white farmers - they must come to Australia'," explained Malema to a roaring and red-clad crowd at the Mpumalanga Stadium. "If they want to go, they must go."

However, he added: "They must leave the keys of the tractors because we want to work the land; they must leave the keys of the houses, because we want to live in those houses. They must leave everything that they did not come with to South Africa."

He said those who emigrated must "leave quietly" because those who stayed "are too busy". Don't make a noise because you will irritate us." (Read more)

- Father, we pray for mercy over the white farmers of South Africa, and ask for You to bring peace to their lives. If that be a form of secession or a huge move of Your Spirit, we simply pray for their souls and their well-being.

- "To hear the groaning of the prisoner, to loose those appointed to death." (Psalm 102:20)

Additional News for Prayer

1. Republicans push to end Dems' stranglehold on key ambassadorial nominee - Fox News

Senate Republicans fed up with the Democrats' refusal to allow confirmation votes on a slew of critical appointments - including the high-profile case of the Trump administration's first openly gay ambassadorial nominee - may move more aggressively to finally break the logjam. "It's time to end this partisan spectacle. We have 78 more nominees for various jobs who've made it through their committee hearings and are waiting for a vote on this floor," Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said on the floor of the Senate last week. "Most of these people have bipartisan support, they can be confirmed easily."

Barrasso wants to change a rule that allows for 30 hours of Senate discussion for each nominee, which Republicans say effectively allows Democrats to jam up the appointment process to a ridiculously slow crawl. Barrasso wants to limit the number of hours of discussion down to eight - a standard Democrats themselves supported under the Obama administration. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You will do whatever it takes to remove this stalemate in Congress. May Your will and Your will only be done with this situation.

- "My soul has dwelt too long with one who hates peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war." (Psalm 120:6,7)

2. David Hogg's Next Crusade: Opposing Voter Identification Laws - Daily Wire

The March for Our Lives may have been the Parkland activist students' magnum opus, but they are by no means done agitating for leftist policies. The only relevant legislation on the horizon, the STOP School Violence Act, passed without their support, and there are few gun regulations likely to pass.

So, at least one Parkland student is seeking to expand his policy agenda; David Hogg is battling voter ID laws. That's right: he may believe you should have photo identification in order to exercise your Second Amendment rights, but is iffy on whether you should have similar paperwork to cast a ballot. (Read more)

- Lord, liberals have had a philosophy of "never letting a good crisis go to waste," and this child is exemplifying that mentality. We ask that You thwart this agenda at every turn, and scatter their efforts. May Your Holy Spirit move over this entire movement of children who are being lead by false witnesses to change their hearts to follow You.

- "For behold, Your enemies shall perish, all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered." (Psalm 92:9)

3. Pa. school district arms teachers, students with buckets of rocks in case of shooting - Washington Times

A Pennsylvania school district is arming classrooms with buckets of rocks as a last-ditch defense against mass shooters. David Helsel, superintendent of the Blue Mountain School District in Schuylkill County, told ABC News on Friday that every elementary, middle and high school classroom in the district is stocked with a 5-gallon bucket full of river stones for students and teachers to pelt an armed intruder.

"We've been trying to be proactive just in case," Mr. Helsel said. "How can you aim a gun if you're being pelted with rocks?"

Mr. Helsel said faculty members and students are given active shooter training through a program known as ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, a local ABC affiliate reported. The stones, he said, serve as a last resort for if a shooter is able to gain access to a locked down classroom. (Read more)

The School District has decided to add armed security instead of the rocks via Fox News. (Go here for more)

- Father, we ask that You would move through our educational system from the ground up bringing truth and wisdom instead of foolish ideas. Let Your Holy Spirit protect and save our children in the midst of the dangerous atmosphere and tremendous indoctrination today.

- "You have a mighty arm; strong is Your hand and high is Your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundations of Your throne." (Psalm 89:13,14)

4. Facebook Suppresses Certain Media Outlets In Your Newsfeed. It Won't Tell You Which Ones - Daily Caller

Within the span of eight days in January, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced two different key changes to Facebook's newsfeed algorithm that together have boosted a "trusted" minority of news outlets while suppressing their competitors. The algorithm changeshave disproportionately harmed conservative publishers, tech website The Outline concluded in a lengthy report earlier in March.

Conservatives essentially have to take Facebook's word for it that they're being treated fairly, since Facebook won't reveal which publishers are considered "trusted" and which aren't.

Some conservatives have warned that Facebook will strangle conservative messaging on the platform - giving the Left a massive political advantage - in order to placate liberals who might otherwise regulate the company. "Conservative activists and publishers need to think long and hard about how to reach their audience when the tech giants are proving themselves willing to filter out their content, and when they've come up with tools for alternately repressing speech and enabling political manipulation, so long as it goes the right way," National Review's Michael Brendan Dougherty argued in a column this week.

"To the center-Left, it doesn't matter how much Silicon Valley's tools enable extremists in the Third World, or how much wealth they extract from the public treasuries through their tax-sheltering arrangements," Dougherty wrote. "All that matters is that the new tools continue to keep the center-Left in power, and make them look glamorous and smart. This is a deal that Silicon Valley will take." (Read more)

- Lord, Facebook has been at the forefront of many technologies, but they have also been a foe to Conservatives since the beginning. We pray that all truth of these problems be revealed, and that You will stop them from their nefarious plans.

- "Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land." (Psalm 101:8a)

5. Courthouse Cafe Owners Face Eviction for Playing Christian Music - Todd Starnes

Carlo Magno and his wife have been serving hot cups of coffee and warm muffins to judges and attorneys at the court house in Rancho Cucamonga, California for the past 11 years.

Cafe Justice is a popular gathering spot for plaintiffs, defendants and staffers looking for a respite from the stress of the day. The walls of the cafe are decorated with inspirational Christian messages and there music playlist includes several contemporary Christian songs.

Last October, the cafe's religious music and inspirational decor triggered microaggressions among local atheists. A complaint was filed with the San Bernardino County Department of Real Estate Services, the cafe's landlord. A few weeks later the Magnos were notified that their location was going to be put up for public bid status.

"We were encouraged to include in our proposal for bid, that we would not play our religious music or have any religious decorations," Mr. Magno told me. (Read more)

- Father, we ask for strength and wisdom for this café owner. We also ask that You prevent this action from causing them to lose Your Presence in this establishment. We rebuke the father of lies and cause this café owner to be blessed and able stand strong against the works of the enemy.

- "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake." (Matthew 5:11)

6. Alice Cooper believes his faith saved him from alcoholism, temptations of rock star lifestyle- Fox News

Alice Cooper had a major wake-up call nearly 40 years ago, when he found himself throwing up blood. "Everything that could go wrong was shutting down inside of me," Cooper, who is preparing to reprise his role as King Herod in NBC's live version of "Jesus Christ Superstar," told the New York Daily News' Confidential. The rocker, who saw his good friends and fellow musicians die young, knew he needed to clean up his act. "I was drinking with Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix and trying to keep up with Keith Moon and they all died at 27," Cooper recalled.

The legendary rocker said it was at that moment he knew he either had to give up drinking or he would die too. It was then that Cooper turned to his faith. "My wife and I are both Christian," the 70-year-old said. "My father was a pastor, my grandfather was an evangelist. I grew up in the church, went as far away as I could from it - almost died - and then came back to the church." (Read more)

- Thank You, Lord that this rock legend has given You credit for saving his life. We ask that many will find You because of his testimony.

- "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." (Hebrews 2:9)

March for tyranny

On one hand, it's great to see so many young people getting involved in the political process. On the other hand, it's disappointing that they are so deceived and misled. The public school system in this country has allowed the National Education Association as influenced by communist John Dewey's "progressive education" movement to undermine our country and brainwash our children against the fundamental principles of the Constitution. The kids that marched across the nation to protest guns were mostly unknowing dupes of communist front groups who wish to tear down the nation and make it into a socialist society beholden to tyranny. They do so in the name of safety and liberty.

March for our Lives allegedly has been funded in part by billionaire leftist George Soros. The organization's website mentions no leadership or sponsors. No board of directors. No contact person. Yet it has voter registration packets, anti-gun propaganda, anti-National Rifle Association materials, and how and where to protest. In other words, kids who signed up for this protest have no documented idea of who they are in league with. And of course, because their NEA teachers and school administrators are supporting this new "revolution," it seems ok to them. Notwithstanding, if they were told that the people organizing this movement were those who wanted to oppress all their rights, they wouldn't believe it.

Those speaking on behalf of gun control are foul mouthed, angry and emotional. They do not understand that there is no gun legislation that will stop an immoral, evil, or mentally ill person from getting a gun and using it. This is a moral problem, not a weapon problem. The very same people who have taken moral training out of school-the separation of church and state crowd-are the same who are trying to ban guns. They want no part of God or country, especially the way that country is defined with America. As 2 John 1:7 says, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh." To communists, God is government.

These people have attempted, and for the most part succeeded, to take away free speech and freedom of religion in our schools. They have brainwashed kids into believing that religion has no place in their daily lives, and that the only free speech is speech that supports communistic and revolutionary ideals. Thus we have kids who believe that the Bill of Rights is outdated and must be deconstructed. Ephesians 5:6 says, "Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things come the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience." In being instruments of deceivers, disobedient, and rebellious, these kids will suffer consequences in due time. They think they are marching for their lives, when in reality they are marching for tyranny. Sad.

Have a blessed and powerful day!

JESUS SHALL REIGN

"He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth." (Psalm 72:8)

Lyrics

Jesus shall reign where'er the sun Does his successive journeys run; His kingdom stretch from shore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

Behold the islands with their kings, And Europe her best tribute brings; From north to south the princes meet, To pay their homage at His feet.

There Persia, glorious to behold, There India shines in eastern gold; And barb'rous nations at His word Submit, and bow, and own their Lord.

To Him shall endless prayer be made, And praises throng to crown His head; His Name like sweet perfume shall rise With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on His Name.

Blessings abound wherever He reigns; The prisoner leaps to lose his chains; The weary find eternal rest, And all the sons of want are blessed.

Where He displays His healing power, Death and the curse are known no more: In Him the tribes of Adam boast More blessings than their father lost.

Let every creature rise and bring Peculiar honors to our King; Angels descend with songs again, And earth repeat the loud amen!

Great God, whose universal sway The known and unknown worlds obey, Now give the kingdom to Thy Son, Extend His power, exalt His throne.

The scepter well becomes His hands; All Heav'n submits to His commands; His justice shall avenge the poor, And pride and rage prevail no more.

With power He vindicates the just, And treads th'oppressor in the dust: His worship and His fear shall last Till hours, and years, and time be past.

As rain on meadows newly mown, So shall He send his influence down: His grace on fainting souls distills, Like heav'nly dew on thirsty hills.

The heathen lands, that lie beneath The shades of overspreading death, Revive at His first dawning light; And deserts blossom at the sight.

The saints shall flourish in His days, Dressed in the robes of joy and praise; Peace, like a river, from His throne Shall flow to nations yet unknown.

About the Hymn:

Perhaps one of the most interesting occasions on which this hymn was used was that on which King George, the sable, of the South Sea Islands, but of blessed memory, gave a new constitution to his people, exchanging a heathen for a Christian form of government. Under the spreading branches of the banyan trees sat some thousand natives from Tonga, Fiji, and Samoa, on Whitsunday, 1862, assembled for Divine worship. Foremost amongst them all sat King George himself. Around him were seated old chiefs and warriors who had shared with him the dangers and fortunes of many a battle-men whose eyes were dim, and whose powerful frames were bowed down with the weight of years. But old and young alike rejoiced together in the joys of that day, their faces most of them radiant with Christian joy, love, and hope. It would be impossible to describe the deep feeling manifested when the solemn service began, by the entire audience singing Dr. Watts' hymn . . .

Who so much as they could realize the full meaning of the poet's words? For they had been rescued from the darkness of heathenism and cannibalism and they were that day met for the first time under a Christian constitution, under a Christian king, and with Christ Himself reigning in the hearts of most of those present. That was indeed Christ's kingdom set up in the earth.

'TIS THE SEASON FOR 'STEVE'

STEVE is an aurora-like phenomenon that researchers are only beginning to understand. For many years, northern sky watchers reported the form occasionally dancing alongside auroras. It was widely called a "proton arc" until researchers pointed out that protons had nothing to do with it. So members of the Alberta Aurora Chasers group gave it a new name: "Steve" (since upgraded to STEVE, an acronym for 'Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement.')

The first clues to the nature of STEVE came in 2016 when one of the European Space Agency's Swarm satellites encountered the phenomenon. "As the satellite flew straight though 'Steve,' the temperature jumped by 3000°C and the data revealed a 25 km-wide ribbon of gas flowing westwards at about 6 km/s (13,000 mph)," reports Eric Donovan from the University of Calgary.
Donovan and a team of colleagues led by Elizabeth MacDonald of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center have just published a paper on STEVE. In it, they confirm that STEVE is distinct from ordinary auroras, usually forming to the south of active Northern Lights. The mauve and purple colored arcs, they say, are related to supersonic rivers of gas called "subauroral ion drifts" (SAIDs), which flow through Earth's magnetic field. Earth-orbiting satellites have tracked thousands of SAIDs: they tend to appear near latitude +60 degrees, and occur more frequently during spring and fall than summer and winter.
This last point means that now is the season for STEVE. The onset of northern spring seems to lure the arc out of winter hiding.

"I saw STEVE for the first time on March 18th," reports Giuseppe Petricca , who took this sequence of pictures from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland:

The Good News Corner

Israeli Technology Can Now Make Water from Thin Air

"Water from the ground has been contaminated by sewage, chemicals [and] heavy metals . . . When we test the water from the air, however, it will be completely clean-the molecules themselves. So this is our biggest and huge advantage: Our source is much cleaner than the groundwater source." -Avi Peretz

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is hailing an extraordinary water-generation technology invented in Israel that he declares "can change the world."

In a speech to AIPAC in March, the Israeli leader told the story of an African woman who used to walk "eight hours a day to give water to her children." (Breaking Christian News) Read more.

About CHPP

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
Friends may participate by receiving our daily prayer alerts. You may contact us at chpp1994@gmail.com for more information. CHPP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ministry. Thank you and God bless you!
