The Daily Brief - Tuesday, May 1, 2012

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. Blessed are the people he has chosen as his own." (Psalm 33:12)

Please note: This is an abbreviated edition of the Daily Brief.

The Daily Brief

1. Nuclear experts: Fukushima crisis may become 'global catastrophe' - RT

A nuclear watchdog official told RT News that the ongoing crisis at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan could become a "global catastrophe", echoing warnings from other experts.

- Lord, as the nuclear watchdog watches, we as Your people watch and pray that this nuclear global catastrophe would be avoided. We pray wisdom for those working on the Japan power plant problem; give strategies in solving these problems. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
(1 Peter 4:7)

2. U.S. signals major shift on Iran nuclear program - LA Times

In what would be a significant concession, Obama administration officials say they could support allowing Iran to maintain a crucial element of its disputed nuclear program if Tehran took other major steps to curb its ability to develop a nuclear bomb.

- Lord, we continue to pray for the officials to have godly wisdom in decisions concerning Iran. We pray for true leadership and justice concerning this nuclear crisis. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion. (Zechariah 7:9)

3. Obama Fails to Stem Middle-Class Slide He Blamed on Bush - Bloomberg

Barack Obama campaigned four years ago assailing President George W. Bush for wage losses suffered by the middle class. More than three years into Obama's own presidency, those declines have only deepened.

- Lord, our decline and loss of blessings come in disobedience to You. We repent for the country's rebellion against You. We intercede during this week of National Day of Prayer over our country. May we turn to You as our provider that we may again be blessed by You. We agree with President Lincoln in saying, "May we have a new birth of freedom under God." We pray for our leadership - and our people - for an awakening to the real blame and cause of our decline. In the name of Jesus, our Provider, we pray. Amen.

- Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
(Deuteronomy 28:1-2)

4. Officials Watch for Terrorists With Body Bombs on US-Bound Planes - ABC News

With the anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death looming, American and European authorities told ABC News today that they fear al Qaeda may soon try to explode U.S.-bound aircraft with explosives hidden inside the bodies of terrorists.

- Lord, we pray for continued exposure of terrorists and their plans. We pray for mercy and protection of our country. Let the plans of the enemy fail. In the name of Jesus, our Protector, we pray. Amen.

- Blessing are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
(Proverbs 10:6)

5. 'Occupy' Promises Shutdown of NY and SF
- CNS News

As part of Occupy Wall Street's call for a nationwide "general strike" May 1, elements within the group are looking to shut down bridges and tunnels in both New York and San Francisco.

- Lord, we lift up the Occupy movement and ask for Your intervention in their plans of disruption. We pray that Your intervention would be a witness to the Occupiers. We pray for a change of heart in these protestors. We pray these rebellious people will know truth and not be deceived. We pray for an awakening to the dangers of the movement. We lift up law enforcement to You, and ask for their protection and wisdom in dealing with situations that arise. We pray for increased intercession by Your people. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen

- For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
(1 Samuel 15:23)

Stemming the Islamic massacre of Christians in Africa

My Christian brother William and I have shared a longstanding 20 year friendship, relationship and family bond in Yeshua. William is in Ghana, West Africa, and together we have been doing mission work there. Our ministry is particularly important as well as dangerous these days. Christians in rural West Africa are endangered. Just last weekend, for example, the Boko Haram, an Islamic terrorist group in Nigeria, slaughtered 16 Christians at the University in Kano. The Boko Haram has declared that Western education is forbidden and it has set out to create a Christian-free Nigeria. Christians can leave, convert or die. Same thing with the terrorist Fulani in Ghana, who migrated from Nigeria.
The Christian response in Ghana largely has been an import of Western culture where there is little outreach and much emphasis on tithing and control--all under the auspices of better Christian living. Ministers that I met 20 years ago have caved in to the Western concepts along with the money and fame. Their pictures are on billboards advertising their churches and conferences. They are dressed in expensive suits and are wearing gold watches and jewelry, giving the impression that Christianity means wealth. Meanwhile, their Christian brothers and sisters in the rural areas are being harassed, murdered and enslaved by Islamization. Our ministry is dedicated to answer this direct threat of Islam.

William explains: "Our outreach coordinators operate in hostile environments that call for extra, extra caution regarding how they function. The slightest word out of place or step in the wrong direction may bring about instant death or serious harm to one's body. As such, the rule of thumb is to express abundance love to the Muslims. That works miraculously! To express love is to primarily provide most of them with food, gifts and acceptance of their persons. Unfortunately, the operations of our outreach coordinators are hindered because they themselves are very poor individuals needing help too! Without support from us, there is nothing much that they can do. The situation is simply overwhelming."

I believe that our small efforts are helping stem the tide of Islamic aggression in Ghana. We are seeing progress. We do not want to see in Ghana what is happening regularly to our brothers and sisters in Nigeria. We do not want to see in America what is happening in West Africa. As Romans 12:21 says, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." You do not have to look far to see the impact of Islam. You also do not have to look far to see the impact of Christianity. Anyone thinking that they can work with Islam on issues of common ground will someday be enslaved or killed by Islam. We do not serve the same god. We need to be about our Father's business as if our lives depended on it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
