The Daily Brief - Friday, May 4, 2012
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. Blessed are the people he has chosen as his own." (Psalm 33:12)
The Daily Brief
1. Congress Revolts On Obama Plan That Would Ban 'Buy American' - Huffington Post.
A trade agreement currently under negotiation contains language that could potentially ban "Buy American" provisions, crimping American manufacturing.
WASHINGTON -- A group of 68 House Democrats and one Republican sent a letter to President Barack Obama on Thursday urging him to reconsider an element of the controversial free trade agreement currently being negotiated by the administration. Although the deal, known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, has received relatively little media attention in the United States, it is being published world-wide. Obama's plan is to remove "favored nation" status for some countries."We do not believe this approach is in the best interests of U.S. manufacturers and U.S. workers," the letter reads. "Of special concern is the prospect that firms established in TPP countries, such as the many Chinese firms in Vietnam, could obtain waivers from Buy American policies. This could result in large sums of U.S. tax dollars being invested to strengthen other countries' manufacturing sectors, rather than our own."
b.) Obama: April jobs report reflects trend of good news, but 'we've got to do more' - Fox News
Obama says the economy keeps creating jobs, but with many still out of work, "we've got to do more." The April jobs report out Friday shows a second straight month of sluggish growth, with the economy adding 115,000 jobs, fewer than expected. The April jobs report out Friday shows a second straight month of sluggish growth, with the economy adding 115,000 jobs, fewer than expected. The pace of job growth is down significantly from earlier this year.
c.) Jobless claims post biggest drop in a year - MSNBC
The Labor Department said Thursday that seasonally-adjusted claims fell 27,000 to 365,000 in the week ended April 28. However, an independent survey on Wednesday showed private employers added only 119,000 jobs last month, the fewest in seven months, and well below economists' expectations for a gain of 177,000 positions.
- Father, these three stories appear to be "at odds" with one another. We thank You that - as we have requested - You have exposed the secret negotiations between Congress and the President concerning this "Trans-Pacific Partnership" that threatens to take away American jobs. We pray that any, and all things done by the government in secret, would be exposed and dealt with accordingly, for the good of the U.S. workers and our economy. We have been asking for months that You would help those without employment to have creative ideas to generate income to feed their families. We ask now that You would give Your discernment and wisdom to Congress - and to our President - to do what is best for our nation's economy and job growth. Amen!
- "Teach me good discernment and knowledge, For I believe in Your commandments." (Psalm 119:66)
2. Methodists uphold policy that calls homosexuality 'incompatible with Christian teaching' - Washington Post
Despite emotional protests and fierce lobbying from gay rights groups, United Methodists voted on Thursday (May 2) to maintain their denomination's stance that homosexuals acts are "incompatible with Christian teaching."
- Father, we thank You for the courage and integrity of heart of these folks, who have chosen to maintain their beliefs in what You have said in Your Word about this issue. Protect them from any violence or retribution. May they experience Your peace in the midst of the storm. Amen.
-" If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination." (Leviticus 20:13)
3. Al Qaeda Magazine Calls for Firebomb Campaign in US - ABC News
The men who launched al Qaeda's English-language magazine may have died in a U.S. missile strike last fall, but "Inspire" magazine lives on without them -- and continues to promote jihadi attacks on Western targets, offering detailed advice on how to start huge forest fires in America with timed explosives and how to build remote-controlled bombs.
- Abba, we know we live in dangerous times, and we thank You for Your "watch-care" over us. We bind up fear from our people, and pray that we would all find our refuge and sanity in You. We ask You to thwart the plans of our enemies - expose their plans made in secret - and may they be ensnared by their own traps. We ask that You would reveal Yourself as a God Who loves peace, and Who loves them. Protect us, O Lord.
- "An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble. A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his words, And the deeds of a man's hands will return to him." (Proverbs 12:13,14)
4. Russia threatens to strike NATO missile defense sites - The Telegraph
Russia's top military officer warned Thursday that Moscow would strike NATO missile-defense sites in Eastern Europe before they are ready for action, if the U.S. pushes ahead with deployment. "A decision to use destructive force pre-emptively will be taken if the situation worsens," Russian Chief of General Staff Nikolai Makarov said at an international missile-defense conference in Moscow attended by senior U.S. and NATO officials.
- Lord, we come to You as Lord of Hosts, and ask for wisdom for our leaders, as well as discernment and understanding concerning our enemies. We bind up intimidation and threats against our people. We ask that our leaders would put their trust in You, and move forward in protecting this nation from all would-be aggressors. We thank You for Your protection.
- "A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent." (Psalm 91:7-10)

1. Fatah, Hamas meeting ends without unity deal - Ynet News
A Cairo meeting between Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal and an official of the rival Fatah movement made no headway on the formation of a Palestinian national unity government, an official said on Thursday.
2. Barak: Olmert and former Mossad, Shin Bet chiefs serving Iran - Ha'aretz
Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday harshly condemned former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, former Mossad chief Meir Dagan, and former Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin for downplaying the threat from Iran, saying the three are serving Tehran.
3. Iran: Israeli nukes greatest threat to peace - Ynet News
A senior Iranian official said that Israel's undeclared nuclear weapons pose the greatest threat to Mideast peace and accused the United States and other nuclear powers of hypocritically ignoring their disarmament commitments.
4. Netanyahu the clear favorite heading into Israel's upcoming elections - Ha'aretz
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu can rest easy after reading the results of the latest Haaretz-Dialog poll: Not only does he trounce all his rivals on the question of who is most fit to lead the country, but an absolute majority of Israelis reject the aspersions cast on him last week by former Shin Bet security service chief Yuval Diskin.

Panetta: National Defense threatened by global warming
Just to cite an example of America's spiritual condition-- US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told the militant left Thursday night that "the area of climate change has a dramatic impact on national security. Rising sea levels, severe droughts, the melting of the polar caps, the more frequent and devastating natural disasters all raise demand for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief." Really? This is just one more example of humanism and dominionism. The American people should demand that this man be removed from his position because he is delusional. Panetta, who is in charge of protecting our lives, families and property, ties national security to humanistic fraud.
Panetta, of course, is pandering to a liberal group to get their campaign support. The Environmental Defense Fund is a leftist group that bullies industry and uses the court system to legislate environmental policy. Panetta, however, has apparently not read the reports about the lies of global warming and its proven bad science. Recently compiled and documented by Examiner Columnist Mona Charen, global warming is a fraud. Charen documented how the UN climate panel admitted that the melting Himalayas were actually not melting, and that drowning polar bears were not drowning. In fact, the entire "science" of global warming has been proven unfounded because scientists made up the data.
Notwithstanding the pandering, it is deeply troubling that a man in as high of a position as Panetta would have a complete misunderstanding of the mission of the Defense Department and the US military. The Preamble to the US Constitution says, "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." The military is to provide for the common defense, not be an extension of the Red Cross for humanitarian aid.
Moreover, Panetta's entire approach underscores the ignorance of this Administration regarding the times we live in. Yeshua tells us in Matthew 24:4-7 what the end times will look like: "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places." Revelation goes into more detail. Our national defense is more threatened by the spiritual condition of the nation, than by global warming. Panetta is just one example.
