"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." (James 4:8a)
The Daily Brief
1. Rockefellers and Rothschilds unite - NewsCore/CNBC
The Rothschilds and the Rockefellers, two of the world's greatest family dynasties, are pooling their vast resources.
The Financial Times (FT) reported yesterday that Lord Jacob Rothschild's listed investment trust, RIT Capital Partners, agreed to take a 37 per cent stake in Rockefeller Financial Services for an undisclosed amount.
The financial marriage of convenience is designed to give Rothschild a valuable foothold in the US, according to the newspaper.
- Lord, as we see this partnership take place, we ask for Your wisdom. As more and more foreign interests take foothold in the United States, we pray that the outcome will be blessing to the American people.
- "The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it." [Proverbs 10:22]
2. Spain faces 'total emergency' as fear grips markets - UK Telegraph
Spain is facing the gravest danger since the end of the Franco dictatorship as the country is frozen out of global capital markets and slides towards an epic showdown with Europe.
- Father, we bind fear in the Name of Jesus Christ, and apply the cross of Christ against it. We ask that You turn this situation into Your Glory, and use it to bring the hearts of the European people back to You.
- "Turn at My reproof; surely I will pour out My Spirit on you; I will make My words known to you." [Proverbs 1:23]
3. 'Sons of Stuxnet' threaten energy infrastructure - Jerusalem Post
Global energy infrastructure is more vulnerable than ever in an escalating cyber war thanks to "sons of Stuxnet" electronic missiles, which can be created from the virus designed to sabotage Iran's nuclear program.
- Lord, we erect a hedge of protection around the energy infrastructures of the nations, and ask that You stand guard over them. We thank You for the protection of the Holy Spirit, and Your heavenly host, in all areas where these "missiles" might be deployed.
- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." [Isaiah 54:17]
4. Court: Heart of Gay Marriage Law Unconstitutional - AP
An appeals court ruled Thursday that the heart of a law that denies a host of federal benefits to gay married couples is unconstitutional.
The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, discriminates against married same-sex couples by denying them federal benefits.
- Father, we thank You that no matter what the courts or man may say, Your Word stands throughout time. We ask that the portions of this law which guard righteous relationships will stand strong.
-"So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." [Isaiah 55:11]
5. Images Appear to Show Iran Nuclear Test Site Cleanup - The Wall Street Journal
New satellite photographs published by a Washington think tank appear to show intensified efforts by Iran over the past week to cleanse a military site south of Tehran suspected of being used for nuclear-weapons research.
The Iranian actions could affect a tentative deal reached last week between Tehran and the United Nations' nuclear watchdog that was aimed at granting inspectors expansive access to facilities, scientists and documents allegedly related to nuclear-weapons work.

A Pennsylvania father pleaded guilty to child endangerment for abandoning his teenage daughter at a mall over a bad grade she received at school.
Tuan Huynh, 47, of Montgomery County, dropped his 16-year-old daughter off near Cheltenham Square Mall and told her she could not come home, Fox affiliate WTXF-TV reported. He told the teenager she no longer met her parents' expectations because she had received a bad grade on a calculus test, according to the station. Assistant District Attorney Cara McMenamin told the station that the girl wandered around the Cheltenham Mall for hours before a minister finally approached her and called for help.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Wednesday that Israel should consider unilateral moves if negations with the Palestinians fail to bear fruit.
TAXPAYERS ARE PAYING FOR ABORTIONS
Congressmen Bill Huizenga and Dan Boren introduced H.R. 5646, the Homeland Security Respect for Life Act, which closes loopholes that allow taxpayer funds to be used for abortions for illegal immigrants in detention by the Department of Homeland Security. The bill mirrors language that is currently included in the annual Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill which prohibits taxpayer funding of abortions for federal detainees, but not those under DHS jurisdiction.
On Thursday, May 17, Members of Congress at a hearing in the U.S. House were told about how the nation's capital allows abortions all the way until birth. They were informed that one abortion facility in the District of Columbia openly advertises abortions at seven months into pregnancy, paid for via cash or credit card.
No more than five nations in the world have a legal policy that is this extreme, three doctors told members of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution. They supported the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803), that would protect unborn children in the District after they have reached 20 weeks fetal age. (Intercessors for America)
- Ask the Lord to bring changes to the policies in our nation that would allow abortions at any point within the pregnancy! Ask the Lord for His help for those who have the power to change these abominations. Ask for forgiveness for using federal dollars for abortion.
- "And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech." (2 Kings 23:10)
Adios Mexico City Policy?
Weeks like this one should make us grateful for the times when the Senate does nothing! The more work Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) does, the less secure our values seem to be. One week ago, during a rare moment of Senate activity, leaders tried to turn an appropriations bill into a permanent repeal of pro-life law. Under Sen. Frank Lautenberg's language, the U.S. would agree to send millions of dollars to international groups whether they provide abortions or not. For years, Presidents have batted the issue back and forth, starting with Ronald Reagan--who first issued the Mexico City Policy to turn off the funding spigots to overseas organizations who promote abortion as "family planning." He understood that the best way to reduce abortions is by cutting off the money to abortion organizations.
Unfortunately, President Clinton disagreed. When he took office, he overturned the policy--which kicked off a pattern of repealing and reinstating that's been repeated by Democratic and Republican Presidents right up to Barack Obama. Since the Mexico City Policy isn't law, its fate has always been determined by the Oval Office. Sen. Lautenberg's amendment would change all that. His measure would make it impossible for a pro-life President to trump the law with an executive order. As far as the Left is concerned, this amendment would guarantee that " this backwards policy never returns and protects access to family planning services for some of the world's poorest women."
Before heading out of town for Memorial Day, he managed to persuade enough members of the Appropriations Committee to pass his amendment 18-12. On the bright side, Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson (Nebr.) sided with the GOP. It's just too bad that a trio of squishy Republicans, including Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), couldn't find the backbone to join him.
If there is a silver lining, it's that the lower chamber voted down a similar amendment 23-27 last week. If Sen. Lindsey Graham's comments are any indication, the two sides are setting up a major collision on the overall legislation if this issue isn't resolved. "The House will not accept this," he said. "It will take the bill off into a ditch." From what we know about the Senate's version, that's exactly where it belongs! (Family Research Council)
Update: LOST Treaty
"Long Time, No Sea"
Rule number one of federal lawmaking: When a Senator says his colleagues would be "more comfortable" voting on a bill after an election, it spells trouble. And in the case of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), that trouble is spelled LOST, or Law of the Sea Treaty. It's been 30 years since President Reagan first sank the idea of a maritime bureaucracy, but that hasn't stopped big government advocates from dredging up the policy every few years and selling it to Congress as buried treasure. Yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sen. Kerry, and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta took turns pitching the 1982 treaty in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as a way to "bring order" to the world's oceans. The way they see it, LOST would help define the boundaries in international waters and create a "more peaceful" sea environment.
It sounds innocent enough, but behind those benign talking points is a dangerous agenda that would undermine U.S. security--and siphon away millions of dollars in the process. Lost in LOST's hearing were the facts. For one, proponents neglected to mention that the treaty would force America to release its hold on miles and miles of natural resources. Instead of profiting from the discoveries of oil or gas, U.S. companies would have to transfer those royalties to an international bureaucracy in charge of "redistributing" that wealth (sound familiar?) to needy nations. According to the U.S. Continental Shelf Task Force, those resources "may be worth billions, if not trillions, of dollars."
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), one of two dozen Republicans that oppose LOST, was emphatic about the threat. "[This] would be the first time in history that an international organization would possess a taxing authority, and it would amount to billions of American dollars being transferred out of the U.S. Treasury," he wrote. What's more, this "International Seabed Authority," or ISA, would have the power to haul the U.S. before global tribunals for perceived violations, order countries to share cutting-edge technologies, and bar the Navy from using global waterways for defense or military purposes. And if member nations decide to change the treaty? "There is no guarantee that the treaty will remain in the form that it is at the time of ratification. Under its terms, its content can later be changed by an amendment process that does not require the approval of the U.S. government."
Of course, most people recognized the bill was bad when Sen. Kerry announced during yesterday's hearing that he "would like to see this treaty stay out of the hurly-burly of presidential politics." Translation? I plan on pushing this bill after November 6 so that Senators can't be held accountable for passing such a controversial bill. Obviously, Sen Kerry and friends are hoping to follow the pattern of last year's START treaty, which is to wait until the lame-duck session to force unpopular and potentially unconstitutional policies on the American people. (Family Research Council)
- Because this is a treaty, only the Senate -- not the House -- will have the authority to defeat it. Come against the statement by Senator Kerry in prayer, and ask our Lord to move upon the hearts of Senate leadership to call for a vote on LOST before the election. Next, PRAY IT DOWN! In His Name, amen!
- "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways." (Job 22:28)
Maryland Marriage Referendum
Maryland Governor O'Malley made passage of a bill to legalize same-sex marriage his first priority this past January. With promises and arm-twisting, he persuaded members of both houses of the Maryland Assembly to pass the measure narrowly.
Yesterday, Pastor Derek McCoy, President of the Maryland Family Alliance and Director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance, delivered more than 122,000 petitions to the Secretary of State's office - more than double the signatures needed (55,736) to put a same-sex "marriage" repeal question on the November ballot. The Alliance's goal is to turn in 150,000 signatures by the June 30th deadline.
Pro-SSM activists have big money and backing from the state's political machine. Moreover, Maryland's Attorney General Doug Gansler, has vowed to overturn the ballot should the people vote to overturn the new law in November. Gansler plans legal action before hand-picked judges appointed by O'Malley.
- Praise God for His favor at this stage of the fight. May He now provide the necessary finances to get out the message for marriage and to counter the campaign planned by homosexual activists. May Marylanders stand for marriage!
- "But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place." (2 Cor. 2:14)
Iran Targets American Diplomats; Others
U.S. officials among the targets of Iran-linked assassination plots
In November, the tide of daily cable traffic to the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan brought a chilling message for Ambassador Matthew Bryza, then the top U.S. diplomat to the small Central Asian country. A plot to kill Americans had been uncovered, the message read, and embassy officials were on the target list. The details, scant at first, became clearer as intelligence agencies from both countries stepped up their probe. The plot had two strands, U.S. officials learned, one involving snipers with silencer-equipped rifles and the other a car bomb, apparently intended to kill embassy employees or members of their families. Both strands could be traced back to the same place, the officials were told: Azerbaijan's southern neighbor, Iran.
The threat, many details of which were never made public, appeared to recede after Azerbaijani authorities rounded up nearly two dozen people in waves of arrests early this year. Precisely who ordered the hits, and why, was never conclusively determined. But U.S. and Middle Eastern officials now see the attempts as part of a broader campaign by Iran-linked operatives to kill foreign diplomats in at least seven countries over a span of 13 months. The targets have included two Saudi officials, a half-dozen Israelis and - in the Azerbaijan case - several Americans, the officials say. In recent weeks, investigators working in four countries have amassed new evidence tying the disparate assassination attempts to one another and linking all of them to either Iran-backed Hezbollah militants or operatives based inside Iran, according to U.S. and Middle Eastern security officials. [Reported by The Investigative Project on Terrorism]
- Offer praise that these plots, hatched by Iran, have been exposed and the perpetrators found. Continue to pray for "all in authority" on the diplomatic outposts worldwide. May they faithfully represent our nation; and may each one come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. In His Name, amen.
- ". . . (the Lord) desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:4)
Update: Laser Attacks on Pilots
Laser attacks on pilots are on the rise, records show
Laser pointer aimed at planes headed for Lambert - St. Louis
International Airport
OTTAWA - Pilots flying in Canadian skies are getting hit with blinding lasers more than ever, sparking calls for a crackdown on a problem that experts say threatens passenger safety. Nationwide, reports of aircraft getting hit with lasers was up dramatically in 2011 to 229, up from 183 in 2010 - a 25 per cent jump. And the trend shows little sign of abating. A Transport Canada database records more than 100 reports of laser incidents so far this year. "This is a nationwide flight safety concern," said Capt. Barry Wiszniowski, chairman of the flight safety division for the Air Canada Pilots Association. Many of those are happening in the skies over Toronto as planes flying into Pearson and other area airports are getting hit with alarmingly frequency - 36 times so far this year. . . But in the United States - where there were a record 3,592 incidents in 2011 - federal officials have launched a crackdown on offenders who deliberately aim lasers at aircraft. Laser pointer aimed at planes headed for Lambert - St. Louis International Airport
St. Louis (KSDK) - The Joint Terrorism Task Force is searching for the people who pointed lasers at aircraft flying above St. Louis. Authorities say it happened at least three times over the Memorial Day weekend. The lasers may be a small pinpoint of light when pointed on the ground, but once they hit the glass of a cockpit they can become an explosion of light and temporarily blind the pilot. The FAA says the most recent incident was Monday and involved a Delta Airlines flight headed for Lambert. The plane was about 12 miles out and around 5,000 feet in the air when the cockpit was hit by green laser. (Read more.)

Native American Leader, Dr. Negiel Bigpond,
Joins the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem
October 7, 2012
Dr. Negiel Bigpond, Apostolic Covering for many First Nations Churches in Canada and the United States, officially endorses the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem, founded by Dr. Jack Hayford and Dr. Robert Stearns of Eagles' Wings.
Dr. Bigpond remarked: "Israel and Native Americans are both tribal people who understand and know how to keep covenant. We are followers of The Word of GOD and understand the covenant God has with His chosen people, Israel, and we are now partakers of the same Blessing. When we pray and Bless Israel, we Bless God. To us, the international Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem is an opportunity to honor God as we pray for and honor His chosen people."
Dr. Bigpond has been in ministry more than thirty years, evangelizing in over 143 native reservations and currently serving as Apostle of Morning Star Church of All Nations.
First Nations people generally sense a deep kinship with Israel. A portion of the resolution called "A Declaration by the First Nations of America" states:
- As with Israel, the First Nations are called to be a blessing.
- As with Israel, the First nations have been persecuted.
- As with Israel, the First Nations are called to be strong in the face of adversity.
- As with Israel, the First nations were once exiled and now returned home.
Dr. Bigpond not only joins 1300 other Christian Endorsers who represent all different cultures, and denominations - like Paul Cedar, Ron Luce, Kay Arthur, Jane Hansen, T. D. Jakes, & Ravi Zacharias - but he joins with another endorsing First Nations leader, Dr. Richard Twiss
-Founder & Director of Wiconi International. Their united call is for all believers to fulfill The Lord's mandate in Psalm 122:6, to pray for God's peace, blessing, and love to Jews, Arabs and Christians alike in God's Holy City - Jerusalem.
The annual Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem - the first Sunday of every October - is one of the largest Israel-focused prayer events in history, with churches participating last year from over 175 nations, including those "underground" in seven Muslim nations. An offering is also collected to help all in need - both Jew and Arab. Churches can download FREE Resources and register to participate on October 7th at www.daytopray.com
The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem
The Bible clearly calls all believers to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6, Isaiah 62:6). Over 1,200 of the most respected global Christian leaders are calling for the Church to pray for Jerusalem the first Sunday of every October. All Christians have a biblical mandate and responsibility to pray for the city over which Jesus wept, the city to which He will soon return. The current crisis over Jerusalem has global ramifications and impact, and will only be fully resolved by God working through the prayers of His people.

The Good News Corner

Fall Afresh

Awaken my soul, come awake
To hunger, to seek, to thirst
Awaken first love, come awake
And do as You did at first
Spirit of the Living God come fall afresh on me
Come wake me from my sleep
Blow through the caverns of my soul
Pour in me to overflow,
to overflow
Spirit come and fill this place
Let Your glory now invade
Spirit come and fill this place
Let Your glory now invade
