The Daily Brief

1. Sarkozy: EU needs united position on Palestinian statehood - Ha'aretz

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Wednesday he wanted to see a united European Union voice on the issue of Palestinian statehood at next month's United Nations General Assembly and urged the United States to do more for peace.

- Father, we pray for and expect Your intervention to protect the nation of Israel from UN division. We pray that there would be no unity in that rises against Your people.

- "They shall inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified." (Isaiah 60:21b,c)

2. EU Expected to Lift Libya Oil Sanctions - VOA News

European Union diplomats say sanctions against several Libyan ports, oil companies and more than a dozen other entities could be lifted as soon as Friday.

- Lord, this act is premature. We pray for wisdom to come to EU leaders so that the oil ports do not fall into the hands of the wrong people. We pray for a stable, pro-western government for Libya, as well as the capture of Gaddafi swiftly.

- "Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you." (2 Chronicles 19:2b)

3. Katia becomes hurricane; new storm may be forming in Gulf of Mexico - CNN

Less than a week after Irene ravaged much of the East Coast, Hurricane Katia roared to life in the central Atlantic with winds of 75 mph, forecasters said.

- Lord, we plead for Your mercy over America and all the islands of the gulf region, that this storm will dissipate before it reaches land.

- "For You have been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in distress, a refuge from the storm" (Isaiah 25:4a,b)

4. East Coast feels Irene's aftereffects - USA Today

Irene, the hurricane that ravaged the East Coast over the weekend, hurled one more insult at New Jersey on Wednesday, pushing the raging Passaic River over its banks and flooding Paterson, the state's third-largest city.

- Father, we ask for Your Holy Spirit to move over the regions who have been hard hit by flooding, to bring restoration, comfort, hope, and help.

- "Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?" (Psalm 85:6)

5. Obama Accepts Request to Reschedule Jobs Speech Amid Conflict With GOP Debate - Fox News

Obama has accepted House Speaker John Boehner's request to postpone his planned jobs speech by a day, after the White House announced Wednesday that it was scheduling the address for the same night as a GOP 2012 primary debate in California.

- Lord, thank You this speech has been moved so that there will be no conflict with the debate. We ask that You intervene to bring truth and wisdom to our President and Congressional leadership, so that instead of political speech making, we will have movement toward a real solution for jobs in America.

- "O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!" (Psalm 71:12)

6. S&P Rates Subprime Mortgages Higher Than U.S. - Bloomberg

Standard & Poor's is giving a higher rating to securities backed by subprime home loans, the same type of investments that led to the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, than it assigns the U.S. government.

- Father, we pray that if there be any wrong-doing or manipulation being done by S&P, that You would ferret it out and stop it. We ask also for You to move across our financial markets to bring wisdom and truth.

- "Do not forget the life of Your poor forever. Have respect to the covenant; for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty." (Psalm 74:19b-20)

7. U.C. Berkeley Professor Confirmed to California Supreme Court - AP

A U.C. Berkeley law professor whose nomination to a federal appeals court was blocked by Senate Republicans was unanimously approved Wednesday for the California Supreme Court.

The state's three-member Commission on Judicial Appointments unanimously voted for Goodwin Liu's nomination, and Gov. Jerry Brown was scheduled to swear Liu in on Thursday.

- Lord, it is a sad commentary on America that a judge so liberal that Congress blocked his nomination is unanimously appointed to the California Supreme Court. We pray for Your mercy over California, and a move of Your Spirit to shake their liberal views and convict them of sin. We ask that Your Spirit touch the heart of Mr. Liu to change him forever.

- "And he looks at men and says, 'I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it did not profit me.' He will redeem his soul from going down to the Pit, and his life shall see the light." (Job 33:17-28)

3. Egypt won't amend Camp David Accords without Israel - Jerusalem Post

Any amendment to the Camp David Accords, the agreement that ended decades-long hostilities between Egypt and Israel, must be made in coordination with the governments in Cairo and Jerusalem, Egyptian newspaper al-Youm as-Sabaa reported Tuesday.

The Daily Jot

The Islamic Challenge in Ghana Part 1

He is a Christian pastor in a small rural village. Its not an easy life. Ministering is difficult in of itself, but it is even more so when there are little resources, your flock is in need of food, clothing and shelter. Just traveling around to see them, pray with them, encourage them is a labor of love--walking miles, taking taxis and tro tros, braving the elements. We as Americans have little concept of just how difficult it is to travel even short distances, let alone eat and communicate. What would we do without our cell phones, computers, cars and support systems? Imagine not having the resources to even go to the store.

Also imagine that there is a new man who moved into the village. He has money, he is a businessman, he just might be the answer to a lot of the problems faced by this pastor. The man seeks out the pastor. Talks to him about his ministry. Encourages him, befriends him. Before long, the businessman gives the pastor a car. This is a great relief as he can now minister to his flock so much more effectively. A while later, the businessman offers the pastor a place to live, low rent, very nice. The pastor is then offered a part time job that allows him to provide better for his family and still minister. He believes he has been blessed.

Then one day the businessman calls in the pastor to speak to him. He tells the pastor that he wants him to become a Muslim. The pastor says that he is Christian and leads a flock. But thanks the businessman for caring about him. The businessman says, "I do not think you understand. I have provided you a car. I have provided you a house. I have provided for you a job. Now I require of you that you convert to Islam." The pastor pauses a moment to reflect. Then he replies, "I very much appreciate all you have done for me. You are asking me to deny my savior Jesus Christ. This is something I cannot do, will not do."

The businessman collected the car. Turned pastor and his family out in the street. And fired the pastor from his job. But this is the way it goes in West Africa. In generally settled areas, the Muslims try to buy their way into the Christian community and seek to make conversions out of the tremendous needs. The money comes from drugs, prostitution, sometimes from the oil rich nations. It can be used to meet every need except that of the soul. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Only the Lord is our provider and our source of everlasting life.

40 Days of Prayer for Israel

August 30 - October 10

Prayer Points (Part Three)

The sponsor of this call to fasting and prayer for Israel, The Elijah Prayer Army, has posted 15 specific prayer targets during this fast, with Scriptures included.

We will post several of these prayer points each day until we have reached the end of this list.

You may also wish to view the entire list of prayer targets by going here.

Pray that God will send confusion into the enemy's camp so that the terrorists begin to fight each other!

"As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another." (2 Chr 20:22-23)

Pray that God will scatter the terrorists!

"Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, 'Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.' Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name." (Ps 83:11-16)

Pray that God will raise up strong prophetic voices to proclaim the truth and warn the leaders of the earth to not divide God's land!

"Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. . . Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him." (Ps 2:1-2,10-12)

Pray for a hedge of protection around Jerusalem! "'And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be its glory within.'" (Zech 2:5)
Pray for strength and wisdom to the leaders in Israel, especially Prime Minister Netanyahu!

"I will restore your judges as in days of old, your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called the City of Righteousness, the Faithful City." (Isa 1:26)

The Good News Corner:

Florida Gov. Scott Signs Ultrasound Mandate, Three More Pro-Life Bills

(Tallahassee, FL)-Florida's governor has signed into law four pro-life bills, including an ultrasound mandate and a ban on abortion coverage in the insurance exchanges mandated by President Obama's health care law. A July 30 ceremonial signing by Rick Scott took place at the governor's mansion nearly a month after the legislation went into effect, and provided an opportunity for pro-life activists and Florida lawmakers to express their support.

Scott, the self-proclaimed "jobs governor" of Florida and a former health care executive, had been denounced during his gubernatorial campaign as " extremely anti-choice" by Emily's List, a political action committee dedicated to putting pro-abortion women into office. Emily's List had criticized Scott for his opposition to Roe v. Wade and his support for a bill vetoed last June by former Governor Charlie Crist that would have required abortion-bound women to undergo an ultrasound, and be shown the image upon request.

At the July 30 ceremony, Scott signed the ultrasound mandate as well as a bill stripping abortion coverage from health exchanges created through Obamacare. A third bill directing funds from Choose Life license plates to Choose Life, Inc., which counsels against abortion, and a fourth measure toughens parental notice requirements for minors seeking abortions. As previously reported by LifeSiteNews (LSN), in March, Scott promised to approach a slew of abortion bills as a "pro-life governor."
