The Daily Brief - Friday, June 4, 2010

"Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. Cease from anger and forsake wrath . . . those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land." (Psalm 37: 7-9)

The Daily Brief

1. NYC Begins Gay Wedding Ceremonies - NewsMax

New York City officials began offering wedding-like ceremonies for same-sex couples on Thursday, drawing as much criticism as praise from gay rights advocates who want nothing short of full marriage rights.

• We pray for those who seek rights only given in a covenant sanctified through you, Lord. We ask a gracious petition on their behalf, that they seek your truth and revelation, to realize this can only come through a man and woman relationship, and never between same sex relationships.

"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." ( Ephesians 5:31)

2. Comedy Central's 'J.C.' is 'Designed to Be Offensive to Christians,' Religious Conservative Coalition - CNS News

A newly formed group of conservative and religious leaders announced Thursday that it is going to ask advertisers to refrain from spending any money on Comedy Central's proposed show "J.C." -- an animated program that the network has said would depict Jesus Christ as wanting to "escape the shadow of his famous father and live life in New York City as a regular guy."

• We pray for those that persecute you, Oh Lord. We thank you for raising up leaders that are approaching the advertisers not to fund such mocking of God's word.

The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. (Proverbs 15:14)

3. BP and Feds Withheld Videos Showing Massive Scope of Oil Spill - ABC News

New videos show more clearly than ever how BP, with little resistance from the Coast Guard or other federal agencies, kept the public in the dark about just how bad things were beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

• Pray for truth to be revealed concerning all these issues, and those accountable to accept their responsibility with repentance, if wrongdoing is involved. Thank you Lord for continuing to protect the innocent and reveal that which is just and true.

The waters saw you, O God; The waters saw You, they were afraid; The depths also trembled. (Psalms 77:16)

4. States see first surplus in years - USA Today

States and local governments took in more money than they spent in the first three months of this year -- their first surplus since 2007 -- in a sign that the worst of the budget crisis may be over.

• Let us search our ways, and seek Your plans to prosper us. So, let us continue to meditate your word and be doers of the word: for then we shall make our way prosperous. Thank You for meeting all our needs.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

5. U.S. 'secret war' expands globally as Special Operations forces take larger role - Washington Post

Beneath its commitment to soft-spoken diplomacy and beyond the combat zones of Afghanistan and Iraq, the Obama administration has significantly expanded a largely secret U.S. war against al-Qaeda and other radical groups, according to senior military and administration officials.

• We pray Lord, for protection over our nation. We turn to you in repentance, and seek Your face, that our land may be healed.

The Lord also will be our refuge for the oppressed. A refuge in the times of trouble. (Psalms 9:9)

6. Al-Qaida Orders Abduction of Christians, Saudi Royals - Jerusalem Post

A leader of al-Qaida ordered the group's "soldiers" to abduct Saudi princes, ministers and Christian residents of Saudi Arabia, according to a recording posted on an Islamist website.

• Intercede for the protection of those being targeted for abduction. Lord, let it be like Esther and her people who found favor with the King, and the entire nation was saved from the strong hand, because darkness was exposed.

"For how can I endure to see the evil that will come to my people?? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my countrymen? " (Esther 8:6)

7. Report says Burma is taking steps toward nuclear weapons program - Washington Post

Burma has begun secretly acquiring key components for a nuclear weapons program, including specialized equipment used to make uranium metal for nuclear bombs, according to a report that cites documents and photos from a Burmese army officer who recently fled the country.

• We thank you, that plans thought to be hidden, have been brought to the light, for all the world to know. We pray for the leaders to seek you for direction, and make decisions reflecting your desires concerning this matter.

"Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)

8. At Least 1 Million in Evangelical March in Brazil - ABC News

At least 1 million evangelical Christians rallied in Sao Paulo on Thursday for the annual "March for Jesus," an event that unites the faithful from hundreds of Protestant churches in the world's largest Roman Catholic country.

• Thank you for this rally, Lord. We pray that Christians will continue to walk for the integrity of your Word and be your light in a dark world. You are our refuge and stronghold in times of trouble. Let us continue to deposit your love throughout the world.

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading though us, we implore you on Christ's behalf be reconciled to God. ( 2 Corinthians 5:20)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:
"Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!" He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them." (Psalm 2:1-4)

2. Merkel: Mideast Quartet should help flotilla probe - Ynet News

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for representatives of the Mideast Quartet to be included in an investigation of Israel's raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

3. Turkish protestors: We're all soldiers of Hamas - Ynet News

Tens of thousands gathered in Istanbul Thursday for prayers for activists killed in Israel's raid on aid ships bound for Gaza, condemning the Jewish state and shouting support for Hamas.

4. Israel Navy: Activists tried taking 3 troops hostage during Gaza flotilla raid - Ha'aretz

According to preliminary navy investigation, some passengers on the Mavi Marmara boat dragged three unconscious commandos into one of the passenger halls below deck.

The Daily Jot (Oil Spill)

Deception at the White House--Priceless?

The New York Times reports that the man who occupies the Oval Office "logged three golf games in four days, appearing at one island course after another. He spent five hours on Monday afternoon playing 18 holes at the Farm Neck Golf Club here, two and a half hours on Tuesday playing nine holes at Mink Meadows Golf Club in Vineyard Haven, and several hours playing Thursday afternoon at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown." By Saturday, he had played two hours of basketball at the University of Chicago Lab School. The Washington Times reported in April that he had played golf some 32 times since taking office--his immediate predecessor played golf only 24 times in eight years.

So who is fooling who here? All the grandstanding quotes in the news media about doing everything he can to stop the oil leak, to mend the economy, and on and on. Here's one from May 29: "As I said yesterday, every day that this leak continues is an assault on the people of the Gulf Coast region, their livelihoods, and the natural bounty that belongs to all of us. It is as enraging as it is heartbreaking, and we will not relent until this leak is contained, until the waters and shores are cleaned up, and until the people unjustly victimized by this manmade disaster are made whole."

This after he had spent about 14 hours of the previous week playing golf and basketball. Can anyone say NERO?

And now the new twist--investigations. Certainly, it is not unreasonable to investigate what happened with the BP oil rig. But Obama announced Tuesday that he was initiating a criminal investigation into BP. He said, "If our laws were broken, leading to this death and destruction, my solemn pledge is that we will bring those responsible to justice on behalf of the victims of this catastrophe." Why not try to fix the leak first? And what about him calling for an investigation of Israel for protecting its sovereignty against terrorist blockade runners? No investigation, however, of the White House offering Congressman Joe Sestak a job to drop out of the Senate primary against Arlen Specter--a possible impeachable felony.

The very fact that this administration didn't acknowledge the 11 deaths resulting from the oil rig explosion on April 21 until June 1 is very telltale. Amid playing golf and basketball and having state dinners where leaders are allowed to insult Americans while the president agrees is all very time consuming--Apparently at the expense of what the people voted this man into office to do. No, check that. He is doing exactly what he told us he would do--remake America. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Here we have a person who is deceiving the American people everyday. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you."

P.M. Netanyahu Speaks Out (From: Intercessors for Israel)

The Honorable Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech two days ago that was absolutely uncompromising and called out the international hypocrisy concerning the flotilla incident. Yesterday, it was reported that he was thinking about "loosening" the blockade and giving inspection over to international soldiers. We must lift up the hands of this man who is under huge pressure to lift the blockade of Gaza. If it is lifted or even "loosened" it could open up a way for weapons to flow freely into Hamas' hands.

We prayed:

o Thank you Lord that Netanyahu was able to clearly state what his priorities are and we pray that he would be able to stand by what he said.
o Let him see the long-term consequences of any compromise concerning the blockade.
o Help Netanyahu to discern between ideas that seem smart and wisdom that is right.
o Lord, draw the PM into your Word so that He can see how you keep your promises.
o Give him the words he needs in order to proclaim the truth.
o And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in Your judgments. Psalm 119:43
o Give Netanyahu the grace to rightly respond to the Obama Administration in the States.
o Lord, give our PM the heart we see in Joshua and Caleb when they gave the good report which was contrary to those wanted to give up because the job was too big.
o Let all those who around him speak the truth of Your promises to Israel.
o Return our judges as of old who will be founded in truth and not "political correctness"
o Let Netanyahu use his vast knowledge of history to make right decisions.

2nd Flotilla Arrives Tomorrow (From: Intercessors for Israel)

There is a 2nd flotilla that is preparing to sail. It should be here in this coming week with the same goals as this past flotilla. The government and the military need to know how this 2nd attempt to illegally break the blockade should be handled. From everything we see from this past attempt, this is a lose-lose situation for Israel.

We prayed:

o Give our leaders the ability to guard over this nation.
o Provide wisdom to those who will make decisions about how this 2nd flotilla will be handled.
o Help us stand against the intended purpose of these flotillas which is to weaken Israel internationally.
o Let us not be frozen from action by seeing this situation as lose-lose.
o May our soldiers be emboldened to do what needs to be done and don't allow them to believe the lie that what they are doing is shameful.
o Give Israel good intelligence of who and what is on this next flotilla.
o Give the Navy the strategy to stop this flotilla without loss of life.
o Lord, lift up your hand and stop this flotilla from coming (by the weather or malfunction).
o Give our soldiers discerning eyes to see what is there.
o May our leaders have the words they need to describe this new war we are in.

Prayers for Media (From: Intercessors for Israel)

This week's Torah portion contains the entrance of the 12 spies into the Land and their report back to the children of Israel. This section is about the truth of the Land reported by Joshua and Caleb versus the "slander" spoken against the Land by the other 10 spies. We must pray that the Truth of the situation and the Lord's Word would overrule the slander being brought forth in the media. These false reports are also engendering a new hatred towards the Jews and Israel around the world.

We prayed:

o The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Proverbs 12:19
o Lord, expose the lies that are being spoken in the media.
o Show and bring forward the great extent to which the Israeli soldiers took in order to protect lives.
o Bring forth the truth and let it stand!
o Cause the media to bring forth truth despite their desire not to.
o Expose the agendas driven by the media's ownership.
o Raise up voices for truth around the world and let them be heard.
o Silence those Israeli voices who would speak slander from within this nation.
o Let those dealing with PR in Israel not shrink back from speaking truth.
o For Your Name's Sake, protect our Land and strike down the words that rise up against Your Word.
o Help believers and Jewish communities around the world see the lies in the media.
Wake up Your Body to pray with knowledge of the truth

A Call to Prayer (From: Intercessors for Israel)

In this critical time in Israel's history, the Body needs to understand the season we are in. We need to feel the urgency to pray and we need to know how to pray. The Body must wake up and answer the call of God to stand for Israel.

We prayed:

o Wake the Body up to recognize the role you have given us in regards to Israel.
o Help the Body discern the truth of these times and speak into it.
o Our response to the truth can bring life if we respond positively and loss if we respond negatively - help the Body see truth clearly so that life can come forth.
o Convict the leaders of the Body of Messiah to speak out boldly on behalf of Israel.
o Remove from the us a spirit of hyper-focus on appeasing through political correctness - put in us a passion to speak forth Your WHOLE Word.
o Protect us from the onslaught of lies coming concerning Israel.
o We cry our for Your Mercy to be upon us.

The Good News Corner

THE COURAGE OF ONE YOUTH:
A VOICE ON BEHALF OF ISRAEL

Yesterday, a mob of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in Los Angeles, in front of the Consulate of Israel. They were all united in their hatred of Israel . . . except for one, brave young man.

To view the video of this act of courage, on the part of a 15-year-old teen who stood on the streets of Los Angeles, waving the flag of Israel, go here.

We praise God for the courage of this youth, and we pray that many, many more voices will be raised in defense of TRUTH on behalf of Israel in this hour. AMEN!
