"For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee." (Isaiah 60:2)
The Daily Brief
1. North Korea: Two U.S. journalists pardoned - AP
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has issued a "special pardon" to two American journalists convicted of sneaking into the country illegally, and he ordered them released during a visit by former US President Bill Clinton, North Korean media reported early Wednesday. The release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee was a sign of North Korea's "humanitarian and peace-loving policy," the Korean Central News Agency reported.
- Praise the LORD for this answer to prayer!
- "Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life." (Isaiah 43:4)
2. Russian subs spotted off U.S. coast - UPI
Two Russian attack submarines spotted off the Atlantic coast over the past several days have worried U.S. officials, the U.S. Defense Department says. The New York Times reported one of the two nuclear-powered submarines was 200 miles off the East Coast in international waters Tuesday. A senior Defense Department official said the other submarine had headed to a Cuban port. "I don't think [the Russians] have put two first-line nuclear subs off the U.S. coast in about 15 years," Norman Polmar, a submarine warfare expert and naval historian, told the Times.
- Please pray for the wisdom of God for the Defense Department. Ask that threats to the American people be put to rest in short order. Intercede for the protection, safety, and security for all of our coasts and borders, that the heavens would respond to the prayers and petitions of the saints on behalf of each and every city and town in the USA.
- "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)
3. Secret Service Secrets: Obama Threats Up 400 Percent - Newsmax
A new book by Newsmax Chief Washington Correspondent Ronald Kessler features startling revelations about current and former U.S. presidents, including Barack Obama. "In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes With Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect," released Tuesday, discloses that threats against the president have increased dramatically - by a staggering 400 percent since Obama entered the White House.
- Pray for protection for the life of Barack Hussein Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters.
- "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (I Tim. 2:1,2)
4. Congressional Health Care Bills Allow Tax-Funded Abortions - CNSNew.com
The health care bills passed by House and Senate committees would allow federal tax dollars to subsidize abortions. On July 31, the House Energy and Commerce Committee removed an amendment from the House version of the bill that would have banned federal funding of abortion through government subsidized insurance programs except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.
- Pray that we, the citizens of this country, who are unwilling to pay for women's abortions with our tax dollars, will not be forced to do so. Ask that, as America returns to a time when abortion was not a government-backed right, not to mention a mandate, that God would release great grace to abolish this and other cruel and inhumane practices. As grace is free, please fall on the mercy of God for those that are without and call on His forgiveness to help us through this arduous battle for life.
- "I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,' And You forgave the iniquity of my sin." (Psalm 32:5)
5. Four of Top 'Clunkers' Model Purchases Are Foreign - Worthy News
Of the top five models sold so far under the U.S. "cash for clunkers" program, aimed at boosting the auto industry, four are made by foreign automakers, according to Transportation Department data. Ford Motor Co.'s Focus was the top seller, followed by Toyota Motor Corp.'s Corolla, Honda Motor Co.'s Civic and Toyota's Prius and Camry, data from the department showed today.
- Ask the Father for justice to clear out so called problems which bring a hindrance to our economic growth here in the United States and for U.S. legislation that would benefit and protect the profit margins of American companies first.
- "For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness." (Matthew 25:29-30a)
6. Expansion of Islamic Saudi Academy in Virginia Approved, Outraging Opponents - AP
A controversial Saudi-funded academy that teaches strict adherence to traditional Islamic law has been given the green light to expand its Virginia campus - a decision by local officials that infuriates opponents who say the school's teachings are anti-American.
- Intercede for an appeal on the outcome of this vote as people graduating from this school, on U.S. soil, have been indicted for crimes of terror. Ask the Lord for plan B and continue to petition the heavens fiercely for more exposure and disclosure concerning the kind of teaching and training done at this location and others around our nation and the world.
- "Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus." (II Timothy 1:13)
The Middle East in Focus
This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mont Zion in the far north, the city of the great King. (Psalm 48:2)
1. Abbas at Fatah congress: Jerusalem promised to us - Ynet News
Some 2,000 delegates gather in Bethlehem for festive political conference 'in the name of our capital Jerusalem,' on backdrop of battle over Palestinian national movement's future. 'Although we have chosen peace, we maintain the right to launch an armed resistance,' Palestinian president says.
2. Peres: No peace means nuclear Mideast - Ynet News
President Shimon Peres warned Tuesday that if Israel dallied on the peace front, the Middle East would almost certainly reach "a point of no return" en route to turning into a region teeming with nuclear weapons.
3. Barak: US to soon unveil regional peace plan - Ynet News
US President Barack Obama will soon unveil his plan for regional peace in the Middle East, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday.
4. Hezbollah Boasts It Has 40,000 Rockets Ready to Fire at Israel - Fox News
Three years after Israel fought a bloody war in Lebanon against Hezbollah, there are growing fears that hostilities could erupt again this time with the militant group better armed than ever.
5. Israelis quietly question U.S. resolve against Iran - Reuters
Israel is encouraged by recent U.S. vows to curb Iran's nuclear program, but still questions whether the Obama administration is willing to make good on the pledge "no matter what," an Israeli official said on Tuesday.
The Jihadist Fifth Column
The existence of "fifth columns"- clandestine and subversive jihadists working in every Western nation - is becoming clearer by the day. Yesterday, police from around Australia were secretly moved to Melbourne to launch raids on homes in seven suburbs. Four men were arrested for plotting an attack against Australian military installations. All the men had Somali and Lebanese backgrounds. The men were apparently plotting to force their way onto bases to commit suicide attacks. Several of the men have traveled to Somalia for weapons training and were sponsored by the terrorist movement al-Shabaab. This is the same terrorist group that is recruiting jihadists in Minneapolis to fight in Africa.
We have learned of terror plots being foiled in our country and other nations around the world. But how many plots have we not uncovered? The threat of Islamofascist terrorism is real, yet our government often sides with political correctness rather than doing what's necessary to protect the American people.
For example, just outside our nation's capital in northern Virginia, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted 6-to-4 in favor of a planned expansion of the Saudi-funded Islamic Saudi Academy. This is the same school whose valedictorian was arrested for plotting to assassinate President George W. Bush. Many observers believe its curriculum promotes anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism. Until our government is ready to take the necessary steps to combat Islamofascism here, innocent Americans will continue to be in harm's way. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009)
Piling On Israel
. . . in the last six months, Israel has had to deal with more than its usual bashers. Now it has to worry about Washington, D.C., too. Our State Department joined the chorus of anti-Israel attacks yesterday, because the Israeli government complied with an order from the Israeli Supreme Court and removed dozens of Palestinian "squatters" from property that does not belong to them. It's a sad day when the United States finds itself aligned with dictators and thugs. But whether it's Central America or the Middle East, President Obama and Hillary Clinton remain committed to a foreign policy that kowtows to our enemies, while dictating to our friends. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009; excerpt)
Obama Gets a Dose of His Own Medicine
Obama had hoped to celebrate his 48th birthday with a trillion dollar gift from Congress: a final bill authorizing his administration to seize control of the American health care system. Instead, his legislation is dead-locked, the public is outraged, and his team seems to be trying to prevent their liberal foot soldiers from retreating on the biggest domestic policy package in recent memory. Public resistance is a foreign idea for this man, who has managed to coast along for five months without focused opposition. Even his staff seems flustered, unsure how to respond in an increasingly hostile environment.
So far, no one seems to accept the cold, hard reality that Obama's health care plan is wildly unpopular. Instead, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs blames the national protest on an old standby: the vast right-wing conspiracy. He said K Street lobbyists were organizing the raucous town halls, where "angry mobs" are disrupting the "honest" conversations that Democrats are trying to have in their home districts. It's "manufactured anger," he told reporters yesterday. The Democratic National Committee echoed the spin, saying, "The Republicans and their allied groups . . . are inciting . . a small number of rabid right-wing extremists . . . "
When the Left protested the war with graffiti on the Capitol steps, it was "civic engagement." When conservatives ask questions about what's included in health care "reform," it's orchestrated thuggery. As Michelle Malkin points out, "The DNC's definition of 'thoughtful': Sitting silent about the lack of transparency, deliberation, truth in numbers . . . on the ObamaCare plan. The DNC definition of incitement: Asking out loud, 'How can you manage health care when you can't manage Cash for Clunkers?'"
Isn't inciting the heartland exactly what then-candidate Obama prescribed last September? Blogger Ed Morrissey pulled a quote from his campaign that demonstrates just how disingenuous the administration is. To make a case for his candidacy, Obama told supporters to get aggressive. "I want you to argue with them and get in their face." Obviously the President's rules of engagement--like his theories on tolerance and speech--are a one-way street, open only to liberals. White House Boldly Lies To Cover Up Socialist Coup
The Drudge Report has posted an uncut, continuous statement from the man who occupies the Oval Office about how he intends to do away with private healthcare insurance. At an AFL-CIO meeting June 30, 2003, OOO said, "I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that's what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that's what I'd like to see."
This statement was so revealing to the White House plan to dismantle the private insurance industry that the White House immediately issued a statement denying that Obama ever said it. In fact, White House Healthcare Reform Communications Director Linda Douglas, former ABC News Correspondent, said, "They are taking sentences and phrases out of context and cobbling them together to leave a false impression. There are people out there with a computer and a lot of free time and they take a phrase here and there, they simply cherry pick and put it together and make it sound like he's saying something that he really didn't say."
With respect to the particular Drudge Report sound bite, there is nothing cobbled together, nothing taken out of context. Linda Douglas and the White House have been caught in a bold faced lie. Obama not only said that he wanted universal healthcare in 2003, he also said on March 24, 2007 at the Service Employees International Union Health Care Forum, "My commitment is to make sure that we've got universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as President." He also said that he didn't think employer health coverage could be eliminated immediately because there would need to be a transition period.
Why would the White House institute a propaganda campaign that lies about what Obama said? Could it be that they think Americans might just be smart enough to understand that Universal Health Care is the gateway to socialism in the United States? Could it be that if American's were savvy enough to recognize that the end game of "remaking America" was a socialist democratic government, they would revolt immediately? Could it be that America currently faces a coup de tat of its heritage and destiny? David asked in Psalm 93:16, "Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?" Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, "with God all things are possible." With God on our side, it is time to rise up for America.

REPORTER'S NOTE: The Bible is clear on the value and importance of the fellowship of the saints. Meeting regularly is invaluable in numerous ways; it pleases the Lord, edifies and challenges us, forces us to develop relationship, and keeps us accountable to Him and each other. Here in America, the worship of God is central to fellowship. That in itself-the setting apart of one day a week to focus on the Lord-is sufficient, of course. But kudo's to this church for "walking the walk" by reaching out to their community. -Teresa Neumann, Breaking Christian News.
The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports that members of New Hope Church spent a recent Sunday-dressed in T-shirts reading "Be the church"-helping school staff at Lubbock-Cooper North Elementary School do the hard work of preparing for opening day.
The church team reportedly painted four classrooms and redistributed an entire gymnasium worth of desks, filing cabinets, computers, chairs and tables that once filled portable trailers into the school's new wing.
The school principal, Rita McDaniel, was quoted as saying she almost started crying when she heard of the church's offer. "So many times," she said, "we try to separate church and state and I don't think something like this is what our founding fathers meant. We're helpers to one another . . . they're just trying to walk their faith."
