The Daily Brief
1. Obama's Poll Numbers Continue Plunge, Driven by Health Debate - Newsmax
President Barack Obama's poll numbers are continuing to plunge at an alarming rate, falling from 65 percent after he took office to just 47 percent seven months later. Most troubling for the Democrats, though, is that 65 percent of independent voters now disapprove of Obama's performance.
* Father, we ask that these falling poll numbers will be a "wake-up call" to Mr. Obama; that You will use them to cause him to fall to his knees and seek Your face.
* "What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you put your glory?" (Isaiah 10:3)
2. a) Canada's Health System Informs U.S. Health Care Debate - Fox News
When it comes to the health reform debate, Canada's single payer system is often held up as an example of success by supporters and a warning of the pitfalls by opponents.
b) U.K. Hits Back at U.S. Health Reform 'Untruths' - AP
Britain's health care service says it is sick of what it calls lies from critics of President Obama's health care overhaul. Pilloried by right-wing opponents of Obama's health plan, Britain's National Health Service, known here as the NHS, is fighting back.
* Father, as this debate rages on, we pray that truth would triumph over rhetoric. As horror stories are told for both sides of this debate, we ask that Your wisdom come to our legislators so that the best interests for the healthcare of Americans would result.
* "O send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me;" (Psalm 43:3)
3. a) Federal deficit higher in July, $1.27T this year - AP
The federal deficit climbed higher into record territory in July, hitting $1.27 trillion with two months remaining in the budget year.
b) Fed says economy is leveling out - Reuters
The Federal Reserve said on Wednesday, the U.S. economy was showing signs of leveling out two years after the onset of the deepest financial crisis in decades and it moved to phase out one emergency measure.
* Lord, as these two headlines seem contradictory, we again pray for Your mercy over America's faltering economy. A huge deficit that continues to grow cannot lead to a "level" economy for long, so we pray that You will intervene to restore wisdom to Congress.
* "You pushed me that I might fall, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation." (Psalm 118:13,14)
4. U.S. Vows to Embrace U.N. - Reuters
The Obama administration will work with the United Nations to fight terrorism and other major world challenges, U.S. envoy Susan Rice said on Wednesday, marking a clear shift from the Bush administration's disregard for the world body.
Rice, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, said in a speech at New York University, Washington must lead by example, acknowledge its mistakes, change its policies and strategies when necessary and treat others with respect.
* Father, in the process of "treating other nations with respect", we ask for protection from actions that compromise our Constitution, or our sovereignty and security (or that of our allies).
* "Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble." (Psalm 140:4)
5. Iran Calls for Ban on Striking Nuclear Facilities - Fox News
Iran, whose nuclear facilities are under threat of possible Israeli military strikes, has proposed that a 150-nation conference convening in the fall ban such attacks.
* Lord, we pray that this proposition by Iran will be struck down quickly, that the plan to tie the hands of Israel would be quashed.
* "The Lord also will roar from Zion, and utter His Voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; But the Lord will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel." (Joel 4:16)

3. Israeli paper says strike on Iran could delay bomb - Reuters
A major Israeli newspaper ran a front-page story on Wednesday quoting an unidentified "senior defence official" as saying Israel believed a military strike could disrupt what it says is an Iranian nuclear arms programme.
Is There a Spin Doctor in the House?
Pretty soon there won't be enough PR teams in all of Washington to clean up the mess that House leaders are making with health care reform. Damage control was the agenda du jour yesterday after three Hill Democrats became publicly unglued over the opposition to their plan. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) imploded first, publishing an op-ed in USA Today that called anyone who disagreed with them "un-American."
As if that weren't enough, Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), the longest serving member of the House, compared townhall critics to the Klu Klux Klan. Apparently voters who want to keep costs down and retain their current plans are somehow racists. It's a desperate attack by a desperate majority. Unless the messaging changes, this legislation is on the path to complete and utter self-destruction.
While President Obama seems to be distancing himself from the comments of his "leftenants," he seems to be plotting his own retaliation for critics. Last week, a White House blog asked people to tattle on neighbors who oppose his plans. "Scary chain emails and videos are starting to percolate on the internet . . . Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help . . . [in reporting anything] fishy."
If there's anything "fishy," it's the White House asking people to police their neighbors' political views. Is the White House planning to use this database of dissenters to intimidate their critics? The freedom of speech may be a pesky annoyance, but welcome to representative democracy and the reality of opposing views, Mr. President!
Liberals Literally Buying Support
One of the more frustrating refrains used by liberals looking to denigrate the popular outrage against ObamaCare is to dismiss the protests as "Astroturf" or the "Brooks Brothers Brigade." Both suggest that opposition to socialized healthcare has been artificial or bought and paid for, that it's not a genuine grassroots uprising, but "manufactured anger," as the White House press secretary recently put it. Everybody knows that the Left has a lock on popular opinion, right? After all, Obama won the election, so you angry mobsters just need to sit down and stop talking!
The charge is patently false. In fact, the exact opposite is true. The Left has a history of using "rent-a-mobs" like ACORN's "muscle for money" program. Now there is more proof that liberals are literally having to buy support for ObamaCare. Sunday, the RedState blog posted links to Craig's List ads looking to hire activists to promote ObamaCare for $11-16 per hour. Meanwhile, Rich Lowry of the National Review writes that the drug industry has cut a deal with the Obama White House and will spend $150 million this summer on ads promoting ObamaCare. And we know the labor unions are spending millions on ads and turning out their supporters too.
With Big Labor and Big Business in bed with Big Government, it's amazing this bill has been slowed down at all. But who is looking out for average Americans? You are! You are not being fooled by the double-talk and slick rhetoric. You know Big Government's track record of wasteful spending and inefficient bureaucracy. And you don't want it getting in the way of the healthcare you and your family need. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Aug. 12, 2009)
The Daily Jot
Federal Government At War With US Citizens;
Goal To Institute Socialism Without Firing A Shot
The White House may be directing a deceptive war against Americans by deploying the ancient strategies set forth in a book often read by political strategists. Sun Tzu, the legendary Chinese military genius wrote "The Art of War" some 500 years before Christ depicting the taoist philosophy of war. "The Art of War" is considered by many politicians as the benchmark in engaging warfare both politically and militarily. The book outlines how to execute very specific strategies and tactics to win war against a nation while still keeping it intact. One of the strategies is to deceive the enemy while exhausting its wealth and minimizing its citizens.
Sun Tzu writes of this strategy that appears to be used by the White House against the citizens of the United States: "Warfare is the way of deception...One who is skilled in warfare principles subdues the enemy without doing battle. . .When goods are expensive, the citizens' wealth will be exhausted. When their wealth is exhausted, the peasantry will be afflicted with increased taxes . . . Therefore, a wise general will strive to feed off the enemy." Sun Tzu speaks of using spies and foreknowledge to "conquer the enemy at every move and achieve extraordinary success." He encourages using "the enemy's people to spy on one another."
These strategies are being used against Americans on a daily basis. The man who occupies the Oval Office told a group of Democrats on August 6: "I don't want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don't mind cleaning up after them, but don't do a lot of talking." His White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina advised Senators to be aggressive with their constituents who protest socialized medicine:"If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard." The White House web site encouraged Americans to turn in other Americans at flag@whitehouse.gov who might be spreading misinformation through "casual conversation."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Stenny Hoyer in a USA Today editorial accused those exercising their right to free speech against socialized medicine of being Anti-American. They wrote: "These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views - but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American." People who read the healthcare socialization bill are afraid of the facts, because the fact is that the bill introduces complete socialism in America. But those opposing it are the true patriots. Jesus said in Matthew 24;4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Yes, take heed, your government is at war with you. It is time to fight back.

Another Look at "Repentance"
A commentary by George Whitten, Editor, Worthy News
Sara, repentance is a lifestyle; be ready.
Luke 12:39-40 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
Recently, I've been studying the Jewish roots of many of Yeshua's (Jesus') parables, and I came across an interesting saying from a Jewish Rabbi that I believe has something to teach us.
Rabbi Eliezer said, "Repent one day before your death. His disciples asked him, "Does then one know what day he will die?" "Then all the more reason to repent today", he replied, "lest he die tomorrow, and thus his whole life is spent in repentance."
When I first became a believer, I thought by simply dealing with my outward sins that I could live a state of sinlessness. But it wasn't long before the Lord began revealing and dealing with my inward sins and attitudes. Now, and the longer I walk with Him, I understand more and more the meaning of daily repentance!
If we truly want to be free and walk in His liberty, we cannot avoid this crucial requirement for freedom. Because we cannot receive His forgiveness without it, repentance must be a way of life for us [1 John 1:9].
Sara, staying close to the Lord is His heart's desire for us . . ..but one of the main conditions for it is walking in regular repentance. When we walk in humility and truthfulness about our sin -- we are walking in the light, and the blood of Jesus keeps cleansing us from sin. In that condition we are so much more able to love the Lord and those around us -- with Him, touching one life at a time. So, let's lay down our pride and turn to Him every day . . ..with genuine repentance!
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

College Students Get Marriage Training at University of San Diego
A weekend gathering at the University of San Diego offered training to defend the institution of marriage. It was a pilot student conference called "It Takes a Family to Raise a Village."
The conference is the brainchild of Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, founder and president of the Ruth Institute, a group dedicated to preserving one-man, one-woman marriage. "I feel like if we don't have a good theory of the family," she said, "we're going to lose the free society to people who want massive government."
Jamie Gruber, executive director of the Ruth Institute, said the conference covered marriage from all angles. "We brought in 32 college students from across the country," she said, "to teach them how to better articulate the talking points of marriage." (CitizenLink)
