Update!! Native American Apology
RESOLUTION OF APOLOGY PASSES
THE U.S. SENATE COMMITTEE ON INDIAN AFFAIRS
Senate Committee Apologizes to All Native Americans for Violence and Maltreatment by U.S. Citizens (CNSNews.com; Reported by Mary Murphy, Christian Womens' Outreach)
The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs passed a resolution by voice vote last week apologizing "on behalf of the people of the United States" to all Indian tribes for the mistreatment and violence by American citizens.
Senate Joint Resolution 14, sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), states that its purpose is "to acknowledge a long history of official depredations and ill-conceived policies by the Federal Government regarding Indian Tribes and offer an apology to all Native Peoples on behalf of the United States."
In Section 1A, No. 4 of the resolution states that the apology is on behalf of U.S. citizens for harm they have done to "Native Peoples." In the resolution, native peoples are defined as people who "inhabited the land of the present-day United States since time immemorial and for thousands of years before the arrival of people of European descent."
(It also) "Apologizes on behalf of the people of the United States to all Native Peoples for the many instances of violence, maltreatment, and neglect inflicted on Native Peoples by citizens of the United States," the resolution reads.
"I am pleased that my colleagues have decided to move forward with a formal apology from the federal government to Native Americans," Brownback said. "This is a resolution of apology and reconciliation, and is a step toward healing divisive wounds."
"With this resolution we have the potential to start a new era of positive relations between tribal governments and the federal government," Brownback said.
"For too much of our history, federal-tribal relations have been marked by broken treaties, mistreatment and dishonorable dealings. With this resolution, we can acknowledge past failures, express sincere regrets and establish a brighter future for all Americans," he added.
- We praise the Lord for this major step in forgiveness by the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. Although this is a small step toward the full resolution, we pray for continued favor for Senate Joint Resolution 14 when it is placed on the Senate Calendar for a vote by the full Senate. Praise God!
- We thank God, too, for hearing the prayers of his saints, over many, many years, for this moment. "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)
About Those Town Halls
For Dems, Home Is Where the Heartburn Is
The same members who wrote the book on political antagonism under President Bush are lashing out at voters for being outspoken on health care. In a stunning column in USA Today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) seethed about the "ugly campaign" to derail the government takeover of health care. While everyday people are turning out by the thousands to voice concerns, the message from the top was simple: Anyone who disagrees with us is "simply un-American."
Obviously, these leaders have been so insulated from public opinion that any kind of focused resistance is uncomfortable. After getting their way for years, Congress seems shocked that voters are paying attention-so much so that any form of accountability or pointed questioning has them unnerved. Democrats who are used to seeing a few dozen constituents at their townhalls are facing boisterous, standing-room-only crowds--and their best retort is that dissent is "un-American"? Our nation was founded by dissenters! Deep down, these leaders know that this conflict is not a threat to society but only to their political fortunes.
In my home state of Louisiana, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) put it best this weekend. "Someone told me I should have security for this meeting today because of the angry crowds . . . I told them the best security is to vote right!" Pelosi and Hoyer would do well to heed that advice. Like us, they realize that this debate is about more than health care reform. It's about President Obama's ability to push a radical social agenda. With every packed townhall, every phone call to a member's office, and every email expressing concern, these leaders' dream of redefining America is slipping away. Whether people realize it or not, this is an historic moment in our nation's development. If we can drive back the government takeover of health care, we could turn the tide for our country's future.
Decades ago, a mathematician named Jacob Bronowski wrote, "Has there ever been a society which has died of dissent? Several have died of conformity in our lifetime." Don't conform! "Obama's Death Panel"
Sarah Palin is making headlines again, this time by expressing her views on the national debate over healthcare reform. In a Facebook blog entry, Palin wrote, "The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."
I think it's clear where she stands!
Over the weekend, Washington Post columnist Charles Lane explored the legislation at the root of this particularly controversial aspect of healthcare reform -- Section 1233 on end-of-life decisions. Here are some excerpts of his column:
". . . at least as I read it, Section 1233 is not totally innocuous . . . section 1233, however, addresses compassionate goals in disconcerting proximity to fiscal ones. . . .If it's all about obviating suffering, emotional or physical, what's it doing in a measure to 'bend the curve' on health-care costs? ". . . the [end-of-life] consultations envisioned in Section 1233 aren't quite 'purely voluntary,' . . . Section 1233, however, lets doctors initiate the chat and gives them an incentive -- money -- to do so. Indeed, that's an incentive to insist. . . .
As the Post's Charles Lane concluded about Section 1233 and ObamaCare's "death panels," "You don't have to be a right-wing wacko to question that approach." Indeed, you don't, and a lot of Americans are beginning to question a lot of Barack Obama's radical agenda.
This is a critical time for our country, and I encourage you to stand up and make your voice heard. . . (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Monday, Aug. 10, 2009)

White House Agrees That Town Hall Protesters Are Un-American
The man who occupies the Oval Office appears to agree with assertions that those protesting a socialist takeover of the healthcare system are "un-American."
Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton was asked by a reporter what OOO thinks about comments that disruptions at town all meetings were un-American. He replied, "...if people want to come and have a spirited debate about healthcare, a real vigorous conversation about it, that's part of the American tradition and he encourages that...Now if you just want to come to a town hall so that you can disrupt and so that you can scream over another person, he doesn't think that's productive." In other words, if you are protesting his plan, you are un-American.
Burton was asked what Obama thinks of the comments written in a USA Today editorial by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Stenny Hoyer. They wrote: "These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views - but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American." Apparently, Obama does believe they are un-American. Certainly, his Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina wants these complainers shut up as he advised Senators to be aggressive with their constituents who protest socialized medicine:"If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard."
Obama himself said that he doesn't want those who created the mess--meaning in his mind, conservatives--doing much of the talking. And the White House web site has encouraged Americans to turn in other Americans at flag@whitehouse.gov who might be spreading misinformation through "casual conversation." It is obvious that anyone who opposes turning America into a socialist nation is considered an enemy of the state by this Congress and this Administration. Concerned citizens are shouting because arrogant elected officials are demeaning them, not listening and turning union thugs loose to beat them up. We are at war with usurpers who are dismantling this nation.
Obama is going to hold his own town hall meeting on television to promote his socialist agenda. He will attempt to focus the debate on healthcare to dispel the "misinformation" about his plan. Truth is this plan is not about healthcare. It is about a socialist takeover of the Constitutional Republic. It is about forcing Americans to pay for abortions, euthanasia counseling, homosexual mainstreaming and the destruction of the free market system. Your God given rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness are in jeopardy. David asked in Psalm 94:16, "Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?" This is a war of deception, of trying to subdue you without doing battle. Who will rise up?
