1. US Ambassador Gives Priestly Blessing at Western Wall - Breaking Israel News

More than 50,000 people gathered on Wednesday at Jerusalem's Western Wall for the biannual priestly blessing. As per his custom since even before he was the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, David Melech (king) Friedman was on hand to perform his kohanic (priestly) duties.

The priestly blessing is normally said as part of the regular morning prayer service on weekdays and twice during the Sabbath and festival morning prayers. On chol hamoed (the intermediary days) of Pesach and Sukkot, it has become a custom in Israel to perform a massive version of the ritual at the Kotel (Western Wall). Approximately five percent of Jewish men have a family tradition that they are descended from the priestly class, so hundreds of kohanim (Jewish men descended from Aaron, the Biblical High Priest) were on hand to bless the masses in a manner that is powerfully reminiscent of the glory that was once part of the Temple service.

2. Trump Targets Iran at UN Address, Calls for Continued International Isolation - Breaking Israel News

U.S. President Donald Trump called for Iran's continued international isolation during his combative address at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. It prompted a response from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that the United States sought to topple his government.

In Trump's second appearance at the General Assembly, he also took aim at adversaries closer to home, including Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro - as well as international institutions such as the UN-backed world court.

Hours before Rouhani took to the dais, Trump condemned the theocratic leadership of the Islamic Republic for sowing "chaos, death and destruction," while he defended his controversial decision to tear up an internationally-brokered nuclear deal.

3. Report: Palestinian Textbooks Claim Entirety of Israel as Arab Land, Call Jews 'Sinful and Liars' - Algemeiner

Palestinian Authority textbooks encourage children to view the entirety of Israel as Arab territory, and teach them to seek the land's liberation even at the cost of martyrdom, according to a new report by a Jerusalem-based research group.

Palestinian nationalist and Islamist ideologies that reject Israel's basic legitimacy saturate lessons for children as young as six, with various science, math, and humanities exercises all reinforcing this overarching narrative, the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education (IMPACT-se) found.

The group studied grade 1-11 textbooks published for the 2017-18 academic year, and grade 12 textbooks that were inaugurated this August, following PA curriculum reforms first implemented in 2016. It released a preliminary review of the grades 5-11 curriculum in October.

4. Tamimi: Our goal is to remove Israel - Israel National News

Ahed Tamimi, the PA teenager from the village of Nabi Saleh who served an eight-month prison sentence for attacking IDF soldiers, visited France in order to increase public support for the "Palestinian cause" and opposition to Israel.

In a video in which she summarizes her impressions of the visit, Tamimi says, "When I arrived in France I saw how much people loved us and supported us and how they were interested in the Palestinian cause and the liberation of Palestine. That made me very happy. "

"We want the next generation to be liberated like everyone else in the world. Palestine is the land of peace that has never experienced peace. It was important to meet with official figures so they would exert pressure on Israel." she adds.

5. PM rejects invite to UNESCO anti-Semitism event, confirms Israel will leave body - Times of Israel

NEW YORK - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday harshly criticized UNESCO, shunning an event organized by the organization, and making it plain that Israel will not reconsider last year's decision to withdraw from it.

Netanyahu, who is currently in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, was invited to participate in a UNESCO-sponsored event on anti-Semitism. He initially considered attending and meeting UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay there, but eventually decided to boycott the event.

"While I commend all efforts to combat anti-Semitism, I have decided not to participate in this week's UNESCO conference on anti-Semitism due to the organization's persistent and egregious bias against Israel," he said in a statement.

1. Trump asks supporters to 'pray' for Kavanaugh, says Dems playing 'high level con game' - FoxNews

President Donald Trump late Monday tweeted out support for his embattled Supreme Court pick, and asked his supporters to "pray" for Brett Kavanaugh and his family. "The Democrats are playing a high level CON GAME in their vicious effort to destroy a fine person," Trump tweeted. "It is called the politics of destruction. Behind the scene the Dems are laughing. Pray for Brett Kavanaugh and his family!"

Kavanaugh has denied all the allegations and told Fox News in an exclusive interview on Monday that he wants a "fair process where I can defend my integrity, and I know I'm telling the truth." Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, rejected a request on Tuesday from Democrats to postpone the scheduled hearing. The committee also on Tuesday tentatively scheduled a vote on Kavanaugh's nomination for Friday morning.

- Father, we lift up Brett Kavanaugh and his family to You. We pray the ordeal of this confirmation process will refine each of them into the persons You desire them to be.

2. 'A War that Will Have Worldwide Implications': Evangelist Dutch Sheets' Urgent Call to Prayer for US Judiciary - CBN News

Internationally-known evangelist Dutch Sheets has released a video message encouraging Christians to pray for America. He believes one of the keys to transformation in the US is a change in the judicial branch of the government. "The Left knows this, which is why their vicious and unprincipled attack of Justice Kavanaugh is unrelenting," he said. "These efforts are an attempt to delay the confirmation vote until after the midterms in hopes through these elections they will regain control of Congress."

Sheets said he was at Kavanaugh's Senate confirmation hearing in early September along with 50 other intercessors praying for God's will. "The level of spiritual warfare was extraordinary," Sheets continued. "Never have I been more convinced that a war of historical proportions is underway for the soul of our nation. A war-that will have worldwide implications. Like Israel, America's role on the earth is extremely significant."

Sheets asked viewers to pray for Judge Kavanaugh, his family, and for the upcoming midterm elections. "Ask God to give us the breakthrough in the Supreme Court we have been requesting for decades. A majority of justices who are constitutionalist...and who are pro-life. Please pray for the mid-term elections," he continued. "They should at least in part be decided based on God's will, destiny for America, righteousness, life for the babies, morality, and the eternal souls of human beings."

3. Arizona prosecutor is GOP choice to question Kavanaugh and Ford - New Haven Register

Republican senators have selected Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell to question Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the woman who has accused the Supreme Court nominee of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers, a top senator announced Tuesday.

"The majority members have followed the bipartisan recommendation to hire as staff counsel for the committee an experienced career sex-crimes prosecutor to question the witnesses at Thursday's hearing," Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a statement. "The goal is to de-politicize the process and get to the truth, instead of grandstanding and giving senators an opportunity to launch their presidential campaigns."

The division Mitchell heads deals with family violence, physical and sexual abuse of children, and sex offenses, including sex assault cases. Mitchell oversees about 40 to 50 people in the division, said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. Mitchell has a long history of investigating years-old sex crimes and allegations that are difficult to corroborate, including in her role re-examining hundreds of cases that were unresolved and inadequately investigated by the sheriff's office, Montgomery said."

4. 'Grotesque and Obvious Character Assassination': Here's Kavanaugh's Prepared Testimony for Thursday - CBN News

Eleven days ago, Dr. Ford publicly accused me of committing a serious wrong more than 36 years ago when we were both in high school. I denied the allegation immediately, unequivocally, and categorically. The next day, I told this Committee that I wanted to testify as soon as possible, under oath, to clear my name.

Over the past few days, other false and uncorroborated accusations have been aired. There has been a frenzy to come up with something-anything, no matter how far-fetched or odious-that will block a vote on my nomination. These are last-minute smears, pure and simple.

They debase our public discourse. And the consequences extend beyond any one nomination. Such grotesque and obvious character assassination-if allowed to succeed-will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from serving our country.

5. George Soros Funded Fusion GPS, His Spokesman Confirms - FreeBeacon

George Soros has indirectly funded Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the infamous Steele dossier, a spokesman for the billionaire financier has acknowledged. Michael Vachon, the Soros aide, told Washington Post columnist David Ignatius that Soros provided a grant to a nonprofit group called the Democracy Integrity Project. That organization, which was formed in 2017 by Daniel Jones, a former Senate Intelligence Committee staffer for Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, paid Fusion GPS as a contractor to continue an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The Post column confirms what a Washington, D.C., lawyer named Adam Waldman told The Daily Caller News Foundation about a conversation he had with Jones in March 2017. "Dan Jones here from the Democracy Integrity Project. Chris wanted us to connect," he wrote, seemingly referring to Steele. At a meeting two days later, Waldman said that Jones told him that he was working with Steele and Fusion GPS and that their project was being funded by Soros and a group of Silicon Valley billionaires. Jones told the FBI in interviews in March 2017 that his organization was paid around $50 million by a group of billionaires to conduct the investigation.

6. James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Sally Yates asked to testify in ongoing House investigation into FBI, DOJ - Washington Examiner

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., issued requests to interview former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. Committee sources confirmed to Politico that the letters of request were sent Friday and Monday for the three high-profile witnesses.

The letters request each witness to arrange a time as soon as possible to testify in the investigation into FBI and Justice Department actions in 2016 and 2017. Co-founder of Fusion GPS Glenn Simpson, former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, former DOJ deputy counterintelligence chief Richard Scott, and former FBI official Bill Sweney are among the other witnesses who received requests to testify.

7. W. Virginia's Decision to Allow Smartphone Voting for Midterms Raises Serious Security Concerns - PJ Media

For the first time in our nation's history, voters in 24 counties in W. Virginia will be able to vote using their mobile phones. While some are hailing the decision because it will make voting easier for members of the military deployed overseas, experts are warning of possible security breaches.

"Voatz has developed a secure mobile voting application that allows voters to receive, vote, and return their ballots electronically," the press release claims. "The application also utilizes blockchain technology to store electronically submitted ballots until election night, and requires a heightened standard of identity verification for users than traditional absentee ballot processes. This project is unprecedented in United States history, being the first mobile voting application and first use of blockchain technology in a federal election."

"Because blockchain is a distributed ledger of transactions, military mobile votes become immutable and tamper-proof once recorded," says Voatz. The state of W. Virginia admits that there are "substantial" security concerns, but explained that Voatz will be utilizing "federal standards for software development, regular maintenance and security upgrades, in-depth penetration testing, source code auditing and audits of the system's cloud infrastructure. After surpassing those requirements, the pilot moved forward."

8. Let's End Washington's Use-It-or-Lose-It Spending Culture - RealClearPolitics

In a few weeks, members of Congress will face voters who ought to be in a better mood. The economy is growing twice as fast as it did under the previous administration. Tax and regulatory reform are bringing capital back into the economy. Still, taxpayers feel uncertain and nervous.

One reason could be Congress' failure to curtail spending. A common-sense fix that has been neglected is confronting the irrational use-it-or-lose budget practices in Washington. In the private economy, any business that spends less on overhead than budgeted is rewarded. In government, the opposite is true. Agencies that spend less than they received are punished, in their view, with lower budgets. Rather than lock in these savings, agencies engage in end-of-the-fiscal-year spending sprees. If they don't use it, they'll lose it.

If the swamp seems to be draining slowly, that's because Congress hasn't removed the plug. Changing the use-it-or-lose-it culture in Washington would go a long way toward generating big savings and winning the public's trust.

9. Report Finds $3.1 Trillion in Savings for Taxpayers - FreeBeacon

Taxpayers could save over $3 trillion by eliminating wasteful and inefficient programs and unfair subsidies, according to a new report from a watchdog group. Citizens Against Government Waste released its annual Prime Cuts report Wednesday, recommending 600 ways to reduce spending with savings of $429.8 billion the first year and $3.1 trillion over five years.

The group said cutting Medicare improper payments just in half could save $18.1 billion. Other recommendations include ending subsidies for Amtrak to save taxpayers nearly $10 billion over five years, and ending sugar, dairy, and peanut subsidies.

"As the U.S. budget hurdles toward trillion-dollar deficits and with the national debt exceeding $21 trillion, Prime Cuts 2018 is needed now, more than ever," said Tom Schatz, the president of CAGW. "The only way to put our country on a path toward fiscal sanity is for leaders to make bold decisions to reduce waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement; and Prime Cuts 2018 is an invaluable resource for them to achieve that objective."

-Father, we pray Congress will heed these recommendations and reduce the waste, fraud, and abuse throughout our government.

-Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. (Isaiah 58:12)

10. Consumer confidence hits 138.4 in September, vs. 132 estimate - CNBC

Consumer confidence rose in September, notching its highest level in about 18 years. "Consumers' assessment of current conditions remains extremely favorable, bolstered by a strong economy and robust job growth," said said Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at the Conference Board. "These historically high confidence levels should continue to support healthy consumer spending, and should be welcome news for retailers as they begin gearing up for the holiday season." Franco added September's index print is near the all-time high of 144.7 reached in 2000.

The survey measures Americans' sentiment on current economic conditions and prospects for the next six months, including business and labor market conditions. The Conference Board also said optimism about the short-term outlook improved considerably this month, with 27.6 percent of consumers expecting business conditions to improve over the next six months; that's up from 24.4 percent in August. Consumers expecting business conditions to worsen, meanwhile, dropped to 8 percent from 9.9 percent.

Labor-market expectations also improved in September as 22.5 percent of consumers expected more jobs in the months ahead, up from 21.5 percent in August. This comes after the Labor Department said Thursday initial weekly jobless claims fell to their lowest level in nearly 49 years, totaling 201,000 for the week ending Sept. 15.

Matters of Truth and the media cycle

Wednesday, September 26, 2018

There was a time when journalists were taught to verify what a source said. Nowadays, truth doesn't matter to the media. Stories are measured by their social media views and impressions. The more outrageous the headline, the more views, the more successful it is. Headlines may not have anything much to do with the story. But once the story is published, it is in the pubic forever, true or not. The news media is more interested in publishing, tweeting, instagramming, snapchatting than it is interested in getting the story straight. An example is the Kavanaugh Supreme Court hearing. Stories abound of the accusations, but the veracity of those allegations is rarely challenged. They are then weaponized for political gain.

Here's the cycle: Someone plants a story, say about sexual misconduct; That story makes the headlines; the commentators start talking about it; The truth is really difficult to come by because no one dares question whether the alleged victim is telling the truth; Then another story is planted about yet another sexual misconduct; This story makes the headlines, but buried deep in the story are the holes-lack of memory, alcohol is involved, can't remember time, place, or even the face of the accused; the story gives the first story momentum; now more people are talking about both stories; someone tells the media there is another accuser; there is no other accuser, but the story makes headlines anyway.

By now, the major networks are all chatting, speculating, analyzing the picture that has been painted of a serial sexual predator. Videos run over and over. Talking heads are debating. Politicians are pontificating. All the while, the accused is treated as if he is guilty until proven innocent. To the politicians involved, it matters not whether the accuser is telling the truth or if the accused is guilty or innocent. It doesn't matter to them because they know the story is public, and if the public hears enough of it, its opinion is swayed. And that is what matters to the politician. The media doesn't care either about the alleged victim or the accused because it is getting its views, impressions and ratings.

This is what happens when the truth matters not. Lives are damaged. People are deceived. Reputations are ruined. Responsible journalism is but a memory of a time gone by. Lazy or agenda-driven reporters care little about the truth and everything about their views. Citizens rarely check the facts themselves. They just read and hear and form their opinions. For politicians, the end justifies the means. 2 Timothy 2:15-16 advises, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness." We are seeing this cycle play out-babblings increasing unto more ungodliness because dividing of the truth is lacking. Let us always seek the truth, dividing it rightly, and seeing through the profane.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Honoring our Soldiers

America's deadliest battle: World War I's Meuse-Argonne Offensive 100 years later

A century ago Wednesday, the first shots were fired in one of the most important American military engagements ever -- and the deadliest battle in U.S. history.

World War I's Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which involved more than a million American soldiers and claimed the lives of 26,277, was launched in northern France on Sept. 26, 1918 to push the German army out of the country and reclaim a rail network vital to supplying enemy troops. The fight lasted a grueling 46 days and generated scores of stories of heroism and sacrifice.

But most notably, it helped bring an end to The Great War. (Fox News) Read more.

It is the soldier, not the minister who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier, not the politician who has given us the right to vote.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

Classic Hymns

JUST AS I AM

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
(Matthew 11:28)

Lyrics

Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidd'st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Signs and Wonders

NASA SPOTS SILENT MARS ROVER

Almost 4 months ago, Mars rover Opportunity fell silent as a dust storm engulfed the Red Planet. Daytime skies turned black, robbing the solar-powered rover of vital electricity it needed to stay warm and communicate with Earth. Today, Opportunity is still silent, but it is no longer invisible. NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has spotted it on the slopes of Perseverance Valley.

hinning dust allowed Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to see Opportunity for the first time since the storm began in early June. The satellite was 267 kilometers above Mars when it took the picture on Sept. 20th. The white box marks a 47-meter-wide area centered on the rover.

The picture confirms (1) that Opportunity is where it ought to be, and (2) that the air is clearing, allowing sunshine to reach the rover again. Nevertheless, Opportunity has not phoned home, prompting mission controllers to wonder if the dogged explorer has suffered permanent harm. NASA is now signalling Opportunity multiple times every day using antennas of the Deep Space Network. (Read more)

A Godly Legacy: How a Retiring Congressman Made Special Needs Interns Indispensable to Capitol Hill

(Washington, DC)-[CBN News] Almost 60 representatives in Congress plan to retire this year, and among them is Mississippi Congressman Gregg Harper (R-MS).

Rep. Harper came to Washington 10 years ago wanting to make a difference and looking back, he had no idea his greatest legacy would require no legislation at all.

"So as God indeed directs our paths, from the beginning I was on the Committee on House Administration, which has the oversight on the intern programs," Harper told CBN News. "So we went to them and we started one."

Harper's idea turned into a program serving students with intellectual disabilities, who at that time had no opportunities to work on the Hill. It started small, with three interns and six different offices.

'We Don't Have Enough Students to Meet the Demand'

"We've now had eight years as a permanent program, over 170 House and Senate offices. Republicans and Democrats have participated to the point we don't have enough students to meet the demand," continued Harper.

Harper says the program is so popular, offices must often wait a semester before an intern becomes available.

"It's giving them great opportunity, great experience, help them to get over some shyness perhaps," he explained. "By the end of the semester, they're part of the family and the confidence level is incredible."
