"Standing United Together . . . Under the Cross of Christ"

Focus on Israel

1. Abbas fails to garner European support for 'Palestine'- World Israel News

Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas urged the European Union (EU) countries to recognize the 'State of Palestine' but failed to garner any substantial support.

In a joint press conference on Monday with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini in Brussels, Abbas insisted that the only way to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians is through negotiations "under international supervision." He stressed the importance of the EU's political involvement in order to ensure that the issues discussed are "justly resolve[d]." (Read more)

2. EU promises to back Abbas' demand for Jerusalem - Israel National News

The European Union pledged its support Monday for Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas' vision of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

On Monday, PA chairman Abbas met with European Union Foreign Affairs High Representative Federica Mogherini in the EU capital in Brussels, in a bid by the PA leader to win recognition for Palestinian statehood from the 28-member European body. (Read more)

- Abba, we see conflicting stories regarding the European support for a separate "Palestinian" State. We know that You are Sovereign and You are Lord of all of Israel. We lift this matter before You, and ask for Your will to be done, on earth as in heaven. We pray for the truth and no further twisting of this story, in the name of Yeshua, amen.

- "Let your yes be yes, and your no be no." (Matthew 5:37)

3. Rivlin: Gaza about to collapse, epidemics on horizon - Times of Israel

The Gaza Strip is headed for a humanitarian breakdown, and Israel is the only country providing its residents with basic essentials, President Reuven Rivlin said on Sunday after touring the area around the coastal enclave.

"Gaza is on the verge of collapse," he warned. "The time is coming near when the infrastructure in Gaza will collapse, leaving many civilians in distress, with no sanitary conditions, exposed to pollution, impure water, and epidemics.

"The entire world must know and understand that the ones who are preventing rehabilitation are Hamas. Israel is the only one in the region, that whatever the situation, transfers basic essentials to the residents of Gaza, so that they can sustain the body and mind," Rivlin added. (Read more)

4. Bennett: Our goal is national leadership - Israel National News

Jewish Home chairman and Education Minister Naftali Bennett arrived at the Ramada Hotel in Jerusalem on Monday evening, where he voted in the elections for the Jewish Home Central Committee.

After he voted, Bennett told Arutz Sheva that "the Jewish Home's goal is national leadership. We see here a dynamic and vibrant movement. Many people are coming to vote."

Asked about running together with the National Union, as the two parties did in the last election, Bennett replied, "We are determined to run together, we will find the way. Twice already we have managed to unite, and I believe that it will happen again. Everyone will have to be flexible." (Read more)

5. Likud MK initiates sovereignty in Jordan Valley - Israel National News

MK Sharren Haskel (Likud) on Tuesday toured the Jordan Valley with the head of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, David Elhiani.

During the tour, Haskel announced she was promoting a new bill to apply Israeli sovereignty in the communities in the Jordan Valley and northern Dead Sea. The proposal will soon be submitted to the Ministerial Committee for Legislation. (Read more)

6. Israeli President Rivlin to Pence: I Hope Trump's Jerusalem Move Will Advance Peace Process - Haaretz

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence met on Tuesday morning with President Reuven Rivlin, saying that President Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is the clearest sign of America's commitment to Israel. He expressed hope that the decision would advance the peace process.

7. Pence: Timing of Trump peace plan depends on Palestinians - Jerusalem Post

US Vice President Mike Pence said on Tuesday the timing of a long-awaited US Middle East peace initiative depended on the return of Palestinians to negotiations.

President Donald Trump's advisers have been working on the outlines of a plan for some time. But Palestinians ruled out Washington as a peace broker after the US president's December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"The White House has been working with our partners in the region to see if we can develop a framework for peace," Pence told Reuters in an interview in Jerusalem on the last leg of his three-day Middle East trip. "It all just depends now on when the Palestinians are going to come back to the table." href="http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Pence-Timing-of-Trump-peace-plan-depends-on-Palestinians-539561">(Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. Claim: Page and Strzok Referenced FBI 'Secret Society' that Met the Day After the Election - PJ Media

There is serious talk on Capitol Hill about the appointment of a second special counsel amid several new bombshell revelations swirling around the Trump/Russia probe. First, there are the allegations of shocking and substantial government surveillance abuses under President Obama outlined in the FISA abuse memo. Secondly, the FBI lost five months of key text messages between the anti-Trump/pro-Clinton FBI officials Peter Strzok and his mistress Lisa Page. And now there's talk of a "secret society" of officials within the FBI that apparently met the day after the election of Donald J. Trump to plot against the president-elect.

Top Republicans now believe there may be real grounds for a second special counsel, Fox News reported Monday evening. Rep. Ratcliffe said that former FBI director James Comey needs to come back to Capitol Hill to testify again under oath on the question of when the decision to exonerate former secretary of State Hillary Clinton was made. The latest batch of text messages between Strzok and Page suggests that Comey was coordinating with Attorney General Lynch on the decision well ahead of his July 5 press conference.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement Monday that a review is "already underway to ascertain what occurred and to determine if these records can be recovered in any other way." Said Sessions: "If any wrongdoing were to be found to have caused this gap, appropriate legal disciplinary action measures will be taken. We will leave no stone unturned to confirm with certainty why these text messages are not now available to be produced and will use every technology available to determine whether the missing messages are recoverable from another source. If we are successful, we will update the congressional committees immediately," he added. (Read more)

- Lord, You know all secrets and nothing is hidden from You. We pray for the complete exposure of every person involved in the conspiracy to undermine the Trump administration.

- For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all. (Luke 8:17)

2. Supreme Court to speed DACA case - Washington Times

The Supreme Court said Tuesday it will speed up a case involving the Trump administration's request to cancel the Obama-era DACA deportation amnesty, moving to grab a piece of the unfolding immigration debate. In a brief order, the justices said they have granted the administration's request to hear the case even before a ruling by a lower appeals court. Such requests are rarely granted. A district judge issued a controversial ruling earlier this month that found the 2012 DACA program legal, and found the Homeland Security secretary's decision to undo the program illegal.

Judge William Alsup, a Clinton appointee to the bench, also ruled then-candidate Donald Trump's rhetoric about Mexicans proved he had racial animus, which the judge said colored the Homeland Security Department's decision to phase out DACA. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has said the ruling "defies both law and common sense." The Justice Department, in asking the Supreme Court to hear the case, called the six-month phaseout a "humane choice" that was better than having the courts rule it illegal and cancel it immediately. One irony of the case is that the chief plaintiff is Janet Napolitano, who is now president of the University of California, but before that was the Homeland Security secretary who created DACA in 2012. Ms. Napolitano's defense of the DACA program is due early next month. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for a quick decision from the Supreme Court to settle the legal status of the DACA program.

- Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need. (Psalm 79:8)

3. Illegal Aliens Quietly Being Relocated Throughout U.S. on Commercial Flights - Judicial Watch

Immigrants entering the United States illegally through the southern border are quietly being relocated to different parts of the country on commercial flights, high-ranking Homeland Security officials told Judicial Watch this week. In the last few days alone, groups of illegal aliens boarded planes at airports in Texas and Arizona accompanied by a taxpayer-funded government escort in civilian clothes to avoid drawing attention. The first flight originated at Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas and was bound for Minneapolis. The second left from Tucson International Airport and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, federal sources said. In both locations the illegal aliens appeared to be in their late teens and were escorted by a Health and Human Services (HHS) chaperone. Judicial Watch reached out to HHS for comment but did not hear back from the agency.

In a recent newspaper article Border Patrol agents in Texas say they've been ordered to release illegal immigrants caught entering through Mexico because there is no bed space at detention facilities. In the same news story, the head of the ICE officers' union (Chris Crane) and the National Border Patrol Council (Brandon Judd) said detrimental old policies remain in place because Obama managers are still running their agencies. Crane, a veteran ICE agent, refers to the Obama holdovers as "incompetent, corrupt and anti-enforcement." There was tremendous hope that Trump would finally put an end-as promised-to the dangerous Obama policies that released scores of illegal immigrants into different parts of the country. (Read more)

- Father, we are astounded at the malfeasance of our federal government employees. Deliver us from this corrosive policy and the people who developed it.

- A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; (Proverbs 16:28a)

4. Supremes join Trump to dismantle Obama power grab - WND

The Trump administration has worked virtually nonstop since the inauguration to dismantle some of the environmental campaigns launched by Barack Obama, and on Monday the U.S. Supreme Court joined in. The justices ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency cannot provide a hedge of protection preventing courts from reviewing its actions by requiring such appeals be heard only in some courts. "Today's ruling is a victory for the rule of law and for accountability in government," said James S. Burling of the Pacific Legal Foundation.

"The EPA's 'waters of the United States' rule may be the most brazen - and lawless - expansion of bureaucratic power in American history. The regulators who imposed it tried to shield it from review by limiting opportunities for the public to bring challenges. The Supreme Court struck a blow for liberty by rejecting this ploy and guaranteeing access to justice for the EPA's victims," Burling said. "The Supreme Court's rejection of the EPA's power play strengthens everyone's right to challenge bureaucratic abuses, all across the governmental landscape," he said. (Read more)

- Lord, thank You for favor before the court. We pray other rulings will be made limiting the power of the federal government, where they have exceeded their statutory and constitutional authority.

- My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. (Psalm 71:4)

5. Trump applies tariffs to solar panels, washing machines - One News Now

President Donald Trump on Monday approved tariffs on imported solar-energy components and large washing machines in a bid to help U.S. manufacturers. The Republican's decision followed recommendations for tariffs by the U.S. International Trade Commission. "The president's action makes clear again that the Trump administration will always defend American workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses in this regard," U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement announcing the decision.

Most imported solar modules will face an immediate tariff of 30 percent, with the rate declining before phasing out after four years. For large residential washing machines, tariffs will start at up to 50 percent and phase out after three years. The tariffs were sought last year by Suniva Inc., which filed for bankruptcy protection in April, and the U.S. subsidiary of Germany's SolarWorld. They said that a nearly 500 percent increase in imported solar panels over five years led to a ruinous price collapse. Nearly 30 U.S. solar-manufacturing facilities had closed in the past five years, they said, as China plotted to flood the global market with cheap products to weaken U.S. manufacturing. The case for tariffs on washing machines was pushed by Benton Harbor, Michigan-based Whirlpool Corp. The company's chairman, Jeff Fettig, said tariffs on imported machines would create new manufacturing jobs in Ohio, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these targeted tariffs will help these industries recover financially and remain competitive.

- Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life. (Ecclesiastes 7:14)

6. Jerome Powell confirmed as next chairman of the Fed - Washington Examiner

The Senate overwhelmingly voted Tuesday afternoon to make Jerome Powell the 16th chairman of the Federal Reserve, giving him an overwhelming bipartisan endorsement to manage the central bank. The vote for the 64 year-old Powell, a current member of the Fed's Board of Governors and former financier and Treasury official, was 85-12. He is set to take over from current Chairwoman Janet Yellen when her term expires Feb. 3. As the top economic policymaker in the world, Powell will face the responsibility of extending the economic recovery as it extends toward a ninth year and undoing some of the emergency monetary policy stimulus measures put into place during the financial crisis. He also is expected to play a major role in the Trump administration's push to lessen banking regulations for the purpose of promoting loan growth.

In terms of monetary policy, Powell is likely to continue on the course set by Yellen for only gradual interest rate increases in the years ahead, as the economy recovers from the recession. Nevertheless, recently released transcripts from the monetary policy meetings during his first year suggest that he has a more "hawkish" view of monetary policy than Yellen or Bernanke, meaning that he favors tighter money and has more skepticism of stimulus efforts. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Chairman Powell will effectively lead the Federal Reserve with integrity and wisdom from You.

- For wisdom is protection just as money is protection, but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors. (Ecclesiastes 7:12)

7. California Democrats want some businesses to fork over half tax-cut savings to state - Fox News

Calling the Trump administration's tax reform plan a "middle-class tax increase," two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state. Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state's social services programs.

"It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals," Ting said in a statement, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. "This bill will help blunt the impact of the federal tax plan on everyday Californians by protecting funding for education, affordable health care and other core priorities."

The paper reported that the two lawmakers face an up-hill battle because Democrats in the state have lost their supermajority in the Legislature. (Read more)

- Lord, we can foresee many businesses pulling up their California roots and leaving. We ask for Your wisdom to find a home in California, and ask that the people who know You rise up and say no to these foolish actions.

- "Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil."
(Proverbs 3:7)

8. Pennsylvania Congressional District Map Is Ruled Unconstitutional - New York Times

Pennsylvania's congressional district map is a partisan gerrymander that "clearly, plainly and palpably" violates the state's Constitution, the State Supreme Court said on Monday, adding to a string of court decisions striking down political maps that unduly favor one political party. The court banned the current map of the state's 18 House districts from being used in this year's primary and general elections, and ordered that a new map be submitted to the court by Feb. 15. But the state's Republican-dominated Legislature, which approved the current map in 2011, has already said it would try to overturn such a decision in federal court. But an appeal to the federal courts would very likely fail, election experts said, because decisions based solely on interpretations of state law - as this one appears to be - are generally beyond the reach of federal judges.

If the state court ruling stands and the map is redrawn, the consequences could be serious for Republicans, who are already battling national political headwinds in their effort to maintain control of the House in the midterm elections this fall. Republicans in the State Senate said they would ask the State Supreme Court to stay its order for new maps, and made it clear that they would try to take the matter to a federal court. But legal experts said their chances appeared slim at best, because federal courts generally have no authority to review state court decisions that exclusively involve state law. The State Supreme Court took pains to say that the state Constitution was the "sole basis" for its ruling requiring a new map. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your protection upon our electoral process. Help the Pennsylvania legislature develop a new electoral map that better represents the people. But choose some capable men from among the people-men who respect God, who can be trusted, and who will not change their decisions for money.

- Make these men officers over the people, to rule over groups of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. (Exodus 18:21)

9. Kentucky school shooting leaves at least two dead and 17 others injured, officials say - Fox News

A shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton, Ky., left at least two people dead and 17 others injured after a student opened fire on Tuesday, officials said. During a news conference later in the day, officials said the alleged shooter, a 15-year-old male student, was in custody and will be charged with murder and attempted murder. "He was apprehended by the sheriff's department here on site, at the school, thankfully before any more lives could be taken," Kentucky State Police Lt. Michael Webb said.

The shooting began around 8 a.m. when the teenager entered the school with a handgun, authorities said. The 17 people injured were all believed to be students, according to Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, who added that 12 of them suffered gunshot wounds. The two people killed include a 15-year-old female student, who died at the scene, and a 15-year-old male student, who died at the hospital. (Read more)

- Father, our hearts go out to these families. We pray Your comfort and healing to bring them through this difficult time.

- I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

10. Science Is Giving the Pro-Life Movement a Boost - The Atlantic

Activists like McGuire believe it makes perfect sense to be pro-science and pro-life. While she opposes abortion on moral grounds, she believes studies of fetal development, improved medical techniques, and other advances anchor the movement's arguments in scientific fact. "The pro-life message has been, for the last 40-something years, that the fetus is a life, and it is a human life worthy of all the rights the rest of us have," she said. "That's been more of an abstract concept until the last decade or so." But, she added, "when you're seeing a baby sucking its thumb at 18 weeks, smiling, clapping," it becomes "harder to square the idea that that 20-week-old, that unborn baby or fetus, is discardable."

"The pro-life movement has always been a movement aimed at cultivating the moral imagination so people can understand why we should care about human beings in the womb," said Snead, the Notre Dame professor. "Science has been used, for a long time, as a bridge to that moral imagination." Now, the pro-life movement has successfully brought their scientific rallying cry to Capitol Hill. In a recent promotional video for the Charlotte Lozier Institute, Republican legislators spoke warmly about how data helps make the case for limiting abortion. "When we have very difficult topics that we need to talk about, the Charlotte Lozier Institute gives credibility to the testimony and to the information that we're giving others," said Tennessee Representative Diane Black. Representative Claudia Tenney of New York agreed: "We're winning on facts, and we're winning hearts and minds on science." (Read more)

- Father, we give glory to You for the hearts and minds that have changed towards the unborn. Help us continue persuading our culture to value and protect all life.

- You gave me life and showed me your unfailing love. My life was preserved by your care. (Job 10:12)

Crisis at the Doorstep

Each day new information surfaces that there was a conspiracy deep into the federal government to keep the globalist cabal in power by undermining the Trump Administration and actually effecting a coup. Now there is more information that there was a secret society at the FBI holding secret meetings in an apparent attempt to undermine and overthrow President Donald Trump. This is particularly important to note that the same actors involved were those who exonerated Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton days before the election, and the current special counsel investigating Trump is a George W Bush-appointed, and ex "president"-kept, former head of the FBI, Robert Mueller.

On Tuesday's FOX News Special Report with Bret Baier, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) said that Congressional investigators have an informant who confirmed the secret society exists at the FBI and that its members secretly met after the election to plot against Trump. Johnson said that Congress didn't have all the answers and investigators would continue to dig for information. He said, however, "Robert Mueller used to run the FBI. He is in no position to do an investigation over this kind of misconduct... When you see this kind of bias and corruption in the FBI you have to ask the question, are there similar individuals highly biased -- political operatives burrowed into the Department of Justice as well. Does Attorney General Sessions really have a department he can rely on and trust as well?"

Let's take an inventory. Immediately following the election, Clinton refused to accept the results. The outgoing "president" encouraged mayhem, funded "resistance" organizations, and established former supporters and advisors over key government positions. Some who left the previous Administration, like Rosa Brooks, former Pentagon advisor, called for a military coup from her new position at the George Soros-funded New America Foundation. Now we find that high ranking lackeys of the ex "president" and the Clinton governmental organized crime syndicate, were plotting to undermine a duly elected President. Couple this with media complicity on impeachment and other fronts, and we have the makings of a coup.

While the media will not admit it, and pasty-faced Congressmen are too cautious to say it, we are watching this very sophisticated coup take place before our eyes. We have to suspend our disbelief to recognize it, but all the components are there. Attempt after attempt to disrupt this Presidency with accusations, investigations, stonewalling, and opposition at every juncture-led by Democrats, supported by globalist Republicans, and aided and abetted by a very hostile and Marxist "free press." As Romans 13:12 says, "The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light." As Christian Americans, we must pray for and very vocally support these brave men and women who are exposing the usurpers and revolutionaries. Truth and Justice are on the line.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns

OUR GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST

"Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations."
(Psalm 90:1)

Lyrics

1 Our God, our Help in ages past, our Hope for years to come, our Shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal Home.

2 Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; sufficient is Thine arm alone, and our defense is sure.

3 Before the hills in order stood or earth received its frame, from everlasting Thou art God, to endless years the same.
4 A thousand ages in Thy sight are like an ev'ning gone, short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun.

5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream, bears all its sons away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the op'ning day.

6 Our God, our Help in ages past, our Hope for years to come, be Thou our Guide while life shall last, and our eternal Home!

7.9 quake in Gulf of Alaska was type that doesn't usually generate big tsunamis

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.9 hit beneath the Gulf of Alaska early Tuesday, resulting in tsunami alerts for coastal areas from British Columbia to the Aleutians. All Alaska warnings, alerts and advisories were canceled just after 4 a.m., and there were no reports of significant waves or damage. The quake hit at 12:31 a.m., according to the USGS. The tsunami alert activated emergency warnings along coastal Alaska, and alerts were issued for residents to move to high ground. Sirens blasted in Kodiak and Homer, and people in communities from Sitka to Kodiak were evacuated.

The earthquake was a "strike-slip" quake that occurred on a fault deep undersea, according to Ken Macpherson, watchstander at the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer. That type of seismic event doesn't usually result in big tsunamis, unlike earthquake along subduction zones where one plate essentially rises off another abruptly, pushing up a lot of water. This quake created a more horizontal, back-and-forth motion, Macpherson said. "Historically, these types of earthquakes have not generated huge tsunamis." Tuesday's quake was centered 181 miles southeast of Kodiak, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center. The quake was 15.5 miles deep, the center said. The magnitude was initially reported to be about 6 miles deep and magnitude 8.2 but was later downgraded to 7.9 (Anchorage Daily News) Read more

Dead Sea Scrolls Discovery: Obscure Fragments Deciphered

One of the last two parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls has finally been translated, thanks to researchers at the University of Haifa.

Dr. Eshbal Ratson and Prof. Jonathan Ben-Dov of the Department of Bible Studies managed to put together 60 tiny fragments over more than a year, obtaining fresh insight into a festival that marked the changing of the seasons.

First discovered in a cave in Qumran in 1947, there are 900 scrolls which make up the Dead Sea Scrolls; together, the collection is considered to be the oldest copy of the Bible in known existence, thought to have been created around the 4th century B.C.

The majority of the scrolls were discovered between 1947 and 1956, and have since been restored and published. (Fox News) Read more.
