Gunmen attacked security forces near the St. Catherine's Monastery in Egypt's south Sinai on Tuesday evening, killing at least one police officer and injuring four others, according to Reuters. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack on a police checkpoint about 800 meters (yards) from the entrance to the monastery, one of the world's most important Christian sites, the local health ministry said.

St. Catherine's, founded in the 6th century and located at the foot of Mount Sinai, is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world and a UNESCO world heritage site. (Read more)

The world needs to find a comprehensive solution for issues in the Middle East since the complicated situation in the region is affecting peace and stability for the whole world, Gong Xiaosheng, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue, said Friday during an interview in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

"There is no other way out when it comes to the issue of the Middle East, political solution is the only option. Military operations cannot solve any issues. So the international community should come back toward the right direction and use diplomacy to solve problems, promote peace between parties and push forward political negotiations and peace processes," Gong said.

Russia's Ambassador to Israel Alexander Shein is expected to meet in the coming days with senior Foreign Ministry officials to discuss the significance of its surprise announcement earlier this month to recognize west Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state.

Shein is expected to tell his interlocutors that Moscow now recognizes west Jerusalem as Israel's capital and that it expects that east Jerusalem will be the capital of a Palestinian state in any future agreement.

The Daily Brief

Please note:
Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Major Free Exercise Case Before Supreme Court Tomorrow - Liberty Counsel

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments tomorrow in Trinity Lutheran Church v. Pauley to decide whether excluding churches from public grant program violates the First Amendment's Free Exercise Clause and the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who replaced Justice Antonin Scalia, took the bench for the first time on Monday, and tomorrow he will be on the bench in time to participate in what could be a major case involving the Free Exercise of Religion.

Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia, Missouri, which operates a preschool and daycare with a public playground, applied to a state grant program that helps nonprofits install recycled rubber playground surfaces. The church applied for the Missouri Scrap Tire Program in 2012 to replace the gravel surface of its playground to provide a safer and more accessible playground for children. However, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources rejected its application, citing a clause in Missouri's state constitution that bars the use of state funds "directly or indirectly, in aid of any church, sect or denomination of religion," despite having ranked it fifth out of 44 submissions in a competition that resulted in 14 grants.

The church sued in federal district court, arguing that its exclusion was a violation of free-exercise and equal-protection rights. The district court rejected Trinity Lutheran's claims, ruling that to do otherwise would raise "antiestablishment concerns." (Read more)

- Father, we pray for the law to be enforced equally, and the rights of those who esteem You be upheld by our Supreme Court.

Speaking to a crowd at the Snap-On Tools facility in Kenosha, Wis., Trump said the Buy American, Hire American executive order will protect American workers, because it requires that American projects be made with American goods. (Read more)

- Father, we pray this action will provide the necessary disincentive to employers from firing American citizens and replacing them with immigrants. We pray for fairness in our laws, and that all abuses within the HB-1 visa program be corrected.

- Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly. (Leviticus 19:15)

3. FBI Investigating Radical Terrorists in All 50 States as Threats Hit Peak - Washington Free Beacon

Federal authorities have open investigations into radical Islamic terrorists in all 50 states, according to the Department of Homeland Security, which is warning that the threat of terrorism in the United States has reached an all time high with radicalized individuals in the country plotting to strike "each and every single day."

The FBI has "open terrorist investigations in all 50 states," according to DHS Secretary John Kelly, who disclosed on Tuesday that there have been at least 37 "ISIS-linked plots to attack our country" since 2013, a number that shows no signs of diminishing. (Read more)

- Father, we pray this warning from Secretary Kelly will be heeded by our states and municipalities, especially those who want to maintain a "sanctuary" status. We pray for coordination and effective protection throughout our law enforcement agencies.

- When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. (Ezekiel 33:3-4)

Democrat candidate Jon Ossoff won the most votes in the Georgia special election to replace former Republican Rep. Tom Price in the deep red 6th congressional district, setting off a June runoff election.

Police said the man who killed three people on a shooting spree in downtown Fresno, California, on Tuesday while shouting "Allahu Akbar" wanted to kill as many people as possible after a warrant was released for his arrest in the murder of a motel security guard last week.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, knew he was being searched for and he "decided he was going to kill more people." (Read more)

After a 2-mile chase, "troopers attempted a PIT maneuver to disable Stephens' vehicle...As the vehicle was spinning out of control from the PIT maneuver, Stephens pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head," a state police Facebook statement said. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You this manhunt has come to an end. We continue to pray for all those affected by the horrific actions of Steve Stephens.

Allawi said the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and the head of Al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, are not communicating with each other directly but through intermediaries. "I don't know exactly when, but there are discussions and dialogues between messengers," he said, adding that it's not clear how the two groups will work together. (Read more)

Pence arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday from South Korea and reassured Japan of US commitment to reining in North Korea's nuclear and missile ambitions in a series of meetings with Japanese leaders, including Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Speaking aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, a Nimitz class aircraft carrier currently undergoing scheduled maintenance at its home port of Yokosuka, Pence said US intentions remained unwavering in the face of the threat posed by the reclusive North, which has conducted a series of missile and nuclear tests in defiance of UN sanctions, most recently with a failed missile launch on Sunday. Stupid is as stupid believes

There is a lot written about fools in the Bible. Proverbs 13:20 says, "He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." And Proverbs 1:22 asks, "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge?" Proverbs 16:22 says, "Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it: but the instruction of fools is folly." Ecclesiastes 7:5 tells us, "It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools." The Bible is down on fools. With that as a backdrop, it is amazing how society tolerates foolishness brought on by fools. Of course, many of them are well educated, but that doesn't make them wise.

There are so many headlines in the news these days about crazy stuff. Take for example that the Russians influenced the elections. First the narrative was that the Russians had hacked the election and changed the result. It has now moved to the idea that President Trump and the Russians collaborated to beat Hillary Clinton. In reality, Hillary Clinton beat Hillary Clinton. She was a horrible candidate, unlikable, and a crook. The voters recognized this and they voted. The rest is history. The terrible thing is that over half the voters believe in the same foolish things that Clinton believes. And that is a problem when it comes to the future of our nation. We are raising up foolish children to be foolish adults.

Global warming, for example, now called climate change. The scientists fudged the study data to support the narrative. It was exposed, yet people like Al Gore and other environmentalists still go around saying that we are melting. It is a proven scientific and historic fact that weather is cyclical. I remember when I was in high school that Time and Newsweek were writing alarming cover stories that we were all going to be destroyed by the coming ice age. Same fools, different gig. Other fools say that illegal aliens don't commit any more crimes than citizens. This is factually untrue. By virtue of being illegal, they start out with committing more crimes than the average person. Add in rape, murder, armed robbery and you have real statistics that only a fool can deny.

Islam is a religion of peace-another foolish folly. What other organization enslaves, abuses, and trades in women, children and drugs? What other organization blows up themselves and others in the name of some non-existent god? Where in the world is there this type of violence that is not connected to Islam? Yet the fools think none of this is true. How many times have you discussed these things with someone only to have them say 'I don't think that is true'? Encourage people to seek the truth for themselves. 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." People need to have mature understanding of life, the Holy scriptures, and of God. They need to learn how to put away foolish things because stupid is as stupid believes.

The IS and MS13 sandwich

Edmund Burke is credited with saying "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." This could be applied to the situation developing in the United States that threatens every family. The ex "president" and his cronies, while their "goodness" is certainly questionable, refused to secure our borders, encouraged the harboring of criminals in sanctuary cities, and fomented massive illegal and refugee migration from terrorist-sponsoring nations. In addition, they did nothing, or next to nothing, to enforce laws concerning these individuals. This willful inaction has resulted in American citizens being sandwiched between the outright evil of Islamic State and the lethal MS-13 gang infiltration.

MS-13, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, is an international criminal gang comprised of mostly ethnic Salvadorians that was founded in Los Angeles in the 1980s. Its calling card includes arms smuggling, human and drug trafficking, illegal immigration, murder, prostitution, contract killing, terrorism and various other crimes. The Islamic State (IS) calls itself a worldwide Islamic caliphate. It is comprised of Muslims and is an offshoot of al Qaeda. Its calling card is the same as MS-13. Both recruit online and in areas of high concentrations of immigrant youths, preying on youngsters who illegally come to the US across our porous borders. Reports are that the two often work together and trade the same black markets.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Trump Administration are trying to protect Americans from these evil entities, but have inherited a lethal mess from the previous administration's policies. Sessions recently said, "Because of an open border and years of lax immigration enforcement, MS-13 has been sending both recruiters and members to regenerate gangs that previously had been decimated, and smuggling members across the border as unaccompanied minors." Sessions added that MS-13 is recruiting in America's public schools from as early as the elementary grades and that sanctuary cities undermine efforts to fight the gang. The IS is also well known for claiming credit for attacks against American citizens.

On April 12, four young Hispanic men were brutally tortured and murdered by MS-13 gang members. IS/al Qaeda claimed credit for, or was connected to, terrorist attacks in Little Rock, Ft Hood, Boston, Oklahoma, Queens, Brooklyn, Garland, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, Orlando, St Cloud, New York, Columbus, and quite possibly Fresno. Since 2014, there have been at least 21 attacks on American citizens by radicalized Islamists, many connected to IS. The ex "president" and his policies planted deadly seeds that, like weeds, will choke at the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness from God-fearing Americans. Galatians 6:8 says, "For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Let us not grow weary in sowing to the Spirit that we reap a better harvest.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns:
BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS

"His children shall have a place of refuge." (Proverbs 14:26)

Lyrics

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand, The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land; A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way, From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.

O safe and happy shelter, O refuge tried and sweet, O trysting place where Heaven's love and Heaven's justice meet! As to the holy patriarch that wondrous dream was given, So seems my Savior's cross to me, a ladder up to heaven.

There lies beneath its shadow but on the further side The darkness of an awful grave that gapes both deep and wide And there between us stands the cross two arms outstretched to save A watchman set to guard the way from that eternal grave.

Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me; And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess; The wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face; Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss, My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

The Good News Corner

These Young Professionals Are Transforming Muslim-Majority Central Asia for Christ

If you are a Christian living in any of the five former Soviet Republics of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan or Turkmenistan, you can expect intimidation, harassment - or worse - jail time, for telling others about your faith.

Twenty-five years after the Soviet Union disappeared and these republics gained their independence, the five so-called 'Stan States' have become repressive and hostile towards people of faith. (Photo Credit: CBN News) In fact, in an attempt to crack down on radical Islam, these five countries have enacted laws curtailing the activities of Muslims. But here's the problem: Instead of going after Muslims, these laws have been used against Christians.

Dr. Michael Cherenkov follows religious freedom issues in the former Soviet Union.

"These laws have forced Christians to be more creative and invent new approaches to sharing the Gospel," Cherenkov said.

Cherenkov believes that while churches and Christian organizations raise suspicion, individual relationships go virtually unnoticed.

"We are discovering that being a witness for Christ in the workplace is probably the only safe and effective form of evangelization in the countries of Central Asia," he said.

On a recent Saturday morning, hundreds of young Christians from across the region met for the first-ever Next Generation Professional Leaders Initiative.

The event was the brainchild and dream of Sergey Rakhuba.

"It is not possible to overstate the significance of this gathering when you have in one room over 500 of the key young leaders from across Central Asia," said Rakhuba, who leads Mission Eurasia, an organization that equips young church leaders in 13 countries of the former Soviet Union. He grew up during Soviet times and remembers what it was like as a young Christian trying to discover his purpose in life.

"I was not allowed to study in the universities because I was a Christian," Rakhuba told CBN News. "Throughout the whole territory of the Soviet Union, you could not find even one Christian professor, Christian doctor or Christian lawyer- even the word "business" was a foreign word for Christians at that time."

Rakhuba brought together entrepreneurs, doctors, educators, lawyers and media experts to teach young professionals how to be effective witnesses for Christ in the marketplace.
