The Daily Brief - Friday, December 2, 2011

"I will be their God, and they will be My people." (Ezekiel 37:27)

The Daily Brief

1. Unemployment Rates drop 8.6% with caveat
- Fox News

The unemployment rate fell to 8.6 percent in November, a number that offers the administration a rare piece of good economic news -- but also masks a startling shift in the job market. The Labor Department said Friday that employers added 120,000 jobs last month. With that, the unemployment rate dropped to the lowest level in more than two and a half years. But a key reason for the sharp drop was that hundreds of thousands of people had stopped looking for work, (three times more than those who found jobs). The report showed 487,000 people left the labor force in November -- for the Labor Department's purposes, they were not counted as unemployed.

- Father, we thank You for the 120,000 newly created jobs; however, we are saddened to hear that thousands have stopped looking for work, without having found employment. We pray for those who are discouraged and giving up hope of finding jobs. We ask, Lord, that You would give them creative ideas, and encourage them to not give up. May they be willing and able to take advantage of seasonal employment, and be able to feed their families. We thank You for Your provision for their needs.

- "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

2. Senate Rejects Extending Payroll Tax Cut
-- For Now - Fox News

Senate Republicans on Thursday defeated a plan by the President to renew a temporary cut in the Social Security payroll tax, even as all sides on Capitol Hill continue to promise an eventual compromise on a tax holiday before Congress leaves Washington for Christmas.

- Lord, we sometimes grow so weary of the game of politics, played by politicians wishing to stay in their positions of power. It seems that votes are more important to them than doing what is best for the nation they supposedly serve. We ask, Lord, that You would shine light upon those things done in secret, and hidden in the darkness. May the people clearly see who is doing what, and have Your wisdom to elect those who fear You and do Your will. Amen.

-"This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed."
(John 3:19,20)

3. FBI used outreach programs 'to spy on Muslims' - UK Telegraph

The American Civil Liberties Union issued a report saying the FBI had overstepped its authority and was violating the trust of groups that agreed to meet its agents.

- Abba, we agree that not all Muslims are wishing to do us harm, so we ask for discernment for our FBI and CIA, as they deal with our enemies. We ask that the deeds and intents of the hearts of those who do wish us harm would be revealed, in order to protect our nation and our citizens. We ask that all those who are subversive in their dealings with us would be exposed and dealt with accordingly. We thank You that Your mercies are new every morning, and we thank You for Your divine protection. Amen.

-"Teach me good judgment, wise and right discernment, and knowledge, for I have believed Your commandments. (Psalm 119:66)

4. US Senate OK's sanctions on Iran central bank - Jerusalem Post

The US Senate unanimously approved tougher sanctions against Iran on Thursday, voting to penalize foreign financial institutions that do business with Iran's central bank, the main conduit for its oil revenues.

- Abba, we do thank You for these increased sanctions against Iran, who has sworn to destroy Israel, and us. We ask that these sanctions would be carried out, and would be effective in deterring their evil intentions. O Lord of Hosts, we ask You to defend Your precious little nation of Israel, and prosper them in their defense of their Land. We ask that those who would wish them harm will stumble and fall into their own nets. Amen.

-"They shall stumble over one another as if to escape a sword when no one pursues them; and you shall have no power to stand before your enemies. You shall perish among the nations; the land of your enemies shall eat you up."
(Leviticus 26:37,38)

5. A.)Report: Iran authorities behind attack on U.K. embassy
- Haaretz

The storming of the British embassy in Tehran earlier this week was not an improvised student protest but an attack planned and supervised by Iranian authorities, sources told the Al-Arabiya News Channel on Thursday. The attack was planned by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei and supervised by the commander of the Basij paramilitary forces, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqd, the sources said.

B) Iran diplomats to leave UK after Tehran embassy attack - BBC

Diplomats working at the Iranian embassy in London must leave Britain by Friday afternoon. They must depart by 14:00 GMT. Their expulsion was ordered by Foreign Secretary William Hague after the British embassy in Tehran was stormed. About 120,000 people in the UK hail from Iran, as well as many students.

- - Lord, we have allowed the evil regime of Iran to do anything they want, including attack Western Embassies. We pray that the day of reckoning will come quickly for them. We also pray for Your mercy over the church in Iran.

- "In wrath remember mercy." (Habbakuk 3:2d)

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

""But now many nations are gathered against you. They say, "Let her be defiled, let our eyes gloat over Zion!" But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD; they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor." (Micah 4:11,12)

1. Israel: We'll give up nukes if Iran does same
- Ynet News

Two thirds of Israeli Jews are willing to give up Israel's nuclear weapons in return for Iran giving up its own program, a survey published on Thursday claimed.

2. Israeli defense chief says Israel not seeking to attack Iran, but may have no choice
- Washington Post

Israel does not want to take military action against Iran over its nuclear program, but at some point may have no other option, Israel's defense minister said Thursday.

3. Erekat: PA won't 'back down' from UN statehood bid - Jerusalem Post

The Palestinian Authority "will not back down" from their efforts to become a member of the United Nations, even though the PA has acknowledged that they would not succeed were the Security Council to vote today, senior PA negotiator Saeb Erekat told Ma'an News Agency Thursday.

4. 'Germany approves subsidized sale of military submarine to Israel'

The Daily Jot

First fruits of Arab Spring and America's play in prophecy

The first fruits of the White House-generated democracy drive in the Middle East are in. The results of the election in Egypt were an astounding victory for the Muslim Brotherhood, the terrorist sponsoring, Sharia promoting foreign policy partner of the man who occupies the Oval Office. The initial count shows the Muslim Brotherhood taking 45% of the seats in Egypt's parliament and the even more radical Salafist Muslims taking another 20%. The Washington Post reports that "Tunisia and Morocco have both elected Islamist majorities to parliament, while Libya has yet to announce dates for its first elections, Islamist groups have emerged as a strong force there...they also play a strong opposition role in Yemen."

In short, the US president has engineered a radical Islamic takeover of much of the Middle East in league with sworn enemies of America--the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda. As a result the world will become a much more dangerous place. There will be continuous heightened threat of war. Terrorism will increase. These organizations with which the president has aided and abetted, have sworn to create a "civilization jihad" in the US and to drive Israel into the sea. On November 25, for example, Ynet News reported speakers at a Muslim Brotherhood rally of 5,000 people in Cairo often repeated "one day we'll kill all the Jews," calling them "treacherous," vowing "jihad for the sake of Palestine."

Jesus, speaking of the false prophets in Matthew 7:15, 16 said, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You shall know them by their fruits." The fruits of this president have been more unemployment, more debt, more promotion of homosexuality, more standing against traditional marriage, and now on the foreign policy side using your tax money and the full stature of America to give historical support to the enemies of God. This is likely the most significant foreign policy move since the establishment of Israel as a nation in 1948. These actions at this point in time could very well solidify the Islamic axis that will eventually usher in the antichrist.

Ezekiel 38 says Gog from the land of Magog, price of Meshech and Tubal will lead Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomar, Togarmah against Israel. Verses 15 and 16 say, "And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts...as a cloud to cover the land." Magog, Meshech, Tubal, Gomar and Togarmah are all in the land directly North of Israel--what is now Turkey. Persia is modern day Iran. Ethiopia is Northeastern Africa, including Sudan. Libya is Northwestern Africa. All these are Islamic nations that come against Israel. Gog, according to many well respected Bible teachers, may be the antichrist. And America through its president's foreign policy has moved the prophecy clock forward. First fruits and food for thought.

JAG: THE JUDICIAL ACTION GROUP

ACTION ALERT!

OPPOSING THE NOMINATION OF CAITLIN HALLIGAN TO THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS

The Nomination of Caitlin Halligan the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, and her extreme positions on a variety of issues, amounts to extraordinary circumstances.

A Cloture vote on her nomination is scheduled for 12:00 ON TUESDAY (12/6) - we recommend asking all Senators to vote 'no' on cloture.

Halligan has expressed concerning opinions on a wide variety of controversial issues including:

- The death penalty (even filing an amicus brief in Roper v. Simmons)
- Individual rights under the Second Amendment
- Same Sex 'Marriage'
- The War on Terror (approving a NYC Bar Association report she now attempts to disown)
- Abortion
- Affirmative Action
- Immigration

Our letter to Senators covers several of these issues, more information can be found on our website by going here.

Nominees to the DC District Court are typically subjected to a heighted degree of scrutiny, one that Caitlin Halligan does not even begin to satisfy. As such she should be opposed on any vote taken by the Senate, including the cloture vote scheduled for Tuesday.

Key Senators to contact include: (Republicans) Graham, Brown, Murkowski, Kirk, Collins, and Snowe; (Democrats) Tester, Pryor, McCaskill, and Manchin.

- Ask the LORD to create a "suddenly" groundswell of opposition to the nomination of this woman to sit as a judge in our nation's capital -- the District of Christ.

"Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power." (Psalm 110:3 NAS)

- Pray that only the man or woman of God's choosing would be seated as a judge in the District of Christ.

- "By Me kings reign, and rulers decree justice." (Proverbs 8:15)

CPC, FRC Petition Supreme Court

Prayer Caucus Members join Supreme Court brief supporting legislative prayer

On November 30, 2011, 15 Prayer Caucus Members joined the Family Research Council in submitting an amicus curiae brief to the Supreme Court, asking the Court to reverse a decision by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Joyner v. Forsyth County, which held that the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners' prayer policy was unconstitutional. In July 2011, the Fourth Circuit held that the Board's practice of allowing visiting clergy to open meetings with an invocation violated the Establishment Clause because the prayers too often mentioned "Jesus." The county's prayer policy was based on a model prayer policy used by other city and county councils throughout the country that has been upheld by four other federal courts that have reviewed the matter since 2009. However, the Fourth Circuit held that in order to be constitutional, such prayers must not be "too sectarian." The amicus curiae brief asks the Supreme Court to take up the case and overturn the Fourth Circuit's decision, in hopes that the Court will bring the ruling into alignment with decisions of other federal courts and our nation's historic legacy of permitting such prayer. From the brief:

"Using a 'sectarian' yardstick to measure the constitutionality of legislative prayers is highly problematic because (i) all prayers are 'sectarian' to some degree, and (ii) establishing a 'cutoff' point where prayers become 'too sectarian' draws the courts into a thicket where they must make religious judgments, a task for which they are ill-equipped. Another approach must be found."

In 1774, the first act of the First Continental Congress was to ask a minister to open with prayer. Members of the Prayer Caucus are working to preserve the right of legislative bodies across the nation to continue that important tradition.

- Pray that this petition will find favor with the Court, and that the right of legislative bodies across the nation to continue this important tradition will be preserved.

- "Then I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning; After that you will be called the city of righteousness, A faithful city."
(Isaiah 1:26)

The Good News Corner:

Live Nativity Scene to be Displayed in Front of U.S. Supreme Court

"The Nativity Project is a reminder that our Constitution provides freedom 'of' religion not freedom 'from' religion. By encouraging people of good will to publicly display Nativity Scenes all across America, we are not only supporting religious liberty and First Amendment freedoms but we are loudly proclaiming the powerful message of Christmas." -Rev. Patrick Mahoney
The Nativity Scene, sponsored by Faith and Action and The Christian Defense Coalition, was held on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:30 A.M.

The groups will met right behind the Supreme Court, then had a processional with the live animals and actors, in front of the Supreme Court and past the U.S. Capitol Building, ending back where they began.

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states, "Sadly, we are seeing an erosion and hostility toward public expressions of faith in the public square. This is especially true during the Christmas season. . . .

"That timeless message needs to be heard now more than ever: 'Peace on earth and goodwill toward man.'

"Our hope and prayer is that many will secure permits, as we did in front of the Supreme Court, to display nativity scenes in front of public buildings all across our nation and also to place them on the lawns of their homes."

Rev. Rob Schenck, President of Faith and Action, adds, "The traditional creche, portraying Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child, along with angels, shepherds, Wise Men and animals, remind us of what Christmas is all about.

"The fact that we have been granted a permit to hold this 'Live Nativity Scene' in front of the Supreme Court ensures the right for every American to set up these public displays in communities all across America. (Source: Breaking Christian News)
