1. HAMAS STRIKES ISRAEL WITH 50 MORTARS

Wins Cairo's Recognition

Israelis living near Gaza woke up Saturday, March 19, to the most massive mortar attack in years - 50 rounds fired in 15 minutes. Two civilians were injured and substantial damage caused to property. Hamas has unusually claimed responsibility, emboldened by the support it has won from a new ally, Egypt, which is also forging new ties with Syria - and the Netanyahu government's disregard of the changing winds blowing in from Egypt including Cairo's de facto recognition of Hamas rule in Gaza.

The Netanyahu government has not informed the Israeli public about the ominous new winds blowing in from Cairo although they are already in motion: Cairo has given Hamas rule of the Gaza Strip de facto recognition, is about to lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip and is forging new understandings with Damascus and the Palestinian Hamas and Islamic Jihad radicals based there.

According to debkafile's Cairo sources, the live wire behind the Egyptian policy U-turn is the new foreign minister Nabil Alaraby. Only two weeks on the job, the first tasks he set himself were to lift the Egyptian-Israeli embargo on the Gaza Strip, reopen the Fatah crossing to free passage of people and goods, downgrade relations with Israel and the Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas, and open a new page with Syria. (DebkaFiile) Read more.

- While the world is being told that democracy has arrived in Egypt, another agenda is taking place, one that is not mentioned by either our president or our media. Egypt is no longer protecting the southern border with Israel. As Christian intercessors, we were not fooled by the revolution and knew that trouble was brewing for Israel.

Please pray that the Lord will cause Israel's southern border to be sealed from Hamas. Ask the Lord to remove Egypt's new foreign minister Alaraby from office and replace him with someone who is sympathetic to Israel. The new Foreign Minister must honor the treaty that Egypt made with Israel under Sadat and that was then kept under Mubarak. Pray that these rockets will boomerang back on Hamas, wherever they are and do no damage to Israel, nor bring death anywhere.

- "But do not fear, O My servant Jacob, and do not be dismayed, O Israel! For Behold, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from their captivity, Jacob shall return, have rest, and be at ease. No one shall make him afraid." (Jeremiah 46:27)

2. NAVY: ANTI-SHIP MISSILES, FARSI MANUAL FOUND ON SEZIED VESSEL

Israel Defense Forces [IDF] commandoes who seized the "Victoria" vessel some 200 nautical miles [230 normal miles or 370 kilometers] off Israel's coast found 50 tons of weapons in containers that were meant to hold cotton and lentils, roughly the same amount that was found on the Karin A [a Palestinian ship seized in 2002], the army said Tuesday evening [March 15].

During a briefing on the takeover of the Gaza-bound ship, Deputy Navy Commander Rear Admiral Rani Ben-Yehuda said the Iranian ships that had crossed the Suez Canal a few weeks ago were connected to the arms smuggling attempt.

"This morning a Shayatet 13 vessel identified-some 200 miles off Israel's coast-a ship that was making its way from the Turkish port of Mersin to the Alexandria port in Egypt. The [IDF] force questioned the captain of the ship regarding the ship's destination and cargo, and following an initial examination of the vessel's route, which showed that it docked in a Turkish port and prior to that in a port in Beirut, the force asked to conduct a more thorough check of the ship. He fully cooperated," Ben-Yehuda told reporters.

"Everything was conducted in accordance with international law and the procedure pertaining to vessels that are suspected of carrying illegal cargo. The prime minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] and the defense minister [Ehud Barak] authorized the operation," he said.

According to the Navy, soldiers who searched the ship found numerous 60 and 120-millimeter mortar shells, as well as two to four Chinese-made C-704 anti-ship missiles with a 35-kilometer [22-mile] range. Had they reached Gaza, the missiles would have threatened Israeli sea-based strategic installations and navy vessels, Ben-Yehuda said.

He added that weapons were smuggled from Iran to Syria, where the ship collected them on its way to Turkey and then sailed to Egypt. Ben-Yehuda also presented a Farsi-language manual for the missiles found among the vessel's cargo, which apparently links Iran to the arms smuggling attempt. He stressed that he is convinced that neither Turkey nor Egypt knew what was hidden on the Victoria. (YnetNews)

- Praise God that these weapons were discovered. Pray that God will continue to favor Israel's security forces with wisdom and discernment.

- "Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory . . . He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God." (Psalm 98:1, 3)

3. MINISTER HOPES IMAGES OF MASSACRE WILL SHOCK WORLD

The debate over the publication of pictures from the scene of the massacre in Itamar, which include explicit pictures of the murdered children's bodies, continues: Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein said Monday, "I want journalists and editorial staff to deal with those pictures." He added that the shocking pictures of the five murder victims [parents Ruthie and Udi and three of their six children-Yoav (11), Elad (4) and baby Hadas] may influence global public opinion.

During the debate, the minister explained why he believes the pictures should be published. "Let those who already have a fixed image of the conflict between the countries or the nations who can't seem to reach an agreement over a piece of land see the pictures of the three-month-old baby; maybe then they will understand that their image is distorted." (Ynet News)

- Pray that God will comfort and heal this family. Pray for the grandmother as she takes on the unexpected responsibility of raising three more children. Pray that God will be merciful to Tamar and heal her of the horrific images she saw of her murdered family.

- "The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:2-3)

4. IDF, SETTLERS SAVE ARAB BABY IN ITAMAR

After massacre, settlers help bring new life into world: Israel Defense Forces [IDF] and local paramedics helped save the life of a Palestinian woman and her newly born infant Wednesday [March 16] at the settlement where Fogel relatives are sitting shiva [seven-day mourning period] for the five Israelis [from the Fogel family] brutally murdered last week.

Just as IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz arrived in Neve Tzuf to offer his condolences, a Palestinian cab raced towards the community's entrance. In it, soldiers and paramedics discovered a Palestinian woman in her 20s in advanced stages of labor and facing a life-threatening situation: The umbilical cord was wrapped around the young baby girl's neck, endangering both her and her mother.

The quick action of settler paramedics and IDF troops deployed in the area saved the mother's and baby's life, prompting great excitement and emotions at the site where residents are still mourning the brutal death of five local family members.

Corporal Haim Levin, 19, an IDF paramedic, was the first medical team member at the scene and recounted the dramatic situation he faced. "When I arrived, I saw a woman covered by a blanket in a yellow Palestinian van. I moved closer and saw the baby's head and upper body," he told Ynet. "The umbilical cord was around the baby's neck; the baby was grey and didn't move."

"I first removed the cord from the neck and at the same time asked paramedics to prepare the baby resuscitation kit. I pinched her to see if she's responding, and she started to cry," he said. Paramedics also treated the mother, who was in good condition at that point, Levin said.

Meanwhile, ambulance driver Orly Shlomo raced to the scene. "We joined the military paramedic and helped him cut off the umbilical cord . . . without the medical treatment, the fetus and woman faced genuine life danger," she told Ynet. "It was touching, but I couldn't help but think that a few meters from there, people were sitting shiva for another baby [three months old], who was murdered," she said. "I was touched to see the face of the new baby, but I also thought about the face of the murdered baby."

The paramedic noted that on the day of the Fogel massacre, settlers saw fireworks and celebrations in nearby Palestinian communities, but added that the local medical team is committed to assisting anyone in need. "Two years ago, we also made sure to treat a terrorist who attempted to place a bomb on the road and was shot by soldiers," he said.

Palestinians from the nearby village of Nabi Salah gathered around the paramedics along with the new grandmother and could not hide their joy. "They thanked us and told us they named the girl Jude," Corporal Levin said. "I volunteered for Magen David Adom since age 15, and it's the first time I witnessed childbirth. It was an amazing feeling to hold the girl that was just born in my arms and to know that in this complex place we did something good."

- Praise God for bringing hope and a measure of redemption from this tragic incident. Pray that the nations will take note that whereas Palestinians were celebrating over an Israeli family's murder, Israelis were, without malice in their hearts, bringing forth new life for those who hate them.

- "He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will become known." (Proverbs 10:9)

5. BEIRUT RALLY DRAWS "HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS" DEMANDING HIZBOLLAH DISARM

An overwhelming outpouring of Lebanese from throughout the country jammed the streets of Beirut on Sunday [March 13] to demand that Hizbullah disarm and to show support for the United Nations Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) [investigating the assassination of a former prime minister].

. . . given the massive turnout, it became the most compelling indication to date of the depth of opposition to Hizbullah's "intimidation by arms," the charge that it uses Israel as an excuse to maintain its vast arsenal but, in fact, uses the arsenal to intimidate and force its way in domestic politics. The Hizbullah arsenal also places Lebanon squarely in violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which allows only the government to bear arms.

The demonstration adds fuel to the pending confrontation that many believe will explode when the STL hands down indictments in the matter of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Hariri, Sa'ad's father. Hizbullah agents are expected to be named and Hizbullah chief Na'srallah has threatened a violent response when it happens.

(Excerpts of an article by The Media Line, March 14, 2011) [ Reported by: Bridges for Peace]

- In His time, God will judge Hizbullah. Pray for the 39% in Lebanon who are Christians and want to disarm Hizbullah. Pray for their safety, as they and others take a bold stand against violence and terrorism.

- "Indeed, what have you to do with Me, O Tyre and Sidon [Lebanon] and all the coasts of Philistia [Gaza]? Will you retaliate against Me? But if you retaliate against Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your retaliation upon your own head." (Joel 3:4)

1. DEATH TOLL FROM DISASTERS OVER 8,400

Teenager and 80-Year-Old Grandmother Rescued on Sunday

Japan hoped power restored to its stricken nuclear plant may help solve the world's worst atomic crisis in 25 years, triggered by an earthquake and tsunami that also left more than 21,000 people dead or missing. Official tolls of dead and missing are rising steadily -- to 8,450 and 12,931 respectively on Monday. They could jump dramatically since police said they believed more than 15,000 people had been killed in Miyagi prefecture, one of four that took the brunt of the tsunami.

Scores of nations have pledged aid to victims, but little is visible in many devastated towns and villages. "All we have had is the clothes on our backs. But they are good enough. They've kept us warm through all of this," said Machiko Kawahata as she, her daughter and granddaughter looked for clothes at a drop-off point in Kamaishi, a coastal town. "We will make do and we will make it through this."

In one bit of good news from the rubble, An 80-year-old woman and her teenage grandson were rescued Sunday in northeastern Japan when the youth was able to pull himself out of their flattened two-story house nine days after the devastating earthquake and tsunami. Jin Abe, 16, was seen calling out for help from the roof of the collapsed home in the hard-hit city of Ishinomaki, according to the Miyagi Prefectural Police. Like other homes in northeastern Japan, they had lost electricity and telephone service in the March 11 earthquake. He led them inside to his 80-year-old grandmother, Sumi Abe. Both were conscious but weak, and had survived on the food they had in their refrigerator, said Shizuo Kawamura of the Ishinomaki police department.

The 9.0-magnitude quake and ensuing 10-meter high tsunami made more than 350,000 people homeless. (Reuters, Fox News)

- We want to thank all who have been fasting and praying this weekend on behalf of the people of Japan. Clearly, their needs will be severe for many days, weeks, and months to come; but we do have a God who sees and who answers prayer. Please continue, in prayer, for Japan.

- "He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them. He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him." (Psalm 72:12-14)

2. UPDATE ON FUKUSHIMA REACTORS

The following are main developments after a massive earthquake and tsunami devastated northeast Japan and crippled a nuclear power station, raising the risk of uncontrolled radiation.

- Engineers have attached a power cable to the No. 1 and No. 2 reactors, and hope to restore electricity on Sunday prior to an attempt to switch the pumps on. Additionally, they aim to reach No. 3 and 4 later in the day.

- IAEA says unclear whether water pumps will work.
- Japan government spokesman says some stabilization at the most critical No.3 reactor. Engineers meanwhile are using diesel generators for less critical reactors No. 5 and No.6 reactors.
- Temperature in spent fuel pools at reactors No. 5 and 6 returning to normal.
- Tests detect radiation above the national safety level in spinach and milk produced near the Fukushima plant. (Reuters)
- Continue to pray that the engineers at the Fukushiima facility would be completly successful in all their endeavors to contain this disaster; and that the people be supernaturally kept safe from the effects of any radiation that leaks out. Pray that the winds blow to the EAST, out to the Pacific Ocean. Pray!

- So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" (Matthew 8:27)

UPDATE: Word has just reached our office that FIVE of the men who are working at the Fukushima reactor ARE believers! Please lift up a MIGHTY PRAYER for supernatural deliverance for each one from danger, and that the Gospel may yet be shared with the others who are desperately working on site tonight to forestall a greater catastrophe. Praise God!!!

- " . . . if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them . . ." (Mark 16:18)

3. NUKE PLANT CHIEF WEEPS

The boss of the company behind the devastated Japanese nuclear reactor today broke down in tears - as his country finally acknowledged the radiation spewing from the over-heating reactors and fuel rods was enough to kill some citizens.

To track today's news about this reactor, go here.

- Thank the Lord that He is moving upon the heart of TEPCO's President Masataka Shimizu, helping him to overcome pride and to admit his need for help.

As his company now faces a challenge of unprecedented magnitude, ask that Mr. Shimizu not fall into despair, but find comfort in the knowledge of our Savior. Ask our Lord to raise up a man who can come across his path in this desperate hour, bringing the good news of Christ Jesus into his life. Amen.

- In the complex world of nuclear engineering, the Fukushima Reactor stands out as a kind of "Titanic." It was supposed to trumpet all the most modern advances and safety procedures, but to no avail.

Now, almost 100 years after the sinking of the Titanic, we are witnessing another "sinking" of SIX NUCLEAR REACTORS at the Fukushima site. Pray that man will give up his pride, and turn to the only One who can save us. Pray for the salvation of many souls as a result of this shaking in Japan.

- "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)

4. ONE MAN'S BLOG: PRAY FOR JAPAN

A pastor whose Global Mission Center is very near the Fukushima site, Pastor Yoshitaka Ikarashi, has posted daily reports on his blog so that we can all track what is happening over there in detail, and pray for those who are affected. Please visit his site by going here.

5. BRIDGES FOR PEACE JAPAN REQUESTS PRAYER

[This news comes to us this weekend from our good friends at Bridges for Peace.]

Our hearts have been heavy as we view the horrific events in Japan over the last week. Much prayer has been lifted to the Father from our team. Many of our friends around the world have been asking for an update from our Japan office. On Tuesday [March 15], we had our first e-mail from Atsumi Takada, our national sirector in Japan. She wrote:

"Dear Becky,

"We are thankful for your earnest prayers. Japan is currently in the middle of a disaster never experienced before. The nuclear plant in Fukushima Prefecture stopped working, a fire broke out in the thermal power generator, and Japan does not have sufficient electricity. While the nation is preparing to implement rolling blackouts, this would mean a halt to the public railway system, greatly influencing everyone across Japan. In addition, without sufficient electricity, there is a possibility of water and gas also being stopped, thus putting all lifelines on hold. The metropolitan Tokyo area is enveloped in quiet anxiety.

"At the same time, since the major earth plate in east Japan was shifted, there are many big aftershocks. Because everyone is scrambling to stock supplies in preparation for a possible disaster in the future, and because distributors are not able to function smoothly, the shelves of supermarkets and convenience stores are practically bare. While Japan is currently doing its best to remain calm, we are praying that a panic will not arise from a secondary disaster with the lifelines cut in the future.

"There are some dear people among us who are unable to contact people or have actually become victims of this disaster, and our hearts are torn. Those that have taken refuge are living without hope and need everyone's prayers. We appreciate your continued prayers for Japan. . . .

Our Japan staff has now contacted most of the pastors connected with Bridges for Peace Japan. In Japan, all of the Bridges for Peace Chai Israel prayer groups are headed by pastors. From these conversations, we now know that 80-90% of our BFP Japan family are accounted for and safe. Some face significant difficulties of which we are not fully aware at this point. The pastors are reaching out to the community to meet basic needs and share the good news of God's love in the midst of this tragedy. The pastors are very tired, and we need to pray that God will give them strength.

Atsumi Takada is requesting our prayers for Japan and for BFP Japan at this time. Here are his requests:

1. Pray for the churches and pastors as they reach out to minister to the needs of the people.
2. Of particular crisis is the shortage of food and fuel. Fuel shortages are the most critical because without fuel, there is no way to get food and water to the devastated areas.
3. Pray for the nuclear situation to be contained. There is much fear of nuclear contamination over wide areas of Japan.
4. Pray for the suffering people who survived the tsunami and earthquake and are now without home, electricity, food and are suffering from the cold. About 500,000 people are in shelters.
5. Pray for the Bridges for Peace office and staff as well during this trying and fearful time.
6. Pray that the Japanese people will turn to God and we will see a great move of God there.

Less than one/half of one percent of the population is Christian.

Pray also for our ministry in Israel which is facing the possibility of reduced income from Japan over the next few months. Japan is 22% of our worldwide budget. Please pray with us that God will supply the funds to continue our ministry in Israel from other sources for the time being. In addition, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa have also faced significant natural disasters and continue to need our prayers.

We have all been reminded of the promise in Isaiah 43:1-3. Yes, we know that God will be with us as we face various trials. Please pray Psalm 91 over all of Bridges for Peace, our boards, staff, supporters, and families. "Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world."

1. US, UK SHIPS FIRE 112 TOMAHAWKS OVER LIBYAN TARGETS

Qaddafi's Compound Destroyed as No-Fly Zone is Enforced

Twenty French fighter jets destroyed a number of tanks in Benghazi Saturday, March 19, in the first shots of the Western-Arab operation authorized by the UN Security Council 1973 against Muammar Qaddafi, soon joined by British jet fighters. After the US stated it would not take part in the first action or send troops, a US submarine and UK warships fired 112 Tomahawk missiles at 20 Libyan targets east of Tripoli, among them the Libyan army's supreme command center.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the US would provide the coalition operation with support by its "unique assets." This is the first time in 25 years, that the US had attacked the Qaddafi regime. The mission is under the operational control of the US Africa command. Libya State TV says coalition attacks have killed civilians. debkafile's military sources report that during the last 24 hours, Qaddafi has dispersed thousands of his soldiers and diehard loyalists at military sites liable to be struck from the air or sea. (DebkaFile) Read more

- As our Christian friends are now reporting (see below), Libya has moved from a dictatorship into a state of anarchy. While the missiles fall, ask our Lord to place His angels over all who are innocent civilians in this besieged country. Pray that, in the end, all of this action not be used as a precursor for the development of a government ruled by Sharia law, or one that is under the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood. Pray!

- "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

2. CONCERNS OVER LIBYA'S CHRISTIANS AS ALLIES LAUNCH MILITARY ACTION

As violence spread mission group Arab World Ministries said Libya's often tiny churches, including evangelical home churches, need "a spirit of boldness in this chaotic time" amid concerns over the future of the troubled North African country. It was not immediately clear what impact the fighting would have on Christians, who under Gadhafi face harassment at times or are banned from sharing their faith with Moslems, missionaries and rights activists have said.

Before the latest developments, Arab World Ministries already announced it has asked believers around the world to pray for Libya's small Christian community, comprising about 2.5 percent of the North African country's mainly Sunni Muslim population of roughly 6.6 million people.

Christians were also believed to be among those hiding in shelters in Benghazi, amid reports of relentless fighting in the area. As fighting continued, Christian groups expressed concern about Libya's future. "We don't know how this is going to end up, but we have a window of opportunity now for a few weeks, months--maybe years--that we can go in with the Gospel with this new-found freedom," Pederson said, speaking about devoted Christians. "However, we've gone from dictatorship to anarchy, and we don't know where it's going to end." (BosNewsLife) Read more.

- Praise the Lord that He does promise to watch over His own. Come into agreement that the Lord God Almighty would loose His angelic host to stand watch over these precious saints, as we ask Him to do so. And may they be yet bold in their witness for Christ in Libya, while time remains to preach the gospel to the lost. In His Name, we pray, amen.

- "He will give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways." (Psalm 91:11)

3. LIBYA HALTS CHRISTIAN TELEVISION BROADCASTING

Additionally, Christian television channel Sat-7 has reported that its broadcast signal has been blocked by the Libyan government since protests began last month against Gadhafi's four-decade rule.

Another Christian broadcaster, 'Heralding Christ Jesus' Blessings' (HCJB) experienced similar problems but said it is still reaching Christians and others in Libya through a satellite system from Europe. "The satellite provider we have from Europe beaming into North Africa has been able to stay on the air," said HCJB Global President Wayne Pederson. "Other satellite signals have been blocked, but the Lord has enabled us, for our radio signal, to continue 24/7 into the households of North Africa and the Middle East at this time." (BosNews) Read more.

- Pray that God would make a way where there seems to be no way for the believers in Libya to hear the Good News, and to be strengthened in the hope that is our faith. Amen.

- "I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." (Isaiah 42:16)

4. EGYPT: PARTIAL VOTING RESULTS SHOW REFERENDUM PASSING

Partial results from a third of Egypt's provinces Sunday showed massive turnout and a vote overwhelmingly in favor of constitutional changes that eliminate restrictions on political rights and civil liberties. The count from most of the country, including Cairo, was still to be released. But according to results issued by judges at their respective polling centers, 11 of 29 provinces showed 65 to 90 percent of voters saying "yes" to the changes, which would allow parliament and presidential vote no later than September.

Opponents feared the referendum's passage would allow the highly organized Muslim Brotherhood to dominate Egypt's dozens of new political parties in the presidential and parliamentary vote. The partial, preliminary results also showed 70 percent turnout at many polling centers, a massive showing after decades of political apathy in response to repression. (Fox News)

- Praise the Lord for what seems to be a positive response to the Egyptian referendum. Also many thanks to those who prayed for this response from Friday's Daily Brief, and we must continue to keep the blood line of Jesus Christ around the Moslem Brotherhood so that it does not gain dominance in Egypt and destroy the hopes of the people for democracy. Pray for wisdom for the voters and for the leadership in Egypt as the people struggle to establish a freer society. Decree that violence will no longer be the rule of the day but that order will dominate.

- "Revive me [Egypt], O Lord, for Your name's sake! For Your righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. In Your mercy cut off my enemies. . . " (Psalm 143: 11,12a)

5. SAUDI ARABIA SENDS TROOPS TO BAHRAIN

Saudi Arabian intervention in Bahrain driven by visceral Sunni fear of Shias Despite the official stance that the Saudis and UAE troops had arrived to guard essential infrastructure and restore order on the streets, there was little doubt as to the real purpose: to put down, by whatever means necessary, a growing rebellion by the kingdom's majority, but deprived, Shia citizens. It is impossible to exaggerate the level of paranoia that exists in the minds of Sunni Arabs about the threat from Shia Islam and its homeland - Iran.

Even the most well-educated and progressive of Gulf Arabs believe that Bahrain's uprising is being organised by Tehran and that the protesters are fifth columnists for a regime of ayatollahs. Saudi Arabia the paranoia is all-embracing. With a sizeable Shia population, mainly in the key oil-producing east, any assertion of Shia rights is exaggerated into an insurrection. So the Saudis watched in panic as the opposition in Bahrain grew more audacious. . . (By William Butler; UK Guardian) Read more

Bahrain rounds up dissident leaders

Bahrain rounded up dissidents on Thursday as it came under mounting diplomatic pressure to end a bloody crackdown on Shiite-led protesters which has alarmed its ally the United States and infuriated Iran. Five hardline Shiite activists and one Sunni were arrested during the night, a parliamentarian from the Shiite opposition alliance said, after a day of violence which left five dead in the Sunni-ruled kingdom. Among those detained was Hassan Mashaima, a leader of the hardline Shiite Haq group which is seeking to overthrow the Sunni monarchy that has ruled the Shiite-majority island state for 230 years.

Obama, whose country is a close ally of Bahrain, called King Hamad to express "deep concern," while British Prime Minister David Cameron urged the king to pursue "reform, not repression." The protesters are demanding a constitutional monarchy, the resignation of the government and an end to repression and corruption. More radical Shiite elements like Haq want a republic.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described the situation in Bahrain as "alarming" and criticised the Gulf states' military deployment as "the wrong track." Bahrain is the home of the US Fifth Fleet and has become a major regional financial hub as its seeks to diversify its economy away from a reliance on diminishing oil reserves. (Breitbart) Read more.

- Pray for order to be restored to Bahrain immediately without violence and for Iran to be unable to influence the people of this small island country. Such a display of violence has rarely been seen in Bahrain, which is one reason that the US has a large naval base on the island. The presence of the US navy has been a stabilizing influence on the area and allows oil to move from the Gulf states to the world. Pray that the Sunni sheikh will follow Britain's advice and establish reform without fear. Ask the Lord to protect the US citizens living in Bahrain, both on the naval base and on the island..

- "Send forth Your light and truth, let them guide me [Bahrain]." (Psalm 43:3)

6. THE UNION FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN AND BIBLE PROPHECY

Union for the Mediterranean: Revives to meet the challenges of a New Middle East

Dr. David Reagan wrote in his book entitled, Europe In Bible Prophecy:

"The most important prophetic development of the 20th Century was the regathering of the Jewish people to their historic homeland in the Middle East, resulting in the creation of the state of Israel on May 14, 1948. The second most important development was the formation of a European confederation known as The European Union. Both of these momentous historical events point to the fact that we are living in the end times, right on the threshold of the Tribulation and the Lord's return."

Upon reviewing a map of the Union for the Mediterranean nations in comparison with a map of the Roman empire at or about the time of Christ 2000 years ago, those who study Bible prophecy can not help but to be amazed at the similarity.

One possible obstacle holding back full implementation of the emergence of the revived Roman Empire, is competition from another set of nations vying for world power, wealth and domination. Caroline Glick in her recent article entitled, "The New Middle East," points out that the Iranian regime is the main benefactor of the New Middle East that is taking shape due to long-developed ties and connections with opposition figures that give the Iranians the ability to influence the policies of post-revolutionary allied regimes. She predicts a very dark future should there be an Iranian takeover: "If the mullahs aren't overthrown, the New Middle East will be a very dark and dangerous place."

Israel is like a banner to the world that the Word of God is the truth, and Jerusalem as prophesied by Zechariah will be a burdensome stone to all the nations who attempt division or conquest of her. (The Examiner) Read more.

- Offer praise that, in these uncertain times, the Bible stands as the herald of truth and points the way to our future. For those who know Him, this will be glorious; please intercede that many others, today, might find our Lord as their own personal Savior. He has come for His harvest. Amen.

- "Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief." (1 Thess. 5:1-4)

1. OBAMA STILL STALLING

You may recall that Virginia's Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, filed a challenge against the constitutionality of ObamaCare's individual mandate. In December, a federal judge in Richmond, Virginia, agreed with Cuccinelli and declared the individual mandate unconstitutional.

Other district courts have reached different conclusions. Given that ObamaCare will most likely be decided by the Supreme Court, Cuccinelli petitioned the high court to take up his case against the individual mandate now, rather than waiting for it to go through the tedious appeals process.

On Monday the Obama Administration filed a brief with the Supreme Court asking that it refuse to hear any requests for an expedited trial of ObamaCare. The administration has two reasons to drag out the legal fight for as long as possible.

First, the longer it can delay a final decision, the more time the bureaucracy will have to get the socialized medicine scheme put into place. Second, while he will never say this publicly, Obama also wants to delay a hearing in the hopes that a vacancy will open up among one of the five center-right Supreme Court justices.

Such an opportunity would allow Obama to appoint a third justice, who would likely become the fifth vote for a new liberal majority on the Supreme Court. (Gary Bauer)

- Father, we thank You for separation and division of powers in our government. It was for such a time as these. We ask for Your help to get through this time. We ask You to correct the error of our ways, and for justice and peace in our justice system.

- "Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness." (Hebrews 3:8)

2. OBAMA SUPPORTS LEGISLATION TO LET STATES OUT OF HEALTH CARE LAW

Obama announced support for legislation that would let states opt out of the health law earlier than planned. If such a measure passed, the nation's governors would still be forced to deliver on the law's goals. And that's why congressional Republicans don't see Obama's remarks to the National Governor's Association as progress. They don't see any change: The states would be implementing a law that GOP governors and lawmakers insist is a federal takeover of the health care system.

Obama told the governors, who were in Washington for their winter meeting, that he backs a "reasonable" bill (S 248) sponsored by Democratic Sens. Ron Wyden of Oregon and Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana and Republican Sen. Scott P. Brown of Massachusetts. The measure would allow states to seek waivers from the law sooner than 2017, which is now the earliest date under which they can set up systems different from the federal approach. The waivers would be in effect for five years and could be renewed. (Congress.org)

- Father, sometimes calls to action come in unexpected forms. We thank you for the leadership of our states, and for room to see how widespread discontent with the new health care law is. We ask You to guard the steps of state leaders, and may they not walk into traps. Lead us to clearly see, define, and trust You, even still, in how to address the system's problems. May the cure not be more deadly than the disease.

- "I would hasten my escape From the windy storm and tempest." (Psalm 55:8)

3. MCCONNELL SAYS OBAMACARE WORSE THAN ANYONE EXPECTED

The leader of the Republicans in the United States Senate, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, blasted ObamaCare in a press release on Thursday saying that it is worse than anyone expected. As of today, over half of the states are suing over the constitutionality over ObamaCare. Twenty-four other states have joined Florida's lawsuit and Virginia and Oklahoma have their separate lawsuits for a total of 27 states suing against ObamaCare.

Judge Roy Vinson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida declared that the entire ObamaCare law is unconstitutional in the Florida v. HHS lawsuit. The Obama administration ignored Judge Vinson's ruling and has gone ahead with its plans to implement its socialized medicine scheme which a large majority of Americans still oppose on the first anniversary of the passage of ObamaCare. Judge Vinson just recently forced the Obama administration to appeal the case on fast-track to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals . . .

In his press release . . . Republican Leader McConnell urges repeal of ObamaCare and passage of commonsense healthcare reforms. Senator McConnell says: "Taken together, all these broken promises illustrate why so many Americans continue to support a full repeal - which the new Republican-led House has passed - followed by commonsense reforms that will actually lower costs, improve care, and protect jobs." (Christian Coalition of America) Read more.

- Father, we repent of the error in our ways and in our leaders. We thank you for the increasing clarity over the situation with our health care system, and the government's involvement in it. We also thank you for courageous leaders willing to step up and call the situation as they see it, both in the judicial and legislative branches. Amplify their voice, and make their words effective.

- "He will even deliver one who is not innocent." (Job 22:30)

4. HOUSE PASSES ANOTHER STOPGAP BILL

The House of Representatives passed another short-term stopgap spending bill to keep the government functioning for the next three weeks. But this time the continuing resolution faced considerable opposition from House conservatives, 54 of whom voted against the bill because, in their view, it cut too little ($6 billion) and avoided tough decisions.

Among those leading the conservative opposition was Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN). I commend Rep. Pence and other House conservatives for their principled stand. They are right to demand more spending restraint because it is immoral to burden our children with such crippling debt. It is immoral to bankrupt their future standard of living. Massive debt is a threat to economic growth and a threat to our national security.

Conservatives need to fight to accomplish as much as they can. Deciding how best to accomplish that is not an easy task. The reality in Washington is that conservatives cannot govern the country from the House alone. Harry Reid still controls the Senate, and Obama can veto any bill that passes Congress. (Gary Bauer; Excerpt)

- Father, we thank You for the clear will in Washington to cut spending. This is a miraculous gift from You all by itself. We ask You for a strategy to complete the process and make these cuts lasting and long term, even beyond the current fiscal year. We especially ask for the defunding of that largest of abortion providers, Planned Parenthood. If those responsible for spending extend from April 8 to April 15 to finish negotiations, may that CR have just one more cut, and may Planned Parenthood be it. Make it so, Lord!

- "Your covenant with death will be annulled." (Isaiah 28:18)

5. HOUSE VOTES TO STRIP FUNDING FOR NPR

The Republican-dominated House on Thursday voted to block taxpayer funding for National Public Radio programming, dealing another blow to the broadcasting network that already is reeling from a yearlong series of missteps.

Though the bill is not likely to pass the Senate and the White House issued a statement opposing the bill, it marks another black eye for NPR, which saw its chief executive officer and its top fundraising executive resign earlier this month after being filmed denigrating conservatives and the tea party.

"We've see NPR and its programming often veer far from what Americans would like to see as far as the expenditure of their taxpayer dollars," said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican. "Nobody is on a rampage; nobody is trying to say that we don't like NPR for NPR's sake. We've seen how they spend their money. It's time to prioritize. . ." (Christian Coalition of America)

- Father, we thank You for the gift of radio itself and it's relatively recent invention. We know faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. We ask that our radio waves be filled with Your Word and Your glory. We know the problem on our radio waves is not limited to those publicly funded establishments, but plenty in the private sector as well. Even satellite radio, which prides itself on falling outside FCC jurisdiction, needs an overhaul from You. We ask You to clean up our broadcasters, and prevent public funding of programming that does not honor You.

- "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17)

6. POLL: FOR THE FIRST TIME, MAJORITY IN U.S. BACK GAY MARRIAGE

WASHINGTON (AFP) - For the first time in nearly a decade of polling, a majority of Americans say they are in favor of same-sex marriage, a survey released Friday showed. Fifty-three percent of Americans support gay marriage, up more than 20 percentage points from a low of 32 percent in 2004, the poll of 1,005 adults conducted over four days last week for ABC News and the Washington Post found. Gary Langer of Langer Research Associates, which produced the poll, called the findings a "milestone result that caps a dramatic, long-term shift in public attitudes." Five years ago, only a majority of people younger than 30 supported gay marriage, but now majorities of those in their 30s and 40s do, the poll shows. But, overall, Americans are still divided over gay marriage, with as many adults strongly opposed to same-sex unions as support them, and opposition to same-sex unions still strong among conservatives. Republicans oppose gay marriage by a ratio of two to one, and evangelical white Protestants, a core conservative group, are opposed to same-sex unions by three to one, an analysis of the survey's findings says.

Gay marriage is legal in five US states and the capital, Washington, and a handful of other states allow same-sex civil unions. The Obama administration late last month said it would no longer defend the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, a 1996 law banning federal recognition of gay marriages, but the Republican-led House of Representatives has vowed to fight the president's decision in the courts.

- Father, we ask you to set our pulpits aflame with righteousness in our land. If your people never hear about this issue, it's easy for many to assume it does not matter. Bring this forth from the most unexpected of places, if necessary.

- "If I say, 'I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,' there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot." (Jeremiah 20:9)

7. HOUSE FRESHMEN DEFEND MARRIAGE

Last week, Speaker John Boehner directed the House General Counsel to defend the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act in court after Barack Obama ordered his Justice Department to stop defending traditional marriage. President Obama has recently concluded that commonsense laws defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman are unconstitutional and amount to bigotry.

While I am pleased with Speaker Boehner's action, I think it is important for voters to know where their elected representatives stand on this issue. Thanks to freshman Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), we may soon learn whether members of Congress agree with Obama or the voters of 31 states who have protected the meaning of traditional marriage at the ballot box.

Rep. Hartzler recently introduced a resolution condemning the Obama Administration for its failure to defend the law upholding traditional marriage in America. In the past week, 96 members have signed on as co-sponsors. Here's more encouraging news: For all the talk about how the Tea Party candidates cared only about fiscal issues, nearly half of the co-sponsors (41) are freshmen. I'm sure more will sign on in the days ahead. (Gary Bauer)

- Father, while there is plenty of politics surrounding this issue, we know this is one of the fundamentals. We thank you for providing a way to defend this law, and we ask You to go before it, and make the way straight to honor and preserve this sacred institution you've given to us. To the extent You can make clear who is for and who is not for preserving marriage as You've given it to us, please make that clear as well.

- "Ask for the ancient paths." (Jeremiah 6:16)

8. "GUNRUNNER" ESCAPADE TO BE REVIEWED BY CONGRESS

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, says he has assigned four investigators to look into the escapade of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that has become known as "Project Gunrunner." . . The case centers on allegations of a flow of guns into Mexico orchestrated by the federal agency, including a weapon that later was used to kill a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Investigators will examine allegations that the ATF encouraged gun shops to sell guns to questionable customers so it could track the weapons as they were smuggled into Mexico.

Committee spokesman Seamus Kraft says Issa's committee is launching the investigation because of the people's right to know what their government is doing. "Americans have a right to know who let this program happen and why. Our investigation seeks to deliver the facts so taxpayers can decide who should be held accountable," Kraft explained.

Kraft said Issa also supports plans for an inquiry by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. "ATF and DOJ denied the existence of the program and stonewalled the senator's requests, relying on a policy of not disclosing information relating to an 'open investigation,'" Kraft explained. "Chairman Issa strongly supports Sen. Grassley's efforts, and he has launched an investigation to obtain the relevant information necessary to get to the bottom of this matter," Kraft added.

A spokesman for Grassley, the Senate Judiciary Committee's ranking member, said the senator is pleased by the news about Issa's investigation. "Senator Grassley is pleased that Mr. Issa has joined him in getting to the bottom of the ATF's policy on letting guns walk, and he plans to coordinate and share information with Mr. Issa as the investigation continues," Grassley spokeswoman Beth Levine said. - Father, make the mission along our border clear. May our officials and those in law enforcement be clear on our principles by which we operate. May those be in line with Your will. Then may we execute on that strategy, and abandon what is not in line with Your purpose and principles.

9. RAUF: CONSTITUTION IS SHARIA COMPLIANT

The Ground Zero mosque man, Imam Feisal Rauf, is on a tour of American universities telling youth that Sharia is not only compatible with the Constitution, but that the Constitution is "sharia compliant." What is his purpose? His pitch is that since the Constitution is compatible with sharia then there is no need to fear sharia law, which prescribes death for homosexuality and under which women have virtually no rights. A recent post at BigPeace.com sort of sums it up with Sharia for Dummies.

- Father, we know that some people will laugh, and others will listen and take him seriously. Neither is the best response. We ask for wisdom for our university leaders. Give them a higher understanding of their national purpose. Lord, remove our blinders! Raise up people who know and will speak for the part that You played in our nation's founding. May our Constitution even today glorify You.

- "My heart is broken within me; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, like a man overcome by wine, because of the LORD and because of his holy words." (Jeremiah 23:9)

10. COAST GUARD INVESTIGATING REPORTS OF OIL SPILL IN GULF

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating reports of a potentially massive oil sheen about 20 miles north of the site of last April's Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion, according to the Times-Picayune. Coast Guard spokeswoman Casey Ranel says the agency is sending out a cutter Sunday to collect samples of the substance, according to The Associated Press. Ranel says an airplane is also expected to fly over so officials can get a better idea of what's in the water.

Nearly one year after the BP oil rig explosion that caused 4.9 million barrels of oil to pollute the Gulf of Mexico, a pilot flying over the area reported a sheen of about a half-mile long and a half-mile wide, according to Barnard. Another caller reported a much larger sheen - about 100 miles long.

A press release sent Saturday night said the Coast Guard was investigating reports of an oil sheen in the Gulf. The Coast Guard says there is a substance in the water, though officials have yet to determine what it is. Pollution investigators and a helicopter crew are following up on two calls to the National Response Center, the federal point of contact for reporting oil and chemical spills, Paul Barnard, an operations controller for Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, told the Times-Picayune. (Fox News)

- The last news that America needs to learn is that another oil spill has occurred, if indeed one has. We do not want to feed more fuel to Obama's prevention of off-shore drilling at this time of setting ourselves free from Middle East oil. Pray that this sheen is from some other source than oil from rigs, or if the sheen is, pray that it comes from a source easily found and easily fixed. Praise the Lord that Fox News has quickly reported this news. Ask the Lord to promote American intelligence and ingenuity to find ways to prevent oil spills from occurring. Because the Lord laid pools of oil beneath the sea floor, He obviously intended the oil for us to use without our destroying the environment.

- " I will give the treasures of the darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel." (Isaiah 45:3)

1. IN GOD WE TRUST RESOLUTION

On March 17th the House Judiciary Committee voted in favor of the "In God We Trust Resolution," H. Con. Res. 13. originated by Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA). The Forbes resolution, supported by 64 bipartisan congressmen, reaffirms "In God We Trust" as the national motto and encourages its public display.

On the passage Congressman Forbes said, "Today, the House Judiciary Committee asked two simple questions: does the United States still have the right to trust in God, and if so, should it? If the answer is 'yes' to both questions, then the truths we declare to be 'self evident' and the rights we hold as 'endowed by our Creator' are indeed transcendent and cannot be taken away by any government. I applaud the Judiciary Committee for answering 'yes' and reaffirming not only our nation's trust in God, but also our fundamental rights as Americans." (Religious Freedom Coalition)

- Father, we are forgetful sheep, and we need reminders of the One in Whom we trust. We thank you for leaders who will remind us of these things, particularly for the context. It's one thing to trust You in a house of worship. It's another to trust You in the public square.

- "The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence." (2 Samuel 22:3)

2. CONGRESSMEN CALL FOR RESOLUTION ON RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Congressman Heath Shuler (D-NC), co-chairs of the Congressional International Religious Freedom Caucus, introduced a resolution calling for the U.S. to take action to protect religious freedom. The resolution condemns the intolerance that sanctioned recent high profile assassinations in Pakistan including that of Minister of Minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti.

Tina Ramirez, Director of Government Relations at the Becket Fund, who collaborated with Congressman Franks' office on House Resolution 141 said, "Congress is finally recognizing the dangerous nexus between Pakistan's blasphemy laws and international advocacy for 'defamation' resolutions that defend the harmful effects of those laws on innocent lives. It is inexcusable that the international community has allowed these deaths to occur instead of standing behind the men who were willing to die for the freedom their country and the UN system was intended to protect." (Religious Freedom Coalition)

-Father, we thank you for Trent Franks and Heath Shuler, who are willing to publicly stand up for freedom to proclaim your Name, and the freedom of religion. Your first of Ten Commandments to us was to have no other god before you, and that means to have You before us. We thank you for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and particularly its points on freedom of religion. May the House of Representatives pass H.Res. 141.

- "You shall have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3)

3. BILL OPPOSING USE OF FOREIGN LAW IN USA

Congressman Sandy Adams (R-FL) introduced H.R.973, to prevent the misuse of foreign law in United States federal courts. The bill states: "In any court created by or under Article III of the Constitution of the United States, no justice, judge, or other judicial official shall decide any issue in a case before that court in whole or in part on the authority of foreign law, except to the extent the Constitution or an Act of Congress requires the consideration of that foreign law." (Religious Freedom Coaltion)

- Father, we've heard explanations from our justices about how use of foreign law as a means to find common interpretation of treaties and other international laws. We know the danger lies beyond those waters, and we ask you to hold back foreign enemies from coming through our domestic legal system.

- "The king of Assyria was told, 'The nations that you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land.'" (2 Kings 17:26)

4. H.R. 968: ADDRESSING AMERICA'S TERRORIST PROSECUTION, DETENTION POLICIES

Congressman Forbes and 24 other members of the House Armed Services Committee introduced legislation, H.R.968, to address a number of unanswered questions regarding America's prosecution and detention of terrorists. The legislation would make it tougher for detainees to return to the battlefield or share information with other terrorists, and would permanently block funding for the creation or renovation of any facility in the continental United States to house detainees currently held at Guantanamo Bay. (Office of Congressman Randy Forbes)

- Father, we thank you that men who would seek to do your people harm have been detained. We ask for your wisdom and guidance as to how to proceed with handling these lives. May they come to know You and seek your glory.

- "He delights in mercy." (Micah 7:18)

5. CANCELLING UNDERUTILIZED AND OVERFUNDED PROGRAMS

Congressman Forbes voted to support H.R.830, which would terminate the FHA Refinance Program and restrict the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from newly insuring any mortgage under the program. The legislation would also direct the HUD Secretary to conduct a study to determine the extent of use of the FHA Refinance Program by members of the Armed Forces, Veterans, and Gold Star recipients. The program was funded with $8 billion in TARP funds. $50 million of this $8 billion has been disbursed as of February 3, 2011. Only 44 loans have been refinanced under this program as of mid-February and only 245 applicants have been submitted. This bill passed by a vote of 256 - 171. (Office of Congressman Randy Forbes)

- Father, we thank you for this beginning of efforts to reform our financial systems and bailouts. We ask you for a spirit of cooperation among our leaders and divisions of government. These are not typically lightning rod issues, and can find agreement easier than others. There is no less glory due your name in such cases, and we ask you do to a mighty work and overcome what has been presidential opposition even to cutting unspent and unneeded funds.

- "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered." (Psalm 32:1)

Watching the States

3. STATE SENATOR WANTS TENNESSEE TO CONSIDER CREATING ITS OWN CURRENCY

1. ARIZONA SEEKING PACTS WITH OTHER STATES TO DEFY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Arizona lawmakers are working to create alliances with other states on controversial issues such as health care, immigration and firearms regulation in a growing effort to challenge the authority of the federal government.

The push to form interstate compacts, which have the power to supersede existing federal law if approved by Congress, is part of a broader effort at the Arizona Capitol to promote states' rights.

Lawmakers have introduced bills that seek to limit congressional spending and federal authority on issues from elections to environmental inspections, and Gov. Jan Brewer lists federalism as one of her top priority initiatives this term.

Even if the House and Senate pass the measures and the governor signs them, Congress would still have to approve them - and other states would have to pass similar legislation.

Critics question the point of the bills and the motivation of the lawmakers promoting them.

"Right now, Arizona is the epicenter for a lot of - and I am trying to be neutral here -innovative strategies for voicing displeasure with federal law," said Greg Magarian, a constitutional-law expert at Washington University in St. Louis. "I have to believe the primary motivation here is political. You pass this and then essentially dare Congress to invalidate it." (The Arizona Republic) Read more

- Father, these are complicated times with complex issues at many levels. We pray for leadership at the federal level, and not just news cycle highlights. There's a difference between states' rights and a creating a new subset of federalism. Even if this were or could become a valid form of government, the implementation and transition to such creates all manner of opportunity for creating other problems, possibly worse than we have now. We ask you to complete the work You've done.

-"He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:6)

2. UTAH LEGISLATURE PASSES BILL TO TEACH THAT U.S. IS A REPUBLIC

A bill that would ensure Utah students learn the U.S. is a compound constitutional republic - not a democracy - has passed both Houses of the Legislature and is now headed to the governor for his signature.

HB220 would require schools to teach students that the U.S. is a compound constitutional republic and about other forms of government such as pure democracy, monarchy and oligarchy along with political philosophies and economic systems such as socialism, individualism and free-market capitalism. The Senate passed the bill with no dissenting votes Monday.

And on Tuesday, the House agreed to wording changes made in the Senate.

The bill passed after weeks of debate over the differences between democracies and republics and whether socialism is a form of government or a philosophy. (Salt Lake Tribune) Read more.

- Father, we thank you for official clarity of definitions. As a God of Words, teach us that our words matter. We thank you that we are not a democracy, but that we can be a people who trust in You. We thank you for giving us a structure in which that works called the Constitution. Preserve it from attacks, and start with us.

3. STATE SENATOR WANTS TENNESSEE TO CONSIDER CREATING ITS OWN CURRENCY

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - State Sen. Bill Ketron is pushing for Tennessee to study whether the state should create its own currency in the event of a breakdown of the Federal Reserve.

Depending on the perspective, Ketron's proposal is either a harmless step toward safeguarding the state in the event of national financial calamity, or proof that the Republican-led General Assembly is distracting itself from the task of creating jobs and improving the economy.

Republican-led General Assembly is distracting itself from the task of creating jobs and improving the economy.

Ketron has filed a joint resolution to create a committee that would study whether Tennessee should adopt a currency as an alternative to the federal dollar in the event of a "major breakdown" of the Federal Reserve.

The proposal is part of a burgeoning movement on the part of conservative lawmakers to begin preparing for a worst-case scenario in which the Reserve collapses. Ketron's legislation mirrors almost word-for-word bills filed in South Carolina and Virginia, which passed the law earlier this year. (The Tennessean) Read more.

- Father, these could be symptoms of larger growing problems, or they could possibly become viable solutions to unspeakable problems. If our currency goes, it would take a lot more than our right to tax ourselves with it. We know questions about money and taxes go back to when Jesus walked the earth. Help us deal with the root problem of our federal monetary policy which stems from our federal fiscal policy of excessive spending.

-"He said to them, 'Whose image and inscription is this?'" (Matthew 22:20)

This Week, Worship Our Lord As . . .

LORD OUR MAKER (Adoni Osaynoo)

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. (Psalm 95:6)

How comforting it is to know that You are my Maker. You know me better than I know myself. Your desires for me are higher than my desires for me. Father God, help me to live this day in submission to Your will, for You made me and You will lead me in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. Thank You for loving me.
