The Daily Brief - Wednesday, July 28, 2010

"And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen." (Romans 16:20)

The Daily Brief

1. Arizona Immigration Law Still a 'Powerful Deterrent' - Fox News

While opponents of Arizona's immigration law claim victory after a judge blocks most of the crackdown, supporters cheer what's left in state legislation.

A spokesman for Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said the state will appeal Judge Susan Bolton's ruling to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Thursday, asking the appellate court to lift the injunction and allow the blocked provisions to take effect. The appeal will ask the 9th Circuit to act quickly, Paul Senseman said.

- Pray that Arizona will appeal this decision all the way to the Supreme Court. As the law reads now, its standard wording is consistent with other laws regarding search and seizure, human rights, etc. Pray that God will bring wisdom to those who will continue to review this legislation , and remove the emotionalism that is behind its opponents.

- "The good obtain favor from the Lord, but He condemns a man with schemes." (Proverbs 12:2) [Holman Christian Standard Bible]

2. 100 days later, devastation and hope as oil spill efforts take hold - CNN

An oil well ruptured in the Gulf of Mexico 100 days ago, setting into motion the worst environment disaster in U.S. history.

- God, we call forth Your angelic host to walk the waters affected by this oil spill, erasing every trace of oil with each step. We call for two miracles, Lord God; one, that this nation would fall on their knees before You and repent of sin by accepting Jesus as their own personal Savior; and two, that there would be a visible miracle in the Gulf that all the world will see. We lift up the name of the Lord over these waters and our country and shout, "Victory. Victory. Victory." In Jesus Name.

- "And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again." (II Corinthians 5:15)

3. Report: U.S. Readies Criminal Probe of Oil Spill - Fox News

Several U.S. government agencies are preparing a criminal probe of at least three companies involved in the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, though it could take more than a year before any charges are filed, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

- God, we pray that You will make public any esoteric group who were politically involved with devious plans that caused this oil spill. Reveal the mastermind who devised this evil and they suffer retribution and judgment for their deeds May the host of heaven rout out the enemy and bring forth every detail of truth. In Jesus Name.

- "And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, everyone by the sword of his brother." (Haggai 2:22)

4. House Democrats Buck Obama on Afghanistan - ABC News

Obama is facing something of a Democratic revolt against the war in Afghanistan -- a revolt dramatically on display today as the House debated a $33 billion bill to fund the war.

- Father, we call all heaven to bear witness against any bills that will lay burdens of taxation upon the backs of the American people that will be too heavy to bear, either in this generation or in many generations to follow. This bill, along with all the other bills, seek to kill our future. It is striking at the root of future civilizations who have a right to be born in a free world. So may the God of heaven step in the path and block forever this bill and all future bills that are used to destroy America. Bring down the culprit by the blood of Jesus, that their power be stripped and they fall flat under the hand of almighty God. In Jesus Name.

- "For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him." (Jeremiah 30:8)

5. ADL: Calif Had Most Anti-Semitic Incidents in '09 - NewsMax

California had the country's highest number of anti-Semitic assaults, harassment and vandalism incidents last year, the Anti-Defamation League said Tuesday.

- Father, the citizens in California are bound to failure and devastation when they take a stand against the Jewish people. So we ask that this spirit of hatred of the Jew be bound under the blood of Jesus and rendered inoperative.

We ask that the presence of the Holy Spirit sweep over these people dissolving this hatred, and drawing them into a safe place of repentance through the blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "Now the Lord said unto Abraham, I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing; and I will bless them that blesses you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:1-3)

6. Ahmadinejad: US, 'Zionists' to start new Mideast wars - Ynet News

Iranian president says his country has 'precise information' on American plot to stymie his country's growth and 'save Zionist regime' through military confrontation.

- Father, You are answering prayer regarding this president to quell his power and quiet his voice, and to limit his influence on world affairs. He is expecting the United States to launch a military strike and this is like an arrow of fear in his heart. All this is in the hands of the Lord. We thank You, God, that You stand against his prideful words and render them empty and ineffective. May God's will be done with the fate of this regime and bring it down under the blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave His voice; hail stones and coals of fire. Yea, He sent out His arrows, and scattered them; and He shot out lightnings, and discomfited them." (Psalm 18:13-14)

Senior U.S. envoy warned the Palestinian president that he must move quickly to direct talks with Israel if he wants President Barack Obama's help in setting up a Palestinian state, according to an internal Palestinian document obtained by The Associated Press on Monday.

2. Gaza cannot remain a prison camp - Jerusalem Post

British Prime Minister David Cameron has used a visit to Turkey to equate Gaza to a "prison camp" and condemn Israel for its response to the Gaza flotilla incident.
3. US in 'full court press' to restart direct Mideast talks - Ynet News

The United States said Tuesday it is making a "full-court press" to encourage the Israelis and Palestinians to resume direct peace talks that lapsed in late 2008.

4. Netanyahu pays surprise visit to Jordan - Jerusalem Post

Two days before a crucial meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Cairo to decide whether to support direct Israeli- Palestinian talks, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu held an unannounced meeting in Amman Tuesday with King Abdullah II in an apparent attempt to get him to support such talks.

Prophecy revealed: evil men deceiving and being deceived in Afghanistan leak

The 2 Timothy prophecy about evil deception in the end times is underscored by the White House handling of the war in Afghanistan. The White House requested another 33,000 troops for Afghanistan and the House of Representatives approved the request along with another $37 billion in funding. This went virtually unnoticed as hidden in the sinister shadows of the classified information leaked regarding the war in Afghanistan by WikiLeaks, a whistleblower website known to be against the Afghan war. The White House knew of WikiLeaks' intent to publish the documents, but did nothing to stop them, even though the White House knew lives would be jeopardized and national security breached.

The Times of London reports, "The leak by the WikiLeaks website of 90,000 secret documents on the war in Afghanistan has put hundreds of Afghan lives at risk because the files identify informants working with NATO forces." The Times reported that in just two hours, it found dozens of Afghani names who were said to be informants, many whose lives will be in jeopardy. The man who occupies the Oval Office has downplayed the release of these classified documents about Afghanistan, saying that the documents "don't reveal any issues that haven't already informed our public debate on Afghanistan."

The New York Times said it, along with the Guardian newspaper in London and the German magazine Der Spiegel, had received the leaked material several weeks ago from Wikileaks, and published them on Sunday, July 25. White House National Security Advisor James Jones called the leaks "irresponsible" and said the US strongly condemns the disclosures. The White House, however, used this breach of security to say that the leaks justified its review of Afghanistan strategy. In the Monday, July 26 news briefing, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters that the White House knew about the release of the information for weeks, but did not try to stop WikiLeaks or the other news organizations from publishing the documents.

Gibbs said, "The only effort that I made in discussing...I passed a message through the writers at the New York Times to the head of WikiLeaks to redact information that could harm personnel or threaten operations or security." Asked if the president was angered by the release, Gibbs sidestepped the question saying only that there is an ongoing investigation. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." There is more to this story. The White House obviously had knowledge of the content of these documents, but made no attempt to stop their release. Good men will die, more troops will go, and America continues to be harmed by its irresponsible leadership.

Good News In The Gulf?

ABC News and the New York Times have reported in recent days that the oil in the Gulf of Mexico from the Deepwater Horizon leak is rapidly disappearing. Consider this from the ABC report: "The numbers don't lie: two weeks ago, skimmers picked up about 25,000 barrels of oily water. Last Thursday, they gathered just 200 barrels." So where did all that oil go?

Jeffrey Short, a former government scientist who studied oil spills, told the New York Times that "as much as 40 percent of the oil in the gulf might have simply evaporated once it reached the surface." Forty percent is a pretty big number. Moreover, as the Times notes, "An unknown percentage of the oil would have been eaten by bacteria, essentially rendering the compounds harmless and incorporating them into the food chain."

Now don't get me wrong - I am not downplaying the seriousness of the disaster. Everyone wants clean oceans, clean beaches and oil-free seafood. Nor am I suggesting that BP should be exonerated. It should pay for the damage done to the hardworking families of the Gulf region. The spill effectively shut down the summer tourist season in Florida and has cost many in the Gulf fishing industry dearly. It has also provided an excuse for the Obama Administration to attack oil drilling.

But from day one of the leak, the "mainstream" media grossly failed to provide any semblance of perspective or balance in covering this story. Big name journalists hyperventilated on screen about the Gulf of Mexico becoming another Dead Sea. They parroted talking points from left-wing environmental groups. The media hyped the story, scared tourists away from beach communities and fueled an atmosphere of overreaction in Washington.

There is no doubt a lot of work left to do in the Gulf - especially in the Louisiana marshes affected by the leak. But we should not allow misguided policies like the drilling ban to compound the misery. (Gary Bauer)

"Our Divisive president"

An op-ed in today's Wall Street Journal caught my attention. The authors rip into Obama for dividing Americans by class, race and party, and cite several examples, including the Cambridge cops incident, the president's cynical exploitation of the immigration issue, the lawsuit against Arizona and the refusal to prosecute the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation. Here is the thrust their column:

"Rather than being a unifier, Obama has divided America on the basis of race, class and partisanship. Moreover, his cynical approach to governance has encouraged his allies to pursue a similar strategy of racially divisive politics on his behalf. . . By dividing America, Obama has brought our government to the brink of a crisis of legitimacy, compromising our ability to address our most important policy issues."

What makes the column significant is that it was written by Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen, Democrat Party activists and insiders who worked for Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Their critique further undermines the absurd charges of racism that are routinely lobbed against the Tea Party movement by liberal media and political elites. If Democrats like Caddell and Schoen see what we see and are speaking out against it, then the backlash against Obama could be bigger than the polls are measuring right now. (Gary Bauer)

Arab Americans experience God's love in Dearborn , Michigan

From the desk of Josh McDowell:

Thank you. Your incredibly generous support made our time at the Arab International Festival last month possible.

This is the second year that the festival's organizers have welcomed me to the Arab International Festival. We had an author's booth this year, just like last June. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet people and give away my books. Nearly 250,000 people attended the festival!

Wow! I wish you could have been there. The welcome I received from the people of Dearborn, the festival organizers and city officials was just as warm as last year. This year was special for several reasons. We had a group of 77 volunteers and staff from all over the country take time out of their busy schedules to join me there. They were so helpful. They made sure things ran smoothly at the booth and developed relationships within the Arab- American community. Our time was even more fruitful because of the two days of training everyone received about building cross-cultural friendships. We even got to meet local groups who minister in Dearborn all year long in preparation for the event.

One of my favorite times from the week came when a young man came up and started talking to me about his faith. We started talking and before I knew it, we'd been talking for 3 hours about all kinds of things - his faith, God's love and so much more!

This year was such a success. Over 3,000 people came through our booth. The amazing thing about this, as our volunteers will tell you, is that not one of them left without a smile on their face. I think they really experienced God's love.

People were so eager to read my books. People were especially interested in How To Be A Hero To Your Kids. I'm so excited about the impact this book could have in the Arab-American community.

And the work didn't end last week. We're coordinating with the churches in Dearborn to ensure that there are Christians ready to do follow-up with Arab Americans and accept them into their church community. Combining these efforts with a new website and telephone hotline will help us share the love of God with as many people as possible.

Thank you again for helping us share God's love with truth-seekers in Dearborn .
