The Daily Brief - Wednesday, March 24, 2010

"I know that my Redeemer lives." (Job 19:25)

Today's Daily Brief

Obama and Netanyahu initially conferred for about 90 minutes in the Oval Office -- a half-hour longer than scheduled. After that meeting, Obama retired to the residence while Netanyahu stayed behind in the White House to consult with his staff in the Roosevelt Room, a White House official said late Tuesday.

- Father, we lift up all the issues that were brought forth in this meeting and ask that You guide the ultimate outcome into Your perfect will. Because Israel is Your land; You have put Your Name there, we ask that You protect it with Your power and Your glory. May these leaders be guided by the Word of God and not forsake the covenant of the Lord their God to worship other gods, and serve them. With holy boldness, raise Your hand against decisions that would bring untold havoc upon Israel and America. In Jesus Name.

- "The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand." (Isaiah 14:24)

Netanyahu then asked for a second meeting with Obama, who came back downstairs to the Oval Office for another 35 minutes of talks with the prime minister, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, to discuss the sensitive diplomatic issues.

Although they met for a total of two hours, the White House did not issue a formal statement on what was discussed in either meeting, another break with custom. Israeli officials also had no comment.

- Father, we pray that all decisions that were made in this meeting be brought under the covering of the blood of Jesus. Hold Your hand over these leaders and let neither of them be allowed to set in course actions that would draw them into a pit of ultimate destruction. We call forth God's army of warring angels to surround Israel and America and fight against and defeat all their enemies. May the fire of God surround these countries and break every alliance that was formed under the influence of satanic forces. In Jesus Name.

- "Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let them also that hate God flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice." (Psalm 68:1-3)

3. Obama Signs Landmark Health Insurance Overhaul Bill - Fox News

President Obama signed a landmark health insurance overhaul Tuesday in a ceremony that put the finishing touch on a yearlong battle that has defined his presidency.

- Father, we declare that as they attempt to implement this bill, they will find the Lord standing in front of them. The Lord is holding this bill in His hands, and it will be pulled apart page by page. It is destroyed in the hands of the Lord. In Jesus Name.

- "Truly my soul waits upon God: from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. My soul, wait only upon God; for my expectation is from him." (Psalm 62:1-2)

4. Judge rules against lesbian teen in prom case - USA Today

A federal judge ruled Tuesday that the Itawamba County, Miss., school board violated the rights of a lesbian student by canceling the prom when the student challenged a ban on same-sex dates, but the judge stopped short of ordering the district to reinstate the April 2 prom.

- Oh God, open the eyes of the blind who walk in the way of wickedness without awareness. Send forth Your angels to rescue this girl and many like her from a lifestyle that will lead her straight into a pit of darkness. Convict the conscience of this judge to rule against homosexuality. Separate him out as a judge who rules with righteousness so there will be a clear-cut separation between the good and the bad. In Jesus Name.

- "God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause His face to shine upon us; that Your way may be known upon earth, Your saving health among all nations." (Psalm 67:1)

5. Fox News Poll: 79% Say U.S. Economy Could Collapse - Fox News

Most American voters believe it's possible the nation's economy could collapse, and majorities don't think elected officials in Washington have ideas for fixing it.

- Father, take hold of all that is affecting our economy and pull back the deceivers who are putting in place their plot to destroy us with the lawless bills that are slipping through the cracks without a vote. These bills are misnamed. They are fallacious. Their purpose is to bring in a Marxist system that undermines the foundation of all that America stands for. God, set angels in place to stand against these evil forces. Protect us by the blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the people, till everyone submit himself with pieces of silver; God scatter the people that delight in war." (Psalm 68:30)

6. States Plot to Block, Limit Health Care Reform Law - Fox News

The proverbial ink had yet to dry on the nation's new health care reform law Tuesday before more than a dozen states filed lawsuits, while others scrambled to put up legislative barricades between themselves and the bill requiring Americans to purchase health insurance or face stiff penalties.

- God, strengthen the arms of the American people and raise us up to fight for our rights and freedom that is ingrained in the very fiber of our nation since it was founded. We humble ourselves under the mighty hand of the Lord to raise up a standard among the people. Block any and all penalties that would be enforced against us by the blood of Jesus. If God be for us, who can be against us. Deliver us from evil, Lord. In Jesus Name.

- "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

Change Means Socialism--An Infamous Day In American History

The vote 219 to 212 to bring the free market society of America under socialist rule revealed much about the downfall of the American dream: that the Democratic Party should be renamed the Socialist Democratic Party; that the whole ballyhoo of pro-life Democrats holding up the bill was a ruse to actually pass the bill; and that the majority of elected legislators in Washington, DC have blatantly undermined the Constitution while violating their oath of office. Now the American people are subject to paying trillions of dollars of mandated money to the government to be citizens of America. Jesus Christ warned of the latter days in Matthew 24:4 when he said, "Take heed that no man deceive you."

But deception was the order of the day. Pro-life Christians were deceived when Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak said he and his posse would kill the socialist health care bill if it used taxpayer money for abortions. His caving in marked just how deception works to ply the hopes of the well intended into the deeds of the evil-hearted. Stupak said he is satisfied that the man who occupies the Oval Office will "fix" the abortion issue by executive order. This means he is relying on the most pro-abortion former senator in history to write an executive order prohibiting tax funds to be used for abortions--this will be an EOINO--executive order in name only.

Now Americans are seeing the true change promised by this administration--extreme socialism by the standards of the Constitution. This government has committed a crime against the people. When this legislation takes effect, you will be forced to pay insurance premiums or the IRS will come knocking at your door. You will then either pay a fine the equivalent of the amount of your forced insurance premiums or go to jail. Health tribunals will determine who receives what type of health care. This legislation will significantly expand the powers of the IRS. The government will control nearly 20% of the US economy. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the bill would have to be passed to see what is in it.

Thomas Jefferson said in a letter dated April 6, 1816, "To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it." The Founding Fathers feared what these socialists have done. Jefferson said, "Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated." This socialism is illegal according to the Supreme Law of the Land--the Constitution. It is a deplorable attempt of government to replace God.

Who Voted for What?

Twenty Democrats were urged to change their vote from a "yes" to "no" on pro-life grounds but failed to do so. They are: Reps. Carney (Pa.), Costello (Ill.), Dahlkemper (Pa.), Donnelly (Ind.), Doyle (Pa.), Driehaus (Ohio), Ellsworth (Ind.), Hill (Ind.), Kanjorski (Pa.), Kaptur (Ohio), Kildee (Mich.), Langevin (R.I.), Mollohan (W. On the positive side, 19 Democrats voted against the Senate bill and for the pro-life motion to recommit, which would have added Stupak's ban to the Senate bill. They are: Reps. States Line up for Legal Challenge

President Obama may have signed his name tens of thousands of times, but nowhere will pack more punch than on the dotted line of today's health care bill. As of this morning, the liberals' nightmarish plan is now a cruel reality for a whopping 80% of the country who believe that the legislation will either hurt them or have no effect whatsoever. The backlash, fired from states across the country, started almost immediately. Lawsuits from 13 states--some collective, others individual--are already in motion from attorneys general who represent a wide array of politically diverse populations. Michigan, Idaho, Mississippi, Minnesota, and now Louisiana, are also wading in the legal waters with announcements that they too may go to court in hopes of fending off ObamaCare at their borders. All but 11 U.S. states are following up these legal revolts with a regional one, having introduced or passed legislation in some form that questions the bill's constitutionality (or, more accurately, the lack of it--as Ken Blackwell, Sen. Orrin Hatch, and Ken Klukowski point out

Despite all the negative PR, White House Senior Advisor David Axelrod shrugged off the notion that these states would have any influence. The President's legislation, he said, "will withstand the legal challenges." But can it withstand the political one? After their dazzling courtship, the President's unfaithfulness to American voters cuts deep. If anything, that betrayal will only take on new legs, as congressional Republicans pick up steam with their repeal campaign. In the Senate, Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is banking on one simple sentence to reverse the bill, "The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act, and the amendments made by that Act are repealed." On the House side, Steve King (R-Iowa) is launching an offensive with his own repeal bill. Unfortunately, the challenge that could have had the most immediate impact was thrown out in the Senate by the Democrat-appointed parliamentarian, who ruled against the GOP's argument on reconciliation.

Others are adding ammunition for November to hit Democrats squarely between the "ayes." While some groups are pronouncing the pro-life movement dead in the President's party, they seem oblivious to the fact that several Democrats actually stood, unbending, in the storm. By founding the coalition (which he later abandoned), Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) overshadowed all of the leaders who planted their feet firmly on the side of life when it mattered most. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), stood strong voting "no" for the bill in the face of overwhelming peer pressure--as did Democratic Reps. Boren, Bright, Childers, Holden, L. Davis, Marshall, McIntyre, Peterson, Shuler, Skelton and Taylor. Although these members were completely eclipsed by Stupak, they were the ultimate heroes. Rather than lash out at the movement for the collapse of some, we should make a concentrated effort to praise those who took the mantle upon themselves. They heeded Rep. Stupak's advice even when he did not--the important thing is to prioritize life, not politicize it.

As for others' pro-life U-turns, it's personal now. FRC Action's Tom McClusky made that clear yesterday to a reporter from Politico. "There's passion, but we want to make sure that passion is directed in the right place." You can help. If you'd like to "Replace and Repeal," become a member of FRC Action, our legislative action arm. There you can join the FRC Action PAC in electing members who will repeal this administration's government takeover of health care. (Family Research Council)

All Politics Is Local

In the wake of Sunday's vote, many Americans are understandably angry, frustrated, and looking for ways to fix what the House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) described as a broken Congress. The long-term solution may be closer to home than you think. Too often we overlook the importance of local elections for city council, school boards, and even the state legislature. This is where the political careers--and even the ideologies--of future Congressmen are shaped. Last night, my home church outside of Baton Rouge hosted a candidate forum for local elections. All of the prospective leaders appeared and spoke--not only to the policy issues facing our community, but also to the important role that our Christian faith plays in shaping the future of that community. My pastor, Dr. Dennis Terry, opened the event by saying if we wanted to change the direction of Washington D.C., we have to start at home. The same is true of towns across America. "It's time for churches to once again be active in shaping our communities. I encourage other pastors to seize this moment when many Americans are looking for direction," he said. Now, this is nothing new. For most of our nation's history, the local church was at the heart of civic life. If we want to fix what is broken, I can't think of a better place to start. Will 9/11 Terrorists Walk?

Five months ago, I warned that the day may come when the Islamofascist thugs held at Guantanamo Bay are allowed to walk on a technicality because of Barack Obama's decision to ban certain interrogation techniques as "torture." Well, that day may be here.

News broke late yesterday afternoon that a Clinton-appointed federal judge has ordered the release of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, who is accused of recruiting Mohammad Atta and other 9/11 hijackers. The judge ordered Slahi's release because, according to a report, "Slahi had been subjected to a 'special interrogation plan,'" that "constituted torture," so the evidence against him cannot be used in court.

The Good News Corner

In early 1940, Kate Smith, a fiercely patriotic American, and the biggest star on radio, was deeply worried about her country. She asked Irving Berlin if he could give her a song that would reignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith. He said he had a song that he had written in 1917, but never used it. He said she could have it.

Kate sat at the piano & played it and realized how good it was. She called Mr. Berlin and told him that she couldn't take this from him for nothing. So, they agreed that any money that would be made off the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts of America. Thanks to Kate Smith and Irving Berlin, the Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties.

This clip is from the movie "You're in the Army Now". Frank Sinatra said that when Kate Smith, whom he considered the greatest singer of his age, first sang this song on the radio, a million guys got 'dust' in their eyes and had you wipe the tears the 'dust' caused.

Let's keep our love for our country ALIVE . . . go here!
