The Daily Brief - Wednesday, March 17, 2010

His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed, and His dominion will be forever. (Daniel 6:26)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Tea Party Prepares Anti-Obama 'Surge' in D.C. - NewsMax

Like two heavyweight fighters slugging it out in a battle royal, Obama and tea party activists will square off once again Tuesday, as grass-roots activists host a "We the People Surge" in the nation's capital in protest of the massive planned overhaul of U.S. health care.

- Father, we praise Your holy name for stirring these "grass roots activists" to take hold of the God of America and uphold the foundational values that have kept us a strong nation. The health care bill is destroyed by Almighty God. Strengthen and protect the people who stand with the Lord. If God be for us, who can be against us. In Jesus Name.

- "Our eyes are ever toward the Lord; for He shall pluck our feet out of the net." (Psalm 25:15)

2. Overhaul Splits Party Faithful - Wall Street Journal

The pending health care overhaul remains unpopular with a broad swath of the public, but core Democrats the party needs to show up and vote in November are strong backers, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.

- Our Father, pull down the powers behind this health care facade and expose the viperous evil. Let nothing be hidden nor buried but bring to light the true intent in the hearts of those who authored the bill. We ask that the blood of Jesus smash to pieces all efforts to push this dead bill and strip the powers behind it of all their strength. Bring everything they do to a double zero. In Jesus Name.

- "The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way; but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness." (Proverbs 11:5)

3. Magnitude-4.4 earthquake shakes Southern Calif. - AP

An earthquake east of downtown Los Angeles rippled across Southern California before dawn Tuesday, jolting millions of people awake and putting first-responders on alert.

- God, we pray for the souls of all our people in America, that they will repent of sin and turn to You, Lord, in these times of great disruption in the earth. We call out to You to save us, Father. In the end times, there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. May there be a national calling out to God for forgiveness. May the presence of the Holy Spirit cover the earth drawing the hearts of our people to you. In Jesus Name.

- "For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now." (Romans 8:22)

4. Blair courts controversial US pastor Rick Warren in bid to unite faiths - UK Guardian

Tony Blair is preparing to launch a "faith offensive" across the United States over the next year, after building up relationships with a network of influential religious leaders and faith organizations.

- Father, we pray this work be built upon the Word of God and upholds the whole truth and true faith in the Lord Himself. We ask that no lukewarm attitudes be propagated in the church world but an honest adherence to godliness. We bind under the blood of Jesus any deviation from Jesus Christ and Him crucified. In Jesus Name.

- "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me." (Revelation 3:20)

5. Iran's link to China includes nukes, missiles - Washington Times

Recent developments in Iran confirm that China is providing Tehran with critical defense technologies and weapons systems, including some that violate stated Chinese policies aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation.

- God, wickedness abounds more and more in nations around the world. Their word is full of lies. Their deeds are fathered by the prince of evil. May their defense technologies and weapons systems be destroyed by the hand of God. Overturn them. Bring them to repentance. They will one day stand before the God of heaven and give an account of their evil deeds. Give them a heart of flesh and remove their heart of stone. In Jesus Name.

- "And God will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay My vengeance upon them." (Ezekiel 25:17)

6. Petraeus says Iran nuke won't happen this year - AP

The top U.S. commander in the Middle East says Iran's efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon have been delayed "a bit" and that Iran won't get a nuclear weapon this year.

- Lord, we thank you for Your intervention in this matter and and ask that You further delay their obtaining this weapon. May their nuclear program be ineffective and weak. In Jesus Name.

- "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" (Isaiah 5:20-21)

7. Final destination Iran? - Herald Scotland

Hundreds of powerful US "bunker-buster" bombs are being shipped from California to the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean in preparation for a possible attack on Iran.

- God, we ask that You put out Your arms to sweep those who are believers to safety that no harm come upon them nor anything that they have. Surround them with Your presence that no death can penetrate. May they become invisible to their enemy. Bring them into the safe haven of the Lord. In Jesus Name.

- "No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, says the Lord." (Isaiah 54:17)

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore! (Psalm 105:4)

1. U.S. Envoy Cancels Mideast Trip Amid Israel Feud - Fox News

Washington notified Israel early Tuesday that envoy George Mitchell had put off his trip. The visit will be rescheduled at an undetermined time, officials on both sides said.

2. Hillary Clinton pledges "unshakeable" bond with Israel - Reuters

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday hailed the "unshakeable bond" between the United States and Israel in an effort to quell the diplomatic spat that has rocked ties between Washington and its closest Middle East ally.

3. Arrests follow Jerusalem riots; West Bank closure lifted - Ynet News

A day after the violent clashes between security forces and Jerusalem's Arab residents, Border Guard officers arrested overnight Wednesday two residents of al-Tur on suspicion that they had thrown a firebomb at a Border Guard jeep in the neighborhood. No injuries were reported in the incident, but the jeep caught fire.

4. Israel planning to destroy al Aksa - Jerusalem Post

The armed wing of Fatah, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades, on Tuesday called on the Palestinian Authority to give back the weapons it had confiscated from the group's gunmen so that they could participate in the "Jerusalem Intifada." The call came as both the PA and Hamas continued to accuse Israel of planning to destroy the mosques on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Obamacare Without a Vote?

"O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." (2 Chron 20:12)

From Fox News:

As Nancy Pelosi plans to usher a health care overhaul into law without a vote, critics charge the House speaker is thumbing her nose at a basic principle of democracy - and it won't survive a legal challenge.

From Family Research Council:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) calls it a "self-executing rule"--and if her party isn't careful, that's exactly what it'll turn out to be. In a reckless and potentially suicidal move, House leaders have cooked up a plan to pass ObamaCare without ever voting on the legislation. Instead, Pelosi would pull the trigger on the "Slaughter Solution," (a term that refers both to the Congresswoman who invented it and what it does to the democratic process). Although she insists the move would protect members from voting on a wildly unpopular bill, this is a gutless maneuver that only highlights how terrified Democrats are to be tied to a plan that condones political thievery, government-funded abortion, higher taxes, Medicare cuts, big government, and snowballing debt.
Rather than an honest up-or-down vote on the legislation, House members would "deem" the Senate bill passed without sticking their necks out and approving it. At the same time, they would also vote for a clean-up bill with a package of changes to the original Senate plan. (Of course, Americans have yet to see those "fixes," many of which have major implications on the health care system and our economy.) In their arrogance, liberals think they can dupe the country into believing that this phantom vote distances them from the Senate bill and all of its problems.

Wrong. Even the Washington Post sees this for the hoax it is. In an editorial called "Deem This," the paper outs the Left for turning the process into something "unseemly." Calling these tactics "a dodgy way to reform the health-care system," the editors ask the question on every American's mind, "Why not be straightforward about it? ...Why be so secretive...?" I'll tell you why. Because they know that a vote to move the Senate bill forward is a vote for all of the garbage that this legislation contains. Worst of all, it signs a blank check for the abortion of thousands of unborn children.

And if there was ever any doubt about where House liberals stand when it comes to the bill's abortion bailout, yesterday's mark-up exposed their agenda for the travesty that it is. In the Budget Committee, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.) offered a motion to include the Stupak amendment in health care reform (something that wouldn't be necessary if the Senate language actually mirrored the House's abortion ban, as liberals claimed). Doing the bidding of Pelosi, the majority of Democrats on the committee rejected the amendment 17-19--guaranteeing that the final bill will include taxpayer-funded abortion. House and Senate leaders want to avoid any and all accountability for this government takeover. Don't let them. No matter how you think they may vote this week, call, e-mail, and visit your Representatives! Tell them to block any proce dure that moves this corrupt legislation forward.

From Harry Valentine, Capitol Hill Prayer Alert:

"Obama, Pelosi Using Thug Tactics to Ram Through ObamaCare This Week"
This is it!

President Obama and Speaker Pelosi (D. Ca) are working feverishly to "convince" enough Democrats to approve ObamaCare by the end of this week.

Their tactics include intimidation, bribery, lying, empty promises and extraordinarily unconstitutional parliamentary tricks.

Will they succeed? Will God save us? Our only realistic hope is DIVINE INTERVENTION (Ex 14:24-25).

I know you care about our country. If you haven't been praying about this previously, now is the time! Please, make this part of your prayer life this week!

I believe God will come and save us:

"Say to those who are fearful-hearted, 'Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.'" (Isa 35:4)

Obama v. Israel: Round Two

Obama Bludgeoning Of Israel Continues

China verbally slapped us around yesterday - no White House response. Brazil told the United States they won't support sanctions against Iran - not a word from Hillary Clinton and her State Department bureaucrats. Iran continued to march toward nukes and suggested last week that 9/11 was an "inside job" by the U.S. government. Not a word of protest from Obama, Biden or Clinton.
This administration has no bile for anyone but Israel. The Washington Post reports today that Obama is making three demands on Israel before we will forgive the sin of building houses for its citizens.

• First, we are demanding that the housing permits be cancelled. But every prime minister of Israel has allowed them in their capital.

• Second, Obama wants Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to make a "substantial gesture" toward the Palestinians. The gesture the Obama Administration is reportedly suggesting is the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners. We shouldn't be surprised. Obama has tried to release the jihadists from Guantanamo Bay too. And why would Israel have to make a "gesture" for peace? Did I miss the Palestinian "gesture"? Every concession that Israel has made for 30 years has been met with terror, violence and blood libels.

• Finally, the administration is insisting that Israel publicly state that it is willing to negotiate the division of Jerusalem and the right of return for millions of descendants of Palestinian refugees to Israel. President Obama is advocating demographic suicide for the Israeli people.
Rioting has broken out in parts of Jerusalem as Palestinian thugs, emboldened by our president, take to the streets promising to "liberate" Jerusalem. Obama, Biden and Clinton are creating a crisis. Don't be surprised if homicide bombers start walking into synagogues and shopping malls and on to buses again, inspired by the perception that Obama is abandoning Israel.

URGENT: The Daily Jot!

New Jersey Court Upholds Recall of US Senator

In a unanimous decision, the Superior New Jersey Appellate Court upheld the Constitutional right of the state's citizens to recall Democratic U.S. Senator Robert Menendez. The state of New Jersey is one of 18 states that have recall provisions in their state constitutions. Some nine states have language that allows for the recall of all statewide elected officials. New Jersey's Constitution is the most specific. The Court upheld the language in the state's constitution against the wishes of Senator Menendez, who had over 50 lawyers at the original hearing and argued that it was against the U.S. Constitution that the citizens of New Jersey had any right whatsoever to recall him during the midst of his elected term.

The New Jersey Court considered the Menendez argument that recall was against the U.S. Constitution before making its decision. It said " . . . we do not treat lightly defendants' request that we declare the words of our State Constitution to be irreconcilably in conflict with federal law, and absent clear precedent that compels such a declaration, we are loathe to strike down a component of our State's charter that fortifies the democratic role of our citizens. In short, our State Constitution, and the democratic process that produced it, deserves our utmost respect unless federal law clearly and definitively trumps it."

The Court debated the 17th Amendment that prescribes how Congressional vacancies can be filled by the state, saying that the amendment eliminated state legislations filling vacancies. The Court seemed to refer to the state's and the people's rights as guaranteed by the 10th Amendment in saying, "It has been stated that "[a]s the Constitution does not bar the people of the states the power to recall their federal legislators, they should be free to exercise that power." The Court concluded: "We are pointed to no precedential opinion which has held that the recall of a United States Senator cannot be conducted. The silence of the federal Constitution may well result in the conclusion that it may be done."

Overall, the court decision in New Jersey allows the citizens of New Jersey to go forward with a petition drive to recall Menendez after a period of time expires for the senator to appeal the decision. But because it was a unanimous decision, it may be difficult for Menendez to win an appeal. Menendez has voted for the socialistic and unconstitutional health care bills and to put every American in debt to the government by more than $40,000 each. The people of New Jersey are doing America a favor by bringing recall forward as a Constitutional issue. Proverbs 14:34 says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." It is time for the sinful usurpers in Congress to be held accountable.

Al Qaeda suspect's work at nuclear sites prompts call for probe

A U.S. senator is calling for a federal probe into the system of background checks for employees at nuclear plants after learning that a suspected al Qaeda member from New Jersey worked at five such sites. "We simply cannot tolerate at any time having someone with terrorist ties working at a nuclear plant, period," Sen. Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, said in a written statement Saturday. "It seems like common sense, but clearly we need to tighten up the system." The FBI said earlier this week that it is investigating Sharif Mobley, a 26-year-old from Buena, New Jersey, as a suspected member of al Qaeda. Mobley also is accused of shooting and killing a security agent and severely injuring another while trying to flee the Republican Hospital in Sanaa, Yemen, last weekend, a law enforcement source said last week. Combating "Lawfare"

Federal courts are slowly becoming a new battlefield in the war on terror, with combatants setting aside traditional weapons and arming themselves instead with domestic and international laws. Responding to this phenomenon, the inaugural meeting of The Lawfare Project convened last week in New York to discuss The Use of the Law as a Weapon of War. Major General Charles Dunlap coined the term lawfare, identifying it as: "a cynical manipulation of the rule of law and the humanitarian values it represents. Rather than seeking battlefield victories, per se, challengers try to destroy the will to fight by undermining the public support that is indispensable when democracies like the U.S. conduct military interventions." Dunlap recognized some time ago, as Supreme Court Attorney (France) Francois-Henri Briard said at the conference, "the law may be a weapon, and litigation a battlefield."
