The Daily Brief - Monday, March 1, 2010

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: tremble before him, all the earth. (Psalm 96:9)

Today's Daily Brief

1. In Chile: Rush to Save Lives - Fox News

Chile rescue crews spring to action amid dozens of strong aftershocks to find survivors of devastating 8.8 quake; 100 reportedly trapped in collapsed building in Concepcion.

- Continue in prayer for all rescue efforts in Chile. May all "hidden things (lives) be revealed, and may the workers be granted unusual strength and endurance until every man, woman or child who is trapped in the fallen buildings is found.

- . . . if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. (Matthew 18:19)

2. Tsunami Warnings Lifted - Fox News

The tsunami from Chile's devastating earthquake hit Japan's main islands and the shores of Russia on Sunday, but the smaller-than-expected waves prompted the lifting of a Pacific-wide alert. Hawaii and other Pacific islands were also spared.

- We truly credit the outcome of this tsunami alert to divine intervention, clearly wrought by the hand of God. On Saturday, Father God heard and responded to the cries of His saints, worldwide, for mercy in the face of what could have been a disastrous wave. Praise the Lord!

- For I am the Lord your God, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar and Who by rebuke restrains it--the Lord of hosts is His name. (Isaiah 51:15 AMP)

3. Pelosi Says She's Running 'Most Ethical' Congress Ever - CNS; Newsmax

Won't Ask Rangel to Resign Chairmanship -For Now

Speaker Nancy Pelosi insisted Friday she is running the most ethical and honest Congress in history. A the same time, however, she indicated she will not ask Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel (D.-N.Y.) to resign his chairmanship - at least for now. Meanwhile, voter unhappiness with Congress has reached the highest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports as 71% now say the legislature is doing a poor job.

- Lord, we pray that any transgressions of leaders will reveal themselves so that we can make wise choices as the elections near. We pray for revival for this nation and for a legion of virtuous men and women will be brought into government and will lead with integrity.

- A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding, But he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days. (Proverbs 28:16)

4. House Passes Intel Bill After Stripping CIA Punishment Proposal - Fox News

It took an extra day, but the House of Representatives on Friday approved a bill to reauthorize the nation's intelligence programs. The House approved the bill by a 235-to-168 vote, after a controversial measure was removed that would have imposed tough punishments on CIA interrogators who cross the line while questioning suspected terrorists. The House Democratic leadership team hoped to approve the measure Thursday, but in a stunning move was forced to yank the bill off the floor after the controversy over the CIA measure erupted. Read more.

- We praise You that this provision was removed. We pray for wisdom for those in the intelligence community and for them to continue their work despite these threats. May the leaders in Congress be sensitive to the threats that face this nation, and may they not put people in danger in order to pacify their political base.

- A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind. (Proverbs 18:2)

5. Military Leaders Divided on Repeal of Gay Ban - Fox News

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Conway became the highest ranking officer to break publicly with President Obama in his push to repeal the law that bans gays from serving openly in the military.

"I think the current policy works," Conway told a Senate panel reviewing the policy known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." "At this point . . . . my best military advice to this committee, to the [Defense] Secretary, and to the president would be to keep the law such as it is."

- Lord, may the leaders in this administration listen to the voices of those who are warning about the effect that any changes will have on the military. We thank You that there are still some who will stand up for Your standards, and who will not be swayed by the constant attacks that seek to re-define morality.

- The expression of their faces bears witness against them, And they display their sin like Sodom; They do not even conceal it. Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves. (Isaiah 3:9)

6. Air Force Retracts Invitation for Conservative Leader to Speak - CNS

The Chaplain's Office at Andrews AFB rescinded an invitation to Family Research Council President Tony Perkins after he made comments on his group's Web site critical of President Obama's push to change the military's policy on homosexuality.

- Stand in the gap for our military leadership that would bow to the false god of political correctness. May all that the military does reflect and honor the Godly heritage upon which this nation was founded.

- Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)

7. Congressman: "White House Accounting . . . Would Make Enron Blush" - CNS

Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) says the Obama administration is using an accounting "gimmick" in its budget by not including the debt owed by mortgage firms Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, both rescued by a taxpayer-funded bailout.

- We pray the US government will be a good steward of the funds they control. May any tricks be brought to light, and may the people stand strong for responsibility in spending God's money.

- In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy. (1 Corinthians 4:2)

8. New York governor scraps election bid in scandal - AFP

New York Governor David Paterson on Friday withdrew his election bid after coming under huge pressure not to run again over an abuse-of-office scandal. Paterson, a Democrat who took office in 2008 after then-governor Eliot Spitzer resigned in a sex scandal, said he would not seek a full four-year term in elections this November. "Today I am announcing I am ending my campaign for governor of the state of New York," he told a news conference. Paterson is embroiled in allegations that he and police improperly sought to pressure a woman who had accused one of his top aides of domestic violence.

- We thank You that this leader has considered his actions and has removed himself from the election. We pray that any leaders who are working against Your purposes will be led to either change their stance or to step down. We pray that any who are in office for dishonest reasons will be convicted of their sins and will alter their behavior.

- O My people! Their oppressors are children, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray And confuse the direction of your paths. (Isaiah 3:12)

9. Furor over O's "Gitmo" appointees NY Post

The Justice Department's disclosure that nine of President Obama's appointees had either represented or advocated for Guantanamo detainees has touched off a firestorm of criticism. The surprising admission came three months after Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa asked Attorney General Eric Holder for a list of names of Obama DOJ appointees who had been involved in legal work for Gitmo prisoners. Holder, in a letter to Grassley, admitted that nine of the agency's appointees had done some kind of work on behalf of terror suspects. Holder refused to reveal the names of any of the DOJ lawyers who worked on behalf of terrorists or their positions in the department, except for two officials whose advocacy for Gitmo detainees had already been reported.

- Please pray that no evil political agenda will see its way around the laws of our land. Ask that Mr. Obama come forward with names of his appointees and the former part each played in the detainee's lives. Intercede, asking God for a finished work concerning these nine appointees, including their present roles in the United States Department of Justice.

- How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness And seek falsehood? (Psalm 4:2)

10. North Korea threatens "Powerful Attack" on USA - Fox News

North Korea threatened a "powerful" attack if the U.S. and South Korea proceed with joint military drills next month, warning Thursday that it could even resort to nuclear means. The threat, routinely issued before South Korea and the U.S. embark on regularly scheduled military exercises, was made just hours after President Barack Obama's special envoy to North Korea arrived in Seoul to discuss the North.

- How do world leaders function without wisdom and discernment from God? Please pray that this administration will be able to distinguish between a routine threat and that which could harm Americans, here and abroad. God is no less with us in difficulties than any other time.

- And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. (Psalm 9:10)

White House Reveals Global Warming Agenda

The so-called "science" of global warming has been disproved. The Wall Street Journal reports that the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) now admits that data predicting the melting of the Himalayan glaciers in the next 25 years and the claim that global warming was endangering 40% of the Amazon is inaccurate. The 3,000 page IPCC report--considered the "bible" of climate change--advocated sweeping socialistic political and economic changes to counter the imminent demise of the planet. The lead author of the report, John Christy, has since admitted "temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change." The head of the IPCC has now resigned.

In December 2009, Phil Jones resigned. He was the head of the esteemed University of East Anglia Climate Research Center--the epicenter of doctored statistics and emails suppressing dissenters of climate change. Jones recently said there has been no global warming since 1995 and there was more warming in medieval times. The UK Guardian reported February 22 that "Scientists have been forced to withdraw a report on projected sea level rise due to global warming . . . " They issued this statement to the media: "We no longer have confidence in our projections for the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and for this reason the authors retract the results pertaining to sea-level rise after 1900."

Even with climate change "science" refuted, politicians remain wedded to the global warming political agenda. Obama on February 18 lectured a group of Nevada citizens on global warming. He said, "I want to just be clear that the science of climate change doesn't mean that every place is getting warmer. . . The idea is that as the planet as a whole gets warmer, you start seeing changing weather patterns and that creates more violent storm systems, more unpredictable weather." According to the discredited data, this assessment appears to be a shift in "political science" rather than anything supported by scientific evidence. Ever heard of Chicken Little?

The bottom line is that socialists envision a one world order utopia. They believe they can usher in such a government by scaring the unthinking ignorant that the world is coming to an end because of the weather. The man in the White House said so much when he prefaced his Nevada remarks saying his detractors believe, "The president wants to create this cap and trade system and it's going to be a job killer and it's one more step in the government takeover of the American economy." In this, he has precisely stated his agenda. 2 Timothy 3:13 says that in the latter days,"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Take heed that you are not deceived.

IRAQI ELECTIONS - Urgent Prayer Needed

Elections to be held on Sunday, March 7 (Submitted by the WIN Prayer Network)

Iraq plans to hold parliamentary elections on March 7, 20l0. This election will not only determine who will be leading the nation forward in the aftermath of a long war, but also test the nation's security as Allied troops continue to transfer control to Iraqi forces.

Iraqi elections scheduled for March 7, 2010, the first since 2003 "in a fully sovereign Iraq," are considered critical to the future of the nation.

The 2005 elections were boycotted by Sunnis in protest of the Shiite government and Allied presence. There have already been accusations that the 2010 election will be tampered with illegally and some Sunnis are calling for another boycott after 500 candidates were banned because of alleged ties with the Baath Party (Which was Saddam Hussein's political affiliation).

A suicide attack on February 18, 2010 by al-Qaeda is believed to have been an attempt to protest the upcoming election. The bombing killed 11 people and caused some candidates to wonder if the nation is approaching a new civil war.

Dozens of suicide bombings have been carried out in Baghdad and throughout Iraq as Allied troops have begun the process of transferring security duties to Iraqi forces. Many of the bombings were against Shiites and most were believed to be the work of al-Qaeda.

Iraqi troops engaged in "major counter-insurgency" exercises in February 2010 in order to prepare for possible violence during the elections. These drills were conducted in cooperation with Allied military forces.

If the elections takes place as planned on March 7, 2010, the results will not only determine who will lead the nation forward at this critical juncture in its history, but could also test the ability of Iraqi security forces to maintain order.

As one Iraqi journalist noted, '" New alliances, divisions, conflict, and uncertainty define the political climate in Baghdad as the parliamentary elections scheduled for 7 March 2010 approach." (Sources: BBC News, Kurdish Herald, WorldTribune.com)

PRAY FOR:

- the Lord to guide Iraq toward the destiny He has planned for it. Pray for His Purpose and will to be done in Iraq as it is in Heaven. Pray for His choices for head of state and in all leadership positions, pray they will serve the nation in humility, without greed, and with integrity. (Daniel :21)

Pray for an immediate end to the bloody conflict between Sunni and Shiite Muslims. Pray for both groups to be convicted by the Holy Spirit and realize their need for a Savior. Pray for them to put their faith and trust permanently in Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 9:7; II Corinthians 7:10; Romans 3:23)

- the Lord to protect Allied forces and give them wisdom in maintaining order without usurping control. Pray for Iraqi security troops to use discernment in patrolling and monitoring the election and in keeping citizens safe from terrorist attacks. ( Psalm 144:2)

- Pray every terrorist plot that is being planned will not work or be put into action ( Mark 4:22)

- an immediate end to al-Qaeda in Iraq. Pray for the Lord to reveal Himself to the al-Qaeda leadership transforming their lives through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and after they become followers of Christ they will be used to glorify His Name in Iraq and through the world. (The Bible, John 3:3)

- the Lord to move powerfully in this nation, setting men, women and children free forever from Islam and drawing multitudes into relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord today. (Colossians 1:3)

- the Lord to protect Believers and encourage them to stand strong in the Lord and in the Power of His Might. ( Eph. 6:10)

- Pray for them to be bold in sharing the Good News of the Kingdom of God in Iraq. Pray for the Lord to provide all of their needs. (Ephesians 613, 19; Philippians 4:19)

- the Kingdom of God to come in great power in Iraq, with signs, wonders, miracles, dreams and visions. ( Matthew 6:10)

More News from Israel

Obama administration slams Israel s heritage list

Patriarchs in Hebron and Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem to its new list of national sites to be preserved and renovated under a new Heritage Plan unveiled by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement that the US sees the inclusion as "provocative and unhelpful" to efforts to advance the peace process with the Palestinians, a message he said has been conveyed to Israeli leaders. Palestinian leaders have threatened a 'religious war" over the move, but Israeli leaders have called their response "hypocritical," since Israel allows freedom of worship and access to the holy sites of all faiths, but the PA denies Jews access to a number of sites revered by Judaism. (ICEJ News)

- As God will always protect Israel and her rights, including her right to exist, please pray for those who do not understand this, as they know not what they do. Intercede for these truths and our strong ties of friendship with Israel to remain. Ask God to show us how to pray for her daily.

- You also made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to its Maker, nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago. (Isaiah 22:11)

- Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; Speak the word, but it will not stand, for God is with us. (Isaiah 8:7)

Russia Joins Chorus against Iran

Russia, which has been seen as the international player most reluctant to support severe sanctions against Iran, signaled that it might support those sanctions with a surprisingly tough statement issued by Foreign Minister Lavrov on Sunday [February 21].

Referring to the report issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in which Iran's long history of clandestine nuclear weapons development was unveiled, Lavrov expressed his nation's "alarm" and said that "we cannot accept this that Iran is refusing to cooperate with the IAEA. For about 20 years, the Iranian leadership carried out its clandestine nuclear program without reporting it to the IAEA."

France is seen as being most keen to set a new round of sanctions in play before its term as chair of the UN Security Council concludes at the end of the month. Resistance to new sanctions by China, the other Security Council permanent member hesitant to support a tough approach to Iran, is also seen as abating in the aftermath of the IAEA report.

Some see the report, the first issued by the IAEA after the departure of Egyptian Mohammad El-Baradei as its head, as lending credence to allegations that El-Baradei suppressed evidence of Iran's nuclear intentions and activities. (By The Media Line, February 22, 2010)

- Pray that the new information revealed by the IAEA will help the nations to come together in their efforts to impose stiffer sanctions on Iran. Pray that God will give them His good counsel, and they will be led to follow it.

- With Him are wisdom and strength, He has counsel and understanding. He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings the shadow of death to light. He makes nations great, and destroys them; He enlarges nations and guides them (Job 12:13, 22-23) [Reported by: Bridges for Peace]

Yemen in the News

U.S. builds case for targeting U.S.-born imam in Yemen

U.S. spy agencies believe an American-born Muslim cleric based in Yemen played a bigger role than first thought in al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's decision to start launching attacks against U.S. targets, counterterrorism officials said. The revised assessment by intelligence analysts could help build a case for adding Anwar al-Awlaki to the U.S. target list to kill or capture top militants, though current and former officials said careful review was needed given his status as a U.S. citizen. "It raises the bar dramatically," a former intelligence official said of authorizing the CIA or U.S. Special Operations forces to strike an American on foreign soil. Other officials acknowledged the need for more scrutiny but said Awlaki could be added soon to the target list if a determination is made that he poses a direct security threat. (Reuters) Read more

The Good News Corner

"Smith Wigglesworth -The Power of His Name"

Therefore god also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. (Philippians 2:9-10)

There is power to overcome everything in the world through the name of Jesus. "There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12).

Six people went into the house of a sick man to pray for him. He was a leader in the Episcopal Church, and he lay in his bed utterly helpless. He had read a little tract about healing and had heard about people praying for the sick. So he sent for these friends, who, he thought, could pray "the prayer of faith" (James 5:15). He was anointed according to James 5:14, but because he had no immediate manifestation of healing, he wept bitterly. The six people walked out of the room somewhat crestfallen to see the man lying there in an unchanged condition.

When they were outside, one of the six said, "There is one thing we could have done. I wish you would all go back with me and try it." They all went back and got together in a group. This brother said, "Let us whisper the name of Jesus." At first, when they whispered this worthy name, nothing seemed to happen. But as they continued to whisper "Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!" the power began to fall. As they saw that God was beginning to work, their faith and joy increased, ant they spoke the name louder and louder. As they did so, the man rose from his bed and dressed himself.

The secret was just this: those six people had gotten their eyes off the sick man and were taken up with the Lord Jesus Himself. Their faith grasped the power in His name. Oh, if people would only appreciate the power in His name, there is no telling what would happen.

Thought for today: Through the name of Jesus and through the power of His name, we have access to God.
