The Daily Brief - Tuesday, March 9, 2010

You have covered my head in the day of battle. (Psalm 140:7)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Obama Hits Road, Pitches Health Plan - Washington Times

Seeking to close the deal on his health care overhaul bill, President Obama is getting out of Washington, leaving the city he loves to bash to portray himself as an outsider going up against big insurance companies and their lobbyists in the capital.

• Heavenly Father, we pray this healthcare bill will never be passed. We know it will bankrupt our nation and children. Let all leaders turn away from this plan. Let the blinders come off to see these deceptions!

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things, Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; Who is lord over us?" (Psalms 12:3, 4)

2. Poll Shows Obama, Dems Losing Ground Washington Times

A majority of Americans say the United States is less respected in the world than it was two years ago and think President Obama and other Democrats fall short of Republicans on the issue of national security, a new poll finds.

• Thank you Lord, for answering our prayers to open the eyes of the people. Thank you for causing Christians to get involved in taking back our nation for you, Lord! Give them perseverance and focus so they will not get distracted, discouraged, or lazy but work diligently to see the victory. Make our nation holy once again!

Why do the wicked renounce God? He has said in his heart, "You will not require an account." But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand. The helpless commits himself to You; (Psalms 10:13, 14)

3. Slowly, States are Lessening Limits on Marijuana - USA Today

A Gallup Poll last October found 44% favor making marijuana legal, an eight-point jump since the question was asked in 2005. An ABC News-Washington Post poll in January found 81% favor making marijuana legal for medical use.

• Lord, we know anything that has control over us to turn us away from you is witchcraft. We pray for this spirit of rebellion to be broken off generations so that the captive can be set free to follow you. Let a deep desire for purity be upon our nation from the youngest to the oldest person.

Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, (Ephesians 5:17,18)

4. Senior Budget Analyst: U.S. Fiscal Path Unsustainable - Money News

U.S. fiscal policy is on an unsustainable path of a huge budget gap that cannot be rectified by minor tinkering, a senior budget policy analyst said on Monday.

• Heavenly Father the greed of our nation has overtaken us. And we come before you confessing the sins of our nation from all the sins of greed. You cannot bless an unclean nation and we pray for all our spiritual and political leaders and every leader of our nation to turn from the spirits of greed and pride! Revive us again with Your Holy Spirit.

For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts. (Psalms 10:3, 4)

5. Pentagon Resists Army's Desire to Stop Development of MEADS Missile System Washington Post

After several failed attempts, the Army is trying again to cancel a $19 billion missile defense system that the United States is developing in partnership with Italy and Germany. Known as the Medium Extended Air Defense System, or MEADS, it has been in the works for more than a decade and is designed to replace, in part, the Army s aging Patriot system.

• Lord, we pray that you place leaders in our military and government who have Your spirit strongly upon them. We pray that no decision will be approved and implemented that would bring down our national defense. Block and remove those who are destroying our nation step by step.

Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, The shield of your help And the sword of your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you, And you shall tread down their high places." (Deuteronomy 33:29)

6. Former Congressman Massa Says Democrats Set Him Up Over Health Care The Washington Post

Massa's allegation that he was the victim of a setup, in order to lower the number of "yes" votes needed to pass a bill, fed into that growing anxiety about Democratic tactics. Massa said, If you think that somehow they didn't come after me to get rid of me because my vote is the deciding vote on the health-care bill, then, ladies and gentlemen, you live today in a world that is so innocent as to not understand what is going on in Washington, D.C."

• Heavenly Father, we pray that the truth will come out in this incidence. If there has been coercion, we pray those behaving this way will be removed quickly. Give us righteous leaders who will not seek to control others by intimidation. Remove them, Lord!

For strangers have risen up against me, and oppressors have sought after my life; they have not set God before them. Selah . . He will repay my enemies for their evil; cut them off in Your truth. (Psalms 54: 3, 5)

7. Hundred of Bags Reportedly Went Unscanned at Denver Airport Fox News

Denver airport officials say hundreds of bags were loaded onto airplanes in late December without being run through security scanners. KMGH said it obtained records showing the breach started on Christmas Day and lasted for seven days. The station said an airport memo indicates the bags bypassed scanners because of a human error in programming a computer.

• Lord, we pray that all gaps on our defenses will be stopped up quickly so that the enemies of our nation will be stopped from succeeding in attacks against us physically, spiritually, and financially. Bring up our Hedges of Protection, Lord!

Have You not made a Hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. (Job 1:10)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. (Joel 3:2)

1. Netanyahu welcomes indirect talks with PA - Ynet News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday welcomed the renewed peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, shortly after the United States announced both parties agreed to resume indirect negotiations.

2. Biden, PM set to focus on Iran - Jerusalem Post

Even as the US formally announced Monday that both Israel and the Palestinian Authority had agreed to indirect talks, the focus of the talks Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will hold Tuesday with US Vice President Joe Biden is expected to be the Iranian nuclear threat.

3. 4-8 weeks left for diplomacy on Iran - Jerusalem Post

Four to eight weeks remain to test the option of diplomatic engagement as means of stopping Iran's nuclear program before sanctions will likely be imposed, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told an audience of foreign military officers and government officials in Herzliya on Monday.

ObamaCare: Making Life Difficult

How does President Obama celebrate "International Women's Day?" By leading the effort to pass the most pro-abortion health care plan in U.S. history. With billions set aside for groups like Planned Parenthood, the President's latest bill would trick Americans into funding a procedure that victimizes women and robs them of the physical and mental well-being this legislation promised to advance. Even today, as the abortion industry makes room for a massive influx of federal dollars, the Left's leadership still refuses to admit that such a deal exists. As it has in the past, FRC Action compiled a list of eight new reasons why abortion is included in President's plan.

1. The legislation specifically includes it. The President's bill to amend the Senate bill leaves several abortion provisions in place. In Section 130, the legislation allows tax credit subsidies for plans that include abortion and leaves the abortion surcharge in place. It maintains the proposal to create a multi-state plan that includes abortion in Sec. 1334. Even worse, it would increase the Senate bill funding from $7 billion to $11 billion for community health centers in Sec. 10503 without any abortion restrictions. (H.R. 3590, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.)

2. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said it is. "And I would say that the Senate language, which was negotiated by Senators Barbara Boxer and Patty Murray...take a big step forward from where the House left it with the Stupak amendment, and I think do a good job making sure there are choices for women...That would be an accounting procedure, but everybody in the exchange would do the same thing, whether you're male or female, whether you're 75 or 25, you would all set aside a portion of your premium that would go into a fund." (Sebelius: Everyone will pay into abortion-coverage fund.)

3. Senate Democrats refused to ban it. Instead of allowing for an up-or-down vote on a Senate amendment similar to the House's Stupak amendment, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) "tabled" the amendment, effectively killing it. (Vote No. 369 S.Amdt. 2962 to S.Amdt. 2786 to H.R. 3590)

4. House pro-life Democrats, even those who support the so-called reform effort, say it is. "The Senate language is a significant departure from current law and is unacceptable." (House Representative Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), February 23, 2010, CBS News) "I think abortion's wrong. The problem is that I've lived too long. When they say they can keep this money separate, I just don't believe it." (House Representative Marion Berry (D-Ark.), March 6, 2010, Arkansas News.)

5. House pro-abortion Democrats say it is. "The good news is that the Senate bill does allow [abortion coverage]." (Rep. Dianne DeGette (D-Colo.), March 5, 2010, Washington Post )

6. The abortion industry sent out alerts in favor of it. The abortion giant Planned Parenthood sent an email to supporters on March 6, 2010 , which said, "President Obama's health care reform... significantly increase access to reproductive health care." (Planned Parenthood alert, March 6, 2010.)

7. Candidate Obama said it would be included, and the Obama administration includes it in its definition of reproductive health care. Presidential candidate Barack Obama stated he "believes that reproductive health care is basic health care." (Rhrealitycheck.org questionnaire, 2008.) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton followed up on this in 2009: "Reproductive health care includes access to abortion." (Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, April 22, House Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing)

8. House Democratic Majority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) has indicated that he wants to fix the abortion coverage problem in the Senate bill. "House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Thursday that lawmakers could draft separate pieces of legislation with abortion language to earn the support of anti-abortion rights Democrats on healthcare reform legislation." (March 4, 2010, The Hill) (Source: Family Research Council)

- Please stand in agreement with this decree, from the Throneroom of the Most High God, over this wicked bill:

Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us. (Isaiah 8:10)

Time to Take Action!

Handy Dandy List of Swing Vote Representatives to Contact on ObamaCare

As we move into what should be the final (and most important) phase of the debate over ObamaCare, it's of course critical that members of Congress hear from as many of their constituents as possible.

And given Obama's speech outlining how he wants Congress to move forward, and Nancy Pelosi's recent statements, it looks like they intent to move forward with using the trick of the Senate budget reconciliation rule to pass this monstrosity. This puts the near term focus on the House.
Below you'll find a list of the names and contact numbers for what appear to be the "swing votes" in the House on this issue. If one of them is YOUR Representative it is VITAL that you contact them now and let them know how you feel . . . (Christian Coalition of America) [Read more]

- Pray that Americans, awake and revived, will follow through, no matter how many times they need to make that call. Intercede for the promptings of the Lord to visit and appoint every citizen with understanding and urgency, that each will remain in this process during this ending phase. Only their voice needs to be heard. Ask that the will of the people, under girding the will of God, be the last and final word.

- Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth. (Psalm 110:3)

ObamaCare Arm -Twisting

ObamaCare Arm -Twisting Going into High Gear

Now that the Obama administration has decided to double-down on health care and demand passage of the Senate version of ObamaCare . . . and the White House has set a timeline of two weeks to get it done . . . it's safe to say that we're about to see some of the most severe arm twisting in political history.

In fact, if you thought it looked bad the first time around, (when the House version passed by only 3 votes, and the Senate version passed that chamber by the bare minimum), you haven't seen anything yet.

Why is that? Because the Democrats decided to forget about a conference committee, (the usual process of ironing out differences between House and Senate bills), and push the existing Senate bill through the House. The problem is that it must be passed WITHOUT any amendments or changes whatsoever. This is because, if it is changed, the Senate would have to approve it all over again . . . and this time there are 41 Republicans, (thanks to Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts), that can sustain a filibuster . . . (Christian Coalition of America) [Read more]

- Praise God for all the mighty work He has performed up to this point and ask that all ungodly behavior be found lacking in its effectiveness to shove this bill down the throats of the American people. Intercede that the righteousness of God show up in each and every back room to prevent this hideous behavior from being successful, whatsoever. Ask that our elected officials refrain from accepting these abuses of power as God hates the kind of darkness that are engineered by force and bribery. Declare their effects useless and powerless, in Jesus name!

- A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back to pervert the ways of justice. (Proverbs 17:23) The king establishes the land by justice, but he who receives bribes overthrows it. (Proverbs 29:4)
