The Daily Brief - Friday, October 16, 2009

"When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness." (Isaiah 26:9)

The Daily Brief

1. Dow closes over 10,000 for first time in a year - Washington Times

The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Wednesday closed above 10,000 for the first time in a year, passing another milestone in its stunning recovery from collapse early this year.

- Thank You for this mark being once again passed but let all people remember the waste and gluttony that led the world into this financial crisis.

- "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." (James 5:16)

2. Deficit of $1.4 Trillion Limits Democrats - Wall Street Journal

The Treasury said the U.S. ran its biggest budget deficit since World War II, a record that promises to complicate Democrats' efforts to enact their agenda.

- Lord, we pray that the leaders of this administration will awaken to the threat that accompanies increasing debt held in the hands of foreign nations.

- "The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender's slave." (Proverbs 22:7)

3. Government-Funded Studies Focus on 'Futile' End-of-Life Care - CNS News

Medical experts say the new research emphasizes the need for doctors, caregivers and families to consider making the feeble elderly who are near death comfortable rather than treating them as if a cure were possible.

- May this nation awake to the worth of the elderly and give them the honor they are due. May we again protect life from conception until death.

- "You shall rise up before the grayheaded and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the LORD." (Leviticus 19:32)

4. Court Urged to Dismiss 'So Help Me God' Lawsuit - Christian Post

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) is asking a federal appeals court to uphold the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging the phrase "so help me God" in the presidential inaugural oath and in prayers at the inauguration ceremony.

- We pray that this nation will reclaim its Christian heritage and will humble itself before God.

- "Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you." (James 4:10)

5. U.N. backs Gaza 'war crimes' report - CNN

The United Nations Council for Human Rights approved a controversial report Friday which said Israel and Hamas committed "actions amounting to war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity" during the December-January war.

- Once again, the nations of the world gathered against Israel and give false reports. May Israel be vindicated for their actions and may the leadership of Israel be aware of any actions they are taking that are contrary to God's will.

- "You shall not bear a false report; do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness." (Exodus 23:1)

6. New U.N. Security Council Members Elected - NewsMax

Bosnia and Lebanon won seats Thursday on the Security Council and will be in the rare position of being subject to scrutiny by the U.N.'s most powerful body while serving their two-year terms. Brazil, Nigeria and Gabon also won easy election.

- Lord, let us not be giving authority to those who are not trustworthy. Let the UN begin to hold nations accountable for their actions.

- "A trustworthy witness will not lie, But a false witness utters lies." (Proverbs 14:5)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem." (Zech. 14:2a)

1. State-backed persecution - Ha'aretz

The methods of harassment and persecution used by the ultra-Orthodox organization Yad L'Achim against innocent, law-abiding Israeli citizens goes beyond the limits of legitimate activity by a civilian body and borders on unlawful. The organization, which has deployed a dense net of activists across the country and the world, is proud of "rescuing" Jewish men, women and children from the "claws" of other faiths and belief systems using coercive and dubious tactics.

2. UNHRC poised to endorse Goldstone's Gaza report today - Jerusalem Post

Despite Israeli lobbying efforts against the Goldstone Report, the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva is set to endorse the document on Friday, a move that will send it on to more powerful UN bodies in New York for action.

SEE UPDATE, BELOW.

3. 'One million refugees headed for Israel' - Jerusalem Post

IDF units responsible for guarding Israel's expansive western border with Egypt said Thursday that there are one million would-be infiltrators from Africa waiting to cross the mostly barrier-less border and enter Israel illegally.

4. Kuwait: Israel killed civilians intentionally - Ynet News

The United Nations' Human Rights Council convened in Geneva on Friday morning to discuss a UN committee's report accusing Israel of committing war crimes in Gaza.

5. Fatah signs truce deal with Hamas - Ynet News

Representatives of Fatah in Ramallah have signed a preliminary truce deal with Hamas, Palestinian sources said Wednesday, despite recent tension over Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' conduct following the Goldstone report.

Update: Goldstone Report

UNHRC adopts critical Gaza report over Israeli appeals
Goldstone 'saddened' Council did not also censure Hamas

Despite Jerusalem's pleas that it will seriously hamper Mideast peace efforts, the United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday endorsed the Goldstone report which accuses both Israel and Hamas of committing war crimes during the conflict in Gaza last winter. At the end of a special two-day session, 25 of the Council's members voted in favor of a resolution that chastised Israel for failing to cooperate with the Goldstone fact-finding mission.

The six countries voting against included the US, Italy, Holland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Ukraine, while several European and Western states were among the 11 abstentions. Britain and France lobbied against the resolution but eventually decided not to vote at all. The Palestinian-backed resolution adopted in Geneva calls for the UN General Assembly to consider the Goldstone report and for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to report back to the HRC on Israel's adherence to it. The report itself calls for the UN Security Council to refer the matter to the International Criminal Court for possible prosecutions if the Israelis or Palestinians fail to investigate the alleged abuses themselves.

Israel and the US have charged that the report is unfair towards Israel, something the mission head Judge Richard Goldstone has repeatedly denied, insisting that he investigated all sides of the conflict. But just ahead of the vote, Goldstone was quoted by AFP as saying that he was "saddened" the resolution being voted upon made no mention of Hamas and its violations. His comments reinforce the assessment of many that the respected Jewish international jurist was "naïve" in agreeing to join the pre-cast Gaz a probe in the first place. (ICEJ News)

* * *

The following prayers over this news were released earlier today by Intercessors for Israel. We join our brothers and sisters in Messiah tonight as, together, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

- Lord, You see that the world is trying to delegitimatize Israel. Yet You have created her for Your glory (Isaiah 43:7). Therefore, arise and defend Your nation.

- We proclaim: LORD [YHWH] brings the counsel of the nations to nothing: He makes the thoughts of the people of none effect. The counsel of LORD stands for ever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations. (Psalms 33:10-11)

- Give Israel's leaders courage and wisdom to continue to speak truth into this situation.

- Thank You for the strong stance that many of our leaders - even President Shimon Peres - are taking against this very slanted report.

- Protect Israel's leaders from all attacks - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
- Use this situation to draw all Israel together in unity.

- Lord Yeshua, raise up many voices in Your Body to take a righteous and public stance against the Goldstone Report.

- Open up the eyes of the Body of Messiah to the worldwide attack on You and Your plans that this represents (Psalms 2:1-6).

- Confound the Adversary's attempts to delegitimatize Israel through his earthly servants.

- Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city. (Psalms 55:9)

- Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion. (Psalms 129:5)

Believing the Unbelievable:
Of Usurpation, Revolution, and Backsliding

How many times have you tried to explain a political situation to a family member, friend, or acquaintance and they look at you like you have three heads, saying, "no, that just can't be"? It happens to me a lot. And it happens because the events of the world are so outrageous that normal people just cannot make the connection to what they have believed in the past would never happen and what is actually happening now. This is exactly how the anti-American, anti-Christian forces in this nation have gotten away with taking over the country, disposing of the Constitution, and are rewriting the very basis of our guaranteed rights and foundational ethics as a nation. Believe it. Our nation is becoming overthrown.

None of us want to believe the unbelievable. But this Constitutional Republic called the United States of America is in fast transition to becoming a socialist state--the antithesis of freedom. This socialist provisional government already has taken over the large portions of the financial and automotive industries, representing a combined 30 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. And the usurpers in Congress are moving fast to bring another 16 percent of the economy under government control with socialized healthcare-- against the expressed will of the people. The government, itself, is the nation's largest employer. That's just the domestic side, the foreign policy side is equally alarming.

The man who occupies the Oval Office has transferred the approval process of missile technology sales to the Commerce Department, paving the way for US missile and space technology to be sold to China. The White House also has agreed to allow the most intrusive Russian inspection of US nuclear sites in history--a move justified by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton saying, "We want to ensure that every question that the Russian military or Russian government asks is answered."

Investigative reporter Daniel Greenfield also writes that Saudi Arabia is directing America's policy regarding Iran. Greenfield says that "the Saudis need to prevent Iran from being a danger to them."

He writes in a recent editorial, "Bolstering his image among Muslims and generating the idea of America as a Muslim country is a key asset in their domestic PR campaign" He says Obama delivers "an Islamized America ready and willing to promote the "Soft Power" agenda of the Saudis." The Lord speaks in Jeremiah 2:11, "Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit." In verse 3:22, the Lord says, "Return you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings." But Israel and Judah were judged because they did not heed the Lord. Is this the unbelievable that we will see? Perhaps, if we remain unrepentant, silent and inactive.

More on Kevin Jennings

Jennings Must Speak Out on his Role in Radical Group ACT UP

We continue to learn still more about the extremism of "safe schools" czar, Kevin Jennings. First, it was how he was "inspired" by Harry Hay--an early homosexual activist who openly defended pedophilia. Now, pro- family activists in Massachusetts have publicized an online video in which Jennings' homosexual partner, Jeff Davis, identifies Jennings as having been a member of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP), a radical group that is highly controversial even among homosexual activists.

ACT UP is best known as the group which, on December 10, 1989, sent 4,500 protesters to St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York to protest the church's stance on homosexuality, condoms, and abortion. Some invaded the cathedral and disrupted the Mass, and one even desecrated the Host during communion. There were 111 arrests, and even many liberal leaders and pro-homosexual groups condemned the demonstration.

While those events were twenty years ago (and we do not know if Jennings was involved), it was only three months ago that Harvard University opened an exhibit titled "ACT UP New York: Activism, Art, and the AIDS Crisis, 1987-1993." Among the key donors to the exhibit was-Kevin Jennings. To the long list of questions Jennings must answer, we can now add the question of both his role in and his viewpoint on the extremism of ACT UP. (Family Research Council)

Terror Alert #1,2

TERROR ALERT #1 -- NEW YORK CITY
AP sources: al-Qaida's Afghan head contacted Zazi

The airport shuttle driver accused of plotting a bombing in New York had contacts with al-Qaida that went nearly all the way to the top, to an Osama bin Laden confidant believed to be the terrorist group's leader in Afghanistan, U.S. intelligence officials told The Associated Press. Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, an Egyptian reputed to be one of the founders of the terrorist network, used a middleman to contact Afghan immigrant Najibullah Zazi as the 24-year-old man hatched a plot to use homemade backpack bombs, perhaps on the city's mass transit system, the two intelligence officials said. Intelligence officials declined to discuss the nature of the contact or whether al-Yazid contacted Zazi to offer simple encouragement or help with the bombing plot prosecutors say Zazi was pursuing. TERROR ALERT #2 -- MINNEAPOLIS
Minneapolis Indictment Stokes Somali Concerns

The indictment of a fourth Minneapolis-area Somali man has the local community wondering whether the flow of Somalis returning to their homeland to fight with the terrorist al-Shabaab movement continues. About a year ago, law enforcement officials began investigating the disappearance of about 20 young Somali men after one, Shirwa Ahmed became the first known American to carry out a suicide bombing attack. He allegedly drove a truck bomb into a government compound in Mogadishu. Two other men are believed to have been shot and killed in Somalia this past summer. Since then, three men have pled guilty to charges they provided material support to al-Shabaab or lied about their involvement with the group. On Tuesday, Abdow Abdow was charged with providing false statements to federal investigators after he was questioned about a road trip. Abdow was pulled over by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Oct. 6. He claimed to have only one passenger with him, when there really were four passengers. Two of the travelers are believed to have crossed into Mexico, where they may have boarded a flight to Mexico City. Their ultimate destination remains a mystery, but the community response points to common sense. (IPT News).
