The Daily Brief - Thursday, October 1, 2009

"Blessed are those servants whom the Master, when He comes, will find watching." (Luke 12:37)

The Daily Brief

1. EMPIRE STATE BUILDING GOES RED FOR COMMUNIST CHINA, SPARKING PROTEST - FOX NEWS

New York is seeing red over the decision to turn the city's highest beacon - and one of America's symbols for free enterprise - into a shining monument honoring China's communist revolution Wednesday night.

- Father, our nation has shown yet another expression of insanity to honor a communist regime responsible for millions of deaths and constant repression of its own people. We ask your forgiveness for these foolish officials in New York, and pray that You will visit them with Your truth.

- "Understand, you senseless among the people; and you fools, when will you be wise?...The Lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile." (Psalm 94:8,11)

2. China to display missiles that could hit American ships - LA Times

For the first time in a decade, Beijing on Thursday will showcase its latest armored vehicles, ballistic missiles and fighter jets in a demonstration of military ambition meant to befit the nation's economic rise. The display of hardware -- part of the nation's 60th anniversary celebrations -- will no doubt stoke national pride. But it's also a chance for China to show an international audience that the world's third-largest economy is investing heavily in defense technology, a strategic sector that Beijing believes will strengthen its regional security and global influence.

- Lord, we entreat your protection against any plan of our enemies to cause destruction in any region of the world.

- "He shall cover you with His feathers and under His wings shall you take refuge." (Psalm 91:4a)

3. World Bank President Says Financial Crisis is Shifting Balance of Power - VOA

World Bank president Robert Zoellick says the U.S. dollar's role as the world's reserve currency may be diminishing as a result of the financial crisis. Although he says the dollar will remain a major economic force, Zoellick says the balance of power is shifting. And as the global financial system evolves, Zoellick says other currencies, including the Euro and the Chinese Yuan could become increasingly attractive alternatives.

- Once again, Lord, as Your Word unfolds before us, we pray for Your mercy over America and its people. Remember the roots of our nation, Father, and restore to us Your salvation.

- "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit." (Psalm 51:12)

4. U.S., Iran Hold One-on-One talks on sidelines of Nuclear Negotiations - Fox News

The U.S. and Iran had significant talks on Tehran's nuclear program in a rare one-on-one meeting Thursday. William Burns, U.S. undersecretary of state, and Saeed Jalili, Iran's top nuclear negotiator, held the bilateral discussion in a sign of President Obama's commitment to engage the Islamic Republican directly on nuclear and other issues, a sharp break with the previous Bush administration.

- Lord, as direct negotiation shows weakness before our enemies, we pray that no agreement reached will be harmful to America.

- "Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, 'Be Strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.'" (Isaiah 35:4)

5. Senators turn back ID requirement for immigrant healthcare - The Hill

Senate Finance Committee Democrats rejected a proposed requirement that immigrants prove their identity with photo identification when signing up for federal healthcare programs.

- Lord, we ask Your mercy over our nation for allowing illegal aliens all of the privileges of the citizens of America. We pray that You will visit our leaders with Your truth, and help them protect American citizens from paying for illegals.

- "A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor, so that he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; yet God does not give him power to eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it. This is vanity, and it is an evil affliction." (Eccl 6:2)

6. Head of Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools Expresses Regret for Controversial Incident - ABC News

Kevin Jennings, director of the Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools and founder of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), expressed regret for telling a 15-year old student it was permissible to have a sexual relationship with an adult.

- Pray that this director will repent of his sinful views. An expression of "regret" is not a repentance, but a cover for evil thoughts. Lord, we ask that all radicals within this administration, whose thoughts are continually evil, will be turned from their wickedness and brought into Your Light.

- "Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; do not further his wicked scheme, lest they be exalted." (Psalm 140:8)

7. High Court Agrees to Hear Gun-Rights Case - Wall Street Journal

The Supreme Court agreed to decide whether some state gun regulations violate the Constitution, the second phase of the justices' re-examination of the right to bear arms in the 21st century.

- Pray especially that the conservative members of the Supreme Court will be wise in their administration of this case, and that Your truth will come to the more liberal justices.

- "A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel." (Proverbs 1:5)

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"O Israel, you have destroyed yourself; but in Me is Your help. I WILL be your King: where is any other that may save you in all your cities?" (Hosea 13: 9-10)

1. Rocket hits western Negev; IAF strikes Gaza tunnels - Ynet News

Palestinian gunmen fired a Qassam rocket from the northern Gaza Strip towards Israel on Wednesday evening. The Color Red alert system failed to sound, but a loud explosion was heard near a kibbutz in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council.

2. Saudis: We did not agree to help Israel strike in Iran - Ynet News

Saudi Arabia denied Wednesday morning a report in the British paper Sunday Express saying that Riyadh had agreed to allow Israeli Air Force jets to use its airspace in the event of an attack on the Iranian nuclear facilities.

Failure Is an Option--The Public Option

For people on the sidelines of yesterday's health care showdown in the Senate Finance Committee, the biggest stunner wasn't the defeat of the public option-- but the fact that it died in this Committee under friendly fire. With help from five key Democrats, the Republicans finally put liberals on the run in the first two major offensives in the fight over government-controlled health care. Senator Jay Rockefeller's (D-W.Va.) amendment, which would have added a strong public health insurance option to the exchange, fell first, beat back by his own Democratic colleagues Senators Max Baucus (D-Mont.), Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.), and Thomas Carper (D-Del.). Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) tried next with an amendment that was a watered down version of the public plan. His proposal also failed, but unlike Rockefeller's amendment, Schumer's measure did have the backing Senators Carper and Nelson.

Despite the victories yesterday, it would be premature to eulogize the public option just yet. While the plan may be dead in the Senate Finance Committee, it's still very much alive among the Democratic leadership. As plenty of people have pointed out, both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) have promised to inject the public option in any final bill.

With the focus temporarily off of the public option, the Senate Finance Committee continued its final mark-up today with votes on FRC's key issues like health care rationing, conscience rights, and abortion. Unfortunately, all the pro-family amendments offered today failed, further guaranteeing taxpayer funding of abortion and health care rationing will be included in the final version.

As Congress deliberates, voters are getting increasingly anxious over another aspect of the President's plan--a mandate that threatens to throw Americans in jail who don't have a government-defined health care plan. (Of course, the irony is that everyone in prison gets free health care!) The Joint Committee on Taxation confirmed this last week when its Chief of Staff, Tom Barthold, sent Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) a hand-written note, which said, "Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 fine." Sen. Ensign was quick to argue that the Constitution doesn't give the government the power to mandate the purchase of insurance. Still, this President has given every indication that he will not be content until he not only regulates health care--but the lives of the patients too. (Family Research Council)

No ENDA in Sight

Pro-homosexual activists continue to press for a sweeping agenda--but now from the inside of the government, not the outside. John Berry, a homosexual activist who heads the Office of Personnel Management, admitted recently that passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is only the beginning. "If we can get ENDA enacted and signed into law, it is only a matter of time before all the rest happens," he said. "It is the keystone that holds up the whole bunch, and so we need to focus our energies and attention there." ENDA would pave the way for opening the military to homosexuals, and then for repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Meanwhile, the Boston Globe reports that the cause of homosexuals in the military will soon get a boost from an article in the Pentagon's top scholarly journal. Air Force Col. Om Prakash has reportedly written that "it is time . . . to implement repeal of the ban." The Globe repeats the nearly universal myth that "[t]he law stipulates that gays in the military must keep their sexual orientation secret." The actual law says that "persons who demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts would create an unacceptable risk" to morale and discipline. That was true in 1993, and it's still true today. (Family Research Council)

Too Busy For The Military?

. . . our dear president has shown little interest in spending much time with General Stanley A. McChrystal, the man in charge of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. The general shocked official Washington last weekend when he truthfully answered a reporter's question and admitted that since his appointment he has spoken to Obama a grand total of one time.

It isn't surprising that Obama couldn't find time until today to get briefed by McChrystal. The general says our soldiers on the front lines need reinforcements. He is requesting more weapons, supplies, and 40,000 men. But the man whose slogan was "Yes We Can!" can't say "yes" to General McChrystal without igniting outrage among large portions of his leftwing supporters. So he is saying "Not just yet," stalling while our military tries to deal with a strengthening enemy that smells weakness in the Oval Office. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; excerpt; 9/30/09)

White House Yields US Sovereignty To Global Governance

The man who occupies the Oval Office committed an unconstitutional and possibly a treasonous act in yielding the sovereignty of the United States of America's free market economy to the rule of the International Monetary Fund at the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh September 25. This act of international socialism was hailed by the news media as a breakthrough in global economic reorganization and the establishment of a global economic government for the 20 nations that control 90% of the world's economy. An international body will soon control the US economy and the entire world has taken a gigantic step toward the prophetic one world order of the antiChrist.

After the G-20 meeting, Obama explained the G-20 agreement, "our new framework will allow each of us to assess the others' policies, to build consensus on reform, and to ensure that global demand supports growth for all." He continued, "we will strengthen national capital standards . . . We will create more powerful tools to hold large global financial firms accountable . . . And we will tie executive pay to long- term performance." He also said that the G-20 agreed to no longer support the global fossil fuel industry in order to reduce global warming. In straight talk, the US will no longer develop fossil fuels, a global IMF body will manage US banks, and executive pay will be determined by global governance.

This is no less than a Constitutional abortion performed by a man with proven Marxist ties. He has egregiously subverted Constitutional requirements of Senatorial consent by appointing socialists "czars" to run aspects of the government, has violated the 10th Amendment by fomenting the government takeover of the financial and automotive industries, and by attempting to complete a socialist coup against the Constitution by establishing socialized medicine and taxing Americans for the unproven science, yet socialist issue, of global warming. America is truly at a crossroads where the Constitution has been suspended through political usurpation.

The Bible is very clear that the antiChrist will arise and control all the nations. The prophecy clock on the one world order has ticked forward toward the midnight hour. A new day is soon to come where world finances are controlled by a global body of bureaucrats and politicians, paving the way for the one prophesied in Revelation 13:17, "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." Americans need to wake up and stand against this ungodly and unconstitutional revolution being forced upon them. And Christians around the world need to open their eyes for the coming deception that they are not caught in the snare of satan.

Pray for the Philippines

Dear praying saints,

Please pray for the Philippines (my native country) especially the flooded areas. It's been hit by the worst flood in 42 years. My Philippine home is in Marikina, one of the badly hit areas by the flash floods. There were villages that were completely submerged in water.

Thank God, my family and our house there are safe. Not even our basement is flooded - praise God. I think that God meant it to be because our house became an instant relief and evacuation site. My two brothers' 13 kids are all accounted for. However, they are far from being out of the woods. Two more strong typhoons are heading their way and they still do not have power, no clean drinking water, no access to food stores and transportation and millions are homeless, after losing everything. Hundreds of bodies have not been accounted for. The mud left by the receding waters are up to their waist.

Please pray. Thank you.

A FATHERS LOVE INDEED

One day, a son asks his dad "Daddy, would you like to run a marathon with me?".. The father says "yes". And they run their first marathon together. Another time, the son asks his dad again "Daddy, would you like to run a marathon with me?". The father says "yes son". One day, the son asks his father "Daddy, would you run the Ironman with me?" The Ironman is the most difficult triathlon ever (4 kms swimming, 180 kms biking, 42 km running). And the dad says "yes". The story looks simple until you watch the following clip. Just amazing?
