Outcome: "The Equality Act"

The "Equality Act"

From Gary Bauer

Campaign for Working Families

The so-called "Equality Act" passed the House of Representatives Friday. Every Democrat voted for it, and all but eight Republicans voted against it.

It does many things, like amending civil rights law to include "gender identity." And it contains the kind of broad language that the courts have used for decades to force radical social change on the American people.

The legislation tramples on privacy rights and eviscerates the legal definition of women and girls. It will likely lead to the end of girls sports by forcing them to compete against biological men, which is already happening.

It will make it more likely that your wives, daughters and granddaughters will be forced to share locker rooms, bathrooms, showers and dorms with men and boys.

But there's more. It will be hard to defend religious liberty because it declares that the rights of various sexual minorities trump religious liberty.

Fortunately, the Equality Act will be stopped in the Senate. Over the weekend, several Republican senators pledged to me that they would do everything possible to prevent a vote. If by some chance it did get a vote and passed, I am confident that President Trump would veto it.

But here's what is so disturbing and revealing: In 1993, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) passed the Congress. It reaffirmed that the First Amendment was a paramount principle in our republic and that religious liberty took precedence in government policy.

That bill passed unanimously in the House of Representatives. It passed the Senate 97-to-3. It was signed into law by Bill Clinton.

The Equality Act just passed essentially repeals RFRA. The position of Republicans has not changed since 1993. The vast majority of Republicans continues to support religious liberty.

What has changed is the Democrat Party and so-called "progressives." They went from near unanimous support of RFRA in 1993 to throwing religious liberty under the bus in 2019.

Share this fact with your children and grandchild who might be tempted by the siren song of the left. (Read more)

Focus on Israel

1. Israel, Hamas said to agree to six-month ceasefire in Gaza - Times of Israel

Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement for a six-month ceasefire along the Gaza Strip's border with Israel, Channel 12 news reported Monday.

According to the report, the agreement includes a Hamas obligation to halt violent incidents along the border fence, maintaining a buffer zone 300 meters from the border; an end to the launching of incendiary balloons at Israeli communities and nighttime clashes between Gazans and security forces; and a stop to flotillas trying to break through the maritime border between Gaza and Israel.

In return, Israel will once again allow fishing at up to 15 nautical miles off Gaza's coast, enable United Nations cash-for-work programs, allow medicine and other civil aid to enter the Strip and and open negotiations on matters relating to electricity, crossings, healthcare and funds.

2. Hamas And Israel Deny Report Of Six Month Truce - Jerusalem Post

Israel and Hamas have denied reports that a Gaza ceasefire understanding had been reached that would ensure six-months of calm.

Channel 12 news on Monday night reported that a truce had been reached, sparking a chain of Israeli political reactions and diplomatic denials.

According to the report, Hamas agreed to end clashes with IDF forces along the Gaza border, with Palestinian rioters keeping to a 300 meter distance from the border.

Hamas also agreed to end its night raids against IDF units along Israel's southern border. During those six months, no new flotillas would be launched in an attempt to break Israel's maritime blockade of Gaza, Channel 12 reported.

3. US invites Israel to Bahrain confab on Palestinians - Times of Israel

Washington has invited Israel to participate in an American-led Mideast peace conference expected to take place in late June in Bahrain, Channel 13 reported Monday, citing a senior Israeli official.

The official told the network the invitation was sent as a hardcopy, which is en route to Israel in diplomatic mail channels.

Israel was expected to accept the invitation, the official added.

Israel's Finance Ministry had earlier told the Associated Press that it had not been invited.

4. MKs advance bill to expand cabinet, giving Netanyahu more coalition leeway- Times of Israel

Knesset members on Monday voted to advance controversial legislation that would expand the number of cabinet posts, in an effort to woo potential coalition partners into the government.

Casting their first legislative vote of the 21st Knesset, MKs voted 65 to 54 in favor of the bill to expand the cabinet from its current 21 members to an expected 26-28. The measure would cancel a 2014 law limiting the cabinet to 18 ministers that was temporarily amended in 2015, during coalition talks after that year's election.

Having received government approval, the measure will now need to pass two further Knesset plenary votes before becoming law, a move the government wants to complete by the end of the week.

5. Hamas opposes Trump's Bahrain workshop meant to incentivize Palestinians - Jerusalem Post

Hamas released its first response to the upcoming Bahrain workshop scheduled for June, which is seen as a prelude to US President Donald Trump's Middle East peace plan. "This is the beginning of the Deal of the Century," the terrorist group proclaimed, according to Maariv, the Hebrew-language sister publication of The Jerusalem Post.

"We demand from Bahrain and its noble people not to allow the Israeli occupation, the murderers of the Palestinians, to desecrate their land," they stated.

Hamas has ruled the Gaza strip since 2006 and has been engaged in armed conflicts with Israel ever since. They voiced their opposition to "any economic, political or other step that could be a prelude to the Deal of the Century," according to a translation by Maariv reporter Yasser Okbi.

The oil-rich Arab nation of Bahrain located in the Persian Gulf has warmed up to Israel in recent years, in part due to concern over Iran's influence in the Arab world.

The Daily Brief

1. Call for Trump impeachment draw equal parts praise and disdain - Fox News

Talk of impeaching President Trump has not waned since the release of the Mueller report last month, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle weighing in on the issue.

Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., became the first Republican to publicly accuse Trump of engaging in "impeachable conduct" stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's lengthy investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election - earning the little-known congressman praise from Democrats, derision from Republican leadership in the House, and a mixed response from other lawmakers.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., praised Amash during an interview on CBS' "Face The Nation" on Sunday and said that the Michigan congressman "showed more courage than any other Republican in the House or the Senate." (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that Justin Amash be brought to repentance, along with all of those who embrace this agenda. The constant attacks against this President are egregious and unwarranted.

"For the Lord loves justice, and does not forsake His saints; they are preserved forever. But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off." (Psalm 37:28)

2. Republicans in tough races embrace LGBT issues despite backlash risk - Washington Examiner

A collection of Republicans in Congress are embracing equal rights for the LGBT community, ignoring grumbling from social conservatives and the risk of drawing a primary challenger to take a position proving increasingly beneficial in political battlegrounds.

This week, three vulnerable senators - Susan Collins of Maine, Cory Gardner of Colorado, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina - were feted at a fundraiser hosted by American Unity Fund, a GOP-aligned group that raises resources for Republicans who support equal rights for the LGBT community. Gardner could face pockets of resistance from social conservatives back home, and so could Tillis, who already is saddled with a primary challenger trying to outflank him on the Right. Neither Tillis nor Gardner appears concerned. (Read more)

- Father, as so many politicians fall away from Your truth and embrace the agendas of the left, we pray for Your move across our nation. We repent, Lord, for allowing the encroachment of agendas that take people away from You.

"I cried out to God with my voice - to God with my voice; and He gave ear to me."(Psalm 77:1)

3. Trump administration wants users to report 'political bias' by social media platforms - Washington Examiner

The White House announced a reporting tool to let people share instances of political bias by social media platforms.

"The Trump Administration is fighting for free speech online. No matter your views, if you suspect political bias has caused you to be censored or silenced online, we want to hear about it!" the White House said on Twitter Wednesday, linking to their new reporting form. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for this hope that the President will be able to stop the blatant censorship of Your people on social media.

"But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Psalm 73:26b)

4. Sheryl Sandberg: Facebook Working with FBI Ahead of 2020 Elections - Breitbart

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg revealed in a recent interview with CBS This Morning that the social media giant is working with the FBI and Homeland Security ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections.

The Daily Mail reports that in a recent interview with CBS This Morning, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg revealed that the social media giant is working with the FBI and Homeland Security ahead of the 2020 U.S. election cycle. According to Sandberg, Facebook has "war rooms in place'"and "a working relationship with the FBI and homeland security," aimed at combating any attempts to interfere with the elections.(Read more)

- Father, we pray for the elections to be free of "interference" but we also pray for freedom of speech to be protected. This particular group of people tends to view opinions and facts as "interference."

"Through Your precepts I get understanding, therefore I hate every false way."(Psalm 119:104)

5. DNA tests reveal 30% of suspected fraudulent migrant families were unrelated - Washington Examiner

Some of the migrant families arrested at the southern border weren't actually families.

In a pilot program, approximately 30% of rapid DNA tests of immigrant adults who were suspected of arriving at the southern border with children who weren't theirs revealed the adults were not related to the children, an official involved in the system's temporary rollout who asked to be anonymous in order to speak freely told the Washington Examiner Friday.

"There's been some concern about, 'Are they stepfathers or adopted fathers?'" the official said. "Those were not the case. In these cases, they are misrepresented as family members." (Read more)
- Lord, we pray for an end to this practice, and movement toward a Congressional fix for our immigration policies.

"And you, fools, be of an understanding heart." (Proverbs 8:5b)

6. DOJ: 8-in-9 Non-Citizen Federal Convicts Sentenced Last Year Are Illegal Aliens - Breitbart

More than 88 percent of non-citizen federal convicts who were sentenced last year are illegal aliens who had been living in the United States, a newly released Department of Justice (DOJ) report finds.

Nearly 30,000 non-citizens were sentenced last year for a myriad of federal crimes, data compiled by the United States Sentencing Commission (USSC) reveals, making up nearly 43 percent of all convicts who were sentenced between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018.

Of these nearly 30,000 non-citizen federal convicts sentenced last year, about 8-in-9 are illegal aliens who had been living in the U.S. after either crossing the U.S.-Mexico border or overstaying a visa.

About 8.6 percent of all non-citizen federal convicts sentenced last year were legal immigrants. Illegal aliens made up a majority of the non-citizens sentenced for a number of federal crimes last year.

For example, nearly 64 percent of the non-citizens convicted for drug trafficking last year were illegal aliens. More than 70 percent of the non-citizens convicted for kidnapping last year were illegal aliens. (Read more)
- Father, we pray for the fix that is needed in our immigration system. We ask that You bring change to the hearts and minds of those in Congress who continually block such legislation.

"I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them." (Ezekiel 36:27)

7. Democrat Pete Buttigieg Compares Christianity To Radical Islam - Daily Wire

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg compared Christianity to radical Islam on Friday during a radio interview with Hugh Hewitt.

Buttigieg made the remarks when Hewitt asked him which form of Islamic extremism he thought posed the greatest overall threat.

"Do you find Iranians' variant of Shia extremism to be more dangerous to the world than the Sunni variant that we see in the Taliban and perhaps in Hamas and some of the more radical elements of Wahhabism?" Hewitt asked.

"Well, you know, not unlike Christianity when it is motivating someone to do something extreme," Buttigieg responded. "It can have a thousand different flavors."(Read more)
- Father, this kind of rhetoric continues to build hatred toward Your people. We declare truth against it, and rebuke the lies. We pray that You will visit him with Your truth.

"A wicked messenger falls into trouble." (Proverbs 13:17)

8. Trump says war will mean 'official end of Iran,' warns 'never threaten the United States again' - Fox News

President Trump fired a social media broadside at the Iranian regime Sunday afternoon, vowing that war between Washington and Tehran would result in "the official end of Iran" before warning, "[n]ever threaten the United States again!" Trump tweeted hours after a rocket landed less than a mile from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, the first such attack since September. An Iraqi military spokesman told reporters the rocket appeared to have been fired from east Baghdad, which is home to several Iran-backed Shiite militias. (Read more)
- Lord, we declare Your Mighty Protection over all American interests after this Iranian rocket attack in Iraq. We pray that everything Iran plans or does will fail.

"No weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17)

9. Utility Halts Natural Gas Hook-ups for NYC, Long Island After Cuomo Administration Blocks Pipeline - Daily Caller

The moratorium is the second to hit New Yorkers in 2019 as a result of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's opposition to natural gas pipelines needed to meet growing demand in the state and New England. "We are not processing new applications for any new customers," National Grid New York President John Bruckner said Thursday. "We'll continue to receive requests for service, but we're not processing them."

New York officials rejected a water permit application for the Northeast Supply Enhancement pipeline project Thursday, claiming it would "result in water quality violations" as currently planned.

For many observers, the rejection wasn't much of a surprise. Cuomo wants the state to adopt his version of the Green New Deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions and end fossil fuel use. (Read more)
- Father, the policies of this "green" agenda are creating havoc in the nation. We pray for those who need water and power to their homes and ask for a real solution to their needs. We also ask that You visit Gov Cuomo and reveal truth to him.

"Happy is the man who finds wisdom." (Proverbs 3:13a)

10. 'Violent' tornado, severe thunderstorm outbreak expected in Texas, Oklahoma as schools shutter over risk - Fox News

A dangerous and potentially "violent" day of weather is developing across the Southern Plains on Monday, as forecasters warn a tornado outbreak and severe thunderstorms could lead to life-threatening conditions -- prompting schools across the region to close. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center issued a "high risk" assessment for the area from northwest Texas into western and central Oklahoma, a huge swath of land with the greatest risk of "potentially long-track and violent" tornadoes developing during the day.

"They have issued a rare high-risk area today, and that means all of the conditions are favorable for tornadoes," Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean said on "FOX & friends." "Long-track, potentially damaging and deadly tornadoes." (For an update on what happened yesterday in these storms, please go here.)

- Father, we stand against these storms, and command them to dispel. We thank You for protecting all who are in the path of these dangerous winds.

- "Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was calm." (Luke 8:24)

What to do Part 4

In What to do Part 3, I promised to give you a very successful model that is working today to change America. Armed with scriptures like Deuteronomy 30:19, "I call heaven and earth as witness this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live," a group of people have put away their religious differences to save lives across America. The pro-life movement has made a bigger difference in the past couple of decades than any other organized religious or political group. Their collaboration, tenacity, perseverance, and commitment to God and to life is changing this country. It is a model to follow.

Think about this--in 1973 the Supreme Court ruled to legalize abortion. In 46 years, no one has been able to overturn that decision. But pro-life forces have prayed and acted until 2019 where the Planned Parenthood abortion mill is being defunded by government; 14 states such as Alabama, Ohio,Kentucky, Mississippi, and Georgia have various forms of abortion bans. Six-week bans have also moved in Missouri and Tennessee legislatures, and have been introduced in Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, South Carolina and West Virginia. The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute reports: "Banning abortion at six weeks has emerged as a leading tactic for antiabortion politicians and activists, with the ultimate goal of challenging Roe v Wade at the U.S. Supreme Court." 'Bama took it beyond that!

During the past decade, prospective mothers may be making better life-death choices. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the total number of reported abortions decreased 24% over the period of 2006-2015, and abortions among women aged 15-19 decreased 41% during the same period. This is all because the pro-life movement, faced with tremendous odds, hatred, even jail time, endured over a 46 year period to make these gains. It took prayer, organization, commitment, patience, and tenacity to just get to this point. This movement, however, is making tremendous progress because it will not and has not given up. Its soldiers work with those who are like-minded and motivated, putting religious and political differences aside. Who would have thought that Alabama would essentially ban abortion and hold doctors accountable?

This is an example of how to change culture. But remember that it has taken nearly half a century and the goal is still not reached. Many people have come and gone, died without seeing the victory. But they were committed. It is going to take the same type of godly commitment and resolve to rid America of the immoral neo-communists who openly hate those who disagree with them as they attempt to remake America into a graven image of satan. America did not get into this position overnight. And it will take a long time to reverse the trend because this is a foundational issue of reeducating our children, changing the emphasis and relevance of the church, organizing politically, and electing good people to office. It's a tall order, and it's hard work, but you asked "what to do?" It starts with taking the first step. Prepare, educate, speak, act.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

The Christian quandary-Political Activation

There is a good deal of debate among the Christian community about whether Christians should be politically active. One could postulate that because Christians have chosen not to be politically active is the reason our nation is in its current condition. If the nation is 80% Christian and its elected representatives do not adhere to Biblical standards, there is a disconnect. Yet people will complain endlessly about the unethical and immoral representation in government and the moral decline of the nation. Romans 12:21 says, "Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good." In a nation where we are given the right to choose our leadership, we should be choosing good leadership that leads wisely.

So, what to do? How do we change the direction of politics in this country? Those who are called to politics should be exercising that calling. The rest of us should be voting for the best candidate. There is an example in the late 1970s and early 1980s that worked really well for Christian involvement in American politics. Christians were able to elect good candidates from the county to state to national levels, including President Ronald Reagan. Christians got involved. They stepped outside the four walls of their churches and took initiative to shape the future of their country. Unfortunately, that passion was not transferred to the next generation of Christian activists. Maybe now is the time.

People often ask how do we change the direction of politics? To me, it's going to take hard work and dedication, much the same as the pro-life movement. In politics, it takes organization. Pastors should encourage those with political interests to gather together and work with others from other churches or Christian organizations. If your pastor doesn't want to do that kind of thing, you can take it on yourself if you are so inclined. Get involved at the local committee level. Political party people are always looking for new faces to be involved. Work with your local party committee and get elected to the leadership of the committees. Then you are in a position to recruit and select candidates. Candidate selection and backing is important.

In the Reagan years, Christians worked hard to takeover local party committees, then county, then state. They had tough skin because the moderates in the party (establishment people who said they were Christians, but stood for anything that kept them in power) fought tooth and nail to prevent the conservatives from having influence. But persistence paid off and there were many good candidates selected and elected. Christians were winning leadership positions in Congress, and we elected a president. Moreover, I believe many were led to Christ in the process. I will leave you with a quote from Noah Webster, which is representative of many of our Founding Fathers: "I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of Christianity have not a controlling influence."

Have a blessed and powerful day,

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government.
