6 Key 2018 Midterm Senate Races to Watch

The dome of the U.S. Capitol is seen behind autumn leaves in Washington, November 5, 2014. Republicans rode a wave of voter discontent to seize control of the Senate, dealing a punishing blow to President Barack Obama that will limit his legislative agenda for his last two years in office.

With the 2018 midterms three weeks away, some on the left are hoping for a "blue wave" to regain control of Congress while others are hoping that conservatives will turn up to ensure that both chambers of Congress stay under Republican control with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

While some are optimistic about Democrats' chances to retake control of the House, the route to retaking the Senate seems less likely with at least 10 Democrats defending seats in states Trump won in 2016. "The challenge is undeniable ... it's an uneven playing field," Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez recently told The Washington Post.
Yet, history has not looked kindly on the party of the sitting president during midterm elections. As PolitiFact notes, the president's party has averaged losses of two Senate seats in midterm elections dating back to 1862. The GOP only has a 51-seat majority as it stands right now, with 47 Democrats and two Independents.
With 35 Senate races up for grabs, there is no telling what could happen on Nov. 6 and who will be most energized to vote in a political climate where most voters don't vote in the midterms.

In the following pages are six 2018 Senate races that are considered toss-ups or are races in which polling data disfavors the incumbent. (Christian Post) Read more.

GOP candidates now 'dead even' with Democrats in most competitive House races, poll finds - Fox News
Democrats' once-cushy advantage in key House races has all but disappeared with just over two weeks to go before November's crucial midterm elections, a new NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll found. While the poll found that Democrats still hold a large advantage overall, in districts rated as the most competitive by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, the parties are now in a dead heat on the question of which one should control Congress.

"It's a barnburner," Bill McInturff, a GOP pollster who conducted the survey with Democrat Fred Yang, told the Wall Street Journal. "There's a switch that's been flipped . . . They are engaging in the campaign and the process."

Whether Democrats indeed are riding a "blue wave" into November remains unclear. Early voting in certain states already has offered positive signs for Democrats. But Republicans can see a silver lining in the latest poll. Overall, the poll found that 48 percent of registered voters would prefer having Democrats in control of Congress, compared with 41 percent supporting the GOP. That 7-point gap has narrowed from the 12-point gap the Democrats had in September. (Read more)

- Lord, we are aware that polls can be manipulated, so we ask that Your people heed Your Holy Spirit and vote according to Your will, and not that of the world's system.

- "And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." (Isaiah 30:21)

Focus on Israel

1. 'A tremendous compliment to Israel' - Israel National News

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara on Monday welcomed Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan at the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem, where he signed the guestbook.

Netanyahu told Qishan, "Welcome to Israel. This the most important visit by a Chinese leader in the last 18 years. It's a sign of our growing friendship. The fact that the Vice President of China came to Israel at my invitation for the Prime Minister's Innovation Conference is a tremendous compliment to Israel and a reflection of the growing ties between China and Israel. And I look forward to our discussions."

Netanyahu and Qishan - who is the most senior Chinese official to have visited Israel in the past 18 years - then held a working dinner together with their entourages.

2. Defense Minister accidentally reveals sensitive information - Israel Hayom

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday
accidentally revealed sensitive information on military manpower.

Speaking at a symposium hosted by the Jerusalem
Institute for Strategic Studies, which was streamed live online, Lieberman spoke of "peak IDF deployment" and went into detail, including exact numbers, which are classified.

Lieberman was commenting on a recent report by IDF Ombudsman Maj. Gen. Yitzhak Brik, which claimed that the army was
unprepared for war.

"Some of Maj.
Gen. Brik's remarks were true, but overall, he was wrong. The IDF has is in peak readiness," Lieberman said.

3. Liberman Warns 'All Options Exhausted' in Gaza - Jewish Press

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in remarks at the start of the meeting on Monday that no cease fire deal is possible with Hamas.

Liberman said Israel has exhausted all of its options on the southern front, adding that nothing short of striking the terrorist group with the "hardest blow" will change the situation in Gaza.

Thousands of Gazans arrive at the border with Israel each week on buses organized by terrorists who are paid by Hamas. According to Liberman, they each receive a fee for every person who is killed or wounded in action, depending upon the level of injury.

4. Border buildup: Israel constructs barriers, deploys tanks on Lebanon line - World Israel News

In recent weeks, residents of the Upper Galilee region have witnessed trucks unload countless mounds of sand and artificial hills slowly rise, with a tank or armored personnel carrier parked atop each one.

"The hills are going up close to the cement barrier the IDF has been building in recent months along the border," with Lebanon, an area resident told Israel Hayom. "Judging from what I've seen, they are being built opposite Hezbollah watchtowers in a manner that allows [Israeli soldiers] to see past the cement wall, into Lebanon."

"While they were building the [cement] barrier, I saw a tank overlooking the work, and now we see the same tank on the hill itself," he said.

5. Israel Exposes Hezbollah Operatives Spying on Border Disguised as Environmental Activists - Algemeiner

The IDF exposed on Monday an observation post near the Israel-Lebanon border used by Hezbollah operatives dressed up as tree-planting environmental activists. The post - the sixth identified by Israel along the border - is located near the Lebanese village of al-Adisa, adjacent to the Israeli border kibbutz of Misgav Am.

Evidence of the existence of five other "Green Without Borders" posts was revealed by Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon in June.

"The well-documented proof of Hezbollah's dangerous provocation verifies that Hezbollah conducts reconnaissance activity near the Blue Line and disguises it as civilian activity, in clear violation of UNSC resolutions 1701 and 1559," Danon told the UN Security Council at the time. "The international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye to Hezbollah's flagrant violations of UNSC resolutions."

The Daily Brief

1. As caravan approaches, Trump warns he'll cut aid to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador - Fox News

President Trump tweeted Monday the United States will begin cutting off foreign aid to countries that have failed to stop a growing group of thousands of migrants marching its way through Mexico and to the U.S. border.

Trump blamed Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador for not being "able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S." Though there were no official numbers, estimates place the lead caravan as having about 7,000 people. A second caravan of about 1,000 people has also left Honduras and is working its way toward linking up with the main group.

"We will now begin cutting off, or subsequently reducing, the massive foreign aid routinely given them," Trump tweeted.

The three countries received about $500 million in funding from the U.S. in 2017.

Trump also tweeted he alerted the military and federal border authorities that the migrant caravan, which originated in Honduras, is now a national emergency. (Read more)

- Father we ask for Godly wisdom for our President as this crisis looms.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who ives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

2. 7,000 Strong Honduran Illegal Caravan to Hit US Border by Election Day - SECOND CARAVAN Starts Up - Gateway Pundit

The illegal migrant caravan is sweeping through Chiapas in southern Mexico on Sunday, their numbers having jumped to over 7,000 overnight from just a few thousand as it became apparent the caravan would not be stopped by Mexico.

After blocking the migrants on a bridge Friday, Mexican officials allowed the migrants to swim and raft across the Suchiate River from Guatemala into Mexico Saturday and then regroup in a riverside park. Mexico also allowed over 600 women and children to legally enter for processing on Saturday. At the current rate the Honduran illegal alien caravan will hit the United States on Election Day November 6, 2018. (Read more)

- Father, why has this "caravan" grown to such proportions? We ask that all hidden things be revealed in a way that Americans will see and understand.

- "Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known." (Matthew 10:26)

3. National Emergency: Trump Alerts the Military on Migrant Caravan - Western Journal

President Donlad Trump took to Twitter on Monday saying that he has put the military and Border Patrol on alert due to the swelling caravan of migrants that is making its way through Mexico to the United States southern border.

He called the situation a "national emergency" saying, "Sadly, it looks like Mexico's Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergency. Must change laws!" (Read more)

- Lord, the Posse Comitatus Act may prohibit the regular military from responding to the border unless Congress acts to allow it. We pray that the President will be advised by those who will help him, and that he will move with wisdom at this critical time.

- "Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it." (Proverbs 8:33)

4. Trump orders Cabinet to cut agency budgets by 5 percent - Washington Examiner

President Trump on Wednesday asked his Cabinet to find a way to cut their agencies by 5 percent, and signaled he wants a leaner, trimmer government after a two-year spending deal that saw defense and domestic spending rise.

"I'm going to ask everybody to come back with a 5 percent for our next meeting," Trump said in a White House meeting with his Cabinet members. "I think you'll all be able to do it."

Trump's order comes amid growing worry among conservatives about rising federal spending. He said he "made deals with the devil" before signing a $1.3 trillion spending package in March that boosted both domestic and military spending, but said he was now determined to reduce spending. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You that the President has moved to cut spending.

"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master."
(Matthew 25:21)

5. FBI investigated Andrew McCabe in 2017 concerning alleged leak about Trump, Michael Flynn, documents show - Fox News

The FBI initiated an investigation in March 2017 concerning an alleged, previously unreported media leak about President Trump and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn -- and since-fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was a witness in the probe, newly released documents publicly posted by the FBI show.

McCabe was fired in March just before his planned retirement by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, following a review by the DOJ's internal watchdog that found McCabe "repeatedly" lied to investigators about his knowledge of leaks to the Wall Street Journal regarding the agency's probe into the Clinton Foundation. In reality, McCabe had authorized a series of leaks, according to the DOJ's Inspector General, and he reportedly is under a grand jury investigation to determine if any criminal wrongdoing took place.

In a September letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., raised "grave concerns" about an "apparent systemic culture of media leaking" among high-level FBI and Justice Department officials to release information damaging to Trump. He cited two text exchanges in April 2017 between now-fired FBI agent Strzok and former FBI attorney Page, in which the two discuss the bureau's "media leak strategy." (Read more)

- Father, as more information is revealed, and knowledge of the lies gets deeper, we ask that You bring about a great move of the Holy Spirit across our nation. More than revelation of the lies, we ask for revelation of our Savior!

- " . . .for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." (Isaiah 11:9)

6. Voter ID Law in North Dakota Upheld by U.S. Supreme Court - Governing

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to toss out an appeals court order that allows North Dakota to enforce its voter ID requirement during the 2018 elections.

The request to toss out the order came from a group of Native American residents who are challenging a new state law that requires voters to present identification that includes a current residential street address. The challengers argued the new rule disenfranchises a disproportionate share of the population because many Native American voters live on reservations without standard addresses.

The District Court agreed and temporarily blocked the North Dakota secretary of state from enforcing the new requirements during the primary elections, but the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocked that court order last month. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You that the voter ID law has been upheld. We must know that the people voting in the elections are citizens and real people.

- "Wisdom is justified of her children." (Matthew 11:19)

7. John Bolton to Meet with Vladimir Putin in Moscow Next Week - Breitbart

President Donald Trump's National Security adviser John Bolton will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin when he visits Moscow next week, Kremlin officials announced on Friday.

In an interview with Russia's Channel One broadcaster, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Bolton would meet Putin as well as other leading officials.

"We are indeed waiting for Bolton to visit Moscow, the meetings are being prepared now. Security Council Secretary [Nikolai] Patrushev is his direct partner," he said. "The Russian Security Council is also preparing for this dialogue. Other meetings are also planned." (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for wisdom for John Bolton as he navigates the difficulties of Russia being in violation of the INF treaty.

- "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness." (Isaiah 5:20)

8. Obama's Operation Choke Point finally unmasked - Washington Examiner

James Madison once wrote that "the rights of persons, and the rights of property, are the objects, for the protection of which government was instituted." While in recent years our political leaders have not always lived up to Madison's vision of government, rarely have they engaged in such blatant disregard for our constitutional rights as they did during Operation Choke Point - a secret program launched under the Obama administration to punish political adversaries.

Operation Choke Point was a plot by President Obama's Department of Justice, the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and other government agencies to cut off banking and financial services for small businesses and industries that they deemed to be political enemies or otherwise undesirable.

Some of these businesses included gun stores, ammunition shops, fireworks stores, small dollar lenders, and home-based charities. (Read more)

- Father, as these nefarious plots come to the surface, we pray that not only will they be brought to light but that You will help our nation to come to repentance for allowing them to prosper in the first place.

- "Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."(Acts 3:19)

9. As AFM illness strikes dozens of children, doctors say CDC is being too cautious - Bakersfield.com

LaMay Axton watched in horror as her granddaughter Cambria stumbled and toppled over as she ran into the kitchen of their house. The 2-year-old tried to stand back up, but couldn't.

"Her little legs just fell from under her, like a marionette doll," said Axton, who lives in Menifee in Riverside County.

Within hours, Cambria was unable to move her arms or her legs. Her diaphragm stopped working, so she needed machines to breathe. In September 2016, doctors determined that she had an unexplained condition called acute flaccid myelitis.

In 2014, more than 100 children in the U.S. suddenly became paralyzed and were diagnosed with the condition, which closely resembles polio. In 2016, another outbreak paralyzed even more children. Two years later, the devastating illness is back.

Federal health officials said this week that 62 cases of acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM, have been confirmed in 2018, and 65 more possible cases are being investigated. Experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say they still don't know what causes the syndrome. (Read more)

- Lord we declare that this attack on our children will stop. We pray for knowledge of the cause, but we stand on the word of God:

- "This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!"
(Job 38:11)

10. Suppression: Theaters Drop 'Gosnell' Movie Despite It Being a Top-Grossing Film - Townhall

When "Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer" was released last week, 668 theaters decided to hold screenings of the independent film. The movie quickly surpassed expectations by grossing $1.2 million on just 668 screenings of the film, Daily Wire reported. It even was put in the top 10 film list. Now, 188 theaters have dropped the film, 15 of which were top-performing multiplexes.

"Gosnell" executives aren't surprised by the move, especially after the up-hill battle they've faced producing and placing the film.

"I can tell you from my experience in 15 years of releasing movies independently, we're in uncharted territories," the film's marketing director, John Sullivan, told Daily Wire. "It is an impacted fall, no doubt about it, but the fact that we've been dropped from theaters where the movie is the number 6 or number 9 movie is just something you don't see. It's hard not to believe it isn't about the content of the movie." (Read more)

- Father, once again the voice of truth is being censored. We pray that You will move on these theaters with the power of Your Spirit to release this important film.

- "For they are not valiant for the truth on the earth." (Jeremiah 9:3)

11. BREAKING! UK Parliament to Vote Today on Abortion Bill - CHPP

(The following information was submitted by a friend of our ministry.)

Please get this out to all prayer warriors. Tomorrow the British parliament will be voting on a bill that would allow abortion for any reason up to 24 weeks. There will only be 2 speeches . . . 10 minutes long . . . allowed on the matter before the vote.

A friend of mine will be the person speaking against it. She needs the word, fire and authority of the Lord on her, and all the prolife MPs to be in the chambers for the vote. The Labor party speaker needs to come across poorly and those MPs held back from attending the vote. This is critical for the UK. Intercessors there are pleading for the support of American and worldwide believers to stand in this fight with them. PLEASE PRAY!

- "Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at His word:
"Your brothers who hate you, who exclude you for My name's sake, Have said, 'Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy.'
But they will be put to shame." (Isaiah 66:5)

Encouragement during these prophetic times

As the election draws near, the headlines in the news appear to be more shrill and threatening. Democrats are supporting the invading caravan of illegal immigrants amassing at the border. The Middle East is in an uproar with "Palestinians" rioting against Israel, hints are surfacing of a US-sponsored "peace" plan that could divide Israel in half, and Saudi Arabia, Turkey and America are all in a diplomatic uproar over a murdered journalist. Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia are recovering from horrible natural disasters. Several unusual earthquakes have stricken Canada. These are among the very prophetically significant events that are accelerating around the world.

Yet the preachers are preaching self-improvement, prosperity, personal empowerment, self-indulgence, and strange theologies. The politicians are bringing about wars and rumors of wars. There are earthquakes, famines and pestilences and persecutions. Jesus prophesied these things would come about. In Luke 21:8,9, Jesus said, "Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draws near: go ye not therefore after them. But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by."

Jesus said that during these times (Verses 16, 17), "And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake." You see, Jesus is telling us of the days to come. They are not going to be easy from the world's eye view. Those who speak in the name of Jesus and preach that false hope that as a Christian all things are going to go well, are false teachers. In fact, Jesus tells us in Luke 21:12 that we will be delivered up to the authorities for His name's sake. Verse 13 says, "And it shall turn to you for a testimony."

In fact, as the days of the world grow worse and worse, and the persecutions increase as do the signs of the times, Jesus has these words of comfort in verses 18-19, "But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls." Jesus promises when he lays out the Great Commission in Matthew 28 that he will never leave you nor forsake you. He also says of your clothing, food and needs in Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." We are to be about our Father's business, seeking the kingdom of God, seizing opportunities for a testimony. We should see these times as a time of victory rather than through a lens of fear. Be encouraged!

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

We want to express our gratitude for her bold stand at the United Nations first of all for Israel, but for many others whose interests have been greatly neglected by the world body over an excessive concentration on condemning Israel. She is a testimony for how God can use those who make themselves available for His plans and purposes.

Nikki Haley Resigns As U.N. Ambassador

Trump praised Haley, saying she had done an "incredible job" and was "somebody who gets it." He said he hoped she would come back to the administration in another capacity, adding, "You can have your pick."

"It has been the honor of a lifetime," Haley said. "It has really been a blessing." She thanked the president, as well as first lady Melania Trump and the president's daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, whom she singled out as a "hidden genius" who had done significant behind-the-scenes work.

Please pray for God's choice to become the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Bind any aspiration for fame and publicity over this important assignment. Release a new true friend of Israel to this post.

Also, please pray for the US Midterm Elections on November 6, 2018. Lift the candidates up to God and pray for His appointed leaders to be elected. Motivate as many as possible to go and vote with the counsel of the Lord. (NPR) Read more here.

Classic Hymns

CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS

"His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself."
(Revelation 19:12)

Lyrics

1 Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne.
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless king
through all eternity.

2 Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o'er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save;
his glories now we sing
who died and rose on high,
who died eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.

3 Crown him the Lord of love;
behold his hands and side,
rich wounds, yet visible above,
in beauty glorified;
no angels in the sky
can fully bear that sight,
but downward bends their burning eye
at mysteries so bright.

4 Crown him the Lord of years,
the potentate of time,
creator of the rolling spheres,
ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
for thou hast died for me;
thy praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.

Sparing Nineveh: US Pledges $300 Million So Iraq's Christians Can Return Home

(Editor's note: HALLELUJAH!)

The problems facing persecuted faiths in the Middle East are too complex to be fixed by money alone. But experts are hopeful that doubling US assistance to Iraq's Nineveh Plains, along with improved understanding of the region's minority groups, will make a major difference for Christians returning there.

A year ago, Vice President Mike Pence pledged direct support to Christians, Yazidis, and other minorities forced out of their homelands in Iraq by ISIS. Religious freedom advocates and groups in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq cheered the news from a US administration that had long promised to prioritize persecuted believers, only to disappoint such groups when-due to bureaucratic hang-ups-the money didn't come.

Now, the Trump administration has engaged leaders on the ground and doubled down on its promise to help. The government's latest multimillion-dollar assistance plan, announced Tuesday, brings the total funding over the past year for religious minorities in Iraq to nearly $300 million, with allocations to rebuild communities, preserve heritage sites, secure left-behind explosives, and empower survivors to seek justice.
. . . The new efforts in the region follow USAID administrator Mark Green's visit to Iraq over the summer with Sam Brownback, the State Department's ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom.

The State Department's first-ever Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom ultimately led top officials to a more nuanced appreciation of the role of Chaldeans, Assyrians, Yazidis, and other persecuted minorities in Iraq, according to Chris Seiple, president emeritus of the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE).

"Whereas USAID provides aid that is faith- and color-blind, it now understands that there are times when it has to provide aid to groups who not only understand themselves as defined by their faith, but who were targeted for genocide precisely because of that self-understanding," he told CT. About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God."
