Focus on Israel

1. New Report Highlights Terror Links of Students for Justice in Palestine - The Algemeiner

The anti-Zionist campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) seeks "to isolate, demonize, and ultimately destroy" Israel with the help of terror-linked financial and ideological supporters, according to a new report by a Jerusalem-based think tank.

Authored by Dan Diker and Jamie Berk of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, the report cautioned against viewing SJP "as a pro-Palestinian equivalent to pro-Israel student groups," noting that it rejects cooperation with organizations that support Jewish self-determination, incites against Jewish students and rejects Israel's existence in any borders.

2. Israel nabs top Islamic Jihad terrorist - World Israel News

IDF forces on Sunday night apprehended a senior Islamic Jihad operative in the Palestinian town of Araba, in the Jenin area. An IDF spokesman stated that the suspect was transferred to security forces for further questioning.

The terrorist was identified as Tareq Qa'adan. He has previously served time in Israeli prisons for terror offenses.

The arrest comes is tension between Israel and the Islamic Jihad are high. The IDF estimates that the Islamic Jihad is planning an attack on the Jewish State following the IDF's demolition of a Gaza terror tunnel some two weeks ago. A total of 14 terrorists were killed in the aftermath of the tunnel collapse, including two senior Islamic Jihad field commanders. The Palestinian terror group has vowed revenge.

3. Netanyahu warns terror groups: Don't even think about it - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Sunday that the country would respond harshly to any attack against it no matter where it comes from.

Netanyahu's comments appeared to be prompted by blustery statements from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group in Gaza, which is threatening Israel with retaliation for the destruction of a terror tunnel it dug under the border into Israel, but they also came amid increasing tension on Israel's northern borders.

Islamic Jihad said earlier Sunday it would not back down on its "right" to retaliate against Israel for the tunnel explosion, which led to the death of 12 terror group members - 10 from Islamic Jihad, including two commanders, and two members of Hamas's military wing.

The "threats to target the movement's leadership is a declaration of war, which we will confront," Islamic Jihad said, according to a statement carried by its media affiliate Palestine Today News Agency. "We reaffirm our right to respond to any aggression, including our right to respond to the crime of aggression on the resistance tunnel."

rime Minister tells Knesset: Israel will "not accept" Iran's permanent presence in Syria and will act against it. Speaking to a special session of the Knesset, Netanyahu said he told Washington and Moscow that Israel will act according to its "security needs."

Netanyahu declared that Iran knows Israel will "not accept" its permanent presence in Syria, adding "I have clarified to our friends in Washington and our friends in Moscow that we will operate in Syria, including southern Syria, in accordance with our understanding and in accordance with our security needs."

5. Israel rattled as 7.2-magnitude earthquake strikes northeast Iraq - Times of Israel

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake rattled northeast Iraq near the border with Iran on Sunday, killing at least 140 people, with tremors reported in parts of central Israel. The US Geological Survey said the temblor was centered 30 kilometers (19 miles) southwest of Halabja, near the northeastern border with Iran.

Some Israelis, especially those living on high floors, from Haifa in north to Beersheba and Ofakim in the south and along the coast, including Tel Aviv, reported feeling the tremor.

Several people posted videos of swaying light fixtures to social media. "I felt like I was on a boat, I thought it was vertigo. Then the building's WhatsApp group filled with messages from people who also felt the tremor," Elad Hopper, who lives in a high-rise building in Hod Hasharon, told the Ynet news site.

There were no reports of damage in Israel.

6. Congressmen: U.S. Ceding Syria to Iran, Causing Rift With Israel - Washington Free Beacon

A large, bipartisan delegation of lawmakers warned the Trump administration on Tuesday that its regional policies are laying the groundwork for Iran to takeover Syria, according to a letter sent to the State Department that urged the administration to present Congress with a plan for combating the Islamic Republic's foothold in the war torn country. Nearly 50 members of Congress who recently returned from a trip to the Middle East warned Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that Syria is falling into Iran's hands, a situation that has caused anxiety among Israeli leaders, according to a copy of the letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The two-page letter includes intelligence that Iran is using Syria to establish weapons factories that arm the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah. If the United States does not take immediate action to combat Iran's presence in Syria it is likely to establish a permanent military foothold in the country, which would endanger U.S. troops and allies such as Israel.

The letter comes as many in Congress on both sides of the aisle have begun to express concerns about what they say is the Trump administration's failure to effectively combat Iran's growing military foothold across the Middle East, including in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, and elsewhere.

- Father, we pray Iran will not be able to establish a foothold in Syria or Lebanon. Cause division between Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Russia so that they cannot accomplish anything together.

- I will bring the four winds against Elam from the four corners of the heavens, and I will scatter them to all these winds. There will not be a nation to which Elam's banished ones will not go. (Jeremiah 49:36)

The Daily Brief

1. Gunman kills 4, wounds others at several California sites, including elementary school - WJLA

Officials said they are investigating seven scenes in connection with the shooting that took place in Rancho Tehama, Tuesday morning that killed five people, including the shooter. According to the Tehama County Sheriff's Office, no children were killed during the shooting Tuesday morning. Officials are not releasing information about the four victims who were killed during the incident. Officials said ten patients are being treated at local area hospitals but their conditions are unknown at this time.

"It's a very sad day for us here in Tehama County," said Undersheriff Phil Johnston as he addressed the media. Johnston said calls came in at 7:52 a.m. about a shooting on Bobcat Lane. Following those calls, more calls came in of multiple shooting sites, including at the school. Johnston said it was clear early on that they had a subject that was randomly picking targets. Johnston added they know that the shooter was engaged by officers shortly after arrival and they believe the shooter was killed by two officers. Both those officers have been secured from the scene. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for the loved ones of the dead and injured, that You will comfort them in their time of great need. We also pray for our nation - that we will turn our hearts to You, corporately and in repentance - so that these shootings will end.

- Thou shalt not kill. (Exodus 20:13)

2. Trump says Asian trade deals will total more than $1 trillion for U.S. - Washington Times

President Trump said Tuesday that he secured trade deals that will be worth over $1 trillion to the U.S. on his 12-day trip through Asia. "We've had a tremendously successful trip," Mr. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after leaving a summit in The Philippines. "It's minimum $300 billion, and that's going to be very quickly over a trillion dollars," Mr. Trump said. "And I would say that's the least significant thing that we accomplished." During the tour that also took him to Japan, South Korea, China and Vietnam, Mr. Trump said his biggest accomplishment on trade was "letting people know that from now on, things are going to be reciprocal."

As he embarked on the 22-hour trip back to Washington, which includes a refueling stop in Hawaii, Mr. Trump even expressed a camaraderie with his traveling press corps. "My press - I feel so sorry for them," he told reporters to laughter. "They're exhausted. And I very much appreciate your time. I know how hard you worked, also. We all worked hard. But I think the fruits of our labor are going to be incredible, whether it's security of our nations, whether it's security of the world, or whether it's trade." (Read more)

- Father, we lift up President Trump and pray his spirit will be encouraged by You. Give him a sense of Your Presence and pleasure for the good things he is doing for our nation.

- When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone's way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them. (Proverbs 16:7)

3. Sessions: DOJ Will Move 'Correctly and Properly' on GOP Request to Investigate Clinton, Comey - CNS News

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Congress on Tuesday that the Justice Department will move "correctly and properly" on a Republican request to investigate matters associated with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) told Sessions that Republicans, "on multiple occasions," have asked the Justice Department to investigate Clinton's mishandling of classified information as well as Comey's decision not to prosecute Clinton. Goodlatte noted that he received a letter from Sessions on Monday, stating that "senior federal prosecutors will review our letters and make recommendations as to whether any matters not currently under investigation should be opened, require further resources, or merit the appointment of a special counsel. Do I have your assurance that these matters will proceed fairly and expeditously?" Goodlatte asked Sessions.

"Yes, you can, Mr. Chairman, and you can be sure that they will be done without political influence, and they will be done correctly and properly," Sessions replied. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for justice to prevail in our nation. Help us permanently remove individuals who have used their political positions for personal gain.

- Justice exalts a nation, but sin is a people's disgrace. (Proverbs 14:34)

4. DOJ Has 27 Leak Investigations Open - Daily Caller

Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified Tuesday that the Justice Department has 27 open investigations into leaks. "We had about nine open investigations of classified leaks in the last three years," Sessions said before the House Judiciary Committee. "We have 27 investigations open today. We intend to get to the bottom of these leaks. I think it has reached epidemic proportions. It cannot be allowed to continue and we will do our best effort to ensure it does not continue."

The president previously attacked Sessions in a July tweet for a perceived weakness when it comes to leak investigations. "Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!" Trump tweeted. Shortly thereafter, Sessions held a press conference with Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats during which the attorney general declared, "this culture of leaking must stop. For those out there who may be listening or watching these announcements understand this: if you improperly disclose classified information, we will find you," DNI Coats said. "We will investigate you. We will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law, and you will not be happy with the result." (Read more)

- Father, we pray each of these investigations will result in the prosecution and conviction of federal employees who have broken trust with the American people.

- "God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, "You must remove the evil person from among you." (1 Corinthians 5:13)

5. Visa Lottery Gave 28,783 to Those From State Sponsors of Terror, 2007-2016 - CNS News

"In the last decade, the U.S. issued nearly 30,000 permanent residence visas through the Visa Lottery to randomly selected nationals from countries designated as "State Sponsors of Terrorism" by the State Department," said the White House in a Nov. 13 email. "This does not include the additional tens of thousands of foreign nationals admitted from these countries through other immigration categories (such as family-based immigration, as well as asylee, refugee, and others)." The three state sponsors of terrorism were Iran, Sudan and Syria.

President Trump wants to replace the visa lottery and chain migration with a merit-based immigration system. As explained by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, "The president's immigration plan would switch us to a merit-based immigration system. He would abolish the Diversity Visa Lottery and replace it with a points-based system like is used in Canada and Australia. This is the best way to ensure that the immigration system in America is benefitting America. "The president's plan is essential to protecting our national security, while also banning drunk drivers, fraudsters, gang members, and child abusers," said the attorney general. "It's time to end the Diversity Lottery in favor of a rational, merit-based system." (Read more)

- Father, we pray each immigrant who has come into our nation will be redeemed or removed through Your hand of providence and grace.

- All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. (Matthew 25:32)

6. The US's most secretive intelligence agency was embarrassingly robbed and mocked by hackers - Business Insider

The National Security Agency, the US's largest and most secretive intelligence agency, has been deeply infiltrated by anonymous hackers, as detailed in a New York Times exposé published Sunday. The NSA, which compiles massive troves of data on US citizens and organizes cyberoffensives against the US's enemies, was deeply compromised by a group known as the Shadow Brokers, which has made headlines in the past year in connection to the breach, whose source remains unclear. The group now posts cryptic, mocking messages pointed toward the NSA as it sells the cyberweapons, created at huge cost to US taxpayers, to any and all buyers, including US adversaries like North Korea and Russia.

"It's a disaster on multiple levels," Jake Williams, a cybersecurity expert who formerly worked on the NSA's hacking group, told The Times. "It's embarrassing that the people responsible for this have not been brought to justice." "These leaks have been incredibly damaging to our intelligence and cybercapabilities," Leon Panetta, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told The Times. "The fundamental purpose of intelligence is to be able to effectively penetrate our adversaries in order to gather vital intelligence. By its very nature, that only works if secrecy is maintained and our codes are protected." Furthermore, a wave of cybercrime has been linked to the release of the NSA's leaked cyberweapons. (Read more)

- Father, we ask You to be our Protector and our Rear Guard. These security breaches have left us vulnerable, and we pray You would minimize the damage that can or will be done.

- There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. Blessed is the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the Lord. (Psalm 144:14b-15)

7. Army lifting ban on bipolar, self-mutilating recruits 'a red flag' - WND

The U.S. Army is lifting an ban on recruits with a history of mental illness as a means of boosting recruiting numbers, a unilateral decision that could damage readiness and actually hurt the effort to recruit quality young Americans to serving their country in uniform. The Army made the decision in August, but it is only making it public now as it fears efforts to recruit 80,000 new soldiers by September 2018 may fall short. Americans who deal with bipolar disorder, depression, self-mutilation or drug and alcohol abuse are now eligible to be recruited, although the Army insists it will screen such applicants vigorously to ensure they are fit for service.

That's not good enough for Center for Military Readiness President Elaine Donnelly. "This is not a good sign," Donnelly told WND and Radio America. "At least one expert quoted in the USA Today story said that when you induct people who have psychological problems, it is definitely a red flag. Those psychological problems often get worse in the military. Rates of suicide in the military are much higher than in the civilian world. Issues of mental competency also are important," Donnelly said. "Mental conditions that detract from readiness to deploy, that interfere with unit cohesion, that contribute to stress and controversy within a given unit, these issues also are important." "It was only last week the new secretary of the Army was confirmed," she said. "So this was a decision made by people from the Obama administration, not the Trump administration. "The person in charge of personnel matters in the Department of Defense hasn't even been confirmed yet, the Trump appointee. So this may be an open issue that may be revisited, and I hope it will be." (Read more)

- Father, we pray this policy to allow mentally ill people to join our military will be quickly reversed. We pray each member of our military will have a sound mind and good judgement.

- But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless. (1 Timothy 3:10)

8. Rand Paul: 'No justification' for 'hitting somebody from behind and breaking their ribs' - Washington Examiner

In his first interview since being sucker-attacked 10 days ago while doing yard work in Kentucky, Sen. Rand Paul said there was "no justification" for what happened. "From my perspective, I'm not really too concerned about what someone's motive is. I'm just concerned that I was attacked from the back and somebody broke six of my ribs and gave me a damaged lung where at least for now I have trouble speaking and breathing and now I've hurt for 10 days," the senator said after arriving back in Washington for a week of critical votes.

Paul, 54, suffered six broken ribs, cuts on his face, and has fluid buildup in his chest. Recovery could take months and the pain is great, he said. No official reason has been given for the attack and the lawyer for Boucher, 59, said politics was not the cause. Social media posts from Boucher show that he is aggressively anti-Trump and anti-Republican. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Senator Paul to make a quick and complete recovery. Ease his pain and comfort him with Your Holy Spirit.

- Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

9. FBI seeks Senate documents, signaling possible probe into sale of fetal tissue - The Hill

The FBI has asked the Senate for unredacted documents it obtained from abortion providers, signaling agents may be investigating whether Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers illegally sold fetal tissue and body parts, according to sources familiar with the document request.

The request was made in recent days, the sources said, to the Senate Judiciary Committee, whose chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), last December referred Planned Parenthood and several other abortion providers to the FBI for investigation after a lengthy probe into the transfers of fetal tissue. Grassley said at the time that his committee had uncovered enough evidence in its final investigative report to show abortion providers had transferred tissue and body parts from aborted fetuses to firms for use in research by charging dollar amounts above their actual costs. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for an end to the abomination of abortion in our nation. Use this investigation to show the callousness and deception within the abortion clinics.

- Therefore pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence. From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits. (Psalm 73:6-7)

10. N. Korea mapping specific plan for 'devastating' EMP - WND

Only a few weeks after a team of experts warned Congress that the nation faces an "existential threat" from North Korea from a possible electromagnetic pulse attack, a new report says the rogue nation is mapping a specific plan.

Paul Bedard at the Washington Examiner wrote in his "Washington Secrets" column that the White House "is being warned that North Korea is mapping plans for a 'devastating' attack on the United States with an atmospheric nuclear explosion that would disable the nation's electric grid, potentially leading to the deaths of virtually all impacted."

He said President Trump "is being urged to create a special commission to tackle the potential for an electromagnetic pulse attack, one similar to the iconic Manhattan Project." (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your shield over our nation. We pray the weapons and intentions of North Korea will come to nothing.

- No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me," says the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17)

Prophetic days racing toward prophetic events

Several people have written to tell me about how they are dropping out from watching or reading the news. They call it a "news fast." It seems as though the headlines are so full of hate-filled acts, confusion, war, natural disasters, suffering, and even plagues that some people just can't take it anymore. It is information overload in a very dark way. I have to admit as someone who observes news and events, these days are among the worst I've seen in a journalistic career spanning 46 years. While the previous decade was marked with identifiable prophetic news, the past year has been outright chaos driven by hate and division-not only in the United States, but around the world.

Indeed, these times we live in seem to be an ever-increasing time of trouble. While we are not in the time of Jacob's Trouble (Biblical tribulation), these are prophetic days in that they are racing toward prophetic events. These are times when events are coming into alignment so that prophetic events will come about. We see the hearts of men growing cold through terrible rhetoric. There are natural disasters taking place in the Middle East such as the earthquake in Iran. Israel is deploying defenses against increased terror attacks. Saudi Arabia is in upheaval. There is famine predicted in Yemen. Major leaders oppose one another on one front, and are allies on another. Relationships are disrupted and strained.

These events test faith. They pressure our senses. They can cause conflict within the mind. They may prompt withdrawal from society-such as "news fasts." Taking a break from it probably isn't a bad idea-some time to rethink, regroup, refresh. But it doesn't make it go away. We are a prophetic people living in prophetic times. Our challenge is to make disciples in this dark and dying world that offers up so much clear and present danger. We cannot shrink from our Great Commission, otherwise the world gets darker. Resist the temptation to bury your talent. These are times when our talent should be invested and multiplied.

If you are feeling the pressure of events running out of control, remember what Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Recall the word of God in Psalm 46:1-2, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea." Nahum 1:7 says, "The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knows them that trust in him." The noise of the news, the events that shape the words in the mouths of the world, are of no effect to those who trust in the Lord. Stay focused on the Lord. He is your refuge.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns

AND CAN IT BE THAT I SHOULD GAIN?

"The angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, 'Arise up quickly.' And his chains fell off from his hands." (Acts 12:7)

Lyrics

And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior's blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain- For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

'Tis mystery all: th'Immortal dies: Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine. 'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more. 'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father's throne above So free, so infinite His grace- Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam's helpless race: 'Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me! 'Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature's night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray- I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

Still the small inward voice I hear, That whispers all my sins forgiven; Still the atoning blood is near, That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven. I feel the life His wounds impart; I feel the Savior in my heart. I feel the life His wounds impart; I feel the Savior in my heart.

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine; Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th'eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own. Bold I approach th'eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

The Good News Corner

The Gates of Solomon's Desert Fortress Discovered in Israel

(Israel) - [Breaking Israel News] What are likely to be Solomon's gates, as described in the Bible, have been uncovered at the Biblical Tamar Park in southern Israel. Paul Lagno, Bible student and participant in a five-day dig at the Biblical Tamar Park, said that the discovery gives evidence to the Biblical account of Judean control over Tamar.

"The Bible says that Solomon built a fortress in the desert. The archeologists are sure that they have found all the hallmarks of the gate of Solomon - all the hallmarks of the fortified city. They believe this was a fortress built by Solomon," Lagno told Breaking Israel News.

"The archeological evidence is consistent with 1 Kings 9:19, where it says Solomon built Tamar in the wilderness," he explained. "In addition, the pagan altars destroyed by King Josiah as described in 1 Kings 13:3 were also found, right outside of the gates."
