The Daily Brief
1a.Irene could be "once-in-50-year" Hurricane - AccuWeather
Hurricane Irene is now on a path that could take it dangerously close to, if not over, the mid-Atlantic coastline and New York City on Sunday, posing a serious danger to millions of people.
1b. b) Hurricane Irene Bears Down on Millions in Eastern US - VOA News
Tens of millions of people in the eastern United States are bracing for Hurricane Irene, which forecasters say could be the biggest storm to strike the area in more than half a century. It brings the threat of heavy wind, rain and flooding after punishing the Caribbean late Thursday with winds as high as 185 kilometers per hour.
- Abba, we thank You that in the "eye of the hurricane" is Peace! And that the name of this hurricane, Irene, means "peace!" We ask that Your peace will be with Your people, who put their hope and trust in You. We know that Your Name is a strong tower and we can run into it and be safe! Your Name represents all that you are: our Shelter, our Deliverer, our Peace, our Wisdom, etc. We pray for those who do not know you to reach out to You at this time, and come to hide under the shadow of Your wings! We pray for the safety of the 65 million Americans who are now living in the path of this storm, and for wisdom, skill and strategy for all emergency personnel who must guide our people through this threat. Amen!
- "If you say, "The LORD is my refuge, and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." (Ps 91:9-12)
2. Hurricane Irene risk forces first-ever NYC shutdown - USA Today
NEW YORK - City officials ordered nearly 300,000 residents to leave waterfront neighborhoods and announced the impending shutdown of the city's vast transit system, two unprecedented precautionary steps forced by the threatened fury of Hurricane Irene.
Nursing homes and five hospitals in low-lying areas of the city began evacuating Friday. Residents of coastal areas including Brooklyn's Coney Island and Rockaway Peninsula and the Battery Park City neighborhood in Manhattan must leave for higher ground by 5 p.m. Saturday, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
"We've never done a mandatory evacuation before now and we wouldn't be doing it if we didn't think this storm is going to be serious," he said. "We don't have the manpower to go door-to-door and drag people out," Bloomberg said. But, he added, ignoring the evacuation order means "people might die." Read more.
- Perhaps this is a coincidence, but . . . one day after Mayor Bloomberg announced that no clergy would participate in the memorial service for 9/11 . . . here comes Irene. Indeed, in assessing this situation, the mayor stated that Irene is "heading basically directly for us . . ."
Cry out that all in authority would truly seek the face of God as they make policy decisions for our people; and that repentance would come forth when a mistake is made. It is written: "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
- As a nation, what impacts New York City will impact the whole country, in time. And New York City is the home of the United Nations -- where the nations are due to vote on September 20th to divide the land of Israel, creating a Palestinian state. God have mercy upon us!
Pray that, as we gaze upon New York City taking the bullseye of this storm, we would come to understand this truth. "Those who curse you (Israel) I will curse, and those who bless you I will bless." (Gen. 12:3) Pray that President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and "all in authority" continue to OPPOSE this vote, and will uphold the sovereignty of an undivided Jerusalem and an undivided Israel. Pray!
3a. Washington Monument received more Earthquake Damage than first thought - Huffington Post
Shortly after the rare 5.8 earthquake in Virginia rattled Washington D.C. Tuesday, a Park Service spokesman said there was "absolutely no damage" to the Washington Monument.A more thorough assessment discovered a crack in the monument. Not long after, additional damage was found, including three or four "significant" cracks. The monument was not the only structure affected. The National Cathedral sustained damage worth an estimated millions in repairs.
3b. Hurricane Irene Poses no new threat to Washington Monument - Fox News
The National Park service says the Washington Monument is not in any danger from Hurricane Irene. A temporary sealant has already been applied to the crack caused by Tuesday's earthquake, says NPS spokesman, Bill Line. The sealant will prevent water from seeping in and causing more damage. Line emphasizes that the monument has survived hurricanes, high winds, and rainstorms in the past. The National Weather Service currently has the District of Columbia (Christ) and Metropolitan Areas under a Tropical Storm Warning.
- Abba, thank You that our times are in Your hands, that nothing comes as a surprise to You. We thank You that though the earth be shaken, You are our Stability. You are our Rock, and a firm foundation. The mountains bow down, and the seas roar at the sound of Your Name. We praise You, the Creator of this Universe, and we ask that all of creation will bring praise to You alone!
- "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." (Ps. 46:1-3,11)
4. Irene throws Obama another Curveball Amid Push to refocus on Economy - Fox News
Nevertheless, the storm and its aftermath pose another mess for Obama and Congress to deal with at a time when the administration is looking to roll out a new jobs plan for the nation. Money and time spent on storm recovery is money and time the federal government doesn't have for new economic proposals.
- Even kings and princes must bow to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. It is being reported tonight that Obama has canceled the rest of his trip on Martha's Vineyard, cutting short his vacation with his family. Now that his plans have been disrupted by a Power greater than himself, lift up a prayer that our own sitting "king" in the Oval Office would begin to ponder and to realize the limits to his authority. May he bow to the One True God, and find our Lord as his own Savior, Redeemer and Friend. Amen.
- "On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS." (Revelation 19:16)
5. Market crash 'could hit within weeks', warn bankers - UK Telegraph
A more severe crash than the one triggered by the collapse of Lehman Brothers could be on the way, according to alarm signals in the credit markets."I think we are heading for a market shock in September or October that will match anything we have ever seen before" said a senior credit banker at a major European bank.
- Father, we know we are now in a season of "men's hearts failing them for fear" . . . financial fears, fears of 'natural disasters', etc. etc. We thank You that You are our Source, and You alone have taken responsibility to supply all that your people need! We pray that these current unstable events occuring, would cause many to turn to You for the answers, and trust You for wisdom and direction. Our Hope is in You!! Amen!
- "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Ps 73:26)
6. All eyes on US Fed's Bernanke for more stimulus - Breitbart
US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke takes center stage Friday facing hopes from around the world that he will shore up faith in the US economy and offer more stimulus to boost business.
- Lord, we know that no man can "fix" this . . . only You . . . so we look to You for answers, wisdom, and provision. Thank You! Amen!
- "For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." (2 Chron. 20:2)
7. Trillion-dollar deficits seen for years to come - Washington Times
The government will run another $1.3 trillion deficit in fiscal 2011, Congress' chief scorekeeper said Wednesday in a report that highlighted both an economy that will struggle over the next few years and a federal budget showing massive red ink for the foreseeable future.
- Lord, again we thank You that You hold our future in Your Hands! We thank You for Your wisdom, and Your peace, that passes all understanding. Again, we ask that You would "woo" those on Wall Street, and those with earthly fortunes, to put their lives in your hands, and their fortunes! Deliver them from fear, and cause them to funnel wealth into your kingdom . . . which has far greater "returns" than any earthly enterprise! Amen.
- " For after all these things the nations seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matt 6:32-34)

The Daily Jot
Of evil intent and repentance
Iranian madman president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has gone off on one of his tirades again. He says that Israel should be eradicated because it is a symbol of "suppression and discrimination." The ISNA news agency reported that Ahmadinejad told a Lebanese television network, "Iran believes that whoever is for humanity should also be for eradicating the Zionist regime as symbol of suppression and discrimination. Iran follows this issue (eradication of Israel) with determination and decisiveness and will never ever withdraw from this standpoint and policy." He made his remarks as part of the annual Qods Day preparation, where Iranians are to hold anti-Israel demonstrations the last day of Ramadan.
In these days of political civility, it is amazing that a leader of a nation would be able to get away with that kind of speech. He is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran is run by Islamic Sharia law. When Ahmadinejad speaks, he is speaking for Islam, you know, the peaceful religion. Strange it is, that under the current man who occupies the Oval Office that America is assisting the Muslim Brotherhood--a worldwide organization that wants to establish Islamic law globally--in taking over Libya (where nearly a billion dollars of US taxpayers' (your) money was used), Egypt, Syria, Yeman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, a Palestinian state, and who knows where else.
Yes, many of these nations are rivals, but they agree on one thing--the destruction of Israel. And Americans are sending money to these evildoers. Our president is helping them take over countries in the name of democracy and self determination, when in reality that is just a ploy to establish Sharia Law. The latest example is Libya where its new "Constitution" states at the very beginning that the nation will be governed by Sharia law. That means that the Koranic passages about killing Christians and Jews are taken very seriously. Your tax dollars are going to these nations whose leadership wants nothing but to destroy Israel and America.
The Bible says in Isaiah 5:20, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter." Then verse 23 concludes, "Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!" Now here is a hard word: It is wrong for America to support any of these governments who wish to destroy Israel. We are spending billions on them, many of whom are terrorists. Your money and mine is going into the pockets of those who are killing innocent people. Who will be held accountable, especially since God blessed us with having a choice in our leaders? This is only one example of our need for repentance.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

A Personal Note . . . and a thank you!
Dear Friends,
I want to thank the MANY of you who have called, written and sent us email messages this week, asking if we survived that earthquake intact, and if we are now prepared for the oncoming hurricane.
What a week this has been!
Yes, after that quake, we are all safe and sound and no one among our team was injured in any way.
Along with you, we now await the impact of Hurricane Irene, whom the forecasters here in Washington, D.C. state will arrive tomorrow evening as a tropical storm.
The good news is that the stores out there are jammed tonight, with shoppers grabbing supplies for expected power outages. Praise God that these folks are taking the warnings seriously!
But as we write this brief message to you tonight, the truly GOOD NEWS is that EVERYONE around here seems to realize that "something is up" and that, as we stand in between an earthquake and a hurricane, it is time to take stock.
We pray that, for the East Coast, this may be the hour we have all been waiting for: when men's hearts are turned to look beyond themselves for an answer to our desperate state. May we all be ready to give these panic- stricken citizens the answer they seek: salvation through the Blood of Messiah and the true peace that He will bring into our hearts.
And so, in closing, I would invite all of you to join me in prayer tonight that God would meet these lost souls, right where they are, and that He would use these "circumstances of nature" to transform a nation.
"Can a nation be saved in a day?"
The answer is: YES!

Good News for Jerry Buell
Monday I told you about Jerry Buell, a "teacher of the year" in Mount Dora, Florida, who was suspended from his job due to his support for traditional marriage. I'm pleased to report that the local school board has voted to reinstate Buell, finding that he did not violate the code of ethics.
However, at least one media report indicates that Buell is still under investigation. The superintendent of schools gave Buell "a list of directives he needs to follow," and officials are reportedly combing through school web pages and his class syllabus. All because he dared to express his opinion on marriage. Welcome to the brave new world of left-wing "tolerance." (Gary Bauer)
- We want to thank all of our prayer partners for lifting up int\ercession on behalf of Jerry Buell, the former Teacher of the Year. His reinstatement is clearly an answer to prayer!

Lord I will worship You,
nothing hands have made,
but to You alone.
I will lay down my idols,
thrones I have made,
all that has taken my heart.
Lord, I will bow to You
to no other god,
but to You alone.
