The Daily Brief - Tuesday, November 24, 2009

"Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name." (Hebrews 13:15)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Dems: Failure Not an Option on Health Care - Fox News

Failure is not an option on health care, a leading Democratic senator said Monday, even as Republicans turned up the heat on moderates who hold the fate of the legislation in their hands.

• Heavenly Father, despite public opinion about not wanting this healthcare, the Democrats are pushing this onto the people. We pray they will not succeed. We have too much debt and we cannot afford this healthcare.

• The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. (Proverbs 22:3 NIV)

2. Obama will send 34,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan - Yahoo News

As it now stands, the plan calls for the deployment over a nine-month period beginning in March of three Army brigades from the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky. , and the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y. , and a Marine brigade from Camp Lejeune, N.C. , for as many as 23,000 additional combat and support troops.

• Heavenly Father, we pray that you change this situation quickly, so our troops receive the necessary help they need including the surge and all equipment as soon as possible. We pray a strong hedge of protection around all our military wherever they are.

Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause. (Psalm 25:3)

3. Sarah Palin Dines, Prays With Rev. Billy Graham - Fox News

Sarah Palin on Sunday dined and prayed with the Rev. Billy Graham, who has counseled presidents and other politicians for decades.

• We thank you, Lord, for bringing forward people who love you to serve our nation from the highest posts to the lowest. We pray that you will give us godly leaders who honor and obey you. Remove all corrupt leaders out of position of authority quickly.

For the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that He may see no unclean thing among you, and turn away from you. (Deuteronomy 23:14)

4. Reported Hate Crimes Surge in 2008, FBI Says - Fox News

Reports of hate crimes against gays and religious groups increased sharply in 2008, according to new FBI data released Monday.

• Heavenly Father, we pray against this hatred and violence. We pray that people will have wisdom to address the different issues and not resort to these tactics. We pray there will not be discrimination against Christians and the practice of their religion.

So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19)

5. CBO: By 2019, Taxpayers Will Pay $196 Billion A Year for Obamacare, But 24 Million People Will Remain Uninsured - CNS News

Under the health care bill introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday, by 2019 taxpayers will be paying $196 billion per year to subsidize other people's health insurance coverage, but there still will be 24 million uninsured people in America, according to the Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation.

• Lord, this unsustainable healthcare bill is not a good action by our government. We pray you will block all actions that will burden our nation with more debt. Let a strong and loud voice rise up from the citizens against all unscrupulous actions by our leaders.

"I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. (Proverbs 8:12-13)

6. Lawyer: 9/11 Defendants Want Platform for Views - ABC News

The five men facing trial in the Sept. 11 attacks will plead not guilty so that they can air their criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, the lawyer for one of the defendants said Sunday.

• Father God, we pray for Your justice to be done to these terrorists. We pray these trials will not be on our soil and in our civil courts, but that many judges will stop this action to bring the terrorist to trial here. Let them be tried in military courts.

Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. (Psalm 37:1, 2)

7. Hundreds Mourn Mich. Boy Allegedly Slain by Father - AP

Relatives say Jamar's father, Jamar Pinkney Sr., was irate over allegations that his son had sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl and made him strip at gunpoint, marched him to the lot and shot him as he begged for his life. Prosecutors have charged him with first-degree murder and jailed him without bond.

• Heavenly Father whether or not this was another honor killing, we pray that parents will not discipline their children with violence. We pray for the new immigrants to refrain from honor killing and for this violence against children in our nation to stop - from abortions, child abuse, or molestations.

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. (Psalm 127:3) But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. (Psalms 37:11)

4. Abbas: We won't launch a third intifada - we've suffered enough - Jerusalem Post

5. Hamas confirms progress on Schalit - Jerusalem Post

Gold Stars For Genocide

We have all seen how Barack Obama has been humiliated by Iran eleven months into his presidency. Countless times, Obama has stressed the importance of "engagement" and finding "common ground" with the Iranians regarding their nuclear ambitions, while they promise genocide by "wiping Israel off the map." Iran's response has been to continue to fund terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, to continue to deny the Holocaust and, today, to stage large air defense war games in anticipation of an attack on their nuclear facilities. They are buying time and bolstering their defenses.

Sadly, Obama is implementing a foreign policy based on appeasement even for countries like Sudan that have committed genocide. Earlier this month, the New Republic, a liberal magazine, published an article on Scott Gration. Gration is Obama's special envoy to Sudan, and was one of Candidate Obama's foreign policy advisors during last year's campaign.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Gration describes his mentality when dealing with the corrupt and genocidal Sudanese government: "We've got to think about giving out cookies. Kids, countries - they react to gold stars, smiley faces, handshakes, agreements, talk, engagement." Is this also a description of Barack Obama's foreign policy? The report goes on to describe Gration as a man "with an almost utopian theory about international relations." Obama and Gration are perfect for each other - they think the same way!

What kind of message does this send to other countries when the leader of the free world coddles genocidal dictators? For dictators committing crimes against humanity against their own people, the message is clear: the United States will give you cookies and gold stars if you promise to play nicely with others. You know things are bad when Obama's approach to foreign policy is too naive even for the liberal New Republic. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; November 23, 2009)

Cyber Attack Imminent??

FBI Suspects Terrorists Are Exploring Cyber Attacks

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking at people with suspected links to al Qaeda who have shown an interest in mounting an attack on computer systems that control critical U.S. infrastructure, a senior official told Congress Tuesday. While there is no evidence that terrorist groups have developed sophisticated cyber- attack capabilities, a lack of security protections in U.S. computer software increases the likelihood that terrorists could execute attacks in the future, the official warned.

Former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, shown here in Washington in September, says al Qaeda has some cyber-attack capability. If terrorists were to amass such capabilities, they would be wielded with "destructive and deadly intent," Steven Chabinsky, deputy assistant director of the FBI's Cyber Division, told the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday. "The FBI is aware of and investigating individuals who are affiliated with or sympathetic to al Qaeda who have recognized and discussed the vulnerabilities of the U.S. infrastructure to cyber-attack," Mr. Chabinsky told the committee, without providing details. Such infrastructure could include power grids and transportation systems. (The Wall Street Journal) Read more

Spy vs. spy: DOD tracks insider threats

The Defense Department has made sniffing out insider threats a major priority in securing its networks. As cyber threats expand, DOD must contend with the possibility that authorized network users could maliciously or accidentally expose systems to attack or exploitation. Those concerns have been the catalyst for DOD's identity management and desktop security efforts. Internal attacks can take different forms, including an accidental or intentional introduction of malicious code or attempt to export classified or sensitive information. Existing systems often struggle to find insider threats because they rely on identifying who or what is accessing the network. However, new technology can detect threats by their behavior instead of identity. (Defense Systems) Read more

Thanksgiving Greeting from NDP

These are busy days personally and I believe for the entire body of Christ as well. It seems as if Thanksgiving came quickly upon us but I am particularly thankful to our Lord for raising up so many who are eager to enter His presence and be about His business this year. I am grateful for relationships that honor Him in my life, giving instruction, accountability, fellowship and unconditional love. I pray He may lead us all to be generous with those who are in need this Thanksgiving because it all comes from His hand.

At this time of celebration I also want to ask you visit our website to watch a powerful video that honors the fallen from Ft. Hood, Texas. It concludes with a simple picture of this profound loss. As you view, listen to God's heart and pray for all families suffering loss this year and for salvation for the spiritually lost.

". . . Lord we are indeed grateful for all who serve to protect our freedom."

[Thank you, Lisa, for sharing this powerful video, and Thanksgiving message, with all of us at Capitol Hill Prayer Partners. Amen.]

Thanksgiving Prayer Alert

Intercessory Prayer Initiative - PRAYER ALERT - 11/23/2009

As Thanksgiving approaches many will be traveling to spend time with their friends and families, and others will be crowding into stadiums to watch their favorite teams play. Our nation has much to celebrate having been spared national terrorist attacks since 9/11/2001. But we must recognize that it is the grace of God that has kept us from experiencing another major attack on our soil. If we humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways and pray He has promised to heal our land (2 Chron. 7:14).
