The Daily Brief - Tuesday, November 17, 2009

"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Senator Plans to Filibuster Obama Judicial Appointee - Fox News

The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee says he intends to filibuster one of President Obama's nominees to the federal appellate bench, saying that he is going to play by what he calls the changed rules governing the nomination process of federal judges. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., decried the current "sad state of affairs" involving the nomination process when he told reporters Monday afternoon that he intends to filibuster Judge David Hamilton's selection to the Chicago-based Seventh Circuit Court of U.S. Appeals.

· Heavenly Father, we pray that You block the appointment of this abortion advocate and any nominations for the judicial benches if they do not follow your laws.

· Their judges are overthrown by the sides of the cliff, and they hear my words, for they are sweet. (Psalms 141:6)

2. Illinois Leaders Split on Taking Guantanamo Detainees at State Prison - Christian Science Monitor

To overcome a congressional ban on detaining the suspects on US soil, local support for the move would likely be key - a hurdle helped over the weekend by strong backing from Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) and Sen. Richard Durbin (D). Both touted the idea as a rare opportunity to bring some 3,000 jobs and up to $1 billion over four years to a part of the state in desperate need of an economic jolt.

· Lord, we pray our leaders will quickly block this transference of the Gitmo detainees to the U.S., through the courts and laws that ban detaining suspects on U.S. soil. Give us good judges to support this block. Let the people cry out.

· But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them. (Proverbs 24:25)

3. Obama Admin Slashed 60,000 Jobs From Recent Stimulus Report - ABC News

The Chicago Tribune noted that the administration said $4.7 million in stimulus money for schools in north Chicago had saved the jobs of 473 teachers, but the school district only employed 290 teachers. The statistics - claiming that stimulus money had helped save or create 14,330 school jobs in Illinois - were "riddled with anomalies that raise questions about their validity."

· Lord, at over one million dollars per job that was supposedly saved, we pray that this excessive spending be stopped. Expose all the lies of this administration, and give us leaders that will be honest and trustworthy in all their actions.

· The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. (Proverbs 11:3)

4. Time Crunch Looms for Health Bill - Wall Street Journal

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is pressing to advance his version of health-care legislation passed a key juncture this week in a bid to avoid a timing crunch that could otherwise kick the proposed revamp into next year.

Republicans will likely filibuster the "motion to proceed," which simply allows the Senate to begin debate. Delaying consideration of the bill until 2010, an election year, could jeopardize its chances and turn the intricacies of the Senate timetable into a political tool for the bill's opponents.

· We thank You Lord, that there has been a delay and dissension over this costly healthcare bill. We cannot afford any more debt, so please continue to block it.

· Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; Speak the word, but it will not stand, For God is with us." (Isaiah 8:10)

5. Holding Gitmo Trials Far From Prison Could Cause Complications, Analysts Say - Fox News

Charles Stimson, a former deputy assistant defense secretary for detainees, said with the Obama administration considering rural Illinois, and several other remote locations, to house the suspects, defense counsel will find "great choices" to pursue their cases.

"You will seek a venue that benefits your client every time," Stimson said.

· Heavenly Father, we pray this transfer by the Obama administration of the Gitmo detainees to the U.S., will be blocked by judges. Let a strong effective voice by the citizens rise up against this action to stop it from happening.

· "Do not let the swift flee away, Nor the mighty man escape; they will stumble and fall toward the north, by the River Euphrates. (Jeremiah 46:6)

6. Fed 'Attentive' to Dollar, but No Action Appears Imminent - USA Today

It's rare for a Fed chairman to discuss the U.S. currency, which is the Treasury Department's domain. But a weak dollar can have larger impacts, such as igniting inflation as the cost of imports rises, says Joel Naroff of Naroff Economic Advisors. The dollar has declined 16% against the euro since early March.

· Heavenly Father, give our nation wisdom, and leaders who know how to manage our money. We pray for all who are being affected by this economic downturn.

· I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. (Psalms 37:25)

7. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Won't Say If Abortion Curb is Health-bill Killer - NY Times

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand rallied with pro-choice advocates Monday to rail against abortion restrictions in the House health care reform plan - but she refused to say if the issue is a deal breaker for her. Feminist icon Gloria Steinem urged lawmakers not to compromise on the issue. "Represent the majority of the country or pay the price in 2010," she warned.

· Thank You Lord, for strong leaders who included this ban on abortion coverage. Let this be the issue that brings this healthcare to nothing.

· "The Lord will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you set your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your doings in which you have forsaken Me.

" For ever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven." (Psalm 119:89)

1. Hamas: Israel lying to justify next war - Jerusalem Post

Hamas on Saturday claimed IDF reports that the group had test-fired long-range rockets were an Israeli attempt to justify a new military operation in the Gaza Strip, DPA reported.

2. The Secret Palestinian Plan - Fox News

A senior Palestinian official tells Fox News in the next few weeks the Palestinian Authority is planning to call for Palestinian statehood through a UN resolution -- a similar maneuver to that by which Israel was created.

3. Netanyahu to PA: If you make unilateral moves, so will we - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned on Sunday that Israel might take unilateral steps if the Palestinians did not return to the negotiating table.

4. PA confirms PLO to take over parliament - Ynet News

Salim Zanoun, chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), confirmed Sunday evening that the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) was planning to take over the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).

5. Ministers stiffen positions toward unilateral Palestinian state - Ynet News

The political stalemate continues, the Palestinians are planning on declaring a state of their own, and the Syrian option is again on the table. The cabinet ministers convened Sunday morning for their weekly meeting and showed that the recent developments have resulted in a hardening of positions -- at least publicly.

Obama Works to Ban All Firearms

On Wednesday (Nov. 11th -- Veterans Day) Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States

On Wednesday the Obama administration took its first major step in a plan to ban all firearms in the United States. The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.

The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public. We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment. - When will the American people rise up and say "Enough!"? This news requires prayer AND action. First, pray that a groundswell of opposition to this news will arise among our citizens, because our "right to bear arms" is guaranteed by our Constitution. Next, call your own congressman and senators and voice your opinion on this matter. PRAY!

- "Thy people shall volunteer freely in the day of Thy power." (Psalm 110:3 NAS)

Case Dismissed?

Will the civilian trial that Hussein Obama has committed to providing for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) be thrown out of court? It could be. The president, by his decision, has granted KSM all the rights we have as American citizens under our beloved Constitution. One of those rights is the right to an attorney. The courts have ruled that when you are arrested you must be informed of that right and told you have the right to be silent until you confer with an attorney. That is called the "Miranda warning."

Mohammed was not given a Miranda warning for reasons obvious to everyone - except the gang currently running our country. KSM is not an accused bank robber or mugger - he is a foreign enemy - a soldier of Islam. The first motion in this circus trial could very well be a motion to dismiss because of the failure to provide a Miranda warning.

Are you angry yet? There's more. While this administration worked overtime to ensure that KSM would enjoy the rights of the civilization he wants to destroy, Obama still hasn't been able to decide whether he wants to win the war in Afghanistan. He still has not made up his mind about whether to grant our soldiers the reinforcements they need to win.

Finally, consider this: Under our laws, KSM can act as his own attorney. By doing so, he could have access to the most sensitive secret documents about our knowledge of Al Qaeda and its terrorist network. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Nov. 16, 2009)

Senate May Vote This Week to Fund Abortion in Health Care

Despite the pro-life victory when Congress passed the historic anti-abortion funding amendment sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R- Penn.), the Senate could begin debate on the health care bill this week without any guarantee the government will pay for abortions!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) may begin the process next week and he does not plan on keeping the "Stupak-Pitts" pro-life amendment in the Senate version of the bill. Senator Reid is expected to take up the House bill, and then replace it with a "Senate substitute" which will fund elective abortions. To do so, Senator Reid must start with the House bill for technical reasons since he has failed to craft a Senate bill yet.

Senator Reid will have to file a "motion to proceed" to the House bill, and this "motion" needs 60 votes before he can replace the bill with the Senate "substitute" that will use taxpayer funds for abortions -- this vote must be stopped and may happen as early as Thursday! E-mail your Senators and urge them "to vote No on any procedural vote to move to the health bill unless Senator Reid's version of the bill contains the Stupak-Pitts amendment to ban government funding of abortion."

Contact Your Senators and ask them to oppose the "Motion to Proceed" on the Health Care bill unless Senator Reid includes the Stupak-Pitts anti-abortion funding amendment. (Family Research Council)

The Daily Jot

Are Some American Leaders Enemies of the State?

In the days following the Ft. Hood terrorist attack, the man who occupies the Oval Office has made several statements that should give US citizens a clear indication that its White House is complicit in supporting Islamic terrorism over the best interests and safety of the American public. Obama's first statement on November 5: "We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident and I want all of you to know that as commander in chief, there's no greater honor but also no greater responsibility for me than to make sure that the extraordinary men and women in uniform are properly cared for and that their safety and security when they're at home is provided for."

By this time, the news media and others who were following the attack closely knew that the killer was Islamic and had shouted "allah akbar" before opening fire on the soldiers. The very next morning on November 6, Obama told reporters "This morning I met with FBI Director Mueller and the relevant agencies to discuss their ongoing investigation into what caused one individual to turn his gun on fellow servicemen and women. We don't know all of the answers yet, and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all of the facts." Eight days later he asked Congress to delay any investigation of the shootings until the Administration's was complete.

His next statement was on Sunday, November 8. By this time, the world knew that terrorist Nidal Hasan was a radical Islamist believing in the right of Muslims to kill American soldiers. In response to the Fox News question, "What separates an act of violence from an act of terrorism?", Obama replied: "Well, look, we -- we have seen, in the past, rampages of this sort. And in a country of 300 million people, there are going to be acts of violence that are inexplicable. Even within the extraordinary military that we have--and I think everybody understands how outstanding the young men and women in uniform are under the most severe stress -- there are going to be instances in which an individual cracks."

At the Ft Hood memorial service on November 10, he said, ". . .no faith justifies these murderous and craven acts." Is Islam a faith or is it a combative enemy force? The Koran actually does justify murderous and craven acts against anyone who does not submit to Islam. So far, Obama has tried to downplay that Hasan was an Islamic terrorist and characterize the Ft Hood incident as a random act that any American could have committed. His remarks are consistent. Why would a president take such a position that portrays Americans as possible random killers and favors Islamic terrorism in detriment to the safety of the American people? Matthew 24:4 says, "Take heed that no man deceive you."

Fort Hood Update

After Fort Hood shootings, no force-wide changes in Army base security

An Army official today confirmed that no force-wide alterations have been made to existing security measures across Army bases in the U.S. in wake of the Nov. 5 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 people. "Security conditions for our bases have not changed . . . but we have encouraged all installations to review their security procedures and status," said Lt. Col. Lee M. Packnett, Army Office of the Chief of Public Affairs, Media Relations Division. Published reports have said Army bases had been locked down, while others detailed the current security measures taken at specific bases, including ratcheting up of patrols and other moves to ensure base safety. According to Packnett, security measures are based on a threat level. The Defense Department determines a basic, force-wide level of security threat across U.S. military installations, which it can raise or lower according to circumstances. Individual installations, such as a particular Army base, can increase their threat level, and therefore their own security measures, based on local situations or events. No installation may decrease its threat level below that determined by DOD. (Defense Systems) Read more.
