NIGHTWATCH Update

NIGHTWATCH Update:

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

The Lion of Judah continues to roar through the night on this NIGHTWATCH.

We have just completed standing on the wall during day (night) #4 of this 21-day prayer assignment.
In addition to praying over the Daily Brief, we also "go beyond" to other prayer burdens, as well. Last night, for example, the deep burden of the Lord was towards the protection of our nation over this coming weekend, when Antifa has planned to launch violent protests on the anniversary of the Charlottesville "disaster" last year.
We travailed long and hard over this issue, including unmasking those who are coming in from out of state, as "paid actors" -- even cutting off their funding sources.
Many other issues were lifted before our Lord, too . . . including calling forth a Roll Call of the States under the Blood of the Lamb.
Come join us if you can. We welcome all of our prayer partners to "enter in" to the closet of prayer with us!

1. Disabled protesters block Ben Gurion Airport - Israel National News

Approximately 30 activists from the "Handicapped Become Panthers" group blocked traffic leading into Ben Gurion Airport Tuesday afternoon. The blockage is part of the renewal of the protests demanding that the disability pension disabled citizens receive from the state be equal to the minimum wage.

During the demonstration, activists blocked the road and shouted slogans such as "We want justice, not charity," "Justice for the handicapped, not for the rich," and "Shame on the government."

2. PA demands full authority in Gaza - Israel National News

The Palestinian Authority (PA) cabinet headed by Rami Hamdallah, which convened in Ramallah on Tuesday, called on Hamas to abandon its stance against unity and end its control over Gaza.

The cabinet also urged Hamas to refrain from negotiating Palestinian national principles in exchange for humanitarian aid at the expense of the Palestinian people and to transfer all the governmental powers in Gaza to the hands of the PA.

Hamdallah noted that the PA had not imposed any punitive measures against the Gaza Strip as had been reported. Hamdallah explained that the measures are temporary and include the deduction of wages from some public sector employees. He added that the PA invested $96 million in Gaza in the month of July.

3. Hamas official says truce with Israel to be inked within weeks - Times of Israel

A senior Hamas member signaled the terror group was optimistic regarding efforts to broker a ceasefire with Israel Tuesday, saying talks on an agreement would likely wrap up by the end of August. In addition to the United Nations and Egypt, the Hamas official told Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency that Qatar and Turkey are also helping to oversee the talks.

According to the unnamed Hamas member, the deal would see the permanent opening of the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt and an easing of strictures on the flow of goods through the Kerem Shalom crossing with Israel.

4. Hamas delegation heads back to Cairo with response to proposed deal with Israel - Times of Israel

Hamas leaders meeting in the Gaza Strip have completed their deliberations on a UN-led proposal for a ceasefire with Israel and will soon head back to Cairo with their response.

"The Hamas leadership delegation that arrived in Gaza last Thursday will return to the Egyptian capital Cairo bearing the vision of the movement regarding all files that were discussed," Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh told a meeting of Palestinian politicians in the Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas-linked Palestinian Information Center.

The Israeli government will also discuss the proposal on Thursday, with cabinet ministers summoned for a meeting on the situation in Gaza, Hebrew-language media reported.

5. Palestinian Islamic Jihad Leaders Meet With Russian Officials in Moscow, Drawing Israeli Concern - Algemeiner

Officials from Gaza Strip-based Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) met on Tuesday with Russian officials in Moscow, drawing concern from Israel. A delegation led by PIJ Deputy Secretary-General Ziad al-Nakhla and other senior leaders, including Mohammed al-Hindi and Anwar Abu Taha, first arrived in the Russian capital on Monday.

During an "in-depth and lengthy" meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov the following day, PIJ officials emphasized the importance of Palestinian national reconciliation and their opposition to the Trump administration's efforts to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, the Islamist group shared in a statement. Bogdanov - who also serves as Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy for the Middle East and Africa - said in turn that Palestinian factions need to unify under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization in order to establish an independent state, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Daily Brief

1. 12th Congressional District: Republicans declare Troy Balderson the winner - The Columbus Dispatch

National Republicans are saying Troy Balderson has overcome a huge deficit among early voters to narrowly beat Democrat Danny O'Connor in the nationally watched 12th Congressional District special election. "I'm proud that my fellow central Ohioan, Troy Balderson, will join me in Congress," said Rep. Steve Stivers, head of the GOP's congressional campaign committee.

"Congratulations to Congressman-Elect Balderson on his hard-fought victory tonight. Nancy Pelosi and her liberal donors flooded this district with money and ads in an attempt to buy this seat. However, Troy's focus never wavered from the issues central Ohioans care about like fighting opioids, creating jobs, and lowering taxes."

If it stays extremely close, the outcome may rest on ballots that won't be tabulated for another 10 days: those from provisional voters and absentees mailed in from overseas and the military. Once that final total is calculated, Ohio law requires a mandatory recount if the margin is with 0.5 points.

Regardless of the special election outcome, which determines who serves the few months remaining on former Rep. Pat Tiberi's term, the two major party candidates will meet again in November to decide who gets the full two-year term. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for this conservative win, and pray other candidates who support President Trump's agenda will win decisively this November.

- "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan." (Proverbs 29:2)

2. Devin Nunes says 'pay close attention': Top Obama DOJ official Bruce Ohr will become 'more and more important' - Washington Examiner

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said on Monday that Bruce Ohr, a former top official in the Justice Department, will become "more and more important" as GOP lawmakers look for evidence of power abuse and corruption at the highest levels of the Obama administration.

Nunes was referring to findings that suggest Christopher Steele, the former British spy who compiled the Trump dossier on behalf of the Clinton campaign, kept supplying allegations to the FBI after the 2016 election, even though by that point he was terminated as a source by the bureau for giving confidential information to the media.

Congressional investigators have found that Ohr, who was the fourth-highest ranking official in the Justice Department, acted as an intermediary between Steele after he was terminated as a source and the FBI's investigation into ties between the Russians and President Trump's 2016 campaign. When Ohr gave the bureau information from Steele, agents made a record of it, and those records are in the form of so-called 302 reports, in which the FBI agents write up notes of interviews during an investigation. 3. Sessions rips federal judge for 'improperly' reinstating DACA, 'eviscerating' executive power - FoxNews

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday unloaded on a federal judge who ordered the administration to reinstate the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy last week, saying the ruling was "improper" and vowing to keep up enforcement efforts against illegal immigration "aggressively." Sessions added that the judge had effectively "eviscerated" the legal authority of the executive branch and Congress, and strongly suggested the administration would appeal the ruling.

The Trump administration announced last year it would end DACA, which was implemented by the Obama administration using executive authority and protects illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children from deportation. Federal judges have since barred the administration from ending the program entirely, saying it would be acceptable only to shut down future enrollment in DACA because existing applicants had already relied on it. But the ruling by U.S. District Judge John Bates went a step further by ordering authorities to essentially reinstate DACA in full.

"The executive branch's authority to simply rescind a policy, established only by a letter from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, is clearly established," he said. "The Department of Justice will take every lawful measure to vindicate the Department of Homeland Security's lawful rescission of DACA." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the abuse of power by federal judges will finally be addressed legislatively and through the courts.

4. Trump looking to limit citizenship for legal immigrants who use public welfare programs: Report - Washington Examiner

The Trump administration is working on a proposal that would make it harder for legal immigrants to obtain citizenship or acquire green cards if they've used public welfare programs, including Obamacare, according to a new report.

A draft of the plan described to NBC News shows the administration could prevent immigrants living legally in the U.S. who have used Obamacare, children's health insurance and food stamps, among other benefits, from obtaining citizenship. Using Social Security Insurance already made it harder for immigrants to get legal status.

White House senior adviser Stephen Miller is spearheading the proposal, which NBC said would not need approval from Congress. Immigration lawyers, advocates and public health researchers told NBC News the proposal could affect more than 20 million immigrants. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these common sense limitations upon citizenship will be implemented as soon as possible.

- For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. (2 Thessalonians 3:10)

5. More Job Openings Than Unemployed Workers For Third Consecutive Month - ZeroHedge

There was a surprising development back in June, when that month's JOLTS report revealed a curious, if welcome for the US economy, inflection point: for the first time in reported BLS data, the number of US job openings surpassed the number of unemployed workers.

Fast forward two months, when as the BLS reported last Friday, the number of unemployed workers increased from 6.0 million to 6.3 million. The question was whether this increase would also reverse this Opening-Unemployed trend. For the third month in a row the number of job openings stayed above the total number of unemployed workers. In other words, in an economy in which there was a perfect match between worker skills and employer needs, there would be zero unemployed people at this moment (which of course is not the case.)

Meanwhile, last month's biggest surprise, the record number of Americans quitting the job - the indicator which shows worker confidence that they can leave their current job and find a better paying job elsewhere - dipped modestly in June, but still just shy of a record. (Read more)

- Father, we pray those on the sidelines - those who have given up on a good job - will re-enter the workforce, seizing the opportunity to improve their lives.

- Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16)

- For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13)

6. Bozell: Socials Banning InfoWars 'Not Just a Slippery Slope, It's a Dangerous Cliff' - CNS News

Media Research Center (MRC) President Brent Bozell issued the following statement Monday in response to Facebook, Apple and Spotify removing "The Alex Jones Show" and other InfoWars content. In April, MRC released an extensive report detailing censorship by social media companies. MRC President Brent Bozell: "I don't support Alex Jones and what InfoWars produces. He's not a conservative. However, banning him and his outlet is wrong. It's not just a slippery slope, it's a dangerous cliff that these social media companies are jumping off to satisfy CNN and other liberal outlets.

"This is part of a disturbing trend. In recent months top conservative congressmen have been shadowbanned on Twitter. Pro-life and pro-gun posts and videos are often removed on several platforms. Liberal journalists even objected to one conservative outlet attending a meeting with Facebook. Several conservative organizations like Live Action, the NRA and even the Christian satire site Babylon Bee have complained they had posts removed or censored.

"Social media sites are supposedly neutral platforms, but they are increasingly becoming opportunities for the left and major media to censor any content that they don't like. The lack of transparency is also problematic and, as of this release, Facebook, Apple and Spotify have provided no detailed explanation for the ban. "Conservatives are increasingly concerned that InfoWars is not the end point for those who want to ban speech. It's just the beginning. We are rapidly approaching a point where censorship of opposing voices is the norm. That's dangerous." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the American people will be fully awake and alarmed at this modern-day version of book burning. Give our elected officials the tenacity to hold these companies accountable.

- You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10:36)

7. Emails Reveal High School Teachers Plotting To Hide Their Political Bias From Parents - The Federalist

Shortly after President Trump's inauguration, a group of public school history teachers pledged to reject the "call for objectivity" in the classroom, bully conservative students for their beliefs, and serve as "liberal propagandist[s]" for the cause of social justice.

Even science education is facing a hostile takeover by progressive luddites with scientific degrees who insist, as one biology PhD student did recently, that "to think there are universal truths perpetuates a particular kind of able bodied white cisgender male logic." The result of all this left-wing obscurantism is a brainwashed Generation Z that inhabits a false reality colored in stylized black and white by leftist dogma-the same false reality that Soviet school and preschool battered into me as a child.

The Left is abusing American high school education in its struggle-not to do good, but to gain and retain political power. The ongoing trend of growing political intolerance and ideological bigotry among the newest American adults will continue, and nothing good will come of it. In the Soviet Union, I've seen what young people could be turned into, what I myself could be turned into. Trust me, America hasn't seen anything yet.

-Father, we lift up our educators to You and pray for their hearts and minds to be touched by Your love, bringing them into repentance. We ask You to lead them in ways of righteousness so that they may be teachers that truly please You.

- Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. (James 3:1-2)

8. U.S. judge rules against Trump policy restricting transgender troops - Reuters

A U.S. court on Monday ruled the Trump administration could not enforce an updated policy barring certain transgender people from serving in the U.S. military, becoming the second court in the country to rule against the government since it unveiled the policy in March.

President Donald Trump announced on March 23 that he would endorse a plan by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to restrict the military service of transgender people who experience a condition called gender dysphoria. The policy replaced an outright ban on transgender service members that Trump announced last year on Twitter, citing concern over military focus and medical costs.

Monday's ruling came in a lawsuit filed last August by several aspiring service troops and current members of the U.S. Army, Air Force and Coast Guard. Last October, Kollar-Kotelly ruled that the original ban likely violated the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of equal protection under the law. Three more judges also blocked the ban, forcing the military to permit openly transgender individuals to join the ranks.

Trump's ban reversed Democratic former President Barack Obama's policy of allowing transgender troops to serve openly and receive medical care to transition genders. The new Trump policy exempts those diagnosed with gender dysphoria during the Obama policy, allowing them to remain in the military and serve according to their gender identity. (Read more)

- Father, we pray our military leaders will have the complete authority to develop policies regarding military readiness and federal judges will not be able to overrule their judgement.

- Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)

9. Pope Francis Rewrites Catholicism - and the Bible - American Greatness (Dennis Prager)
Last week, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had changed the Catholic catechism. After 2,000 years of teaching that a moral use of capital punishment for murder is consistent with Catholic teaching, the pope announced that the catechism, the church fathers, and St. Thomas Aquinas, among the other great Catholic theologians, were all wrong.

The biblical commandment to put premeditated murderers to death is unique. It is fundamental to biblical morality. The Bible makes it clear capital punishment for murder is applicable to all of humanity. It is the first law God gives Noah after the flood, after commanding him to be fruitful and multiply. Putting murderers to death is, therefore, the first moral law God gives the world.

Why this draconian penalty for murder? Because the penalty is a statement about the seriousness of a crime, and the God of the Bible deems the wrongful, deliberate taking of a human life the pinnacle of injustice. Allowing all murderers to keep their own lives diminishes the evil of murder and thereby cheapens the worth of the human being. It is precisely to preserve the unique worth of the human being that the Bible mandates putting murderers to death. (Read more)

- Father God, we lift up our brothers and sisters in the Catholic church and others who may be influenced by this pronouncement. We pray they will hold true to the Gospel and the integrity of Your Word.

- For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:18)

10. Seeking 'WORLD PEACE,' Trump says US won't trade with those who trade with Iran - Times of Israel

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned that any country doing business with Iran will not trade with the US as the first set of US sanctions against Iran that had been eased under the landmark nuclear accord went back into effect.

The sanctions, under an executive order signed by Trump, target financial transactions that involve US dollars, Iran's automotive sector, the purchase of commercial planes and metals including gold.

More US sanctions targeting Iran's oil sector and central bank are to be reimposed in early November.

In an early-morning tweet, Trump said the reimposition of sanctions means, "Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States."

"I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less!" (Read more)

- Father, we pray the government in Iran will be forced to withdraw its soldiers and assets that have been dispersed to cause trouble all around the world. We also pray these sanctions will ultimately lead to stability and peace for Israel.

- I will set My throne in Elam, And will destroy from there the king and the princes,' says the Lord. (Jeremiah 49:38)

The case for actively preserving religious freedom

Many Christians believe that socialism/communism is no problem to the Christian faith. Many support the current atmosphere of democratic socialism, progressivism, and liberal thought, believing it is in alignment with the principles of Christ. They cite Christ's nonviolence, the Apostle Paul's take on submitting to government, and Acts 2:44, "And all that believed were together and had (shared) all things in common," as Biblical justification. This is foolishness. Communism and its derivatives are anything but nonviolent. Submitting to evil is not what Paul meant. Early Christians lovingly had all things in common-they were not forced to do so by a government. The very nature of communism is against God.

A story by AP's Yanan Wang in China underscores the communist/socialist threat to Christianity. Wang writes: "Under President Xi Jinping, China's most powerful leader since Mao Zedong, believers are seeing their freedoms shrink dramatically even as the country undergoes a religious revival. Experts and activists say that as he consolidates his power, Xi is waging the most severe systematic suppression of Christianity in the country since religious freedom was written into the Chinese constitution in 1982. The crackdown on Christianity is part of a broader push by Xi to "Sinicize" all the nation's religions by infusing them with "Chinese characteristics" such as loyalty to the Communist Party."

Wang reports, "This spring, a five-year plan to "Sinicize" Christianity in particular was introduced, along with new rules on religious affairs. Over the last several months, local governments across the country have shut down hundreds of private Christian "house churches." A statement last week from 47 in Beijing alone said they had faced "unprecedented" harassment since February." Now, let's look at what is happening in America under the influence of socialist politicians and communistic advocacy groups. While it is not nearly as severe as in China, Christianity in the United States is under fire. Christians adhering to scriptural principles and faith values are considered extremists, bigots, homophobes and more.

Christians are ridiculed by the left. Moreover, Christians are hated and demonized by leftists. You see, the Communist Manifesto states: "...Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience." What can be more clear? When we look at what is occurring here in America, the visceral by the socialist left against anything suggesting a moral code, is there any doubt that electing more leftist will result in a continuation toward soft tyranny, and outright persecution of Christians? We have a say in this because we have a vote. Those in China do not because communism disenfranchises them. We need to pray for the persecuted church AND take action that our country preserves and defends religious freedom.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Just for Fun!

Amish man starts "Uber" ride service with his horse and buggy - WWMT

Anyone who has ever taken an Uber ride knows it's convenient and very popular so one man in St. Joseph County has found a way to make ride sharing more scenic. Timothy Hochstedler calls it Amish Uber.

He is adding some horsepower to ride sharing. The newest taxi service in Colon has four wheels, four legs and good gas mileage. Inside his horse and buggy, people share a ride and Hochstedler gets to share some stories. Everyone's happy.

For $5, you're getting more than just a ride. "I don't think there's Uber down here, so it's pretty cool. It gives people that option that can't drive or don't want to drive or shouldn't drive," said Becky Phelps, an Amish Uber rider. Hochstedler is a friend to everyone who has found a way to share through a ride.

He is just calling himself an Uber, he doesn't actually work for the company. The Amish Uber can be found in Colon over the weekend giving rides during the 81st annual Abbott's Magic Get Together. (Read more)

THE CHURCH'S ONE FOUNDATION

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 3:11)

Lyrics

The church's one Foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is His new creation, by water and the Word; from heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride; with His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.

Elect from ev'ry nation, yet one o'er all the earth, her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy Name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with ev'ry grace endued.

Tho' with a scornful wonder, men see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, "How long?" And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

The church shall never perish! Her dear Lord, to defend, to guide, sustain, and cherish, is with her to the end; tho' there be those that hate her and false sons in her pale, against the foe or traitor she ever shall prevail.

'Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace for evermore; till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.
Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee.

Weird Volcanoes Are Erupting Across the Solar System

NASA's Juno spacecraft recently spotted a possible new volcano at the south pole of Jupiter's most lava-licious moon, Io. But this volcanically active moon is not alone in the solar system, where sizzling-hot rocks explode and ooze onto the surface of several worlds. So how do Earthly volcanoes differ from those erupting across the rest of the solar system?

Let's start with Io. The moon is famous for its hundreds of volcanoes, including fountains that sometimes spurt lava dozens of miles above the surface, according to NASA. This Jupiter moon is constantly re-forming its surface through volcanic eruptions, even to this day. Io's volcanism results from strong gravitational encounters between Jupiter and two of its large moons, Europa and Ganymede, which shake up Io's insides.

Rosaly Lopes, a senior research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, managed observations of Io between 1996 and 2001, during the Galileo spacecraft mission to Jupiter.
"Io has lots of caldera-like features, but they are on the surface," Lopes told Live Science. "There are lots of lava flows and lots of lakes. Lava lakes are pretty rare on Earth. We have half a dozen of them. We think they have occurred in the past on Venus and Mars. But on Io, we actually see lava lakes at the present time." Hawaii's Kilauea volcano is one such spot on Earth dotted with lava lakes.
. . . Venus and Mars also have shield volcanoes, a type of volcano made up almost entirely of fluid lava flows. (Shield volcanoes are common on Earth, in Hawaii in particular, Lopes said.) Mars possesses the highest volcano in the solar system - Olympus Mons - and several other monster volcanoes, perhaps because its gravity is lighter than Earth's and the volcanoes can grow taller. 'Don't Worry, Nobody's Gonna Get You':

Postman Rescues Weeping Girl from Sex Traffickers

The US Postal Service prides itself on delivering the mail no matter what, but one postman delayed his mail route one day for the sake of a terrified, young girl in desperate need of help.

Letter carrier Ivan Crisostomo says he heard 16-year-old Crystal Allen crying, hiding behind a large bush. Crystal told her story of being lured by a "friend" into the hands of sex-traffickers.

"I was kidnapped and held captive and abused and stuff," she said.

She went on to tell reporters that she was drugged and abused by her captors and it was almost impossible to escape.

"They had guard dogs and people that would watch us all the time and not let us leave. I was tied to chairs," she went on to say.

When Crisostomo found her, he says she was in a panic.

"The girl kept saying, 'They are coming to get me. They are coming to get me.' I said, 'Don't worry, nobody is going to get you. I'm here for you,'" he said in the interview.

He told ABC affiliate KCRA that he convinced her to call her mother, Stacy Ohman, who thought she had run away.

"She was frantic. I didn't know what was going on," Ohman said. "I couldn't even understand her she was so upset and that's when I told her she had to reach out to someone for safety and she gave the phone to Ivan and he instantly kicked into gear and told me that he would save my daughter," she said in the interview with KCRA.

"My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word." (Psalm 119:148)

From now through Sunday morning, August 25th, CHPP is sponsoring 21 NIGHTS OF PRAYER for our nation and for Israel.

Using the Daily Briefs as our prayer guides, we are crying out in the night, in repentance, asking God to pour out His mercy upon our land. We then pray, too, for the peace of Jerusalem.
You can reach us anytime from midnight tonight to 5:00 a.m. by calling 641-715-0862; Access Code 418253#. For more details, please go here. WELCOME!
