1. IAF pounds Gaza after mortar salvo hits border communities - Israel Hayom

Israeli fighter jets struck 25 Hamas positions in
the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Wednesday morning in response to a heavy barrage of mortar shells and rockets fired from the coastal enclave at border-adjacent communities. Three Hamas operatives were wounded in one airstrike in southern Gaza, the Palestinians said.

Dozens of Color Red alerts blasted through the
Eshkol, Hof Ashkelon, Sdot Negev and Shaar Hanegev regional councils between 2:30 a.m. and 5:50 a.m., as some 45 projectiles were fired at the area, in one of the worst flare-ups on the border in weeks.

2. Gaza terror organizations: We will respond by force - Israel National News

Following the IDF's air strikes in Gaza which came in retaliation for Tuesday night's rocket barrage on southern Israel, the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip threatened on Wednesday that the policy of fire in response to fire would continue in order to "prevent Israel from imposing its aggressive rules of the game on the Palestinian people."

In a joint statement, the terrorist organizations operating in Gaza imposed full responsibility on Israel for "any act of aggression against Gaza." They warned that all attempts by Israel to stop Palestinian popular activity would only cause further use of force.

The statement added that "the resistance and the weapons will continue to be the shield that protects the Palestinian people from aggression, and the readiness and swift and coordinated response of the resistance organizations are proof of the seriousness of their intentions."

3.IDF deploys additional Iron Dome batteries near Gaza amid heightened tensions - Times of Israel

The army deployed additional Iron Dome missile defense systems in southern Israel on Wednesday, after terror groups in the Gaza Strip launched dozens of rockets and mortar shells earlier in the day.

Residents of the area were encouraged to go about their daily lives as usual, but to also prepare themselves for the possibility of another round of violence.

4. Iranians take to Twitter to send messages of hope and support to Israel
- Jerusalem Online

Iranians have turned to social media to declare their support of Israel in response to the worldwide al-Quds Day demonstrations. The surprising wave of support also follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's video announcement in which he presented Israel's plans to "help save countless Iranian lives" by sharing its cutting-edge water technology with Iranian farmers.

Using the hashtag #WeStandWithIsrael, Iranians launched a social media campaign to express their desire for peace and denounce the Iranian regime's threats against the Jewish State. The campaign, which began at 9 pm on Friday, coincided with International al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day, a day marked by Muslim communities around the world to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

5. Israelis in the South Scramble to Shelter Under Barrage of Rockets Fired From Gaza - JNS

The residents of southern Israel faced a barrage of rockets from Gaza early Wednesday morning, with 45 rockets and mortars fired at Israeli communities. As warning sirens wailed around 5:30 a.m., at least five rockets fired from the Hamas-controlled region touched down inside Israeli towns near the Gaza border, with one rocket hitting outside a kindergarten. Seven rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile-defense system, and three failed to make it out of Gaza. The majority of rockets landed in unpopulated open areas.

The Eshkol Council reported damage to a number of buildings and cars.

The Daily Brief

1. Trump executive order ends family separations, locks in zero-tolerance policy - Washington Times

President Trump signed an order Wednesday ending the separation of families at the border, moving to end a crisis that engulfed his administration and threatened to derail his hopes of progress on broader immigration reforms. The changes don't end the new zero-tolerance policy that pushes for criminal prosecutions of illegal immigrants who jump the border - indeed, it enshrines the policy in the executive order. But it does mean those families arrested for sneaking in will be held in immigration detention facilities, rather than separated, with parents sent to criminal justice system jails and kids handed off to Health Department-run dorms.

"This is a stopgap measure. The president's doing everything he can here within the bounds of existing authority," said Gene Hamilton, a senior aide to Mr. Sessions. But immigrant-rights groups were furious, saying that while they didn't want children separated from families, neither did they want families to be detained. "Family incarceration is not the answer to ending family separation, and moving children from one cage to another is an outrage," said Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, a leading liberal think tank. Indeed, Mr. Trump's decision Wednesday seemed to rip the bandaid off the immigration fight, exposing the scabs of years of stalemate. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for the Executive Order signed by President Trump. We pray Congress will do the right thing and pass a comprehensive immigration bill to solve the long-term problems with immigration to our nation, especially on our southern border.

- You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10:36)

2. Gowdy Scorches Comey In Blistering Opening Statement At IG Hearing - WeaselZippers/FoxNews

Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy scorched James Comey in a blistering opening statement at a high-profile congressional hearing on Tuesday, declaring "we can't survive with a justice system we don't trust."

Gowdy kicked off the hearing featuring testimony from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz on his review of the Hillary Clinton email case. The top DOJ watchdog is on Capitol Hill for the second day in a row to discuss the explosive report. But Gowdy launched into Tuesday's session - a joint hearing held by the House oversight and judiciary panels - with a fiery condemnation of the former FBI director and certain agents in the bureau he led.

Referring to IG findings that Comey defied his superiors in his handling of the Clinton email case, Gowdy accused the ex-director of essentially operating by his own rules. "We see Jim Comey and Jim Comey alone deciding which DOJ policies to follow and which to ignore," he said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Oversight Committee Chairman Gowdy will successfully uncover all major unethical and criminal acts within our government agencies before he leaves office in January.

- Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means (2 Corinthians 8:11)

3. Bob Goodlatte warns Peter Strzok to agree to testify next week because 'the subpoena is coming' - Washington Examiner

Peter Strzok, a top FBI agent who demonstrated anti-Trump bias, may yet get subpoenaed to appear before Congress, even though over the weekend he volunteered to go before Congress. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., emphasized Tuesday evening that he is willing to work things out with Strzok, but warned that testimony needs to happen by next week.

Noting that Strzok "has to understand he has to do it on our timetable, not his," Goodlatte concluded that the FBI agent's lawyer should reach out because "the subpoena is coming." The interview followed news that Strzok was escorted from the FBI's Washington headquarters amid an ongoing disciplinary process.

Strzok worked in a senior capacity on both the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server and special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. Strzok was removed from the Mueller probe after it was discovered he and Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer with whom he was romantically involved, exchanged anti-Trump, pro-Clinton messages. (Read more)

- Father, we believe You have done a work in Peter Strzok's heart - a work that only humiliation could accomplish. We pray he will apologize to the American people and come clean before the committee, telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

- When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
(Proverbs 11:2)

4. Mark Meadows Drops Multiple BOMBSHELLS In Hearing About Clinton, Russia Probes - Daily Caller

North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows made two startling claims in a House hearing on Tuesday, asserting that there is "growing evidence" that FBI officials altered documentation of witness interviews in the Hillary Clinton and Russia probes. The Republican also revealed the name of an FBI attorney he believes is the bureau employee who was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation in February after he was found to have sent anti-Trump text messages.

"I think the other thing that I would ask you to look into, there is growing evidence that 302s were edited and changed," Meadows said. "Those 302s, it is suggested that they were changed to either prosecute or not prosecute individuals. And that is very troubling." Meadows was referring to forms that FBI agents use to summarize witness interviews. He told reporters after Tuesday's hearing that he has seen evidence that 302s filled out during the Clinton and Russia investigations have been changed. He also said he has "more information" about the alleged alterations.

Meadows was not finished dropping bombshells. He also threw out the name of the person he believes is identified as "FBI Attorney 2" in the IG report released on Thursday. The report cited text messages that the lawyer sent shortly before and after the 2016 election criticizing Trump. The lawyer worked on both the Clinton and Russia investigations. On the latter, he served as the FBI's top attorney on the Russia probe as of 2017 and worked on Mueller's team until February. He was removed from that investigation after the discovery of his anti-Trump texts.

Horowitz said early on in Tuesday's hearing that the lawyer was not identified in the IG report at the request of the FBI. The bureau claimed that the individual's identity was sensitive because he worked on counterintelligence matters. "They don't work in counterintelligence. If that's the reason the FBI is giving, they're giving you false information because they work for the general counsel," Meadows said. (Read more)

- Father, it is clear Republican leadership has been given key information that the FBI and DOJ have been withholding. We pray for Your protection over faithful FBI and DOJ employees.

- When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. (Proverbs 10:25)

5. Antifa Spreads List Of ICE Agents Compiled Using LinkedIn And Blasts It Over Twitter - Daily Caller

Antifa, a violent, so-called anti-fascist group, tweeted out a list of over 1,500 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents' identities. A Twitter user who goes by Sam Lavigne compiled the list of ICE agents' identities, titles and locations. Lavigne created the database in response to ICE's "inhumane" efforts in on the border, according to his archived Medium post.

"I've downloaded and made available the profiles of (almost) everyone on LinkedIn who works for ICE, 1,595 people in total. While I don't have a precise idea of what should be done with this data set, I leave it here with the hope that researchers, journalists, and activists will find it useful," Lavigne wrote on Medium. Lavigne also tweeted a screenshot of the personal Twitter account of ICE's chief technology officer the day after Father's Day, which included a picture of the official with his son.

There have been a number of reports of Antifa's violence and the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI classifies the group as a terrorist organization. One example illustrates the group's attack on individuals at a University of California, Berkeley campus protest in August 2017. In several video clips, Antifa members are recorded assaulting individuals they described as being right-wing nationalists and alt-right. Department of Homeland Security documents have shown that Antifa has at times posed a greater threat than the so-called white supremacists they combat. (Read more)

- Father God, we lift up our ICE agents and their families. We pray Your Holy angels will surround and protect them. We pray each agent will be given wisdom and skill to do their very difficult jobs each day.

- For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you. He makes peace in your borders, and fills you with the finest wheat.
(Psalm 147:13-14)

6.GOP Lawmakers Seek Border Policy Fix as Trump Holds Firm - RealClearPolitics

Amid mounting pressure from constituents and activists, and against the backdrop of distressing footage of migrant children separated from their parents, lawmakers are anxious for some type of speedy solution. But consensus on strategy and policy prescriptions has been hard to come by, with some members concerned about Trump's propensity to throw a wrench into the works and others arguing that he should amend the policy unilaterally.

And despite White House demands for significant legislative changes to broader immigration policy, GOP leaders have advocated for much narrower provisions. "In order to fix this problem, you can't fix all the problems," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said. While Trump's "zero tolerance" approach to illegal immigration is a manifestation of the campaign rhetoric that mobilized his supporters in 2016, the humanitarian impact of its implementation could jeopardize Republicans' majorities in Congress.

Others did not see the need for a binary choice in addressing the crisis. "I don't think we should have to choose between enforcing the law and keeping families together. I think we can do both," said GOP Senate Whip John Cornyn. The Texas lawmaker has been working with colleagues on a legislative solution aimed at keeping families together pending their immigration hearings, and moving them ahead in the line to expedite the process. (Read more)

- Father, we ask for the best, strongest immigration bill that can actually pass through Congress. We pray the Senate Democrats will do the right thing for our nation by voting for the bill.

- Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. (1 Chronicles 13:4)

7. Tony Perkins: Sessions Talking To Lawmakers About Using DNA Tests To Verify Parents Of Immigrant Children - Daily Caller

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is exploring the possibility of using DNA tests to verify the parentage of illegal alien adults who attempt to cross the southern border with children, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said in a statement Tuesday after interviewing Sessions on his radio show Washington Watch. He continued, "They are looking at how to use DNA tests in the field to verify they are parents and not traffickers. The reality is if American parents put their kids through what these immigrant parents have done to their kids - they would be charged with child abuse."

Around 12,000 children are currently in the custody of Health and Human Services after entering the United States. According to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirsten Nielsen, 10,000 of the 12,000 children in the care of HHS arrived in the U.S. as unaccompanied minors. "We know for a fact that a lot of adults taking children along are not related to them. [They] could be muggers. They could be human traffickers. It's a very unhealthy dangerous thing and it needs to end. We need to return to a good lawful system," Sessions told Perkins on his broadcast. (Read more)

- Father, lost in all the emotions is the fact that many of these children are being trafficked for adults to gain entry to the United States. We pray this policy to positively identify parents will be adopted to prevent the exploitation of children.

- So the king answered and said, "Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him; she is his mother." (1 Kings 3:27)

8. China Industrial Policy Seeks to Steal 'Crown Jewels' of U.S. Tech - FreeBeacon

China's government is using a multi-pronged strategy to systematically steal advanced American technology as part of economic aggression against the United States, according to a White House report. The report, based in part on declassified intelligence from the Pentagon and intelligence agencies, provides some of the first public details on China's industrial policies that have produced the world's second largest economy, often at the expense of American companies. "The Chinese state seeks to access the crown jewels of American technology and intellectual property," says the report, made public Tuesday night.

China's economic strategy involves obtaining and utilizing technologies and know-how gathered from around the globe through a combination of state-sponsored theft, cyber attacks, violations of U.S. export controls, and counterfeiting and piracy. However, most of the Chinese economic aggression has taken place in the United States or against American companies doing business in China.

China's economic aggression was defined by the White House as six behaviors: Theft, forced tech transfer, evasion of export controls, export restraints on raw materials, information-harvesting, and acquisitions. Key American technologies targeted by the Chinese include artificial intelligence, blockchain know how, robotics, high-tech manufacturing, and high-tech shipping.

In dealing with American companies in China, Beijing has resorted to coercive and intrusive regulatory controls designed to force tech transfers from companies-based on promises of access to the Chinese market. In the United States, China employs some of the hundreds of thousands of Chinese nationals studying and working at universities and research institutes to gain access to cutting edge technology and send it back to Chinese firms. State-backed Chinese companies also are buying up American companies and hiring scientists and experts as part of the systematic program of economic aggression, the report said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray President Trump will be successful in cutting off China's ability to plunder our nation.

- The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

9. Laser Attacks Against U.S. Forces Spread to the Pacific - Popular Mechanics

Laser attacks against U.S. forces have spread out of Africa into the Pacific. U.S. personnel operating in the East China Sea area have been the victim of blinding laser attacks similar to those that took place earlier this year in Djibouti. The attacks, conducted with nonlethal lasers were reportedly carried out by Chinese nationals. Now the U.S. is reporting similar attacks in the East China Sea, where more than 20 incidents have reportedly taken place. According to Aviation Week & Space Technology, as the attacks are increasing they are also involving more laser frequency bands.

The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command confirmed to AvWeek that the laser strikes are taking place both from shore and fishing vessels. It's not clear where the shore attacks are taking place, but China trains and offers subsidies to fishing boat crews to act as what observers call China's "maritime militia." The increasing sophistication of these lasers implies Chinese state support for the laser attacks. There's also the question as to how simple fishing boat crews can tell U.S. military planes from civilian planes without direction from someone with access to radar. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your protection over our civilian and military planes. Protect our pilots and help them avoid these dangerous attacks.

- See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, Lord. I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight! (Psalm 59:3-4)

10. Gallup: Everyone except Democrats are feeling unusually optimistic about the country's direction right now - Washington Examiner

According to Gallup, Americans' satisfaction with their country's direction is at a 12-year high at 38 percent. That's the highest level since September 2005, right around the time Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and sent this measure of national sentiment plummeting. What's more, nearly every group that Gallup breaks out in its analysis - men and women, all age groups and all education levels - was significantly more positive on the country's direction when polled in May and June than they were in surveys from March and April. Republicans jumped 14 points to 68 percent satisfied with the nation's direction, and independents jumped 11 points to 36 percent satisfied.

The one group that remains as sour on America's direction as before is self-identified Democrats, unchanged from their meager 13 percent level of optimism. So what happened in the last month or two? It's a tough question, and I think it's especially hard to grasp for Twitter-addicted political journalists to grasp, given that they tend to be left-leaning anyway.

Ordinary people don't care about Russia, or Stormy Daniels, or emoluments, or any of the other things that keep the #Resistance up at night. I think a lot more Americans will care about the Kim Jong Un meeting (which a large majority of people believes went well), the DHS issue of separating illegal immigrant minors from parents, trouble with Obamacare, and tax cuts that are showing up in their paycheck. (Read more)

- Father, we are truly grateful for this good news and for Your blessing upon our land. We pray the media stronghold of bad news will be broken and those who have been deceived will see the truth.

- Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one's labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. (Ecclesiastes 5:18)

Bizarre deep-sea creature washes up on Texas beach, puzzles park rangers

An odd-looking fish that lives on the ocean floor shocked Texas park rangers when it washed up on Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi last week.

Photographer Edie Bresler was scanning the beach for hidden treasures when he spotted the big-eyed fish. With its bumpy skin and wide mouth, Bresler wasn't exactly sure what he was looking at. So, he quickly took out his camera and started snapping.

"I have been beach combing all my life so to come across something strange like this was totally exciting," Bresler explained in a Facebook post on Thursday. "It got even better when I took the photographs to the park rangers and they were equally baffled."

Bresler sent his photos to officials at Padre Island National Seashore. After carefully studying the creature and comparing images of the fish to various science books, they determined it was a thick-tailed batfish.

"These fish come from 600-1200 feet (180-365 meters) deep, where ocean life gets WEIRD," the park posted on Facebook, including two photographs taken by Bresler. "Batfish use their pectoral, or side-fins, as 'legs' to 'crawl' on the seafloor to feed on worms, and small crustaceans and fish. They live their lives in complete darkness, where large eyes probably come in handy to avoid lanternfish or other possible predators." (Fox News)

Nour al-Din Shinawi, a Palestinian in his 20s from Jenin had entered Israel without a permit. On June 21, he attacked Malka in the city of Afula in central Israel, stabbing her multiple times in the upper body. Malka was severely wounded.

Shinawi fled the scene but police found him in the city about an hour later, shooting him in the leg before arresting him. A knife was found in his possession. He was taken to hospital and after being released into police custody Thursday, he confessed to the attack.

"Thank you to the Master of the world who really did give us a huge miracle," Malka, an Orthodox Jew, said at a press conference she gave from her hospital bed.
