The Daily Brief - Friday, July 1, 2011

"When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness." (Isaiah 29:9b)

The Daily Brief

1. Fed's Massive Stimulus Had Little Impact: Greenspan - CNBC

The Federal Reserve's massive stimulus program had little impact on the U.S. economy besides weakening the dollar and helping U.S. exports, Federal Reserve Governor Alan Greenspan told CNBC Thursday.

- Father, we ask for wisdom for those in the Federal Reserve, and our leaders in government, who make these decisions regarding our economy. May they seek your face, and your word. May they recognize their own human frailty and look to you for wisdom and to deal with integrity, as they handle another man's riches.

- "Whoever can be trusted with very little can be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So, if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And, if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?" (Luke 16:10-12)

2. US risks "severe shock" over debt talks - UK Telegraph

America will cause a "severe shock" to world financial markets should Congress fail to agree an increase in the country's debt ceiling in a month's time, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned.

Exclusive: S&P to deeply cut U.S. ratings if debt payment missed - Reuters

The United States would immediately have its top-notch credit rating slashed to "selective default" if it misses a debt payment on August 4, Standard & Poor's managing director John Chambers told Reuters.

- Lord, when we as individuals do not pay our debts, but continue to spend recklessly by accumulating more debt, the consequences are painful and significant. We ask that our leaders will be responsible, and not increase our debt ceiling, but rather cut wasteful spending now. May they seek your wisdom, and eliminate expenditures on frivolous "pork barrel" projects, and redirect those funds to meet the needs of our own people. We ask that our legislators and leaders will truly choose to do what is best for our country, and not for their own political aspirations. As they humble themselves before you, you will lift them up.

- "Those who trust in their riches shall fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. When a man's ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." (Proverbs 11:28;16:7)

3. U.S. shifts to closer contact with Egypt Islamists - Reuters

The United States will resume limited contacts with Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed on Thursday, saying it was in Washington's interests to deal with parties committed to non-violent politics.

- Our Jehovah Nissi, (our banner), we thank you that you love and protect your own people. We know that the Muslim Brotherhood has a track record of violence against both Christians and Jews, the very "apple of your eye". We ask, therefore, that you will expose their agenda and bring it to light and uncover their true goals; and give us leaders who truly love America and love you! Amen!

- "For whatever is hidden is meant to be exposed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open." (Mark 4:22)

4. Al-Qaida 'Decimated,' says US Counterterrorism Chief - VOA News

The Obama administration has laid out a new national counterterrorism strategy. In a speech Wednesday, the administration's top counterterrorism advisor outlined a plan of beefing up cooperation with other countries to keep pressure on what he says is a seriously weakened al-Qaida terror organization.

- Father, we thank you for the success of our Navy Seal Team that found and "took out" Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaida. We pray that this event will bring al-Qaida to their knees, and, as a result they will question their god, and realize that You alone are truly God! May they humbly bow before You, and receive you as their Messiah and Lord. O Lord, may you be exalted, and all your enemies scatter!

- "Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God; yes, let them rejoice exceedingly." (Psalm 68:1-3)

5. Pakistan Calls for US to Leave Base Used for Drones - VOA News

Pakistan's defense minister has called for the United States to leave a remote air base in southwestern Pakistan that he says is used to launch drone strikes against Taliban and al-Qaida militants.

- Lord, we ask that Pakistan stop harboring criminals in their land. We pray that they not be ruled by fear of the Taliban and al-Qaida terrorists. We pray, O Lord, for a "change of heart", and for their eyes being opened to the truth of who is their enemy, and who is not. May they turn to you, the only true God who loves them and desires them to be free. May they come to know you, whom to know is life eternal!

- "The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever He wishes." (Prov. 21:1)

Reminder: The deep Christian roots of America

Recently, there has been much debate within the patriotic Christian community about whether the Founding Fathers were Christian or if their legacy has been a carefully crafted lie. Some now say that America was not formed up by Christians and did not reflect the a nation founded in the name of Christ. Filmmaker Chris Pinto has appeared on radio and television shows lambasting David Barton of Wallbuilders for misleading Christian Americans about the foundation of Christ as the cornerstone of this nation. While I am not a historian, it is of interest to me. It is a fact that this United States of America, had predominantly Christian roots at its founding and its laws are based on the laws of the Bible.

The land was claimed in covenant with God to advance the Christian faith over 150 years BEFORE the Declaration of Independence. The 1606 Jamestown Charter from King James stated "...in propagating of Christian Religion to such People, as yet live in Darkness and miserable Ignorance of the true Knowledge and Worship of God, and may in time bring the Infidels and Savages, living in those Parts, to human Civility, and to a settled and quiet Government..." The Mayflower Compact 16 years later proclaimed: "Having undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia..."

The Founding Fathers of the United States of America may not all have been Christians. They knew, however, that the Holy Scriptures contained in the Bible were the basis for all law. They unabashedly based the formation of the nation upon the laws of the God of the Bible. One can find Biblical principles throughout the Declaration and the Constitution. On January 10, 1963, Florida Congressman A.S. Herlong, Jr. read into the Congressional Record the 45 stated goals of communism from "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. Numbers 27-30 stated: "27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state." 29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis. 30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."" Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Those trying to say that because the Founders were not necessarily Christian our nation is inherently evil are liars and deceivers. Rest assured that God was in control of forming this nation for His good purpose. And take delight in it that our Christian heritage is true and vital.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

The Good News Corner:

"In Their Own Words"

The Good News for today is that . . . America IS a Christian nation . . . built solidly upon the foundation of our Judeo-Christian faith.

This is a dramatic look at quotes from our Founding Fathers which concludes with a quote from Jesus about freedom.

To those who constantly spout the lies concerning separation of church and state, George Washington said, "What students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ."

And one quote in particular speaks of our present concerns for this nation: "The God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed the conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? --Thomas Jefferson

Please enjoy this good news report today, as our founders talk about our freedom as a nation . . .
