The Daily Brief - Wednesday, August 4, 2010

"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done." (Rev. 22:12)

The Daily Brief

1. Spill Uncorked 4.9 Million Barrels - Wall Street Journal

Teams of scientists working with the U.S. government estimate that 62,000 barrels of oil a day -- or a total of 4.9 million barrels -- leaked into the Gulf of Mexico from the shattered well operated by BP PLC government agencies said Monday.

- God, the enemy insidiously attacked this oil well to steal, kill and destroy the oil that could have supplied energy for many people. Uncover the culprit who deliberately caused this devastation. With the speed of light, expose all evil surrounding this occurrence and may the guilty be solidly held responsible and backed against the wall that they cannot escape retribution. In Jesus Name.

- "The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)

2. BP delays final 'static kill' test - USA Today

BP engineers delayed until today a test that could lead to permanently plugging the well that has leaked millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

- God, give the BP engineers divine wisdom to act according to Your eternal purpose. We lean upon Your righteous judgment to bring about the expected end in the manner in which agrees with God, and that Your intention was carried out. In the Name of Jesus.

- "And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies." (Psalm 69:17-18)

3. Home-ownership rate continues to slide - USA Today

Millions of houses on the verge of foreclosure threaten to send home-ownership to its lowest level in 50 years, according to new industry estimates.

- Father, we ask that the power of Almighty God strike at the root of the black cloud of socialism that is hovering over the secure foundation of home ownership in America. Secure our homes by sending myriads of angels who will stand guard and protect the father's income, the solidity of marriage, the security of children, the mortgages on homes, and elimination of excessive debt. Bring victory through this, by the blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "Ask ye now, and see whether a man does travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it." (Jeremiah 30:6-7)

4. New York Mosque Controversy Fires Up National Campaign - Fox News

It's a case of right vs. right, says the Anti-Defamation League on the construction of a 15-story, $100 million mosque and community center scheduled near New York City's Ground Zero.

- Almighty God, we see Your judgment fire welling up in heaven that will soon be released against all the plans of the wicked who are pressing for this mosque to be built on the very ground where they took the lives of thousands of innocent workers at their jobs on September 11, 2001. This is putrid in the eyes of God, who sits on the throne of heaven beholding this great evil. Father, we ask that Your righteous mercy prevails upon the families of the victims. May the heavenly host of angels wage war against the hardened hearts and seared conscience of the ungodly. God, command by Your Word that this 15-story tombstone not be built on the ground where the blood of the fallen innocent American victims of 9-11 died. In Jesus Name.

- "And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand. And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake." (Revelation 8:4-5)

5. Iraq withdrawal: 27 bases in 29 days - Ynet News

By month's end, US president to complete withdrawal of almost 100,000 US troops from Iraq. Some soldiers to stay behind to train local troops, but Obama's main focus will now be on war in Afghanistan.

- Father, we call forth sufficient power from heaven to prevail against all rhetoric that is pretentious in nature that would use this stance to benefit politically. Bind under the blood of Jesus all deception, lies, perversion of truth, imaginations, schemes and undertows that would be a fatal move, if implemented, for the United States of America. In Jesus Name.

- "Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger." (Zephaniah 2:3)

The Daily Jot

The Proverb that haunts Americans in these prophetic times

The man who occupies the Oval Office has nominated to the Supreme Court a political hack with no experience, and there are five Republicans in the Senate who are going to allow your citizenship to be devalued by voting for Elena Kagan. Maine Republicans Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, New Hampshire's Judd Gregg, Indiana's Richard Lugar, and South Carolina's Lindsey Graham have said they will vote for Kagan. If these Senators of questionable judgment were to stick with the Party line, Kagan would be rejected. But rather, the Republicans have done little or nothing to prevent this travesty of immense proportions. In fact, Graham could have stopped Kagan in committee if he had voted against her.

From illegal immigration to abortion to so-called marriage between homosexuals to gun control to socialism to support for the military, Kagan has proven to be against the Constitution. Kagan has unethically influenced decisions when she was a political hack in the Clinton Administration. Columnist Robert Knight says, "She falsified a physicians' group's document on partial-birth abortion to reflect her own view instead of theirs - and submitted it to the Supreme Court as evidence. This is fraud, plain and simple." How can someone of such questionable ethical and moral character become a member of the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court?

Because people who have been elected to office--including the Presidency and the Senate--share the same character. The Founding Fathers were clear about the need for virtuous and moral leaders. John Adams said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." These wise men knew that the only way to secure a prosperous nation was to have virtuous leaders, a principle found in Exodus 18:21, "Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens."

When America has leaders who are willing to compromise sound and proven ethics and morals, then the nation falls into despair. Proverbs 29:2 says, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." And Proverbs 14:34 says, "Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." Much of America's leadership is sinful, unethical and lacks virtue. This is the reason why an Elena Kagan can be approved by the Senate to the highest court of the land. This is the reason why homosexuality is rampant, socialism is entrenching, and Biblical values are considered hateful and judgmental. But then again, who elected these leaders?

Commission OKs Ground Zero Mosque

The New York City Landmarks Commission voted 11-to-0 to deny a historic landmark designation to a former Burlington Coat Factory building located near Ground Zero. A year ago, the building was purchased by the Cordoba Initiative for $4.85 million, reportedly paid for in cash. Now that the Landmark Commission has determined that the 153 year-old building does not qualify as a historic landmark, the Cordoba Initiative is free to demolish it and begin construction on a planned 13-story mega-mosque.

This vote comes as even more disturbing information comes to light about the Cordoba Initiative and its leader, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. Following 9/11, Rauf authored a book called, What's Right with Islam Is What's Right with America. But as former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy notes, Rauf's book has had other titles in other countries. When published in Malaysia it was titled, A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa in the Heart of America Post-9/11.
McCarthy's article should be required reading for New York politicians. He rightly concludes that the Ground Zero mega-mosque is not a test of America's "commitment to religious liberty. . . [it] is a test of America's resolve to face down a civilizational jihad that aims, in the words of its leaders, to destroy us from within." If you are not familiar with the concept of dawa or Rauf's dubious connections..

Last week, the Anti-Defamation League announced its opposition to the Ground Zero mosque. Here is an excerpt of the ADL statement:

". . . we are mindful that some legitimate questions have been raised about who is providing the funding to build it, and what connections, if any, its leaders might have with groups whose ideologies stand in contradiction to our shared values. These questions deserve a response, and we hope those backing the project will be transparent and forthcoming. But regardless of how they respond, the issue at stake is a broader one.

". . . ultimately this is not a question of rights, but a question of what is right. In our judgment, building an Islamic Center in the shadow of the World Trade Center will cause some victims more pain - unnecessarily - and that is not right." (Gary Bauer)

Obama Stimulus Waste

According to the Obama Administration, the $862 billion stimulus program has saved or created millions of jobs. Yet the unemployment rate today is higher (9.5%) than when Obama took office last year (7.7%). I wonder how unemployed construction workers would feel if they knew that Obama's stimulus program used $1 million of taxpayer money to take pictures of exotic ants in East Africa.

That is just one of many instances - 100 to be exact - of stimulus waste identified by Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and John McCain (R-AZ) in a report released this week.

Here's another one: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) spent more than $360,000 of stimulus money to produce an interactive, online report on how the NIH spent more than $12 million in stimulus money. Yes, you read that right - a government agency spent your hard-earned tax dollars to produce propaganda about how it is spending even more of your hard-earned tax dollars. (Gary Bauer)

U.S.: PLO claim of threat to cut PA ties borders on 'absurdity'

The U.S. States Department said Saturday that reports that the administration of Obama threatened to cut off ties with the Palestinians unless they entered direct talks with Israel bordered on "absurdity." The United States encourages the talks, it does not threaten, an official said. The White House source told Haaretz that the claim made by Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, was "not true."

According Ashrawi, the United States threatened to break off ties with the Palestinian Authority unless its leader, Mahmoud Abbas agreed to return to face-to-face peace negotiations with Israel. He said the administration of Obama had ramped up pressure on Abbas' Palestinian Authority to move from American-mediated talks to direct negotiations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Arrest of Va. man spotlights al-Qaeda's new American recruiters

The arrest of a young Fairfax County man on charges of supporting Somali terrorists spotlights an operational shift by al-Qaeda and its affiliates, which increasingly are relying on a new generation of American recruiters to radicalize other Americans, counterterrorism officials said. Zachary Adam Chesser, 20, of Oakton sought to follow the path of at least four other U.S. citizens with extensive knowledge of American culture who have risen to prominent roles in al-Qaeda's network overseas, according to court documents. Chesser's most direct role models appear to be Anwar al-Aulaqi, 39, a New Mexico-born Muslim cleric based in Yemen, with whom Chesser was in e-mail contact, and Omar Hammami, 26, an Alabama native who has become a senior commander in Somalia and who starred in a rap recruiting video that created an Internet stir as he led an armed group of fighters to a musical beat.

Reading Terrorists Minds About Imminent Attack

Imagine technology that allows you to get inside the mind of a terrorist to know how, when and where the next attack will occur. That's not nearly as far-fetched as it seems, according to a new Northwestern University study. Say, for purposes of illustration, that the chatter about an imminent terrorist attack is mounting, and specifics about the plan emerge, about weapons that will be used, the date of such a dreaded event and its location. If the new test used by the Northwestern researchers had been used in such a real-world situation with the same type of outcome that occurred in the lab, the study suggests, culpability extracted from the chatter could be confirmed. In other words, if the test conducted in the Northwestern lab ultimately is employed for such real-world scenarios, the research suggests, law enforcement officials ultimately may be able to confirm details about an attack - date, location, weapon -- that emerges from terrorist chatter.

The Good News Corner:

Charges Dismissed Against Illinois Grad Student for Praying Outside Abortion Clinic

Charges were dropped late this afternoon against Joseph Holland, a Northwestern University graduate student, who had been arrested last month for praying on a public sidewalk outside a Chicago Planned Parenthood clinic.

Holland had been the first person arrested under city's new "bubble zone" ordinance, which prohibits "approaching within eight feet of a person without consent "for the purpose of passing a leaflet or handbill to, displaying a sign to, or engaging in oral protest, education, or counseling."
"We are pleased that the City of Chicago has dismissed these false and baseless charges against Joe Holland," said Peter Breen, Thomas More Society executive director and legal counsel. "The First Amendment protects prayer on a public sidewalk in Chicago the same as in any other city in the country. We hope that the city will cease the suppression of pro-life speech under the 'bubble zone' ordinance and dismiss the lone remaining case, brought against David Avignone, who was arrested a few days after Joe."
