The Daily Brief - Wednesday, August 18, 2010

". . . " the LORD alone will be exalted in that day." (Isaiah 2:11)

The Daily Brief

1. Pelosi Calls for Probe of Mosque Foes - Fox News

Speaker suggests a coordinated political effort is behind the opposition to a proposed mosque near Ground Zero. (To read more on this news, see the article by Gary Bauer, below.)

- Why don't they just let American's take a vote on what should happen? Did Nancy Pelosi check with the victims' families? We the people think it is laughable to detour the public with a probe into the funding behind the voice of America. Pray that no worker will lift a finger to build something so blatantly Anti-American. We would never be able to build a church at Mecca. Intercede for righteousness to rule here.

- Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let the avenging of the outpoured blood of your servants be known among the nations before our eyes!

Return sevenfold into the lap of our neighbors the taunts with which they have taunted you, O Lord!

But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. (Psalm 79:10,12,13)

2. Decision Not to Rebuild Church Destroyed on 9/11 Surprises Greek Orthodox Leaders - Fox News

Greek Orthodox leaders trying to rebuild the only church destroyed in the Sept. 11 terror attacks expressed shock this week after learning, via Fox News, that government officials had killed a deal to relocate the church.

The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, once a tiny, four-story building in the shadows of lower Manhattan, was destroyed in 2001 by one of the falling World Trade Center towers. Nobody from the church was hurt in the attack, but the congregation has, for the past eight years, been trying to rebuild its house of worship. Read more.

- As the nation and the world are watching, they know that America's faith was not one of the 'buried treasures" in the rubble of our Twin Towers on 9/11. Ask God for His hand of mercy on these church leaders as we pray and praise Him. Give God glory that when no one can figure out what justice is, we can go to Him.

- Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'Get justice for me from my adversary.' (Luke 18:3)

3. Creeping Sharia law comes to the gridiron - American Family Association

Sharia law has now become entrenched in high school football in Dearborn, Michigan as it advances its occasionally noiseless creep over the landscape.

A Michigan high school team, believe it or not, is holding its football practices in the middle of the night to keep its players from committing offenses during Ramadan. The team practices from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

ESPN notes that the team is "predominantly Muslim," which means of course that every non-Muslim on this squad is forced to yield to Sharia law whether he wants to or not. He is forced to accommodate his sleeping schedule to the dictates of Islam whether he believes in the Koran or not. Their lives are being governed by Sharia law, right here in the United States of America.
So much for religious liberty in Dearborn, Michigan, and so much for the separation of mosque and school and mosque and state. Such a separation does not exist in Islamic thought, and because the ACLU and others on the left hate America as much as Islam does, you will hear no peeps of protest from those who normally are hyper-vigilant about transgressions of their view of the First Amendment.

This illustrates another truth about Islam. It is not a religion so much as an entire, totalitarian ideology that is determined to control every aspect of life, right down to when you can practice football.

Let's be clear here. Dearborn, Michigan has now become a Muslim enclave, a Sharia enclave encircled by sovereign U.S. soil. It will soon be impossible, if it's not already, to recognize this community as a part of the United States of America.

- Please intercede until every ounce of Shiria Law can only be practiced outside of the Continental US and its soil. Ask that God's strategies, which He is giving, work faith and country back into our soil, physically and the 'soil' of our hearts. Pray for these students on both sides that are being wrongly taught, that God will show Himself strong on their behalf through His body of believers, the church in America.

- Because you relied on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. (I Chronicles 16:8b-9a)

4. New Study: Oil from Gulf Spill Settling on Sea Floor - VOA

A new study by scientists in the Gulf of Mexico finds that oil from the worst offshore oil spill in history is settling on the sea floor, where it is harming critical microscopic organisms.

- The oil might be "buried," but it is not gone. Let's not forget to pray about the impact of every aspect of this disaster -- for the protection and safety of all who live and work in the region of the Gulf Coast, and for the recovery of the economy in that part of our nation. Pray!

- "Pray without ceasing." (I Thess. 5:17)

5. ISRAEL DISCOVERS 1.5 BILLION BARRELS OF OIL - Joel Rosenberg

Deuteronomy says "oil" and "hidden treasures" will be found in Israel in the last days of history. The prophecies of Ezekiel 38 & 39 indicate Israel will be significantly prosperous in the last days, before a Russian-Iranian-Turkish alliance forms against her and seeks to destroy her.

* Today's headline from Ynet News: "1.5 BILLION BARRELS OF OIL DISCOVERED NEAR ROSH HA'AYIN."

Israeli public must wait until September to see if country is sitting on profitable oil reserve, but statement to TASE gives peek into extent of Megged reserve. Question remains: How much of it is recoverable? Full details here.

- Offer a great chorus of PRAISE that oil has been discovered under the land of Israel -- and just in time, too!! Pray that the other questions posed in this article from YNet News will be answered for the blessing of the people of the land. Praise God!

- " . . . if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)

6. RUSSIA TO BEGIN FUELING IRAN'S NUCLEAR REACTOR ON SATURDAY - Joel Rosenberg

On Saturday, Russia begins fueling Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactor. Former Amb. John Bolton says Israel has just a few days to bomb the reactor before it goes hot. I personally don't think they will, but let's be praying for the Lord to give PM Netanyahu and his cabinet great wisdom to do the right thing at the right time.

- We agree: Let's be praying for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- that he will know the right thing to do, in the right way, at the right time. Pray!

- "Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength. By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice, by me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth." (Proverbs 8:14-16)

7. Bolton: Obama won't strike Iranian nuclear reactor - Jerusalem Post

Former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton said he didn't see "any signs whatsoever that President Obama would make the necessary decision" to strike Iran's nuclear reactor, speaking in an interview with Israel Radio Tuesday.

- Not to decide . . . is to decide . . . As Scripture has promised, in the end, Israel must stand alone against her enemies; for no other nation will stand with her. BUT GOD.

Thank God that He, and He alone, will defend this tiny nation from an enemy whose sole desire is to see her wiped off the map of the world. Wait, pray, trust, and behold . . . for GOD is about to show Himself mighty on behalf of Zion. Pray!

- "Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, . . . Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies." (I Chronicles 17:9,10)

8. Iran says to unveil array of weapons next week - AFP

Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Tuesday that Iran will unveil next week an array of weapons, including missiles, speedboats and a long range drone, the ISNA news agency reported. Two missiles, Qiam (Rising) and the third generation Fateh 110 (Conqueror) would be tested next week when Iran marks the annual government week, Vahidi said in reference to the Iranian week which starts on Saturday.

Iran will also unveil the long-range drone, Karar, he said using the nickname of revered Shiite Imam Ali. (Read more)

- Offer praise to our God that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. Pray for the salvation of all the citizens of Iran, even as they must live under the heavy hand of this dictator. Thank the Lord that He WILL fight to protect Israel, when the time comes, too. Pray!

- "In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. . ." (Zech. 12:8)

9. Floods in Pakistan Worst in UN History - Worthy News

Recent flooding in Pakistan has been called the worst in UN history, with the death toll reaching as high as 1,600 people, and millions more impacted by the devastation, Worthy News has learned. Although this figure is less than 0.003 percent of the total loss of life than that of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir, and the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake combined, estimates are that almost 14,000,000 people are affected by the floods.

- Please intercede for the thousands of people affected by the worst floods in Pakistan's history. Ask the Lord to draw men to himself through this time of trial for so many. Pray for comfort, aid and order in this unfathomable mess, that millions of people would find their hope and help in the love that God is willing to bring to this region.

- For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. (Romans 5:6)

10. PAKISTAN: How You Can Help - CHPP

There are many relief agencies that are sending supplies to Pakistan, as these floods continue. One agency we recommend highly is HISG: the Humanitarian Services International Group. This team really gets the job done; and the funds you send enables equipment and supplies to go directly into the hands of the people of Pakistan.

To learn more about this opportunity to help Pakistan through HISG, please visit their website at by going here. Thank you!!

Ground Zero Mosque: A Prophetic fulfillment of Pauline Letter

In an interview on KCBS Radio, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for an investigation into those who oppose the building of a mosque and Islamic center near Ground Zero of the 911 attacks by Muslim terrorists. Pelosi said, "There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded." So now all those who are expressing their disgust over this proposed Islamic monument to its 911 terrorist attacks should be investigated as to how they are getting their money. Some 68% of Americans oppose the mosque. That's a lot of government investigation proposed by Pelosi.

Instead, it might be wiser to investigate where the Muslims are getting their money to build the mosque and Islamic center, and whether the effort is being funded by those who support terrorism or the destruction of the United States. Let's start with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, founder of the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the organizer of the Ground Zero mosque initiative. Rauf has been billed as a "moderate" Muslim Imam who seeks to build the Ground Zero mosque to foster "peaceful Muslim-Western relations." Rauf refuses to say where the $100 million is coming from to build the mosque. He has told American media its being funded by donations from American Muslims.

Rauf, however, in an interview with the Saudi-owned Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, says funding of the mosque will come from the US as well as from Muslims overseas. Rauf's American Society for Muslim Advancement is partially funded by the Saudis. Interesting that the State Department is sending Rauf on a goodwill mission to the Middle East--a mission Fox News says will take him to United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia. State Department spokesman PJ Crowley says, "we have informed him about our prohibition against fundraising while on a speaking tour. We do not expect him to fundraise. " Yes, but what prevents him from fundraising on his own personal time during the trip? Probably nothing.

Meanwhile, the Ground Zero mosque issue is becoming such a political liability to the Democrats that Democratic New York Governor David Paterson plans to offer "state owned" land to Rauf's group in order to get them to move the project. Separation of church and state apparently only applies to Christians in America. Pelosi wants an investigation into Americans who might be funding the mosque opposition, yet no investigation into whether terrorist money is being used to build it. The Democrats now want to provide state-owned property to build a Muslim mosque and community center. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse deceiving and being deceived." And so it is today.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Pelosi Demands An Investigation

Finally, a leading Democrat is demanding an investigation related to the Ground Zero mosque. For weeks, we've been urging members of Congress to join Rep. Peter King (R-NY) in calling for an investigation of the funding for the planned $100 million mega-mosque. A few Democrats have been willing to break publicly with President Obama on the mosque, but none have gone so far as to demand an investigation.

The good news is that Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants an investigation. The bad news is that she is demanding an investigation of those Americans who oppose building the mosque. On a San Francisco talk show yesterday, Pelosi got frustrated when the first questions asked were about the mosque. Here is her comment:

"There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded. How is this being ginned up that here we are talking about . . . something of great interest to [San Francisco] as we go forward to an election about the future of our country, and two of the first three questions are about a zoning issue in New York City?"

Yes, that's right - Pelosi wants to investigate me and anyone else who disagrees with her. I guess we shouldn't be surprised. After all, it was Speaker Pelosi who last year called the ObamaCare town hall protestors "un-American."

Perhaps if her lease on the Speaker's office is renewed for another two years, Pelosi will launch the House Committee on Un-American and Anti-Liberal Activities. But she'll be one busy lady. As I noted yesterday, a recent CNN poll found that 68% of Americans, including 70% of Independents and 54% of Democrats, oppose the Ground Zero mosque!

Pelosi would have to investigate Harry Reid, and she would have to investigate Muslims like Neda Bolourchi. And she would even have to go after the 9/11 Families.

I agree with Rep. Peter King (R-NY), who called Pelosi's comment "a threat." Responding to the speaker's outrageous remarks today, King said: "I only see it as a threat by the speaker to intimidate people who are speaking out against the location of the mosque. . . . I'm thinking of the families - the family members . . .. I mean, these are people whose hearts have been broken by Sept. 11. The wound has now been torn open. Are they going to have to face an investigation by Speaker Nancy Pelosi somehow implying that they're part of a conspiracy?" (Gary Bauer)

Democrats In Disarray

While Dunn is sticking to her talking points by portraying Republicans as villains, the truth is that opposition to Obama's endorsement of the Ground Zero mega-mosque is bipartisan. According to the CNN poll, 70% of Independents and 54% of Democrats oppose the mosque. Surely the White House was aware of this poll and the passions surrounding the issue.

But today's New York Daily News reports that Obama's endorsement of the mosque at last week's White House Ramadan dinner caught virtually everyone by surprise. Many Capitol Hill Democrats are complaining that they were blindsided by the news.

According to the Daily News, top White House officials were divided on the issue and failed to inform New York's two Democrat senators of Obama's decision. As a result, "White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has spent three days on the phone doing damage control with angry Democrats."

Now some of those "angry Democrats" are breaking publicly with Obama. The most notable defection has been Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, who is struggling in his reelection effort. In a statement yesterday, Reid said, "the mosque should be built some place else." How intolerant of you, Harry!

Jeff Greene, a Democrat candidate running in the Florida Senate primary, said, "President Obama has this all wrong and I strongly oppose his support for building a mosque near Ground Zero especially since Islamic terrorists have bragged and celebrated destroying the Twin Towers and killing nearly 3,000 Americans." Welcome to the Know-Nothing Party, Mr. Greene. (Gary Bauer)

Muslims Against The Mosque?

If left-wing elites want to portray conservative opponents of the Ground Zero mosque as intolerant Islamophobes, how do they explain Neda Bolourchi, Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah - Muslims who oppose the mosque? Ms. Bolourchi lost her mother in the 9/11 attacks. She wrote a very moving editorial in the Washington Post last week describing the mosque as "a symbol of victory for militant Muslims around the world."

Raza and Fatah are board members of the Muslim Canadian Congress. They recently wrote in the Ottawa Citizen, "we Muslims know the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation to thumb our noses at the infidel."

Are Neda Bolourchi, Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah bigots too? (Gary Bauer)

Saudi Commentary on Iran Threat

Saudi Daily: Military Option May be Best Solution to Iranian Nuclear Crisis

An editorial in the Saudi daily Al-Madina, published in the wake of announcements in Iran and Russia regarding the imminent activation of the nuclear reactor in Bushehr, took a hard line vis-à-vis the Iranian nuclear program, claiming that the military option may be the best way to deal with it. The article reflected the Gulf states' growing tension and concern regarding Iran's nuclear program, and mentioned their proximity to the Bushehr reactor.

Following are excerpts from the editorial:[1]

"Tehran's [August 13, 2010] announcement, confirmed by Russia, that an Iranian nuclear reactor would be inaugurated this month in Bushehr, on the Arabian Gulf coast, and that it would be equipped with fuel and would operate as a nuclear facility, is an indication that the region is now entering a new phase.

"In taking this action, Tehran is ignoring all the advice, warnings, and requests to halt its nuclear program, or at the very least to try to continue it under clear and open international inspection that would guarantee that it does not have a military facet. If [Tehran] insists upon going ahead [with the program] without the agreement of the international community, it will bring embarrassment and suspicion upon every [country] that supported [Iran's] right to peaceful nuclear energy.

"More importantly, by means of this action, Tehran is moving its conflict with the international community into high gear, and [in this case] some may consider the military option to be the best solution. [Delaying recourse to this option] may lead to a point where it is impossible to implement it - if Tehran manages to produce a nuclear bomb of its own.

"What is of concern is [the fact] that the Bushehr reactor is closer to several Gulf capitals than to the Iranian capital itself, as well as the fact that it is very near the crucial oil routes which pass through the Arabian Gulf - placing the neighboring countries in great danger, both in the event of an attack and in the event of radioactive leakage. Moreover, [the Bushehr reactor] may become the site where Tehran will develop its nuclear weapons, which it may use to impose demands or exert pressure on the region. This is a suspicion that Iran has not managed to refute to date.

"If Tehran is interested in the success of its nuclear program for peaceful purposes, and if it wants to make progress in order to ensure prosperity for its people, it must maximize its cooperation with the IAEA. The IAEA, for its part, must display a little flexibility with Tehran, since... equipping the reactor with nuclear fuel is the point of no return. When this happens, the Bushehr reactor will become a facility for nuclear energy.

"All parties must be judicious in confronting the new situation, and must make sure that the inauguration of Bushehr is not a preamble to disturbances or tremors in the region."

About Shariah Law (Part One)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHARIAH

What is Shariah?

Shariah, often referred to as "Islamic Law," is in actuality a legal doctrine based on the Quran and Hadith (sayings and acts of Mohammed), but one which goes far beyond what Westerners would regard as religious matters or routine legal matters.

What is covered by Shariah?

Shariah covers all aspects of life, including criminal law, domestic law, statecraft and warfare (Jihad). Shariah encompasses personal ethics and legal issues, religion and state governance, this world and the afterlife.

How is Shariah related to violent Jihad?

Shariah mandates violent Jihad as a religious obligation. Violent Jihad's purpose against non-Muslims or former Muslims is to establish Islam's rule worldwide. The establishment of Shariah rule is a stated goal of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Hezbollah, HAMAS, Al Shabaab, Abu Sayaf, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jemaah Islamiya and other Jihadist known or designated terrorist organizations, as well as the Muslim Brotherhood.

Who interprets and rules on Shariah law?

Shariah is interpreted, adjudicated and substantially controlled by a relatively small group of Islamic Shariah scholars worldwide.

The Good News Corner

More Young Adults are Going into Ministry

By Teresa Neumann, Breaking Christian News, Aug. 13, 2010)

USA Today reports that for the past 10 years theological schools are seeing younger students enroll for master of divinity degrees, a trend many denominations see as a positive sign.
"A pastor usually attracts persons 10 years above and below their own age range," says Gail Ford Smith, director of the Center for Clergy Excellence at the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. "If you have a 27-year-old starting a new worship service, they're going to attract people ages (17) to 37. That really does appeal to us if we're trying to reach mission fields of those who've not yet been connected to God through Jesus Christ." (USA Today) Read more.
