The Daily Brief - Tuesday, May 25, 2010

"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." (2 Peter 3:18)

The Daily Brief

1. Obama Seeks Modified Line-item Veto - Politico

On Monday, the Obama team proposed a line-item veto with a twist: The president would have a limited time after a bill is passed to submit a package of rescissions that must be considered by Congress in straight up or down votes. First, it would require that a package of proposed rescission be submitted within 45 days after the final passage of an appropriations bill. Second, Congress would not be permitted to amend the package of cuts. Third, the House and Senate would face time limits for debate, which would guarantee the president's cuts get an up or down vote rather quickly.

• Lord, we pray that this line-item veto power will not be without restraints and that the president will not have complete control over any bills and decisions made. Give us a righteous nation with godly leaders.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan. (Proverbs 29:2)

2. Compromise reached on 'don't ask, don't tell' - Washington Post

President Obama has agreed to a compromise between lawmakers and the Defense Department that removes a key obstacle to the repeal of the military's 17-year-old ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the armed forces. Read more.

more.

• Lord, again we see decisions by our Congress accelerating votes on issues without carefully seeking counsel. We pray our officials seek advice and counsel with those who are closest to this issue -- the generals -- before voting.

For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure. (Proverbs 11:14)

3. Income From Private Sector Shrinks - USA Today

Paychecks from private business shrank to their smallest share of personal income in U.S. history during the first quarter of this year, a USA TODAY analysis of government data finds. The recession has erased 8 million private jobs. Even before the downturn, private wages were eroding because of the substitution of health and pension benefits for taxable salaries.

Economist David Henderson of the conservative Hoover Institution says a shift from private wages to government benefits saps the economy of dynamism. "People are paid for being rather than for producing," he says.

• Lord, stir up our economy. Stir up the people with new ideas and concepts to start their own businesses. We pray against complacency. We declare Jehovah Jireh our provider, and not reliance on the government.

who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh's protection, to Egypt's shade for refuge. (Isaiah 30:2)

4. Government Turns Up Pressure on BP - USA Today

Federal officials and lawmakers said Monday that they will step up the pressure on British energy giant BP to stop the gushing well in the Gulf of Mexico. Governor Bobby Jindal, meanwhile, reiterated his pleas with administration officials Monday to approve a $350 million plan by local leaders to create offshore sand berms to keep the oil from hitting the marshes. The plan is awaiting an emergency permit by the Army Corps of Engineers.

• Heavenly Father, we pray for engineers to create a workable way to quickly stop this great leak of oil into the Gulf. We pray that all parties work together and that the government will not be slow to respond.

Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility. He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him. (Proverbs 18:12, 13)

5. U.S. Was Not Ready For Major Oil Spill - Wall Street Journal

Crude gushing into the Gulf of Mexico and washing ashore in Louisiana is exposing how ill-prepared the U.S. has been to respond to a major offshore oil spill.

• Lord, we pray the government will be held responsible for their delay in this situation where federal help is needed in order to stop this leak. We pray that the government will have a plan in place, to respond more rapidly, in a crisis such as this one.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; so shall your poverty come like a prowler, and your need like an armed man. (Proverbs 24:33, 34)

6. Oil Tax Increase Would Help Pay to Clean Up Spills - AP

Responding to the massive BP oil spill, Congress is getting ready to quadruple -- to 32 cents a barrel -- a tax on oil used to help finance cleanups. The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.

• Lord, we pray that the elected officials will stop these practices of taxing and over-spending. And if they will not, replace them with people who are wise and frugal.

The Lord is righteous in her midst, He will do no unrighteousness. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He never fails, But the unjust knows no shame. (Zephaniah 3:5)

7. Planned Parenthood Debuts New Building - Chron

The $26 million project, dubbed Prevention Park, is the largest Planned Parenthood administrative and medical facility in the nation. It also serves as the headquarters for 12 clinics - 10 in Texas and two in Louisiana. There's room to increase Texas clients by 30 percent, from 90,000 visits to those 10 locations in 2009 to roughly 120,000 annually.

Planned Parenthood Building Opens 5/20/10 - KIAH

Planned Parenthood had their dedication and ribbon cutting yesterday. During the ceremony PP starting "praying" calling the new building "holy and sacred ground."

• Heavenly Father, we come against this abomination of the killing of unborn children in America. We take authority over this largest abortion facility in America and we command the clinic and all other abortion clinics to close through atrophy. We pray that everyone entering these facilities for any reason will be repulsed by the idea of entering. We pray for multitudes of people to speak out against these abortions and for the post abortion people to speak against abortion even louder. Help us to end abortion permanently!

They even sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons, and shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood. Thus they were defiled by their own works, and played the harlot by their own deeds. Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people, So that He abhorred His own inheritance. (Psalms 106:37-40)

The Soviet Seed Now A Strong Tree In America

Former Soviet KGB agent Yuri Bezmenov, who defected from the Soviet Union in 1970, conducted an interview in 1984 about Soviet infiltration methods and the plan to take over America. Bezmenov told Edward Griffin of the John Birch Society that by 1970 the Soviet Union already had infiltrated the United States through brainwashing left-leaning people in the news media, the entertainment industry, politics, business, education, and religion. He said that the Soviet Union used a brainwashing strategy called ideological subversion designed to change the perception of reality of every American so "no one is able to come to sensible conclusions" to defend themselves, their families, their community, and their country.

Bezmenov said there are four stages of ideological subversion. The first stage, demoralization, which takes 15-30 years according to Bezmenov, was completed before 1985. The second stage, also completed, is destabilization. This is where people destabilize the entire nation through actions that are counter to common sense and sound practices. The third stage is creating crisis.

And the fourth stage is normalization. Bezenov said that the leftists that help create these stages are the first to be executed by a communist dictatorship because once they find out they have perpetrated a lie, they become the most ardent opposition. Those who stand against communism by warning others are also executed.

Bezmenov said that the Soviets used brainwashed leftists to teach Marxism-Leninism ideology to several generations of American students. He said that these teachings included feminism, sexual liberation, hedonism, anti-war sentiments, liberation theology, and globalism. He said these students are now the people who are the business, religious, political, educational, media, and entertainment leaders of American society. He said, "You are stuck with them. They are contaminated. They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli. . . . You cannot change their mind, even if you expose them to authentic information . . . the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible."

To reverse this process, Bezmenov said writing letters will not work. He said, "There must be a very strong national effort to educate people in the spirit of real patriotism, number one. Number two, to explain to them the real danger of socialist, communist, welfare state, big brother government...The moment at least part of the United States population is convinced that the danger is real, they have to force their government...to stop aiding communism." I will add another way to reverse the process: Mark 16:15, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." And Ephesians 6:20, " . . . that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak." Christian Americans must see clearly and act decisively.

Research Debunks One Lie of the Gay Agenda

FRC Research Debunks One Lie of the Gay Agenda:

Homosexuality in Women: It's Nurture, Not Nature

Original research conducted by FRC has just driven another nail in the coffin of the "gay gene" myth. Homosexual activists want to win the affirmation and celebration of homosexual relationships as a matter of "civil rights." That campaign rests largely on an effort to persuade people that homosexuality is fixed at birth by genetic or biological factors, rather than influenced by social and environmental ones. But the latest edition of Mapping America, the flagship publication of FRC 's Marriage and Religion Research Institute (MARRI), has proven that family structure in childhood has a huge influence on the likelihood of women to engage in homosexual conduct as adults.

Drawing on data from the National Survey of Family Growth, FRC's Patrick Fagan, Ph.D., working with D. Paul Sullins, Ph.D., found that women who grew up with their married, biological mother and father were the least likely to have had a same-sex sexual partner in the previous year. Women who did not grow up with both biological parents were anywhere from 50% to 240% more likely to have had a homosexual partner. The study also looked at the correlation between homosexual conduct and religious attendance. Overall, it found that women from non-intact families who never attend worship are four and a half times more likely to have homosexual relations than women from intact families who worship weekly. It's clear that nurture, not nature, plays the principal role in determining which women pursue homosexual relationships. (Family Research Council)

Two Members of Congress Question Why Census Bureau is Leasing Space
in a Mosque as an Office

IPT Report on Census Lease Prompts Inquiries

Two members of Congress want the General Services Administration (GSA) to explain what research, if any, was done before signing a $582,000 lease with a Virginia mosque that law enforcement officials say has been the subject of numerous terror-financing investigations. The letters to GSA Administrator Martha Johnson from U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa and Senator Susan Collins follow an Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) story disclosing the 2008 lease for a Census Bureau office, and the law enforcement assessments of the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center.

Records from the Department of Homeland Security obtained by the IPT indicate the mosque was "operating as a front for Hamas operatives in U.S.," and "has been linked to numerous individuals linked to terrorism financing." Issa, the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, wrote that he was concerned "there are insufficient procedures in place to vet potential contract partners." It would be "evidence of an alarming inter-agency communication failure" if the law enforcement reports about Dar Al-Hijrah were not available to GSA officials. If it is available, and GSA simply didn't check, "there may be an even more problematic systemic issue." (The IPT Blog) Read more

Hearing Verifies Reports on Times Square Bomb Plotter

Alleged Times Square car bomber Faisal Shahzad made his first court appearance Tuesday evening since his arrest on May 3. While federal prosecutors used the opportunity to confirm some earlier reports regarding the investigation, new details continue to emerge about the failed terrorist attack. During the 10-minute hearing at the federal courthouse in Manhattan, prosecutors confirmed what has already been widely reported. Shahzad waived his right to a speedy court appearance and to an attorney, and explained that he has been cooperating with law enforcement officials. The judge also reviewed the charges that have been filed against Shahzad-attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, using a destructive device in connection with an attempted crime of violence, transporting explosives, and attempting to destroy property with fire and explosives. If convicted, as the court explained, Shahzad could face up to life in prison. (IPT News) Read more

Free Gaza flotilla readies for confrontation with Israeli navy

Organizers of the nine-ship armada attempting to break Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip this week say they will not resist a possible takeover by IDF naval forces. An Israeli government spokesman responded that the fleet is welcome to deliver its cargo of construction materials and medical supplies to an Israeli port. The looming standoff at sea comes as Israel has allowed 637 truckloads, containing 14,069 tons of humanitarian aid, into Gaza just in the past week. In addition, the Financial Times is reporting that Gaza is experiencing a glut in consumer goods smuggled into the Strip by cross-border tunnels. These tunnels have become so efficient that shops all over Gaza are bursting with such goods as Coca-Cola, Nescafe, Snickers and Heinz ketchup, all very cheap and widely available. Tunnel operators have also flooded Gaza with Korean refrigerators, German food mixers and Chinese air conditioning units. "Everything I demand, I can get," says Abu Amar al-Kahlout, who sells household goods out of a warehouse big enough to accommodate a passenger jet. (ICEJ News)

A GREAT Victory For Kentucky!!!! ACLU is 0 for 4

The Ten Commandments display in Grayson County, Kentucky, will stand!!

Dear Friends,

This is a great victory after an eight year battle. It is good to see the enemy turned at the gates through prayer and perseverance. We are beginning to see more and more victories in the courts.

Thank God for Christian attorneys who are anointed and appointed by God to defend righteousness through the legal systems in our Nation.

Many Blessings,

The Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected a request to rehear the case, and Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel does not think the ACLU will take their argument any further. "I doubt very seriously the ACLU will ask the Supreme Court to get involved in this matter, because every case that they've had since 2005, when I argued the case at the U.S. Supreme Court on this very issue, they've lost at the court of appeals," Staver explains.

He believes they know that the higher court will not favor their arguments. "So I doubt...they'll move forward with this," he reiterates. "This is another defeat. This is the fourth federal court of appeals defeat since 2005 against the ACLU involving the Ten Commandments."

The display -- titled "Foundations of Law and Government" -- exhibits and explains the significance of the Ten Commandments, the Magna Carta, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Preamble to the Kentucky Constitution. It also includes the Star-Spangled Banner, the National Motto, and a picture of Lady Justice. (OneNewsNow)
