"So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm." (Joel 2:13)
Today's Daily Brief
1. Dems Dodd and Dorgan Will Not Seek Re- election - IFA
With the 2010 election year barely under way, two prominent senators and one governor -- all Democrats -- announced that they are ditching plans to run for re- election in the latest signs of trouble for President Barack Obama's controlling party. Taken together, the decisions by Sens. Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota as well as Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter caused more consternation for Democrats as they struggle to defend themselves in a sour political environment for incumbents, particularly the party in charge forcing Health Care measures the public opposes.
Democrats, who have enjoyed and used a 60-40 Senate majority that includes two independents who vote with them, will now have to defend four open seats in the Senate. The others are Delaware and Illinois, where Sens. Ted Kaufman, who replaced Vice President Joe Biden, and Roland Burris, who replaced Obama, aren't running for full terms.
- Continue to pray that God will remove the ungodly from positions of government power in the USA. Pray for the salvation of all the retirees and for repentance for their past violations of the Constitution. Praise the Lord that He has already begun to respond to our cries for liberty and integrity.
- "Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked." (Exodus 23:7)
2. Obama Demanding Swift Health Care Passage - IFA
President Barack Obama is prodding House and Senate Democrats to get him a final health care bill as soon as possible, encouraging them to bypass the usual "reconciliation committee" between the two chambers in the interest of speed.
Obama delivered the message at an Oval Office meeting Tuesday evening with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Reid's No. 2, Sen. Dick Durbin, joined in by phone. They agreed that rather than setting up a formal conference committee to resolve differences between health bills passed by the House and Senate, the House will work off the Senate's version, amend it and send it back to the Senate for final passage, according to a House leadership aide, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss the private meeting.
Obama himself will take a hands-on role, convening another meeting with congressional leaders at the White House today the aide said. The aim is to get a final bill to Obama's desk before the State of the Union address sometime in early February.
- Pro-life leaders are calling for prevailing prayer and pressure upon "Blue Dog" moderate Democrats in House to continue to "hold the line" on demanding that taxpayer monies not be used to fund abortions in this plan.
- "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it...." (Ezekiel 22:30)
3. OP-ED: Hiding health bills behind closed doors - Washington Times
It may be a new year, but congressional Democrats are planning the same old sorts of . . . tactics in their bid to take over America's health care system. Congressional Republicans, especially in the Senate, should not let them get away with it. Transparency and ethics should be Republican rallying cries, and obstruction on those grounds should be a point of pride.
- Father, we ask that every person even remotely involved in pushing this health care system be surrounded day and night with a holy wall of restraint. Lord, take this bill in Your hands, pull the evil root out of it, cause it to implode from within, and turn to rubble in Your hands. In Jesus Name.
- "You shall not have in your bag divers weights, a great and a small. For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the Lord our God." (Deuteronomy 25:13, 15)
4. Lone Star State Begins Nullification Initiative - IFA
Citizens in Texas are mobilizing for a Obamacare Nullification Rally (calling for Special Session) on the Capitol in Austin on Saturday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m.
A special session needs to be called immediately to enact and affirm the right of the State of Texas to nullify any Obamacare bill approved and signed. Texas Atty. General Greg Abbott is reportedly already in possession of the legal paperwork necessary to enact nullification, but he can only legally do so at the Governors' request.
Legal challenges and Nullification efforts are anticipated across the country as states resist the federal Health Care takeover.
- The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution's principle of Federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people. Pray that our rights, under the U.S. Constitution, be upheld in all nullification efforts in the land.
- "This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." (Jer. 6:16)
5. Obama says bomb attempt an intelligence "screw-up" - Reuters
The attempted Christmas Day bombing of a U.S. airliner was a potentially disastrous "screw up" by the intelligence community, President Barack Obama said on Tuesday as he vowed urgent action to tighten air security.
- Father, we thank You for Your protection around this plane. Prevail against the ones responsible for this near mishap. Bind and break any agreements with the enemy that were made. Reveal all that is hidden and call forth the truth to surface. Bring forth righteous judgment that none escape what is due to them. In Jesus Name.
- "Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal: knowing that you also have a Master in heaven." (Colossians 4:1)
6. U.S. Retools Military Intelligence - Wall Street Journal
A top U.S. general in Afghanistan has ordered an overhaul of military intelligence-gathering efforts after concluding that commanders weren't receiving the information they needed to win the war.
- Father, we plead for the lives of our sons and daughters who are fighting this war, and we thank God that this order has been made. Impart godly direction and intelligence to our generals and commanders. Provide the most strategic intelligence-gathering information for the protection of our military. Release from the Pentagon all devices that will better enable our men and women to fight this war and win. In Jesus Name.
- "There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the Lord your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as He has said unto you." (Deuteronomy 11:25)
7. White House: Hold on Detainee Transfers to Yemen - IFA
The Obama administration on Tuesday suspended the transfer of detainees from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay to Yemen, a potential al Qaida hotbed.
Barack Obama yielded to pressure from both Democrats and Republicans as revelations that the Detroit Christmas bomber had received al Qaeda training in Yemen and that he had connections to radical Yemeni cleric Imam al-Awlaki. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that making more detainee transfers to Yemen was "not a good idea."
Special Prayers on This Issue from IFA:
Again, offer thanksgiving for the divine intervention represented in the failed attempt by the Christmas bomber. Offer thanksgiving, too, for this "temporary hold" on transfers.
Pray that the Lord grant the Obama administration and members of Congress discernment, wisdom and understanding regarding the dangers posed by transferring detainees to Yemen and the closure of the Guantanamo Bay facility -- intended to hold "armed combatants."
Pray that officials in Yemen are enabled to effectively track and apprehend al Qaeda leaders and radical Islamic clerics.
- Let's agree with these prayer requests from IFA! "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)
8. Time not right for new Iran sanctions: Chinese envoy - AFP
China's UN ambassador Zhang Yesui said Tuesday it is too early to contemplate new sanctions against Iran over its refusal to halt sensitive nuclear fuel work, and called for more diplomacy.
- Father, let us not take the advice of China and Iran who walk in lock-step with each other. Enforce sanctions against Iran from the advice of nations who see the calamity of nuclear activity worldwide. In Jesus Name.
- "When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at God's presence." (Psalm 9:3)

Senate election to replace Ted Kennedy
Election to be held in the State of Massachusetts on Tuesday, January 19, 2010
There is an election in Massachusetts coming up on January 19 that can literally change the face of Washington, DC. The main stream media is trying very hard to avoid talking about the special election for Ted Kennedy's seat. There is a very staunch Republican candidate against Democrat-the polls today are tied. Scott Brown is currently serving in MA state senate. He is asking everyone for help in making calls or anything else anyone is willing to do. If Scott Brown wins this election, it will break the Democrats' fillibuster-proof Senate-leaving them only 59 votes & giving us the one we need to stop their agenda.
Senator Ted Kennedy had held that seat for more than 40 years. Now it's time for a change. For more information on this election, please visit the 912 Coalition "
- When the "lion of the Senate" passed away, the Lioin of Judah ROARED and took command of that seat. Thank our Lord that He continues to ROAR in the Senate today, and thank Him for what He is about to do with this open seat in the United States Senate. Praise God!
- "And Joshua commanded the people, saying: 'Ye shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.'" (Joshua 6:10)
What Are They Hiding?
While Barack Obama is talking terrorism today, Democrat congressional leaders are huddling in secluded suites on Capitol Hill. Why? They are hammering out their differences on a socialized medicine scheme in secret, rather than in the usual conference committee process, which is held in public. Reports broke late yesterday that the Democrats would try to bypass the normal legislative process and completely cut out the GOP to shut down further debate. Democrats said they didn't want to give Republicans any more opportunities to slow down or stop the process. How stupid do they think we are?
Here's the truth: Republicans voted unanimously in opposition to this bill, but Democrats control 60 votes - enough to shut down GOP filibusters, which is exactly what the Democrats did. This is entirely their bill. Every significant Republican amendment was defeated. Every GOP attempt to block the bill was shut down. The Democrats' problem is not GOP opposition, but division in their own ranks.
So they are once again going behind closed doors as they attempt to socialize nearly 20% of our economy, pass massive new tax hikes, dramatically expand the government (including the IRS) and take away more of our freedom. It is disgusting and outrageous.
It's also a blatant violation of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's 2006 pledge that her party would "lead the most honest, most open and most ethical congress in history." And it also breaks candidate Obama's promise that the legislation would not be negotiated behind closed doors but broadcast on C-SPAN. To its credit, C-SPAN is demanding that President Obama and congressional Democrats keep their word and "allow the public full access, through television, to legislation that will affect the lives of every single American."
Don't hold your breath waiting for Obama and Pelosi to keep their promises. But it does make one wonder: If passing this bill would be such a success, why all the secrecy? What are they hiding?

Creating Crisis To Reduce Freedom
The Muslim Christmas underwear bomber incident has prompted a US government crackdown on airport security, but many wonder if the action is the result of creating crisis to reduce liberties. Last year, sources within the US security system said that because of the current Administration's relaxing of security measures and the prohibition of certain security procedures established by the Bush Administration that terrorist attacks against Americans were going to increase in a matter of time. They said that Muslim terrorists were emboldened by the White House's kinder approach toward Islam and that many methods of collecting information on would-be terrorists had been banned.
The US government has now requested that people flying from 14 countries receive extra security checks at the airports. This is a reasonable request that doesn't go far enough, but it has caused a worldwide ruckus. Nigeria, where the Muslim Christmas underwear bomber originated, says that the US is discriminating against its country. Nigeria's information officer says that Nigeria doesn't have a history of terrorism, so it should not be discriminated against. She says "It is unfair to discriminate against over 150 million people because of the behavior of one person." Anybody that has traveled to Nigeria knows that it is one of the most unsafe places in all of Africa. Her comments are laughable.
The list of 14 countries that the US government wants to keep an eye on are: Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yeman. Cuba is officially denouncing the policy as "anti-terrorist paranoia." Associated Press reports that airports in many of these countries are ignoring the US request and even some of America's allies in the European countries of Germany, France and Spain are reticent to comply with the request. The US government, however, has the upper hand as it can fine airlines or bar them from flying in the US if they do not comply. Meanwhile, Americans are subjected to even stronger security at airports.
AP reports that government officials are finally transferring dozens of names onto its "terrorist watch" list and dozens from the "terrorist watch" list to the "no fly" list. If not for the current Administration's relaxing of security standards, these actions would have been ongoing, but now law abiding citizens are subject to even more restrictions. WorldNetDaily asks if it is possible that this "administration is intentionally creating crisis for the purpose of converting America into a full-fledged socialist state?" Americans should strongly question this government. Ecclesiastes 7:7 says, "Surely oppression makes a wise man mad." When will the wise rise up in righteous anger?

- "I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it." (Psalm 81:10)
