The Daily Brief - Thursday, December 10, 2009

"Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." (2 Kings 6:16)

Today's Daily Brief

1. A) Senate rejects Nelson amendment on abortion - Washington Post

The Senate narrowly rejected an amendment that would have restricted abortion coverage in the pending health-care bill, leaving in question whether Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) has the 60 votes needed to move the bill toward final passage.

B) 10 Million Could Lose Employer Coverage Under Senate Health Bill, CBO Says - Fox News

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that up to 10 million people could lose their employer-based insurance coverage under the Senate's health care reform bill.

C) Get Ready for Healthcare 'Sticker Shock' - Fox News

Health care overhaul now looks like it really will happen, with a compromise coming together in the Senate to give uninsured Americans options they've never had before. But it won't be a free ride. Have your checkbooks and credit cards ready. There's a price for health care security -- particularly for solid middle-class households, who wouldn't get much help with premiums.

- Father, as this bill is rammed through without protection against the shedding of innocent blood, and seems to target middle class working Americans, we ask for Your mercy over our nation. We have departed from your ways and become hardened to life itself. We ask that You restore life and righteousness to America, and bring provision to those this bill will harm.

- "Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of earth may oppress no more."(Psalm 10:17,18)

2. Private Contractor Posted Secret TSA Screening Manual Online - ABC News

While insisting the security of the public was never placed at risk, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Wednesday that her department is conducting a review to determine how the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) air passenger screening manual ended up online.

- Lord, we pray a hedge of Your protection around air travelers, and that no plan of the enemy will prosper. We ask that whoever committed this act will be caught and justice will be served.

- "He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so their hands cannot carry out their plans." (Job 5:12)

3. Pakistan: Detained Americans Admit Jihad Plan - Fox News

Five young American Muslims admitted traveling to Pakistan for jihad, and were on their way to a training camp when they were swept up in an anti-terrorism raid, according to Pakistani law enforcement officials.

- Lord, thank You that these men were caught before they were able to do harm. We ask for continued revelation of hidden terrorist dangers both within the United States and abroad.

- "The Lord is known by the judgment He executes; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands." ( Psalm 9:16)

4. EU draft document on division of Jerusalem - Ha'aretz

The current holder of the rotating European Union presidency, Sweden, has put together a draft document calling for the division of Jerusalem between Israel and a future Palestinian state and implying that the EU would recognize a unilateral Palestinian declaration of statehood.

- Lord, as we continue to pray and stand against this situation, we ask that You in Your sovereign power step in to protect Your City of Zion, Jerusalem.

- "And the Lord will take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem." (Zechariah 2:12)

5. Iran Accuses U.N. of Using Observatory on Border as Spy Station - Fox News

Iran accused world powers on Wednesday of trying to spy on the country with a newly built U.N. seismic monitoring station near its border to detect tremors from nuclear explosions.

- Father, if watching what Iran is doing constitutes "spying", let it be so. We ask that this monitoring station be protected against any secret plans by Iran to destroy it.

- "we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night." (Nehemiah 4:9)

6. US, Russia closing in on nuclear agreement - AFP

The United States and Russia said they were closing in on a successor arms reduction treaty that would further slash their nuclear arsenals and put their relations on a more solid footing.

- Lord, while we pray that the world would be a safer place, we are also aware that not everyone can be trusted. We ask that those who are making these agreements will have wisdom and knowledge of any agendas that might compromise the safety of Americans.

- "The Lord brings the counsel of nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect." ( Psalm 33:10)

7. Scientist 'Pressured' to Defend Climate Research -- London Times

More than 1,700 scientists in Britain agree to sign a statement defending the "integrity and honesty" of global warming research, but at least one alleges he felt pressured to do so.

- Father, we bind the spirits of fear and intimidation in this climate agenda. We loose Your truth against the arrogance of those who would claim to be gods themselves.

- "I will halt the arrogance of the proud" (Isaiah 13:11b)
