The Daily Brief

1. Democrats' Cap-and-Trade Bill Creates 'Retrofit' Policy for Homes and Businesses - CNS News

The 1,400-page cap-and-trade legislation pushed through by House Democrats contains a new federal policy that residential, commercial, and government buildings be retrofitted to increase energy efficiency, leaving it up to the states to figure out exactly how to do that.

B) Last-Minute Amendment to Cap-and-Trade Bill Includes Indecipherable Provisions for "Central Procurement" - CNS News

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) inserted a last-minute 310-page amendment into the cap-and-trade climate change bill just hours before the bill reached a House vote last Friday evening, and the amendments included indecipherable provisions for something called a "central procurement state."

• Lord as this congress continues to hide underhanded attachments inside bills, and literally ram legislation through that is socialist in nature, we ask for Your justice over us. We ask that You intervene and send Your righteousness to stand against the flood of control that attempts to destroy America's capitalism and freedom. We pray that You will stop this bill in the Senate !

"When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19b)

2. Official: N. Korea Fires Four Short-Range Missiles - Fox News

North Korea test-fired four short-range missiles within four hours on Thursday, Pentagon officials confirmed to FOX News.

While the surface-to-ship missiles, with a range of less than 62 miles, are not capable of reaching Japan, the test-fires are a move that aggravates the already high tensions following Pyongyang's recent nuclear test and U.N. sanctions imposed as punishment.

• Father, as tension continues to escalate with North Korea, we pray for You to fully cover the United States and its allies from this danger. We declare Psalm 91 over us and firmly declare that in the Name of Jesus we trust!

"You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day." (Psalm 91:5)

3. U.S. Military Launches Major Afghan Offensive - Fox News

About one thousand U.S. Marines poured from helicopters and armored vehicles into Taliban-controlled villages in southern Afghanistan on Thursday in the first major operation under President Barack Obama's strategy to stabilize the country.

The offensive was launched shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday local time (4:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday) in Helmand province, a Taliban stronghold and the world's largest opium poppy-producing area. The goal is to clear insurgents from the hotly contested region before the nation's Aug. 20 presidential election.

B) Taliban Capture U.S. Soldier in Afghanistan; Offensive Continues - Newsmax

A commander for a hardline Taliban faction announced his militia had captured an American soldier after U.S. authorities reported a soldier missing who had stepped off base. It is the first time militants have abducted a soldier in Afghanistan and it comes in the midst of the major U.S. offensive to drive the Taliban out of a strategic valley.

• Lord we ask that You fight with our troops in this offensive, and that all enemies will be routed and removed for good. We ask that You protect and rescue our soldier that was captured and bring him back quickly.

"Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those also who hate Him flee before Him;" (Psalm 68:1)

4. Axelrod claims Iran has nuclear weapons

Top Obama adviser's statement contradicts official U.S., Israeli estimates- WorldNet Daily

In an apparent mistake, President Obama's senior adviser David Axelrod stated during an interview yesterday there are nuclear weapons in Iran which are a threat to the entire world.

No country has ever claimed Iran currently has a nuclear arsenal. A 2007 U.S. intelligence estimate previously claimed Iran halted its nuclear weapons-related work in 2003, although that report was highly criticized. Other American agencies have stated Iran could obtain nukes by 2013 or later.

• Lord, whether this man made a foolish blunder or spoke a truth that has been hidden from the American people, we ask that You undertake to correct the problem either way. It seems that many of our current administration are in the habit of "misspeaking" about situations or people. If this is simply a mistake, we ask that You not allow it to create more problems in the Middle East. If it is a truth revealed we ask that the plans of the governments involved be subjected to Your will alone.

"When my enemies turn back, they shall fall and perish at Your presence." (Psalm 9:3)

5. North Korean ship 'turned around' - BBC

A North Korean ship being tracked by the United States Navy on suspicion of transporting weapons to Burma has turned around, US officials have said.

• Lord, we rejoice at this latest turn of events! Thank You that the ship never reached Myanmar to take weapons to a government with harsh leadership. We ask that You keep all nations safe as this ship returns the way it came, and that You reveal whatever it was carrying.

"Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until You find none." (Psalm 10:15)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong" (Psalm 30:7a)

1. Abbas: Hamas hoarding weapons in plot to assassinate PA officials - Ynet News

The Palestinian Authority has intelligence indicating Hamas is planning to attack its officials, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday. Abbas' statement follows the announcement made earlier this week by the PA, in which it confirmed that members of a Hamas cell were arrested, and later confessed to plotting to carry out attacks against Palestinian Authority officials and institutions before July 7th -- the date Fatah and Hamas are expected to sign a reconciliation agreement.

2. Netanyahu: Our bond with the US is unbreakable - Ynet News

"We have a close relationship with the United States, which President Obama defined in his speech in Cairo as unbreakable, and it is indeed unbreakable," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday at the US ambassador's 4th of July party.

3. Peres to Saudi king: We can realize your vision - Ynet News

During his keynote address at the opening session of the interfaith conference in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, Israeli President Shimon Peres called on Saudi King Abdullah to meet either in Jerusalem or Riyadh, or to travel to Kazakhstan in order to advance the Israeli-Arab peace process.

4. Amnesty accuses Israel of using human shields in Gaza - AFP

Amnesty International on Thursday accused Israeli forces of war crimes, saying they used children as human shields and conducted wanton attacks on civilians during their offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Update:Hate Crimes Bill

On Hate Crimes, It's the Thought That Counts

With the help of Saturday Night Live's finest--new Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.)--liberals are accelerating their push to pass federal "hate crimes" legislation. In a letter to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) made no bones about his plan to fast-track the bill after the July 4th recess, bypassing the normal process. His maneuvering would mean that Republicans have relatively no input on legislation that would have sweeping consequences for churches, charities, Christians, and criminal law. Bob Knight sums it up as a "grab bag of ways to violate genuine constitutional rights while addressing a non-issue."
Nevertheless, the Left insists on forcing a bill through Congress that establishes "thought crimes," gives special protection to homosexuals under the law, and paves the way for the federal government to get deeply involved in crimes on the local level. The House already passed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 909) back in April. Now the Senate leadership is racing to do the same.

You can help derail their train by flooding the offices of three Committee Democrats whose votes could make all the difference--Arkansas's Blanche Lincoln, phone: 202-224-4843; Arkansas's Mark Pryor, phone: 202-224-2353; and Alaska's Mark Begich, phone: 202-224-3004. Remind them that equal justice under the law means equal protection for all! (Family Research Council)

Overcoming the World

Overcoming the World with Repentance, Faith and Good Cheer

The world is in great unrest--headlines around the world have problems related to North Korea, China, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. The list goes on and on whether related to Islamic radicalism or financial duress or totalitarian power grabs. In Honduras there has been a military coup, affiliated with Venezuela's communist dictator Hugo Chavez. North Korea's nuclear threats against the United States has caused a military build up in the surrounding area and uneasiness in South Korea. Iran has banned journalists from reporting on opposition protests across the country from its recent election, which could have been rigged by the radical Ayatollahs.
In the United States, the country is continuing on a downslide. Jobless claims are rising at the same time government-friendly economists are trying to convince people that the economy is coming out of the recession. Congress continues its tax and spend ways by passing a cap and trade global warming bill that promises to end the free enterprise system if implemented to its fullest. And the current White House has teamed with the mainstream media to make a convincing, if not false, case for socialized medicine. This is in addition to the recent socialist-style bailouts that are are driving the budget deficit far beyond previous records strapping each American citizen thousands of dollars of future debt.

The outlook for Christian believers is also pretty dim. The homosexual agenda espoused by the current White House threatens religious free speech in the name of hate crimes. There are various policies that will result in taxpayer money funding abortions both in the United States and worldwide. The Islamic colonization of America continues at a rapid pace and seems to be favored in many local areas around the nation. Even school systems are allowing the teaching of Islamic customs while at the same time not allowing Jewish and Christian traditions to be embraced by school children. The cards seem stacked against the Godly.

Many people write and ask what can be done. Certainly, we are a world and a nation not unlike what was occurring in Biblical times. There are many references to the solution when a nation is in decline because of corruption and immorality. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Jesus Christ said in John 16:33, "In the world you shall have tribulation: but be off good cheer; I have overcome the world." If we repent and place our trust in Jesus by standing on His word, we too, can overcome these times.

CAIR Distributes 100,000 Korans

CAIR Distributes 100,000 Korans; Overtly Proselytizes

Daniel Pipes

June 30, 2009

The Hamas-founded Council on American-Islamic Relations has long pretended to be a civil rights organization, comparing itself at times to the NAACP, but a close look at its record reveals the real CAIR agenda to be - in common with all Islamists - promoting the Shari`a. This can be achieved two ways. The more circuitous method influences American public opinion through the educational system, the media, the arts, the courts, and the political process. The more direct method converts Americans to Islam.

Route #1 is CAIR`s stock-in-trade, what it does most of the time. But every so often it tries route #2. For example, in 2004, CAIR published an advertisement titled "More in Common Than You Think" that argued for the similarities between Christian and Islam: "Like Christians, Muslims respect and revere Jesus. Like Christians, every day, over 1.3 billion Muslims strive to live by his teachings of love, peace, and forgiveness."

Today, CAIR took what is probably the most major step ever in the direction of da`wa (call to Islam) with the announcement of a "Share the Quran" campaign. It involves sending free copies of the Koran over the next six months to 100,000 leaders: "governors, state attorney generals, educators, law enforcement officials, state and national legislators, local elected and public officials, media professionals, and other local or national leaders who shape public opinion or determine policy."
Nor is that all: CAIR`s national executive director Nihad Awad added that "The long-term goal of the campaign is to put one million Qurans in the hands of ordinary Americans of all faiths over the next ten years."

Awad sought to portray this step as not da`wa. "This is not an effort to proselytize, but is instead intended to provide an educational resource for those who will shape the future direction of our nation." But testimony by converts to Islam reiterates that putting the Koran into the hands of non-Muslims is the best bet for winning them to the faith. (June 30, 2009) Read more.

Obama's Popularity Plunging

Rasmussen Poll: Obama's Popularity Plunging

The latest Rasmussen daily tracking poll shows that President Barack Obama for the first time has a negative approval index - more Americans disapprove of his job performance than approve.

In an exclusive Newsmax interview, pollster Scott Rasmussen also disclosed that, if the economy does not improve over the next year, Obama's numbers will deteriorate even further - and Democrats will suffer in 2010.

Newsmax.TV's Ashley Martella asked Rasmussen for an overview of the latest tracking poll.

"The raw numbers are pretty straightforward - 31 percent of Americans strongly approve of the way Barack Obama is handling his job, 33 percent strongly disapprove," Rasmussen said.

"Before the last week we never had a circumstance where the number who disapprove outweigh the number who approve. So we're in new territory. Right now the approval index, at minus two, is as low as it's been.

"What we've seen in the last month is a growing number of people who strongly disapprove, and we're seeing it at a time when the president's honeymoon is coming to an end and people are beginning to look at the policies that he's promoting."

The closeness of the approve/disapprove numbers are "yet another indicator of how evenly divided our nation is," he added. (NewsMax)

Media Questions White House Policy

White House Propaganda Machine Exposed By CBS and Helen Thomas

The Administration's deceptive push for nationalized healthcare is yet another play to control all aspects of American life. ABC News was first recognized as part of a new "state run" media partnership when it aired its so-called town hall meeting on socialized medicine from the White House without allowing any dissenting opinion whatsoever. Then the New York Times and CBS News released a poll that showed overwhelming support by Americans for socialized healthcare. Only problem was that the poll sample was skewed in favor of those who would support socialized medicine--supporters of the man who occupies the Oval Office.

Then a town hall meeting was held by the White House in Annandale, Va., to put a "human face" on why socialized medicine is needed. The questions and the guests were pre-selected by the White House to control the message. The lady used as a prop to promote socialized medicine was a volunteer for the Democratic presidential campaign. This shameless manipulation of public opinion by a heavy handed White House is wearing very thin on the national press corps. In fact, media lapdogs of the White House are starting to turn into watchdogs because of the unprecedented media control.

CBS White House reporter Chip Reid asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs why the guest list and the questions were so tightly controlled for a public meeting on healthcare. Gibbs danced around the question several times wanting to answer it after the healthcare meeting to see if Reid still thought the questions were pre-selected. Reid said, "The concept of a town hall, I think, is to have a open public forum, and this sounds like a very tightly controlled audience and a list of questions. Veteran White House Correspondent Helen Thomas chimed in, "we have never had that in the White House." Later she said, "It's shocking. It's really shocking."

Both reporters said that the White House was trying to control the media as a way of "controlling the public." AP wrote in its story after the so-called town hall meeting, "Some of Obama's questioners Wednesday were from friendly sources, including a member of the Service Employees International Union and a member of Health Care for America Now, which organized a Capitol Hill rally last week calling for an overhaul." To date, AP, CBS, and Helen Thomas have been rubber stamping every message the White House wished to give to the public. Now, even the most ardent lapdogs of the White House are questioning its motives. Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you."
