Updates: California Fires

Updates: California Fires

1. PRAY: Death Toll Hits 31 As California Infernos Grow to Size of NYC - Times of Israel

Teams with cadaver dogs began a grim search Thursday for more dead in parts of California wine country devastated by wildfires, resorting in some cases to serial numbers stamped on medical implants to identify remains that turned up in the charred ruins.

New deaths confirmed Thursday took the toll to 31, making this the deadliest week of wildfires in California history.

Many of the flames still burned out of control, and the fires grew to more than 300 square miles (777 square kilometers), an area as large as New York City.

Sonoma and Napa counties endured a fourth day of choking smoke while many residents fled to shelters or camped out on beaches to await word on their homes and loved ones.

A forecast for gusty winds and dry air threatened to fan the fires further. (Read more)

2. Devastating California wildfires predicted to cost US economy $85 billion; Containment may take weeks - Accuweather.com

Devastating fires charring California have claimed more lives than any fire in the state's history, and the economic toll is predicted to climb to $85 billion. "These wildfires, especially in Northern California, are particularly devastating," said Dr. Joel N. Myers, founder, president and chairman of AccuWeather.

This past week has yielded the deadliest outbreak of wildfires across Northern California, surpassing the 29 fatalities caused by the 1933 Griffith Park Fire. The wildfire complex alone near Santa Rosa killed at least 22 people.

Cal Fire estimated that 5,700 homes and other structures have been destroyed, and approximately 100,000 people had evacuated. The number of evacuees dropped to nearly 75,000 on Sunday morning. (Read more)

3. Santa Rosa comes to terms with the scale of devastation: 3,000 buildings lost, many dead in fire - LA Times

After the fires had roared through, Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano drove through the wreckage of Santa Rosa's Larkfield-Wikiup neighborhood.

Twisted beams and garage doors crumpled like old newspapers had replaced street after street of tidy homes. The hubcaps from charred cars had melted into rivulets of gleaming aluminum that pooled in the gutters.

"I don't even think I understand what the damage toll is going to be, and I have a better handle on it than most," Giordano told The Times on Friday. "Santa Rosa will be a different planet. There is so much to rebuild. It will absolutely change the community. (Read more)

4. California Church Providing Shelter, Necessities to Those Fleeing Wildfires - Christian Headlines.com

In the midst of this destruction, however, a California church is offering a place of safety. According to The Christian Post, members of the Influence Church in Anaheim Hills have not only opened the church to those in need, but have opened their own homes.

"During the evacuation, church members and staff helped neighbors move stuff out of their houses. We prayed for those that were in distress during that time. It was like chaos around here," Pastor Phil Hotsenpiller told The Christian Post.

The church is especially close to the "Canyon Fire 2" which began on Monday. This particular fire is reportedly about 60 percent contained.

Pastor Hotsenpiller continued: "We gave out water. We offered housing. We probably had 50 of our members offer homes for people to stay in. If they didn't want to do that, we offered to pay for their hotel. Although we didn't have anyone take us up on the hotel, on the rooms they did." (Read more)

5. LATEST NEWS: 40 dead in California wildfires, dozens still missing as firefighters make significant progress - Los Angeles Times

Aided by light winds and cooler temperatures, firefighters made significant progress overnight and early Sunday morning on two of the biggest wildfires raging across Northern California, but officials cautioned that they still face major challenges.

The winds that bedeviled firefighters Saturday are expected to remain mostly calm Sunday, allowing them to go back on the offense after a day of new evacuations. Humidity levels are also forecast to increase up above 20%, with temperatures expected to hit a high of 85 in Santa Rosa.

Officials said they are making good progress on the massive Tubbs and Atlas fires, which are both more than 50% contained. Firefighters will concentrate their forces on the Nuns fire, which is 30% contained. There is some concern, however, that the Tubbs and Nuns fires could merge. (Read more)

Pray for California:

- Lord, we ask Your mercy over the land in California. We know that they have sinned against You in mighty ways, just as the rest of our nation has done. We plead for Your mercy and kindness to come into this situation, giving places for the Holy Spirit to move among the people.

- "In wrath, remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)

Focus on Israel

1. Top Israeli minister to demand PM cut all ties to PA after Hamas unity deal - Times of Israel

A top Israeli minister will on Sunday demand that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu several all ties between Israel and the Palestinian Authority following a reconciliation deal signed in Cairo on Thursday between the Fatah party, which dominates the PA, and the Gaza-based Hamas terror group.

"We can't allow ourselves to be weakened" by continuing to interact with the PA in the wake of Thursday's Palestinian unity deal, Education Minister Naftali Bennett told Israel's Channel 10 News. "We won't be able to ask the international community to impose sanctions on Hamas if we essentially, de facto, recognize Hamas. Negotiating with the PA amounts to accepting Hamas as a legitimate entity."

2. French Jewish candidate defeats Qatari to win UNESCO leadership - Times of Israel

France's former culture minister Audrey Azoulay was elected to head UNESCO after a cliffhanger vote on Friday evening.

By a margin of 30-28 votes, Azoulay, the first Jewish UNESCO head, narrowly defeated Qatari candidate Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, who had been the frontrunner throughout the week's voting.

3. Netanyahu congratulates Trump for not recertifying Iran deal - Israel National News

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu congratulated President Donald Trump after Trump announced on Friday that he will not certify Iran's compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal.

"I congratulate President Trump for his courageous decision today. He boldly confronted Iran's terrorist regime," said Netanyahu in a video statement.

Netanyahu, who was a prominent opponent of the deal when it was signed in 2015, reiterated that the deal paves the way for Iran to get a nuclear weapon. "If the Iran deal is left unchanged, one thing is absolutely certain- in a few years' time, the world's foremost terrorist regime will have an arsenal of nuclear weapons and that's a tremendous danger for our collective future," he said.

"President Trump has just created an opportunity to fix this bad deal. To roll back Iran's aggression and to confront its criminal support of terrorism. That's why Israel embraces this opportunity. And that's why every responsible government, and any person concerned with the peace and security of the world, should do so as well," he added.

4. ACLU lawsuit challenges Kansas law targeting Israel boycotters - Jerusalem Post

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit challenging a Kansas law banning state business with companies that support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, or BDS, against Israel.

The ACLU said Wednesday it was representing a public school math teacher who was denied a state contract because she participates in the anti-Israel boycott.

The law, which took effect on July 1, requires that any person or company that contracts with the state submit a written certification that they are "not currently engaged in a boycott of Israel." The ACLU said that requiring teacher Esther Koontz to certify that she won't boycott Israel violates her First Amendment rights.

"The First Amendment prohibits the government from using its financial leverage to impose an ideological litmus test," ACLU attorney Brian Hauss said in a statement. "This law is an unconstitutional attempt by the government to silence one side of a public debate by coercing people not to express their beliefs, including through participation in a political boycott."

5. For the first time: Second Hakafot at the Western Wall - Israel National News

For the first time ever, 'Second Hakafot' took place at the Western Wall Thursday night.

Israeli Jews celebrated the holiday of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah (Joy of the Torah) on Wednesday night and Thursday, while Jews in the Diaspora celebrate them on two separate days. During Simchat Torah, Jews dance with Torah scrolls in dances that are referred to as 'Hakafot.'

Many of the Jews from the Diaspora who visit Israel for the holiday thus celebrate Simchat Torah on Thursday night and Friday this year. And many Israelis, although it is not a holiday for them anymore, also dance with the Torah once again at what they call the 'Second Hakafot," increasingly popular because the bands and live music forbidden on the holiday are very much in evidence. . . .

The Daily Brief

1. Emboldened Bannon enlists evangelicals to take on McConnell, entire GOP establishment - Fox News

Steve Bannon, President Trump's former chief strategist, on Saturday rallied evangelicals and other base supporters, urging them to defeat the Republican establishment as they recently did in Alabama and boldly predicting a commanding Trump re-election victory.

"They fear you because they understand you've had a belly full of it, and you're taking your country back," Bannon told social conservatives at the annual Value Voters Summit in Washington, D.C. "They understand you're the transmission of the best values of the Judeo-Christian West."

Bannon was able to channel his and his followers' long-held distain for the Washington establishment into enough votes to help Trump in his 2016 White House victory.

His return to Breitbart News, after leaving the White House last month, and his all-out effort to help conservative firebrand Judge Roy Moore last month defeat establishment candidate Sen. Luther Strange in Alabama's recent special GOP Senate election has empowered him to take on others -- including Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell and retiring Tennessee GOP Sen. Bob Corker. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that You have heard our cries of repentance, and are now answering from heaven. We continue to rejoice that Your values were loudly proclaimed, over and over again, at last weekend's Values Voters Summit by many speakers at the podium. We agree that it is now a new day in our nation - a day filled with renewed hope that, working together, we CAN, indeed, "make America great again." Father God, as we all return home, let us not lose the amazing momentum towards the establishment of righteous government that was birthed at the Summit. Thank You, Lord, amen.

- "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)

2. 19 GOP Congressmen Call For Mueller Hearings - Daily Caller

Nineteen Republican congressmen signed on to a letter sent out Friday requesting congressional hearings to keep special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of lawyers accountable. "This team has sweeping authority and an open-ended mission, yet they are allowed to operate largely in secret, selected by and ultimately accountable to only one person: Mr. Mueller himself," the letter sent to House Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte and Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley states. Texas Republican Rep. Brian Babin started asking his colleagues to sign the letter in August. The congressmen who signed on include: Iowa Rep. Steve King, Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, California Rep. Duncan Hunter, and Virginia Rep. Dave Brat.

"With numerous reports emerging almost every day on possible conflicts of interest and allegations of political bias, it would be in the interest of both the public and the Special Counsel team to speak to the American people through their elected representatives in Congress," the letter continues on to say. "Accordingly, we respectfully request that one of broth of the Judiciary Committees immediately convene a public and open hearing or series of hearings to bring Mr. Mueller and his team out of the shadows and into the public square." (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for this action, taken by 19 members of the U.S. Congress. Lord God, we cry out for TRUTH and RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT to rule in our land. Let it be so, O Lord we pray, amen.

- "But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream." (Amos 5:24)

3. Meadows Fires Up Values Voter Summit: Tells People to 'Eject' Members of Congress Who Won't Push 'America First' - Breitbart

In a Friday address to hundreds of enthusiastic Values Voter Summit participants, Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows equated some members of Congress to "dud" shotgun shells, declaring that those who don't get behind President Donald Trump's "America First" agenda should be sent home. "We need to anticipate the battle that is still raging on the streets of Washington, D.C. in this place that they call the swamp," said the congressman. The crowd cheered as Chairman Meadows said that draining the swamp "includes every single member of the House and Senate. If they're not willing to do what they promised on their campaign trail, it's time to send them home."

He went on to call for the removal of the filibuster rule in the U.S. Senate, where Republicans hold a mere two-seat majority. "We have eight Democrats in the Senate that often believe that they will believe that they're going to run things, but I tell you that it is time that we get rid of the 60-vote cloture rule in the Senate and start ruling like a majority," Meadows said. The crowd again whistled and cheered in response. "I'm for no more excuses. It is time to get rid of the excuses," said Meadows. (Read more)

- O righteous Father, we ask that You send mighty reinforcements from heaven to surround Mark Meadows that will plow under all the forces of darkness fighting against him and his position. Go before him, Lord, and cast down every antiChrist spirit, all warring spirits and pull down the 60-vote cloture rule in the Senate that it start ruling like a majority. Mighty God, we shout the victory of the Winner over all the enemy forces. Because we pray in the Name of Jesus and for His glory over this matter.

- "Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder. For He has broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder." (Psalm 107:13-16)

4. Alabama's Roy Moore to Christian summit: We need to make America good again - Fox News

Roy Moore, the Republican nominee for the Senate in Alabama, struck a dark tone in an address Friday to Christian conservatives in Washington, lamenting the lack of morality in politics while expressing frustration with how little Republicans have accomplished since last year's election. In a play on President Trump's campaign slogan, Moore said, "We need to make America good again."

Moore, known in Alabama as the "Ten Commandments Judge," is a Christian conservative who is famous for having been removed twice from his position as chief justice on Alabama's Supreme Court. "Our politicians today - and I've been politickin' out there - they never talk about morality," Moore said. "They never talk about healing the heart by bringing back God. Because we've lost that connection." "A lot of people think what I stand for is religious," he said. "They ask me, 'Well what's all this talk about God? Don't you know God's not acceptable in this system, political arena?' We'll I'm gonna tell you. When you forget God, you can forget politics." Moore is set to face Democratic nominee Doug Jones in December for the seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions when he left to join the Trump administration. (Read more)

- What an honor to be called the "Ten Commandments Judge." Roy Moore has stood with the teachings of Your word. His sword has been drawn and the battle is Yours, Jesus. He has set the example for all Christians to stand for Your ways and not bow to ways of the world.

- "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." (John 14:21)

5. Trump has altered over 800 Obama-era regulations, Wilbur Ross says - Washington Times

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said Friday that President Trump is "systematically" removing hundreds of regulations put in place by the Obama administration. "The president has already knocked out some 860 rules and regulations from the Obama administration, and every day we're finding more and more to do.

Remember, Obama put in something like 7,000 new rules and regulations just in the last two years he was in office," Mr. Ross said on Fox Business. When asked what types of regulations Mr. Trump was removing - whether oil and gas, environmental or banking - the secretary responded, "All of the above. You would think the American public was a wild and woolly place two years earlier to require 7,000 new rules. But the president is systematically removing them, changing them, getting rid of them. And I think we'll beat his formula of two reductions for one increase," he said. Mr. Ross said the upturn in the economy is due to the loosening of these regulations, and companies have said they feel the relief of less regulation and enforcement. He did say infrastructure is also a top priority for businesses and Mr. Trump, but declined to say whether it would be tied into the upcoming tax bill. (Read more)

- Praise You, Father, that appropriate steps are being taken to restore our country back to reasonable rules and regulations so that industry and private life may proceed without such controlling hindrances. We thank You that this spirit of control is being eliminated.

- "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." (Proverbs 29:2)

6. Trump Cracks Down On Sexual Harassment At The National Park Service - Daily Caller

President Trump is getting a grass-roots boost for his tax reform plan in the Democratic stronghold of Philadelphia. Linwood Holland, a community organizer and chairman of the Philadelphia Black Republican Ward Leaders Caucus, is spreading the word to minority groups that the Trump tax plan is good for the working class. "I've already been to the Asian community and spoke to them, and I've explained it to groups in my area," said Mr. Holland, 57, who attended the president's speech on tax reform Wednesday at the Harrisburg Air National Guard Base.

"On a grass-roots level we are doing a good job putting the message out already," he said. "Hopefully by people seeing the speech and understanding that it will help them, it makes it that much easier for us to promote it."

Mr. Holland, a father of four with an annual household income of about $65,000, echoed the president's pitch. He has been telling Philadelphia residents - especially those that he says live paycheck to paycheck - that middle-class tax cuts leave more money in workers' pockets and business tax cuts mean more jobs and higher wages. His efforts advance a White House strategy to put pressure on Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania to cross the aisle to support the plan. He's one of several Senate Democrats up for re-election in states that Mr. Trump won in November. (Read more)

- O righteous Father, by Your great power and might send myriads of angels into every National Park Service in America who will bind the powers of darkness and cast them down, to eradicate all sexual perversion and harassment. Thank You God for standing against this great evil. We pray in the Name of Jesus and for Your glory.

- "That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; neither give place to the devil." (Ephesians 4:22,23,27)

7. The DOJ Has Nearly Doubled Its Prosecutions For Child Sex Crimes - Daily Caller

Federal investigators nearly doubled the number of investigated sex crimes involving children between 2004 and 2013, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced Thursday.

Child sex crime cases include possession or production of child pornography and child sex trafficking, the BJS reported. Federal investigators took up 1,405 of these cases in 2004, compared to 2,776 cases in 2013. More than 70 percent of the prosecutions each year were for possessing child pornography, followed by those suspected of sex trafficking at 18 percent and those who produced child pornography at 10 percent.

The Department of Justice prosecuted a total of 36,080 child sexual exploitation cases between 2004 and 2013. Nearly 100 percent of the offenders were male; 97 percent were U.S. citizens; 82 percent were white; 79 percent had no prior felony convictions; and 70 percent were unmarried.

Those convicted of child sex crimes received prison sentences more reliably than any other major federal crime, with 98 percent of convicts going to prison. Prison sentences for these convicts also got more severe over the years, with the average prison sentence nearly doubling from 70 months to 139 months. (Read more)

- Praise You, Lord, for leading these Federal officers in their investigations of sex crimes and giving them the enough evidence to lead to prosecutions, convictions and prison time. Protect the children from evilness and bless them. In Your Holy name we pray, amen.

- "And He took them in His arms, laid hands on them, and blessed them." (Mark 10:16)

8. Trump tax plan helps minorities, says black GOP organizer - Washington Times

He's one of several Senate Democrats up for re-election in states that Mr. Trump won in November. (Read more)

- Father in heaven, we thank You for sending Mr. Holland out to the communities encouraging support for President Trump's tax plan for the working class. Move by Your power over America and draw out support that will be the rule on tax reform. In the Name of Jesus we pray.

- "The Lord God has given him the tongue of the learned, that he should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: He wakens morning by morning, He wakens my ear to hear as the learned. The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellous, neither turned away back." (Isaiah 50:4-5)

9. Pentagon Drops Southern Poverty Law Center's Anti-Christian 'Hate' Materials - CBN News

Pentagon sources tell CBN News the Department of Defense has officially severed all ties to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). The DOD's Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity, which teaches about racial, gender and religious equality and "pluralism," had been using SPLC material. In 2014, the Pentagon said it would remove information on hate groups provided by the SPLC but continued to rely on SPLC data. It will no longer do so. You may recall, the DOD used the discredited SPLC's data, which led it to compare Catholic and Protestant Christians to al Qaeda, as examples of religious extremism. Other agencies like the FBI have already stopped using SPLC materials.

The SPLC routinely attacks conservative Christian groups, labeling the staunchly American values-based Alliance Defending Freedom and Liberty Counsel, and the family-promoting Family Research Council as "hate" groups because of their religious beliefs. For many months, family organizations, conservative coalitions and other groups have been calling out the Southern Poverty Law Center for its inaccurate information. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You for this great report that honors truth and eliminates those with agendas that come against You. We thank You that in this time of exposure of evil things in many areas that the Spirit of Truth is revealing falsehoods that have operated in our Pentagon.

- "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." (John 16:13)

10. Mozilla gave $100,000 to secure email platform harnessed by Antifa groups - Fox News

Mozilla has awarded $100,000 to RiseUp, a secure communication platform widely used by anti-fascist groups. The open source group, creator of the popular Firefox browser, said that the award "will advance a free and healthy Internet." In a blog post earlier this month, Mozilla described RiseUp as "a coordination platform used by activists across the political spectrum, to improve the security of their email service."

RiseUp is a tech collective devoted to the creation of a free society based on principles such as democracy, equality, diversity, ecology and security, according to its website. "Riseup provides online communication tools for people and groups working on liberatory social change," its website says.

"We are a project to create democratic alternatives and practice self-determination by controlling our own secure means of communication." The RiseUp email platform is used by a host of anti-fascist groups, both in the U.S. and overseas. (Read more)

- Lord God, because these groups do not walk in truth, but are pursuing and advancing a lie, we ask that this plan to secure their communication network fail. We ask this in Your name, amen.

- "O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; For the righteous God tries the hearts and minds." (Psalm 7:9)

11. Trump's 'calm before the storm' is a message to North Korea and Iran - Jerusalem Post

Pyongyang and Teran are taking measure of President Trump to see how far they can push him and how much they can get away with. Reporters continue scratching their heads about what President Trump meant when he spoke of the "calm before the storm" recently as he was hosting a dinner for military commanders and their spouses. It seems clear to me that he was sending a powerful message to North Korea and Iran: change your behavior now, or prepare to face new but unspecified painful consequences.

North Korea and Iran are taking measure of President Trump to see how far they can push him and how much they can get away with. The North Koreans continue testing nuclear weapons and long-range missiles and threaten to launch a nuclear attack on America and our allies that could kill millions. Iran is likely engaging in activities that could contribute to the design and development of its own nuclear explosive device. So whether we like it or not, a storm is coming. Whether that storm will be diplomatic, economic or military depends on the leaders of North Korea and Iran. If they choose to negotiate constraints on their increasingly dangerous activities, they can avoid the other more painful options. (Read more)

- O righteous Father, create in President Trump the instinct to see through the distinct difference in light and darkness, lies and truth, evil intents of the heart as opposed to outright deception in every North Korean and their allies, so as to get the jump-start before the storm even gets off the ground. Stay close to President Trump so he will hear even a whisper from the mouth of God. We trust and pray in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ.

- "Hearken unto Me, My people; and give ear unto Me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from Me, and I will make My judgment to rest for a light of the people." (Isaiah 51:4)

12. Jewish, Christian Leaders Unite to Praise US Senate's Sanctions on Hezbollah - Breaking Israel News

In the context of a golden age for Jewish-Christian relations and strong Christian support for Israel, Zionist Jews and Christians joined forces to praise the passing of a bill in the U.S. Senate that imposes sanctions on the terrorist group Hezbollah and its affiliates.

This month, the "Hizballah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act of 2017," sponsored by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), passed in the U.S. Senate with an amendment by unanimous consent. Together, Christian and Jewish leaders reaffirmed the bipartisan commitment, surpassing religious difference, to confront Israel's enemies.

Christians United for Israel (CUFI) founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee said in a statement supporting the Act, "Hezbollah is a terrorist army. They've killed hundreds of Americans and Israelis and have allied themselves with the butchers in Damascus and the tyrants in Tehran. We must do everything we can to stop this evil organization and this legislation is a good step in the right direction." (Read more)

- Father, we join our voices with others who are now praising You for the passage of this bill in the Senate. Thank You, Jesus/Yeshua!

- "Happy is the man who has not followed the counsel of the wicked, or taken the path of sinners, or joined the company of the insolent." (Psalms 1:1)

13. North Korea's real-life 'doomsday scenario' for U.S. 9-11 minutes - WND

The threat of a North Korean nuclear attack on the U.S. is almost unimaginably worse than turning a city like Chicago or Denver into ashes, they testified. If just one of the nuclear weapons North Korea is now known to possess could be directed toward the heartland of the U.S. and detonated in the upper atmosphere, it could fry the electrical grid with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), paralyze communications and transportation nationwide, instantly plunge the country back into a 19th century-style existence and cause 90 percent of Americans to starve to death in one year.

That apocalyptic scenario was delivered Thursday by William Graham, chairman of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the U.S. from an EMP Attack, and Peter Pry, chief of staff to the commission, to the homeland security Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency. (Read more)

- Lord God, in the face of this life-threatening danger, we cry out to You in repentance, for only You can intervene to stop a threat of this nature. Have mercy, O Lord, we pray, amen and amen.

- "In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears." (Psalm 18:6)

End time implications of a N Korea EMP attack

A group of nuclear experts Thursday testified before the House Committee on Homeland Security that a North Korean nuclear electromagnetic pulse detonation on the United States could kill 90% of our population within a year of the attack. Drs. William Graham and Peter Pry of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack told congressmen that in 2004 Russia had "accidentally" given N Korea plans for a "Super-EMP" weapon. They said that on September 20 N Korea had detonated an H-Bomb it describes as capable of "super-powerful EMP" attack and released a technical report accurately describing what Russia and China call a "Super-EMP" weapon.

The experts said that N Korea's nuclear capabilities were drastically underestimated: "After massive intelligence failures grossly underestimating North Korea's long-range missile capabilities, number of nuclear weapons, warhead miniaturization, and proximity to an H-Bomb, the biggest N Korean threat to the U.S. remains unacknowledged-nuclear EMP attack. In short, the previous Administration grievously and negligently ignored the nuclear build up in N Korea aided and abetted by Russian and Chinese technicians and advisors. It was known that these countries were working together on missile and nuclear technology as early as 2001. In May 2011, the UN released a report that China was working with Iran and N Korea on nuclear weaponry, but the previous Administration did little or nothing to end the collaboration.
After decades of kicking the can down the road, America now faces a perilous nuclear threat that must be addressed by the current Administration. In June 2005, N Korea agreed to what is called the "six party talks" to discuss ways to voluntarily disarm their nuclear weapons program. It was an effort to diplomatically prevent North Korea arming terrorists against Israel and the United States. Earlier in 2005, there were two N Korean train shipments that exploded-one in N Korea and another in Syria. Both were reportedly carrying missiles, missile technology and weapons technology. Today, the threat is expanded to N Korea's ability to attack America either by sea or by using nuclear-armed satellites, the experts said.
While N Korea, the US, Russia or China are not specifically mentioned in the Bible as players in the end times, these countries could impact prophecy. America stands in the breech for Israel. Russia, China and N Korea have a long history of arming Islamic regimes hostile to Israel. Without the US, Israel's enemies could easily attack Israel. The end time prophecies outlined by Christ in Matthew 24, however, would still have to play out-wars and rumors of wars, antichrist, the abomination of desolation, great tribulation, deception, and as Christ said in Matthew 24:31 about his appearance: "And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." Meantime, let us pray for our nation, and the peace of Jerusalem.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

A Hot Tip for You!

A Hot Tip for You!

Does it seem that you are not receiving our Briefs these days?

Well, guess what?

Neither am I!

So . . . I have had to go to my SPAM folder on my emails and -- there it is!

My . . . my . . . my!

After that, I move the Brief into my Inbox, and take it from there.
All I can say is . . . we must be doing something RIGHT for "the powers that be"
to call us spam!

Could it be that this is happening because we are NOT a source of "fake news?"
Have a nice day, everyone!

Classic Hymns

JESUS SHALL REIGN

"He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth." (Psalm 72:8)

Lyrics

Jesus shall reign where'er the sun Does his successive journeys run; His kingdom stretch from shore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

Behold the islands with their kings, And Europe her best tribute brings; From north to south the princes meet, To pay their homage at His feet.

There Persia, glorious to behold, There India shines in eastern gold; And barb'rous nations at His word Submit, and bow, and own their Lord.

To Him shall endless prayer be made, And praises throng to crown His head; His Name like sweet perfume shall rise With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on His Name.

Blessings abound wherever He reigns; The prisoner leaps to lose his chains; The weary find eternal rest, And all the sons of want are blessed.

Where He displays His healing power, Death and the curse are known no more: In Him the tribes of Adam boast More blessings than their father lost.

Let every creature rise and bring Peculiar honors to our King; Angels descend with songs again, And earth repeat the loud amen!

Signs and Wonders

THE SUN LOOKS LIKE A BILLIARD BALL

The sun has now been without spots for 7 consecutive days. Our star looks like an enormous yellow billiard ball.

The last time sunspots vanished for a whole week was in Dec. 2010--a time when the sun was bouncing back from a long Solar Minimum. In this case, the 7 week interregnum is a sign that a new Solar Minimum is coming.

The sunspot cycle is like a pendulum, swinging back and forth every 11-years or so between times of high and low sunspot number. The next low is expected in 2019-2020. Between now and then sunspots will become increasingly rare with stretches of days, then weeks, then months of "billiard-ball suns."

Without sunspots, there will be fewer solar flares and CMEs. However, that doesn't mean space weather will stop. On the contrary, new forms of space weather will rise to the fore, including high doses of cosmic rays, more "space lightning" (sprites), altered states of ham radio propagation, and geomagnetic storms triggered by solar wind streams and co-rotating interaction regions instead of CMEs. Stay tuned for the next phase of the solar cycle. (Spaceweather.com)

The Good News Corner

How This Lesbian at Yale Found Jesus
after Reading C.S. Lewis

Her parents met at a gay nightclub in San Francisco. Mom was looking for a safe place to dance and dad happened to be the security guard at the club.

"He abandoned my mother and me after abusing both of us physically," Rachel Gilson recalls, in a first-person account in Christianity Today (CT). "I didn't even know he existed until I was 10, by which time my mother had remarried.

She grew up in a lax household, where she was allowed to watch horror movies as a child. "When it came to sex, nothing was hidden. There were jokes and stories and, when I was 10, I helped my mother clip images from an adult magazine for a bachelorette party," she recalls.

At 14, she met her first boyfriend, but only a year later, became attracted to another girl in her AP European history class. "She was a senior, beautiful and popular. I was struck by her beauty. The attraction felt like what other girls described feeling for a boy."

She wondered if it was okay to feel this way about a girl. She had a vague understanding that it was wrong, but no Christian foundation had been established in her life.

The two kissed for the first time on Rachel's 16th birthday and developed a romantic relationship.

One day Rachel was in the room of a lapsed Catholic friend when she noticed the book Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. She knew nothing about the author or the book, but the title intrigued her-and she quietly slipped the book into her bag.

The more she read, Lewis' persuasive arguments began to grip her heart. Suddenly it dawned on her: There was a God! Her heart and her head could no longer deny it.

At the same time a spirit of repentance fell on her and she became aware of her own sinfulness. "I had lied and cheated; I was cruel-I had even stolen that book from a sweet, unsuspecting friend! How would I face a pure and holy God?"

"But when I considered what Jesus had done-how He endured separation from God so that I could be joined-I knew I would be a fool to reject His offer. As my heart swelled with thankfulness, I clenched my eyes and prayed, surrendering myself to Jesus."

About CHPP

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
Friends may participate by receiving our daily prayer alerts. You may contact us at chpp1994@gmail.com for more information. CHPP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ministry. Thank you and God bless you!
