The Daily Brief - Thursday, April 2, 2009

". . . I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth." (Job 19:25)

The Daily Brief

1. Senator Coburn Introduces "Conscience Protection" Amendment - Susan B. Anthony List
Vote Scheduled for TODAY on the Senate Floor

Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) has proposed an amendment in the Senate that would protect the right of conscience for health care workers! The Senate is scheduled to vote on this amendment THIS afternoon. This amendment is crucial in the fight to protect doctors and nurses around the country from being discriminated against for refusing to participate in abortions and other medical procedures that violate their conscience.

• Lord we cry out for the freedom of health care workers to have conscientious objections to medical procedures and practices that violate their belief system.

"If the Son shall set you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36)

2. Obama Picks Pro-Sharia Law Advocate? - TVC

Harold Koh, the former dean of the Yale Law School has been picked by President Barack Hussein Obama to be the legal adviser to the Department of State. Koh will represent America at the United Nations and the International Court of Justice.

Koh is an outrageous transnationalist lawyer who believes that American law should be interpreted according to international "norms" instead of our U.S. Constitution.

• Father, we ask that Mr. Koh be removed from this position, and that every advice he gives that is contrary to the Constitution would be null and void. We ask that all hidden secrets be revealed and that no power whatsoever be granted to this man until he comes to know You personally and is changed.

"Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set." (Proverbs 22:28)

3. G-20 Leaders to Give $1Trillion to IMF, World Bank - Fox News

Global leaders pledged an additional $1 trillion to restore credit, growth and jobs in the world economy on Thursday, exceeding expectations in their plan to deal with the financial crisis.

The Group of 20 nations also agreed to renounce protectionism and pledged $250 billion in trade finance over the next two years -- a key measure to help struggling developing countries, whom they promised to give a greater say in world economic affairs.

The G-20 also outlined a raft of policies to rebuild trust in the financial system, including a crackdown on tax havens and hedge funds and new rules on linking executive pay to performance.

• Pray that the Lord would guard US sovereignty and His people in all the actions of the G20. While it appears that this is a much better scenario that could have occurred, the fact that they reached any consensus whatever is highly unusual for this group of nations. Somehow they have started working together when normally they dissolve into petty bickering - pray for God's perfect will and keep watching!

"He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations. Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves." (Psalm 66:7)

4. U.S., Russia Call for Nuke Cuts in Sweeping Agenda - AP

The United States and Russia set a newly ambitious course for global cooperation Wednesday as presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev ordered negotiators into immediate action on a treaty to further reduce nuclear weapons.

Going into their first face-to-face meeting in London, Medvedev had voiced openness to Obama's call for resetting the deeply troubled U.S.-Russian relationship, but few had expected the kind of sweeping statements that emerged from weeks of intense preparatory talks.

• Lord, while we welcome measures that will make the world a safer place, we ask for Your protection against any actions that might leave us vulnerable at a dangerous point in history. We look forward to the day when the nations will bow their knee to You, and weapons of war will no longer be needed.

"He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people. . .Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4)

5. A) N. Korea 'Will Mercilessly Shoot Down' U.S. Spy Planes - Fox News

North Korea accused the United States of spying on the site of an impending rocket launch and threatened Wednesday to shoot down any U.S. planes that intrude into its airspace.

B) China Indicates It Won't Block Action Against North Korea in U.N. Security Council - Fox News

The U.S. could seek action in the U.N. Security Council -- a move that China may not block -- if North Korea launches a rocket, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

• Father, we bind the loud posturing of the DNK, and declare their threats null and void by the power of the Blood of Jesus. We thank You that China has decided to stay out of the fight and not stop sanctions. As the missile launch draws near, we once again ask that it fail miserably, and the government of North Korea look foolish in its attempts to look tough.

"The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low. The Lord alone will be exalted in that day." (Isaiah 2: 17)

6. Flooded Southeast braces for more rain, possible tornadoes - USA Today

Water-logged Gulf Coast communities kept a wary eye on rising rivers and flooded roads Wednesday, as forecasts called for another round of rain.

• Father, we ask for Your mercy over the regions of the US that are suffering under floods. We ask that Your Holy Spirit flood these areas to bring hope and heart changes.

"For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring." (Isaiah 44:3)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident. One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple." (Psalms 27)

1. Blair: Mideast peace process in jeopardy - Jerusalem Post

Middle East envoy Tony Blair said Wednesday the peace process was in jeopardy and Israel must fully support the goal of living in peace next to an independent Palestinian state.

2. Petraeus: Netanyahu might strike Iran - Jerusalem Post

3. Authorities uncover arms in Jordan shipment - Ynet News

Customs officials at the Arava border crossing uncovered arms hidden in a truck believed to be en route to the Palestinian Authority.

The First 100 Days

DAY 73

"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases." (Proverbs 21:1)

1. The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S.

While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico.

2. Obama Strains to Drive Message, as Friction Builds at G20

While the Obamas' meeting with Queen Elizabeth II made headlines around the world, President Obama appears to be struggling to hold the gavel and drive the policy debate.

3. Obama's Health Chief Pick to Face Tough Questioning From Senate

Senators are expected Thursday to ask Kathleen Sebelius, President Barack Obama's choice for health secretary, more questions about her policies and politics than about the $7,000 worth of mistakes she made on her taxes.

4. Democratic Congressman Tempers Party Expectations for 2010

Liberal groups targeting moderate congressional Democrats should "beware of forming a circular firing squad" that could hurt the party in 2010 elections, says the head of Democrats' House campaign efforts.

5. Thursday Could Be Last Day for Blagojevich Grand Jury to Meet

U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald has until Tuesday to get an indictment against the former governor accused of plotting to trade or sell President Obama's former U.S. Senate seat.

6. New Jobless Claims Jump Unexpectedly to 669,000

The number of people filing new jobless claims jumped unexpectedly last week, while those continuing to receive benefits hit a 10th straight record-high, the Labor Department said Thursday.

7. U.S. to Ask NATO Allies for More Civilian Help in Afghanistan

President Obama will use a weekend summit to appeal to leaders of governments sending aid to help the U.S. campaign to defeat the Taliban.

G20 Summit Convenes Today

G20: Tickle the Ear Doctrines or Gospel of Truth-- You Decide

The G-20 nations soon will meet in London with various proposals to fix the world economy. You can count on more globalization, more one world order drivel. The headlines will be talking about a worldwide redistribution of wealth-mainly from America-to fight the phantom of global warming; they will mention replacing the dollar as the standard reserve currency because it is to blame for the weakening world economy; they will point out that the nations believe more, not less government is needed to fix the worldwide recession; and more government intervention means more taxes and more nationalization of private enterprise. This crisis these leaders created will be used to advance the one world order.

Christians, in particular, will be distressed by the news coming from this summit. The global fixes that will be proposed by these so-called smartest men and women in the world will deny the existence of God, will call on man's own devices to remedy the problems their greed and elitist politics created, and their agenda will sprint away from the moral cultural issues. These countries will continue to promote homosexuality and abortion as well as separation of church and state. Spawning from this summit, whether it is reported or not, will be a new assault on individual liberty, on traditional family values, and most ardently and viciously, a stepped up attack on anyone who would oppose their genius.

The gathering of all these secular humanist-driven leaders could very well result in the unleashing of prejudice against Jews and Christians that hasn't been seen since the Crucifixion of Christ and the Roman persecution of Jews in the latter first century. IF you stand for God's brand of liberty, you will be faced with challenges that you have not seen in your generation. The body of Christ here on earth will soon be forced by events to decide what it is going to be. Those who stand on the doctrines of men will not be able to withstand the onslaught of what is about to occur. Kumbya Christianity, the emergent church, seeker sensitive, name it-claim it, personal prophetic indulgence all will be sorely put to the test.

God's kingdom people must understand that it is the Word of God, the gospel of truth, that must be spread. The "tickle the ear" doctrines of men must be laid aside in order to spread the gospel. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." He commanded us in Mark 16:15, "Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." The disciples were under harsh Roman persecution, yet the church in Acts arose and through boldness of preaching the gospel-not doctrines of men-thousands came to Christ and the world was changed. Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." Do you believe it?

Obama Picks Pro-Shariah Law Advocate

Harold Koh, the former dean of the Yale Law School has been picked by President Barack Hussein Obama to be the legal adviser to the Department of State. Koh will represent America at the United Nations and the International Court of Justice.

Koh is an outrageous transnationalist lawyer who believes that American law should be interpreted according to international "norms" instead of our U.S. Constitution.

In 2007, at a speech before the Yale Club in Greenwich, he claimed that he didn't see why Shariah law couldn't be applied to govern cases in the United States. Shariah law is a ruthless Islamic legal system that calls for stoning of women who are victims of rape; for cutting off heads and hands of adulterers; and death for anyone who leaves Islam for another religion.

TAKE ACTION:

Contact your two U.S. Senators and ask that they oppose the confirmation of Harold Koh to the Department of State or any other post in the government.

News from North Dakota

NORTH DAKOTA SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE VOTES UNANIMOUSLY
TO DENY PERSONHOOD TO PRE-BIRTH HUMANS
BILL STILL GOES ON TO FULL NORTH DAKOTA SENATE,
BUT WITH UNFAVORALE RECOMMENDATION

A Senate committee today gave a unanimous "do not pass" recommendation to a bill that would give personhood status to a human embryo.

The Senate Judiciary Committee did not add any amendments to the bill, which chairman Sen. David Nething, R-Jamestown, called "an unworkable law."

The bill was introduced by Rep. Dan Ruby, R-Minot, and passed the House in February 51-41. The bill says that a "human being includes any organism with the genome of homo sapiens." No time has been set for when the full Senate will act on it.

SECOND BILL GIVES OPPOSITE SIGNAL

The committee also voted 3-2 to recommend a bill that would require a woman seeking an abortion be told that it "will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being."
Sen. Carolyn Nelson, D-Fargo, said she voted against both measures.

"The young ladies going in to get an abortion are already in a traumatic state and to have them have to sign a disclaimer basically that says they're killing a live human being," Nelson said, "I think is just one more stab in the back to these young ladies."
Nething said he supported the bill.

"I thought it was one more warning to the mother that would probably be helpful," Nething said.

• Continue to stand in the gap for those in authority in the State of North Dakota, who are yet in darkness on the sanctity of life. The "mixed results" of both of these bills reflects the state of many, who still compromise the truth. Pray for mercy for the people of the State of North Dakota. Pray!

Final Update: H.R. 1388

H.R. 1388, the "GIVE Act", passed the House of Representatives on Monday night by a vote of 275 yea; 149 nay. This act establishes a commission to study the ramifications of enlisting youth, on a volunteer basis, to serve in federal campuses across the nation, for a proposed period of 90 days each. The word "mandatory" is not included in this bill, which Obama is expected to sign soon.
To find out how your congressman voted on H.R. 1388.

Meanwhile, we are still watching H.R. 1441 - the morphed stepchild of the above - which DOES include the word "mandatory" volunteer service in its language.

H.R. 1441 is still in committee on the House side. LET'S MOVE FAST.

CALL YOUR MEMBER TO TELL THEM TO VOTE NO ON H.R. 1441 IF AND WHEN IT GOES TO THE HOUSE FLOOR FOR A VOTE.

(If this moves as fast at H.R. 1388, that could be REAL SOON!)

GOOD NEWS

CONGRESS GOES INTO A TWO-WEEK RECESS PERIOD BEGINNING MONDAY. LET'S PRAY THAT ACTION ON THIS BILL IS DELAYED UNTIL AFTER THAT; THAT THE PEOPLE RISE UP AND CALL THEIR MEMBER IN THEIR HOME DISTRICTS OVER EASTER TO PROTEST H.R. 1441 AND THAT THIS ENTIRE ISSUE/INITIATIVE WILL THEN BE "DEAD IN THE WATER" WHEN THEY RETURN TO WASHINGTON ON MONDAY, APRIL 20.
CONTINUE TO REMAIN VIGILANT OVER THE ISSUE OF FEDERAL YOUTH CAMPS IN AMERICA. Pray, discern, and act, as the LORD directs.

• "Thy people shall volunteer freely in the day of Thy power." (Psalm 110:3 NAS)

Warning From Israel

President Obama landed in England today for important meetings with G20 leaders. The meetings could be tough - Europe is resisting pressure from the White House to follow our lead and spend hundreds of billions of additional dollars. But as important as the London meeting is, the bigger news may be coming out of Israel today, where Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn in as Prime Minister.

As he was being sworn in, an interview Netanyahu gave a few weeks ago was released by Atlantic Magazine. In it, the Israeli prime minister makes it clear that he believes a nuclear-armed Iran would be a disaster, not only for Israel but also for the United States and the world.

Using blunt language, Netanyahu asserted, "You don't want a messianic apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs. When the wide-eyed believer gets hold of the reins of power and the weapons of mass death, then the entire world should start worrying, and that is what is happening in Iran."

He's right. Is Obama listening? (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; 3/31/09)

Good News Corner

Compassion International Raises $3.1M to Fight World Hunger

Compassion International was joined by nearly 1,000 Christian radio stations across the country last week to raise money for Global Food Crisis Awareness Day.

More than 27,000 listeners gave $3.1 million to help feed starving families worldwide, exceeding the original goal of $1 million.

"The way in which these Christian radio stations and their supporters have answered the call to care for the poor is overwhelming," Wess Stafford, president and CEO of Compassion, said in a new release. "They have demonstrated the true meaning of the word 'compassion.'" (Citizen Link; 3/17/09)
