Praying for the Midterms

Praying for the Midterms

1. San Francisco spends about $6,326 for each non-citizen voter to sign up for local election, report says - Fox News

San Francisco reportedly spent $310,000 on a new registration system aimed at getting non-citizens to cast votes in school board elections.

The program resulted in 49 new voters, which turned out to cost the city $6,326 each, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. The paper called the effort "pretty much a bust the first time out."

Local officials suggest residents who might otherwise consider registering are worried the Trump administration would learn their identities.

The voters are only able to vote in a school board race. John Arntz, the city elections chief, In San Francisco, noncitizens who opt to vote will be listed on a separate roster from citizens and will get a ballot with just the school board contest, city elections chief John Arntz said.

Robin Hvidston, the executive director of We the People Rising, group that calls for tougher immigration enforcement, told The Los Angeles Times that the program could ultimately backfire with those who take a moderate stance on immigration. (Read more)

- Father, as liberal states attempt to allow noncitizens to vote in any election, we pray that You would protect all Americans against the potential for voter fraud. We thank You that this effort in San Francisco appears to have failed.

- "When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; and with dishonor comes reproach." (Proverbs 18:3)

2. Armies of lawyers are mobilizing to keep an eye on chaos at the polls - McClatchy

Fearing massive voter fraud and questionable vote counting, Republicans, Democrats and interest groups are all taking the unusual step of dispatching armies of lawyers in this non-presidential election year to ward off potential trouble at the polls.

"I've never seen anything like it for a midterm," said Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP's Washington bureau. "It does look much more consistent with issues that we address in (presidential) elections. For a midterm election, it's extraordinary. But this is an extraordinary time."

Attorneys and poll watchers will be at voting sites and manning war rooms in nearly every state, looking at almost every aspect of the voting process and prepared act if they see something that they feel could hurt their candidate or cause. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for the elections, that there be no voter fraud, no chaos, no intimidation at any polling place across the United States.

- "Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O Lord, and that a foolish people have blasphemed Your name." (Psalm 74:18)

3. Hillary-Supporting Unions Flip, Fully Endorse Republican - Western Journal

Two unions that were all-in for Hillary Clinton in 2016 have changed their political stripes for the looming mid-term elections, and are supporting Minnesota Republican congressman Jason Lewis as he seeks his second term.

Lewis is facing Democrat Angie Craig, a former health care executive, in Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District, the Washington Free Beacon reported. Lewis defeated Craig in their first matchup. Lewis has garnered the endorsement of the carpenters' union and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49.

"In Jason's time in Congress he has cast repeated votes in support of Davis-Bacon prevailing wage and has led on the issue of changing school curriculum to encourage more people to look at careers in the construction industry," said carpenters' union spokesman Adam Duininck.

"Jason Lewis has made an effort to get to know our union, understand our issues, and has taken politically tough stances in support of good-paying union jobs," Local 49 business manager Jason George said in a statement, according to the Free Beacon.

"We don't always agree on every issue, but we know that when it comes to supporting our jobs, he has stood with us, and that is why we are standing with him." (Read more)

- Lord God, we have repented that we have allowed communist infiltration in our labor unions, as was done in Soviet Russia in 1917. We thank You for hearing our prayer, and delivering these me and women from darkness to light, in Your name, amen.

- "Let no man deceive you by any means . . ." (2 Thessalonians 2:3)

4. Texas Voters Come Forward, Reveal Shocking Machine Malfunction - Western Journal

Texans began early voting on October 22 and already there are reports of problems at the polls.

According to Texas news station ABC13, voters of both parties are complaining about having their ballots mis-marked by voting machines.

What's even more surprising is that this problem isn't new. Secretary of State Rolando Pablos has known about the issue for years and has done nothing to fix the problem. He's calling it operator error.

. . . Voters in Texas are urged to check and recheck their ballots before casting them in light of the problems that have arisen there. That sounds like a pretty good idea - because it would be devastating to lose the Texas senate seat to the Democrats due to technological errors.

Perhaps paper ballots might be a good backup until Texas works the kinks out of its electronic systems. A paper trail might be a good safeguard against technology that isn't foolproof yet. (Read more)

- Lord God almighty, with only one week to go now until we vote in these midterm elections, we offer a desperate prayer for You to "rule and overrule" these errors. Amen.

- "And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?" (Luke 18:7)

5. Vice-President Mike Pence: "Bow the Head and Bend the Knee and in the Next 13 Days, Just Pray for America" - Breaking Christian News

Vice President Mike Pence stopped by Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia Wednesday night to give US Rep. Scott Taylor the last-minute boost he needs to beat Democratic opponent Elaine Luria and keep his seat in the house. "Virginia and America need Scott Taylor back," Pence told an excited crowd.

He reminded the crowd of the importance of praying for our leaders and our country. "The sweetest thing the president and I ever hear is when people grab a hand and say, 'I'm praying for you,'" Pence shared, adding that America especially needs prayer during such a divided time.

"I actually just encourage you, if you bow the head and bend the knee in the next 13 days, just pray for America," he said. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for leaders who remind us to turn to You for all of our needs . . . including the need to see godly men and women rule in our land. Thank You for Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen. Please keep them safe, in Your name, amen.

- " . . . in everything give thanks . . ." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Focus on Israel

1. Following Netanyahu visit, senior Israeli minister to head to Oman - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sunday that Transportation and Intelligence Minister Israel Katz will embark on a visit to Oman next week, days after the premier made his own trip to the Sultanate last week in the first official meeting between the leaders of the countries since 1996.

Katz will attend an international transportation conference in Muscat upon personal invitation by his Omani counterpart and the organizers of the conference, a spokesperson for the minister confirmed. During the visit, Katz will present the regional transportation initiative, which he is advancing jointly with Netanyahu.

2. Emergency gov't panel including Mossad to convene after Pittsburgh attack - Jerusalem Post

The Israeli government is looking into practical steps it can take to assist the North American Jewish community in wake of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, including the possible allocation of state funds for the security of US Jewish institutions.

Diaspora Minister Naftali Bennett and Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog will hold meetings this week in the US with top Jewish leaders in New York where they are expected to explore possible programs and partnerships that the government can partner with to expand security for Jewish communities. Bennett is currently in the US and Herzog is scheduled to travel there later this week.

In addition, there are discussions to convene an inter-agency committee that periodically convenes to discuss the security needs of Jewish communities overseas.

The committee includes representatives from the Jewish Agency, the Diaspora Ministry, the Mossad, the Defense Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.

3. Top Palestinian body calls for revoking recognition of Israel, nixing agreements - Times of Israel

A top Palestinian body on Monday passed a motion urging Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to suspend all agreements with Israel and revoke recognition of the Jewish state until Israel formally recognizes a Palestinian state on the 1967 lines.

"We recognize the right to resist the occupation in all methods that comply with international law," the Palestinian Central Council, a Palestine Liberation Organization decision-making body, said in its decision.

The body, convening in Ramallah, said Palestinians should end "all forms" of security coordination with Israel and nullify several financial agreements that it said were being "ignored" by Jerusalem.

4. Cease Fire on The Horizon- Jerusalem Online

The London-based newspaper Al Hayat has reported that Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a long-term ceasefire arrangement negotiated by Egypt during indirect negotiations. The agreement includes lifting the blockade of the Gaza Strip in exchange for a complete cessation of violence at the border.

According to the newspaper, the Sunni Islamic terrorist group Hamas will put an end not only to the so-called "Great March of Return", characterized by acts of violence on the border fence, but also to the incendiary balloons and kites that for months have been causing numerous fires in the fields and forests of the Israeli communities bordering Gaza.

The latest development is the result of the efforts of Egyptian intelligence officials who have visited the Gaza Strip, Jerusalem and Ramallah on several occasions in recent weeks.

During the negotiations, Egyptian officials met with Hamas leaders in Gaza, namely Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar at least four times.

5. Bennett: The charade has ended - Israel National News

Jewish Home chairman and Education Minister Naftali Bennett responded on Monday to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Central Council's recommendation to cancel recognition of Israel.

"The Palestinians have never been serious about recognizing Israel. They have always been planning to destroy Israel piece by piece and throw the Jews out of our land," said Bennett.

"They want to cooperate with Israel, but they continue to pay the salaries of terrorists who kill Israelis," he continued.

"The charade has ended. They have shown their true colors - the Palestinians are not interested in peace and never have been," Bennett concluded.

The PLO Central Council in Ramallah earlier on Monday decided to cancel recognition of Israel until it recognized a Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with eastern Jerusalem as its capital.

The Council, which is headed by Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas, stated that "this decision was made in light of Israel's continued denial of the signed agreements." It was also decided to revoke the validity of the Oslo Accords.

7. The PLO Announces They No Longer Recognize The Right Of The State Of Israel To Exist As A Nation - NowtheEndBegins

The PLO Central Council decided to suspend its recognition of the state of Israel until it recognizes the state of Palestine at the pre-1967 lines with east Jerusalem as its capital, according to the Palestinian News Agency Wafa.

Palestine is not now a state or a nation, and in the history of the world no such place has ever existed. Modern-day Palestine is the creation of Muslim terrorist Yasser Arafat, and it was created only after Israel was formally regathered on May 14th, 1948.

Its sole reason for existing, as stated in its own founding documents, is to destroy Israel and drive the Jewish people into the sea. Article 22 of the PLO Charter among other things says "Since the liberation of Palestine will destroy the Zionist and imperialist presence and will contribute to the establishment of peace in the Middle East, the Palestinian people look for the support of all the progressive and peaceful forces and urge them all, irrespective of their affiliations and beliefs, to offer the Palestinian people all aid and support in their just struggle for the liberation of their homeland." "Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts." (Zechariah 14:21)

The Daily Brief

1. Trump, first lady to visit Pittsburgh Tuesday following synagogue shooting - Fox News

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced plans for President Trump and first lady Melania Trump to visit Pittsburgh on Tuesday after the weekend synagogue massacre that left 11 people dead, while pushing back on what she called the "outrageous" notion the president deserves blame due to his tone.

"Tomorrow the president and first lady will travel to Pennsylvania to express the support of the American people and grieve with the Pittsburgh community," Sanders said during Monday's press briefing.

Sanders did not specifically detail where Trump will visit or with whom he will meet.

In heated exchanges with reporters, Sanders then pushed back on the argument the president's rhetoric could have influenced the synagogue shooter, as well as the person who sent numerous pipe bombs in the mail to prominent Democratic figures. She called the suggestion "outrageous."

"The president is not responsible for these acts," Sanders said. "Again, the very first action of the president did was condemn these heinous acts. The very first thing the media did was condemn the president and go after and try to place blame not just on the president but everybody that works in this administration." (Read more)

- Father God, we ask that, as President Trump visits the grieving community in Pittsburgh, You would cause this gesture to bring healing to a people who are in pain. We ask, too, that You would silence those who are falsely accusing this President for inciting violence by his words. Let truth prevail, we pray, amen.

- " . . . unrighteousness must shut its mouth." (Job 5:16)

2. Some 5,200 US troops deploying to southern border in response to migrant caravan - Fox News

Roughly 5,200 U.S. troops will be deploying to the southern border in response to the migrant caravan pushing north through Mexico, U.S. officials told Fox News on Monday.

Some of the troops will be deploying as early as Tuesday. The reinforcements headed to the U.S.-Mexico border are support troops - not combat troops - and will include engineers, as well as aviation and medical personnel.

A U.S. official initially put the estimate at 5,000 troops Monday before another official raised the number to 5,200. The U.S. Air Force plans to airlift in 400 additional Border Patrol personnel as well.

The troop deployment, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, had been expected after Defense Secretary Jim Mattis approved the request last week. But the number of troops is far higher than initial estimates. There are three planned staging areas: in South Texas, Arizona and California, for what's now been dubbed Operation Faithful Patriot. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that the caravan will turn back, and that those who follow it will decide not to come. We ask that You station Your Angelic host at our borders.

- "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7)

3. Several immigrants released and dropped off at bus station in downtown El Paso- Fox News

Several immigrants were released from ICE and dropped off at the Greyhound bus station in downtown El Paso on Friday afternoon, according to Ruben Garcia the director of the Annunciation House.

Garcia said ICE announced a change in its policy on how they process arriving refugee families. Garcia said Border Patrol, CBP and ICE will no longer hold families beyond what court orders allow them if there are no churches, or shelters able and willing to receive the families. They would then be released to the street. Garcia said about four buses with the immigrants were dropped off.

Garcia said between 50 to 75 immigrants don't have a bus ticket and many of them are trying to contact family to get them to buy them a ticket. Garcia said they don't have money, food, or a place to stay.

The Annunciation House got permission to house them at the Holy Family School. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You will find a solution for this situation. With thousands of migrants coming to the US already, and not having the resources to deal with this small amount, we pray for Your help.

- "But I will sin of Your power, yes I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of trouble." (Psalm 59:16)

4. Suspicious package addressed to CNN intercepted in Atlanta, network says- FOX News

A suspicious package addressed to CNN was intercepted Monday in Georgia, the network said, the latest discovery coming after a week in which more than a dozen parcels containing pipe bombs were mailed to prominent Democrats and the network's New York City bureau.

CNN said the package was found at an Atlanta post office Monday morning. Last week, two of the packages believed to be mailed by suspect Cesar Sayoc were addressed to CNN. One of the packages, addressed to former CIA director John Brennan, who is not a CNN analyst, made it to the mailroom of the Time Warner Center in New York City on Wednesday. Another package was addressed to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who does analysis for the network. (Read more)

- Lord, this suspicious package may be left over from the last spate of "bombs" sent to Democrats. We pray that Your truth will be revealed in this situation regarding Cesar Sayoc and what was his actual motive.

- i>"Your law is truth." (Psalm 119:142b)

5. GOP, Dem campaign chairs call for unity as Americans tire of political divide following Pittsburgh shooting, mail bombs - Fox News

The chairs of both the Democratic and Republican House campaign arms on Sunday called for unity in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Pittsburgh, and said the recent bout of violence should not be politicized in the final days ahead of November's midterm elections. During an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," Reps. Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M., and Steve Stivers, R-Ohio, said that elected officials need to work together to unify the country following Saturday's mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue and a rash of bomb threats leveled against prominent critics of President Trump.

"We should come together as a country," Luján said. "This should not be a political response, but rather a response at how we can further bring us together." Stivers added that both Democrats and Republicans have in recent years been the subject of political violence, citing the recent bomb threats against Democrats and the 2017 shooting that targeted a group of GOP lawmakers during baseball practice. (Read more)

- Lord, we do pray for unity, and truth. We bind up the spirits of hatred and violence that have seized our nation and loose Your Holy Spirit against them in the Mighty Name and by the Blood of Jesus.

- . . . "whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

6. Journalists accuse Trump of inciting violence against the press - The Hill

At least 200 journalists, most of them retired or semi-retired, have signed on to a letter condemning President Trump's attacks on the media and accusing him of inciting violence against the press.

"Trump's condoning of political violence is part of a sustained pattern of attack on a free press - which includes labeling any reportage he doesn't like as 'fake news' and barring reporters and news organizations whom he wishes to punish from press briefings and events," the open letter reads.

The journalists, many from ABC News, criticize Trump for his recent comments praising Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.) as "my guy" while discussing Gianforte's body-slam of Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs last year. Former ABC News producer Meredith Wheeler told The Washington Post that she organized the effort, adding that the letter is still gathering signatures. (Read more)

- Father, even though President Trump is often harsh, most of the vicious slams against him have been from the news media. We ask that truth be shown, and that his enemies will be ashamed.

- "Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; yes, let them be put to shames and perish. That men may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord." (Psalm83:17,18a)

7. Avenatti accused of 'outright fraud' in new FBI referral - Washington Times

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a new request Friday for the Justice Department to open a second investigation into Michael Avenatti, saying the anti-Trump lawyer lied to Congress through a second affidavit. "Simply put, the sworn statement Mr. Avenatti provided the committee on October 2 appears to be an outright fraud," Mr. Grassley wrote in asking the FBI to conduct a review.

Earlier this week Mr. Grassley asked the FBI to look at whether the lawyer and his client Julie Swetnick lied when they alleged Justice Brett Kavanaugh was complicit in gang rapes at high school parties in the 1980s. Ms. Swetnick's story changed, though, and her charges remain uncorroborated. Mr. Grassley says Mr. Avenatti appeared to be trying to obstruct the Senate's confirmation process - a federal crime.

In an effort to back up Ms. Swetnick, Mr. Avenatti in early October submitted another affidavit - though he did not reveal to the committee who it was from. He did, however, put NBC in touch with the author. But she turned out to blow a hold in Mr. Avenatti's version. . . Mr. Grassley concluded: "When reporters pressed him on these discrepancies, Mr. Avenatti attempted to deceive them in an apparent effort to thwart the truth coming out." (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that justice be served in this case. NBC sat on the information that showed the lies, and Avenatti initiated a total deception from the beginning.

- "A false witness will not go unpunished." (Proverbs 19:5a)

8. Young people back single-payer health care - One News Now

Large majorities of young Americans want to see an expansion of government services, including a single-payer health care program, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and MTV.

According to the poll, 69 percent of young Americans between the ages of 15 and 34 favor a national health plan, known as a single-payer program. Eighty-eight percent of young Democrats and 40 percent of young Republicans favor a government-run health insurance program, according to the poll. Roughly two-thirds of young independents are in favor.

Young Americans called health care a very important issue in deciding how to vote. Sixty-two percent of those who will be old enough to vote in the midterms rated it as such. That's the most who said the same of any issue in the poll, including immigration and the economy.

Thirty-three-year-old Jasmine Miller, of Detroit, said that she pays $800 a month for health insurance to cover herself and her son. Miller, who describes herself as a humanitarian, said that health care is among the issues she cares about most.

"It should be a universal standard for health care," said Miller, who prefers Democrats. "If we do have to pay deductibles, at least let our premiums be lower." (Read more)

- Lord, these young people have no concepts of the overall costs of "single payer" healthcare. We ask for a move of Your Spirit among them to show the truth.

- "Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths." (Psalm 25:4)

9. Facebook Removes Pro-Life Ads of Babies Who Survived Premature Birth - CBN

A pro-life group says Facebook refuses to run its ads featuring the stories of two babies who survived premature births.

The Susan B. Anthony List, a nationwide pro-life organization, tried to run 30-second ads about Charlotte and Micah, two babies born around 20 weeks who grew up to live healthy lives. The ads are meant to promote the dignity of life in the womb and highlight politicians who support late-term abortions in the lead-up to the mid-term elections.

The video about Charlotte Ryun features interviews from her parents, who were given a grim prognosis when she was born at just 24 weeks. She did survive and continues to grow into a healthy girl. (Read more)

- Father, we ask for repentance for Facebook regarding these ads, and pray for a move of Your Spirit among all Facebook employees.

- "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand." (Matthew 3:2)

10. Iranians Caught Posing As Americans On Facebook To Hype Mueller Investigation, Slam Trump And Kavanaugh - Daily Caller

Facebook on Friday deleted 82 pages, groups and accounts that it determined were part of an online influence operation located in Iran.

The Iranians operated 30 Facebook pages, 33 individual accounts and three groups, as well as 16 accounts on Facebook-owned Instagram, Facebook head of cybersecurity policy Nathaniel Gleicher said in a statement Friday.

The pages had over a combined 1 million followers and the groups had more than 25,000 members, Gleicher said.

Facebook provided several examples of the Iranian propaganda, which promoted former National Football League (NFL) quarterback Colin Kaepernick's activism while criticizing President Donald Trump and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You will protect all Americans from any influence by foreign powers.

- "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit."

Three ways to deal with this hate-filled environment

The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting is a horrible event that should never happen in America. The Daily Jot and Living Spring Church express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims' families. Our prayers are with you and this very divided nation. But despite the tragedy, those filled with hate only increased their vitriolic rhetoric against President Trump and conservative members of society, blaming them for the type of anti-Semitism that lures people to kill for race, religion or politics. They continue to ruthlessly promote political gain over empathy for humanity. Their words are how to discern who really cares about what they say they care about. The blame continues no matter the circumstances.

The finger-pointers come from one side of the political aisle. They don't even express the decency of reverence for the victims and their families. They just relentlessly attack. Take for instance, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank telling MSNBC that Trump was giving license to unbalanced people like the perpetrators of mail bombs being sent to political figures and the synagogue shooting. Billionaire Democratic Party donor Tom Steyer told CNN that Trump created the atmosphere of "routine, systematic lawlessness." GQ Magazine's Julia Ioffe told CNN Trump has been trafficking in "anti-Semitic tropes" since he took office. She said his actions were like dog whistles to those who would commit violence. Last week, Democratic Party Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer said Trump condones the violence.

In reality, CNN, the NY Times, MSNBC and other networks are giving platforms to people suggesting assassination of the president, blowing up the White House, and other acts or visions of violence. There have been over 610 incidents of violence against Trump supporters perpetrated by the left since January 2016 as documented by John Nolte of Breitbart News. A Republican congressman was shot. Democratic leaders have labeled those who disagree with them as racists, bigots, deplorables, dregs, Nazis and more. They have encouraged confrontation at restaurants, gas stations, and homes. They refuse to denounce violence committed by Antifa and others. There is a right and a wrong here. There is no moral equivalence to what these people have suggested and the rhetoric of Trump's tweets, although he needs to tone it down.

While Ioffe is wrong about Trump being anti-Semitic, she is right that vitriolic rhetoric is like a dog whistle to the crazies. We the People must demand that it stop. This is not America. It is rebellion and coup-making. It is way out of hand. First, we can intercede by repenting for our country and pray the Lord brings peace to our land. Next, we can invoke the Golden Rule whenever we speak to others-As Christ said in Luke 6:31,"And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise." We need to bring the rhetoric down and hold one another accountable to civility. The third thing we can do is vote. Those politicians who blame others for what they themselves are doing must be sent a clear message that it is unacceptable and divisive behavior. If Christians vote in unity, that message will be clearly sent.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

A New Plan for October 31st!!

A New Plan for October 31st:

Hell-o-Ween~ has been cancelled

The 31st of October belongs to Jesus Christ!

It is not "hell-o-ween", it is The Global Day of TPW
(THANKSGIVING - PRAISE - WORSHIP)!

Which of the 365 days of the year did the Lord not create?

How come we allow the enemy to claim certain days of the year?

Surely every day was made by Him?

How come we allow the enemy to name days for his own purposes?

Just because the enemy has attached his works to certain days does not mean that they belong to him.

The devil is a thief and liar.

Lets us take every day back.

We cannot allow the enemy to steal any day of the year.

If we agree with the enemy that the 31 of October is hell-o-ween, then we are giving him authority.

It's time to seize the day!

This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)

HIGHER GROUND

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:14)

Lyrics

I'm pressing on the upward way, New heights I'm gaining every day; Still praying as I onward bound, "Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

Refrain:

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan's tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground

My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

Refrain

I want to live above the world,
Though Satan's darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

Refrain

I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I'll pray till rest I've found,
"Lord, lead me on to higher ground."

Refrain

Government ranks 18 US volcanoes in new report

Government scientists have classified 18 U.S. volcanoes as "very high threat" because of what's been happening inside them and how close they are to people.

The U.S. Geological Survey has updated its volcano threat assessments for the first time since 2005. The danger list is topped by Hawaii's Kilauea , which has been erupting this year. The others in the top five are Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier in Washington, Alaska's Redoubt Volcano and California's Mount Shasta .

"This report may come as a surprise to many, but not to volcanologists," said Concord University volcano expert Janine Krippner. "The USA is one of the most active countries in the world when it comes to volcanic activity," she said, noting there have been 120 eruptions in U.S. volcanoes since 1980.
Ewert said the threat rankings aren't about what will blow next, but "the potential severity" of the damage.

Eleven of the 18 very high threat volcanoes are in Oregon, Washington and California.

Besides the top 5, the rest of the Big 18 are: Mount Hood, Three Sisters and Crater Lake in Oregon; Akutan Island, Makushin, Mount Spurr and Augustine in Alaska; Lassen and Long Valley in California; Mount Baker and Glacier Peak in Washington; and Mauna Loa in Hawaii.

There's been a lot of speculation of a super eruption at Yellowstone, but Mike Poland, scientist in charge of the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, said "We don't really have any indication that Yellowstone is doing anything abnormal." (Associated Press; KCRA3/Sacramento, CA)

Brazil elects right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro as president

Brazil's Supreme Electoral Tribunal declared Sunday that far-right congressman Jair Bolsonaro, a champion of traditional Brazilian values, has won the country's election for the presidency of Latin America's biggest country and the world's fourth-largest democracy.

Bolsonaro, who cast himself as a political outsider despite a 27-year career in Congress, is the latest of several leaders around the globe to gain prominence by mixing tough, often violent talk with right-wing positions.

But he also is very much a product of a political tempest in Brazil that made his messages less marginalized: widespread anger at the political class amid years of corruption, an economy that has struggled to recover after a punishing recession and a surge in violence. The name of his party, PSL, translates to "Social Liberal Party," although it largely abandoned its socially liberal platforms after he joined.

Bolstering his rebel image is his reputation for offensive statements and sometimes extreme views, including insulting women, black people and the LGBT community. (Fox News) Read more.

- Lord, politics across the world has become rancorous on both sides. We pray for Brazil at this time, and ask that You grant this man wisdom to deal properly with his people.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
