"I will be their God, and they will be My people."
(Ezekiel 37:27)

The Daily Brief

1. Iceland votes to recognize Palestine - YnetNews

Iceland 'first Western European country to take this step,' FM boasts;
Abbas reaffirms statehood bid. The Icelandic parliament decided by 38 votes in the 63-seat house to back a resolution allowing for the recognition of a Palestinian state within the borders of the Six-Day War of 1967.

- Lord we are grieved at this horrible news, and grieved at Iceland's history of anti-Semitism. We pray for divine intervention in the life of Iceland's radical minister of foreign affairs, Ossurr Skarphedinsson as he represents a country that has caused huge financial damage abroad, and now believes it should tell sovereign Israel how to run its affairs. Ash clouds rose from the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano only last year causing major disturbances in European air traffic - Awaken this island nation to the danger they are in, spiritually and physically! Awaken Iceland to what You are saying to them Lord, may they have ears to hear and hearts to respond to You!

- " Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If they say, "surely we did not know this," does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul , does He not know it? And will He not render to each man (nation) according to his deeds." (Proverbs 12:11,12)

2. Senate defies Obama veto threat in terrorist custody vote - Washington Times

Defying a veto threat by President Obama, the Senate voted Tuesday to give the U.S. military first crack at holding al Qaeda operatives, even if they are captured in the U.S. and are American citizens, and also reaffirmed the policy of indefinite detention. Sixteen Democrats and one independent who caucuses with them defied the veto threat and joined 44 Republicans.

- Dear Lord, bless these steps taken by the Senate to insure that enemy soldiers are in the charge of our military, not in civilian courts, or used as pawns of an administration. Bring effective pressure upon President Obama, causing him not to fulfill his veto threat. May Your wisdom and unity prevail in our leaders as they deal with very real enemies bent on the destruction of America.

We pray, too, that the definition of an "al Qaeda operative" would be based on the truth, and that innocent American civilians end up being caught in this potential legal trap. Please place Your Blood around this law, that it be used only for the protection of our people. Amen.

- " For by wise counsel you will wage your own war..."
(Proverbs 24:6)

3. Ten Commandments dispute in Va. headed to federal court - Washington Times

A long-simmering battle in Virginia over the separation of church and state heads to federal court Monday, with a southwestern county school board fighting for the right to display the Ten Commandments in a public high school. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, in Roanoke, will hear arguments in the Giles County School Board's motion to dismiss a complaint brought by an (anonymous) high school student and the student's parent arguing that the biblical display violates the plaintiffs' First Amendment rights under the Constitution. The Ten Commandments has been displayed in all county schools for at least a decade before a complaint in December led to their removal and being replaced with a copy of the Declaration of Independence.

- O God arise, let our enemies be scattered!! Bring victory and blessing to the efforts of the Giles County school board as they seek to simply display the Ten Commandments - the very foundation of our nation's laws. Do not allow the court to prohibit freedom of speech simply because this document is found in the Bible. Lord, stop the efforts of a few from trampling the rights of the law abiding majority! Thank You for rallying of multitudes of students in this county in defense of displaying the Ten Commandments!

-"You will chase your enemies, and they will fall..."
(Leviticus 26:8)

4. Image shows Iranian missile site was destroyed - Washington Post

Two weeks after a mysterious explosion at an Iranian missile base, a Washington-based research group has released a satellite image showing extensive damage to the site. The image of the compound, near the city of Malard, doesn't provide any clues as to what caused the Nov. 12 explosion, which Iranian authorities described as an "accident" involving the transport of ammunition. But it does make clear that the facility has been effectively destroyed . . . the blast had occurred just as Iran had achieved a milestone in the development of a new missile.

- Glory to God who has again intervened to destroy those who purpose to destroy His beloved children, and the land of Israel! Praise His holy Name!!

- "For by strength shall no man prevail. The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken in pieces; from heaven He will thunder against them." (1 Samuel 2:10)

5. Researcher's Video Shows Secret Software on Millions of Phones Logging Everything
- Wired.com

Though the software is installed on most modern Android, BlackBerry and Nokia phones, Carrier IQ was virtually unknown until 25-year-old Trevor Eckhart of Connecticut analyzed its workings, revealing that the software secretly chronicles a user's phone experience - ostensibly so carriers and phone manufacturers can do quality control. But now he's released a video actually showing the logging of text messages, encrypted web searches and, well, you name it. "Every button you press in the dialer before you call," he says on the video, "it already gets sent off to the IQ application."

- Lord, it seems personal privacy is no longer an option if we are to keep up with technology, or even use its basics. Our cars, our phone use, our license plates are all recorded and kept by. . . . ?? Father, watch over Your children as this world gears up for the anti-Christ and the number that will be required by all in order to buy and sell. As we see so many things "come to pass" Lord, we will "Look up! for our redemption draws near!" Hallelujah!

-" When you see these things happening, know that it is near-- at the doors!" (Mark 13:29)

6. Hard Times Generation: Families Living in Cars - CBS News

More than 16 million children are now living in poverty and, for many of them, a proper home is elusive. Some cash-strapped families stay with relatives; others move into motels or homeless shelters. But, as Scott Pelley reports, sometimes those options run out, leaving an even more desperate choice: living in their cars. The number of kids in poverty in America is pushing toward 25 percent. Beth Davalos: The longevity of homelessness continues to rise, so people are running out of resources. The unemployment runs out. Their savings run out. The family that lent them money does not have it anymore 'cause they're looking at economic hardship. And before you know it they find themselves living in their car because they ran out of all options . . .They're very scared. And the reality is if the state found them in a car, they could-- their children could be taken away and put someplace safe for now.

- Lord, we pray for Your mighty provision for all these families who are suffering so greatly during this great unemployment time. Direct their steps to where they can find assistance. Keep them safe and for the rest of their lives, let them learn to be more and more dependent on You. Let them train their children to seek You first always.

- "But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you . . . " (Deuteronomy 28:15, 16)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

""But now many nations are gathered against you. They say, "Let her be defiled, let our eyes gloat over Zion!" But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD; they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor." (Micah 4:11,12)

The Defense and Health Ministries are preparing to hold a two-day drill starting Wednesday to test Israel's preparedness for an unconventional terror attack. The exercise, titled "Orange Flame 6," will examine the possibility of an outbreak of an infectious disease in northern cities.

2. Former Mossad chief: Israeli strike on Iran will lead to regional war - Ha'aretz

Former Mossad chief Meir Dagan said in a television interview on Tuesday that if Israel attacks Iran, it will be dragged into a regional war.

3. Netanyahu set to hand over $100 million in Palestinian tax money - Ha'aretz

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears ready to come down from his high horse: A month after the forum of eight senior ministers decided to freeze $100 million in tax revenues collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, the Israeli premier seems set to release the funds in coming days.

4. HIV rate rises sharply among gay men in Israel - Jerusalem Post

Among the 420 newly diagnosed cases of HIV in Israel in 2010, 148 of them were homosexual men, according to the Health Ministry, which is worried about the "dramatic increase" in infection among gay men. They constituted half of all men who were newly diagnosed.

The truth of the Defense Authorization Act

There is much being discussed on the internet regarding the Senate's 61-37 passage of the National Defense Authorization Act. The American Civil Liberties Union claims that the bill for the first time in US history allows the indefinite detention of American citizens by the US Military through defining the continental United States as part of the battleground in the war on terror. Citizens nationwide are flaming this news to every email list they have. The ACLU claims, like the bulk of the anti-American work conducted by this organization, are unfounded when one reads the straightforward language of the bill, only proving that the ACLU is consistent in its effort to treat terrorists with the same rights as citizens.

Section 1031 of the bill (the section ACLU is hollering "Fire" over) states: "Congress affirms that the authority of the President to use all necessary and appropriate force pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force (Public Law 107-40) includes the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons (as defined in subsection (b)) pending disposition under the law of war." In essence, the bill does extend the terror battlefield to the entirety of the United States. Common sense dictates, however, that the more undocumented aliens cross our borders, and the more Muslims we appease as part of our politically correct culture, the more America becomes a battlefield.

A covered person is: "(1) A person who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored those responsible for those attacks. (2) A person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces." Section 1032 then states: "The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States."

Then section 1032 reiterates: "The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to a lawful resident alien of the United States on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States, except to the extent permitted by the Constitution of the United States." It is unconstitutional to hold an American citizen without charges and a speedy trial, and this bill does not seem to violate that right. This Congress and White House have, however, violated the trust of the American public to the extent that every action is deserving of great scrutiny. Jesus told us in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." It is good to question the deceivers' actions, but do so armed with knowledge and wisdom.

US citizens told to leave Syria "immediately"

US aircraft carrier stationed offshore

Major developments in Syria are making war in the Middle East even more likely and more imminent. The U.S. State Department has instructed all U.S. citizens to leave Syria "immediately." At the same time, the navy has decided to reposition the USS George H. W. Bush aircraft carrier and its support ships near the Syrian coastline. As I prepared to leave Israel last week, rumors were circulating that the U.S. and NATO forces were planning a military operation against the Assad government like the one that led to the overthrow and death of Col. Kaddafi in Libya.

It is highly likely that Iran would be drawn into the hostilities; it has recently strengthened its military ties with Syria and is believed to have several thousand soldiers stationed in that country. It is also very likely that an attack on Israel would be launched in retaliation for military strikes on Syria. Neither Syria nor Iran currently has the weaponry to strike at America's homeland, but they could quickly rain down death and destruction on the Jewish state. I have been telling you that war is coming soon-and it may be coming even sooner than expected.

. . . As I prayed about this, I was directed to the Book of Joel: "Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, Let all the men of war draw near, Let them come up," (Joel 3:9). "Blow the trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the LORD is coming, For it is at hand." (Joel 2:1). "Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her dressing room. Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, Weep between the porch and the altar." (Joel 2:15-17).

Dr. Michael Evans; Jerusalem Prayer Team

- Cry out and ask the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords to move in divine intervention, to stay the hand of Israel's enemy, and to move upon the hearts of the leaders of the nations to go to war only in His set and appointed time. Pray for the safety of all Jews and Arabs in the Middle East, and ask that the Lord would send the wind of His Holy Spirit across these desert lands, so that multitudes would come to know Him as their Savior, their Lord and their Messiah. Amen.

- "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens . . . a time for war and a time for peace."
Eccl. 3:1,8)

The Good News Corner:

Universities Join Penn State in 40-Day Email Prayer Series

"As the events unfold at Penn State, we believe God is saying important things. The best hope for change is to agree with God by saying what He's saying. The lion has fallen, and we are in free fall. But if we heed God's Words, a New Lion will arise in Lion Country." -CS Heinz
Students and faculty from other universities have joined Penn State in a 40-day email prayer series, according to State College writer CS Heinz.

The email series called "40 Days of Prayer for PSU," will help people pray for the crisis at Penn State including the alleged victims, their families, and abuse survivors. It is available at www.PrayPSU.org.

The prayer series was created by CS Heinz and is supported by area churches. "I started getting consumed by the news reports and opinions. Then I realized I hadn't asked God what He thought about the situation," Heinz said. "So I did and that's where the idea of starting this prayer movement came from."

In addition to students and faculty at Penn State, the prayer series has attracted people from universities like Ohio State, University of Virginia, Clemson, and University of Oklahoma.

"Universities that Penn State normally competes with in sports and academia are signing up to pray for Penn State," Heinz said. "Our need for something and Someone greater than ourselves is uniting us in this dark hour. I think that's why many people are turning to prayer."

After signing up for the series, participants will receive a daily email with a devotional message, prayer point, and Bible verse. At the end of the 40 days, participants will have prayed 40 different things for the Penn State crisis.

"Many things need to change and that's why we're praying," Heinz said. Originally the series was 30 days long, but Heinz felt that 30 days wasn't enough. "In the Bible, 40 days often marked the beginning of a new season. That's what we need here, a new season."

Others agree. In addition to current faculty and students, members of the Penn State Alumni Association, one of the largest alumni groups in the world, have joined the series. Residents of State College, which is Penn State's hometown, have joined as well. And people who have been affected by sexual abuse are participating.

"Mark my words," Heinz said, "When we come together and pray, God will move."

Everyone is invited to sign up for the series at www.PrayPSU.org.

 The Daily Brief

1. White House: It's a 'Mystery' Why Anyone Would Question That Kagan Should Judge Obamacare - CNSNews.com

Although internal Justice Department e-mails released this year as a result of Freedom of Information Act lawsuits raise questions about whether Justice Elena Kagan should recuse herself from the Obamacare case pending before the Supreme Court, White House Press Secretary Carney indicated today that Kagan had asked and answered all questions relevant to recusal at her confirmation hearings in 2010. Carney said that "it's a mystery to me" why people would question whether Kagan should recuse. When pressed about the e-mails, Carney moved to a different topic. Read more.

- Dear Lord, we lift our Supreme Court justices to you, and ask for justice to be done in this situation with Kagan and in the Obamacare case. We pray for conviction by the Holy Spirit to make right decisions. We pray those speaking truth have favor with the Supreme Court. We ask that wrong decisions be reversed, and we pray for Your justice. We pray for a change of heart in those justices who do not follow You, that there may be truth and justice in all of their cases and work. Please bring them to repentance and revelation knowledge. May You, our righteous Judge, rule in our Supreme Court.

- How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked. (Psalm 82:2)

2. Obama Has Halved Spending on Border Fencing, Infrastructure, Technology--Leaving 1,300 Miles of Mexico Border Unfenced - CNSNews.com

The Obama administration has slashed spending on border fencing, infrastructure and technology, cutting it by more than half since it peaked under President George W. Bush in fiscal 2008, according to a Government Accountability Office report. In 2008, according to GAO, the federal government spent more than $1.3 billion on border security fencing, infrastructure and technology. In 2011, it spend $573 million. Meanwhile, Customs and Border Protection has said that as of June it had fenced only 649 miles of the nearly 1,954-mile-long U.S.-Mexico border--leaving more than 1,300 miles of that border unfenced. Read more.

- Lord, make peace at our border we pray. We pray for a President who will secure our border. We pray for a spiritual change, as well as a physical change to protect our borders. Please raise up intercessors who will continue to pray for this huge problem. The prayer warrior voicing this prayer has seen for herself - as well as heard testimonies, of the great help the fence has been in stopping the illegal border trafficking, as well as having a vision after 9/11 that the invasion would be from South. Thank You for protecting our borders in Jesus name.

- He makes peace in your borders. (Psalm 147:14)

3. Time's Up for Obama's Controversial Medicare/Medicaid Director - CNSNews.com

President Obama's controversial, never-confirmed director of Medicare and Medicaid Services is being replaced. With only a few weeks to go until Dr. Donald Berwick's recess appointment runs out, Obama has nominated Marilyn Tavenner to replace Berwick. The low-key announcement was made, not in person, but via a statement posted on the White House Web site the day before Thanksgiving. Read more.

- Your word says to pray for those in authority, so we pray Marilyn Tavenner will have godly wisdom in this new position. There are so many that need help with health issues, Lord. We also know You are our ultimate healer. Lord, we ask for Your wisdom and help in dealing with the health issues in this country. By Your stripes, Jesus, we are healed and we thank You.

- There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.
(Proverbs 12:18)

4. Growing Number of Programs Across USA Help Vets to Get Jobs - USA Today

Helmets to Hardhats is among many initiatives nationwide, both public and private, aimed at getting veterans back to work. The unemployment rate as of October for post - 9/11 veterans was 12.1%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics - 3% above the national unemployment rate. In Michigan, which has a 16% veteran unemployment rate, a program called Vets to Ag is trying to make a difference.

More needs to be done, New Jersey veterans advocate and Air Force veteran Walter Tafe says. "The sacrifice they've made, the commitment to their country, and then to find themselves unemployed is a terrible thing," Tafe says. "I don't really know that we can ever do enough for our veterans."

- Lord, we thank you for alerting more people to the plight of the vets and their families. We pray that you will bless them with plenty of jobs, housing, and money. If they have suffered any injury, we pray that they will have more than enough resources. Let those resources be easy for them to find and access.

- "If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs." (Dt. 15:7, 8)

5. Putin formally nominated to reclaim presidency - Breitbart

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Sunday sternly warned the West against interfering in Russia's elections in a speech before thousands of cheering supporters as he formally launched his presidential bid. Putin, who stepped down in 2008 after two presidential terms but kept his hold on power, announced in September that he intended to reclaim the top job next year and on Sunday was formally nominated by his United Russia party.

- Lord, we pray for the people of Russia and their election. We pray for those who will come into your kingdom. We know there will be tough times in the last days; we pray for strength for your people to stand through whatever the Russian government and others will do. Your people all over the world look to You, our Savior, especially this Christmas time of year. We thank You for the hope You give us.

- So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. (Matthew 14:49)

6. China 'deeply shocked' by NATO Pakistan strikes - AsiaOne.com

China said Monday it was "deeply shocked" by NATO air strikes that left 24 Pakistani soldiers dead, and demanded an investigation into the incident. "China is deeply shocked at the incident and expresses strong concerns and deep condolences to the victims in Pakistan," foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a regular news briefing. "China believes that Pakistan's independent sovereignty and territory should be respected."

- Lord, we lift up the situation of the 24 dead Pakistani soldiers. We pray that truth be revealed, and that a root of bitterness not rise up. We pray for the leadership dealing with this situation; that they would lead their people out of bitterness. In the name of Jesus we submit our prayers and petitions with thanksgiving that we can come to You.

- Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled. (Hebrews 12:14)

The prophetic implications of a Eurozone collapse

The London Financial Times is reporting that the eurozone has only days before it comes face to face with financial collapse. This event, if it occurs, should be watched very carefully by those discerning the times. The collapse of Europe's financial system is the throw-down of the earth's oldest remaining financial system. This reaches deep into the old money of the world. Financiers are trying their best to put a system in place to avoid a total collapse. Problem is, they are seeking to prop the current system with the same policies that caused it to fail in the first place--debt and debt financing. The potential collapse of the eurozone has long reaching impact, described by some as viral.

Beyond debt and debt financing through manipulation of unlimited bonds backed by the European Central Bank, another very interesting concept is being discussed--a fiscal union. Wolfgang Munchau of the Financial Times writes "This would involve a partial loss of national sovereignty, and the creation of a credible institutional framework to deal with fiscal policy, and hopefully wider economic policy issues as well. The eurozone needs a treasury, properly staffed, not ad hoc coordination by the European Council over coffee and desert." The key words in this report are a "partial loss of national sovereignty." This is the prophetic direction that Europe is taking and if it is indeed viral, this concept will spread.

It was revealed Monday that the Federal Reserve had secretly boosted banks in the US by far more than was reported. Bloomberg reports: "Add up guarantees and lending limits, and the Fed had committed $7.77 trillion as of March 2009 to rescuing the financial system, more than half the value of everything produced in the US that year." Bloomberg says that the Fed never disclosed the details of the bank bailout to Congress "even as Congress doled out more money and debated new rules aimed at preventing the next collapse." Now the American people are indebted to the government to the tune of $14 trillion, and both Europe and American politicians are demanding more debt to finance this debt.

When you look at the financial landscape, who has the money? China, you might say. But China is so very dependent on the US and Europe for its economy, same with Japan. Those who have the money are Islamic. Every nation mentioned in the Bible regarding the end time attacks on Israel are Islamic. First, there will be a "partial loss of national sovereignty" for the nations to accept and submit to the Revelation 13:17 scenario "that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." World financial collapse, Islam arising, loss of sovereignty--seems the ingredients are there for the march of prophecy, in type and shadow or in reality. Watch and pray.

Using Government To Oppress

If you need more evidence of why government should be limited, consider the examples of the Richmond Tea Party and a Georgia businessman.

A local Tea Party group recently sent a $10,000 invoice to the City of Richmond, Virginia, demanding a refund of all the permits and fees it paid to hold rallies in Kanawha Plaza -- the same place where Occupy Richmond has camped out at no expense. In response, the City of Richmond has launched an audit of the Tea Party for failing to file necessary monthly reports related to excise taxes for admission, lodging and meals.

I applaud the Richmond Tea Party for demanding its money back, and I hope other groups do the same. These "occupy" encampments are straining city budgets and costing taxpayers millions. I suspect few if any of them have paid for permits and other fees that are usually required for large public gatherings. But this fits the occupiers' general sense of entitlement. Just like demanding forgiveness of their student loan debts, they expect hardworking taxpayers to pick up their tab.

Several months ago, Georgia businessman Bill Looman got fed up with the state of the economy and posted signs in his trucks that read, "New Company Policy: We Are Not Hiring Until Obama Is Gone." Pictures of the signs went viral online last week, and the left went ballistic. Looman was forced to shut down his company's website and disconnect his phone because of threats from "tolerant" liberals.

Then the Secret Service showed up because someone reported him as a threat to Obama's safety. According to Looman, "They gave me the typical interview to see if I was a threat. We actually had a good meeting and when they left, they were under the impression that they wasted their time."

Far from being a threat, small business owners and entrepreneurs like Bill Looman are the backbone of this great nation. It is their initiative and hard work, not Obama's class warfare or the whining of the OWS crowd, that we should be encouraging and need more of. (Gary Bauer)

Defending DOMA

Christian Coalition Supporters Are Urged to Defend the Defense of Marriage Act

Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the so-called, Orwellian-named "Respect for Marriage Act", S.598, out of committee by a party-line, 10-8 margin. This bill would abolish the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and would force the recognition of gay marriages throughout America in all 50 states.

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was overwhelmingly passed in 1996, by a whopping margin of 85-14 in the United States Senate and by an equally overwhelming margin in the United States House of Representatives by a margin of 342-67.

All Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) by voting NO on the so-called "Respect for Marriage Act of 2011" last week. On the other hand, All 10 Democrat Senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted for the so-called "Respect for Marriage Act of 2011" which will eliminate DOMA. Read more.

State Department Uses Facebook to Fight 'Against Hate' and 'Stop Bigotry'

Two State Department officials are promoting a Facebook page, "2011 Hours Against Hate," as a tool to help young people around the world "push back against hatred." Farah Pardith, special representative to Moslem communities for the U.S. Department of State, said on Nov. 22, 2011 that she wants to recruit youth around the world to stop hate.

The information portion of the Facebook page states: "2011 Hours Against Hate is a campaign to stop bigotry and promote pluralism and respect across lines of culture, religion, tradition, class, and gender. We are asking people around the world to pledge their time to stop hate - to do something for someone who doesn't look like you, pray like you, or live like you." - Heavenly Father, we pray that You will expose those who are seeking to indoctrinate our youth with ideas that are not Yours. We pray that the Holy Spirit will come strongly upon all our youth and citizens to be able to discern quickly the schemes of people who are trying to make evil sound good and good sound evil. Block those people from succeeding in their indoctrination of our nation.

- "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

Air Force Academy Adapts to Pagans, Druids, Witches and Wiccans

Their ranks are slim. According to the academy's enrollment records, only three of 4,300 cadets identified themselves as pagans, followers of an ancient religion that generally does not worship a single god and considers all things in nature interconnected. Still, the academy this year dedicated an $80,000 outdoor worship center - a small Stonehenge-like circle of boulders with propane fire pit - high on a hill for the handful of current or future cadets whose religions fall under the broad category of "Earth-based." Those include pagans, Wiccans, druids, witches and followers of Native American faiths.

Two spiritual leaders for all Earth-based religions - one a civilian, one an Air Force reservist - are witches and regularly cast spells, which they say is not so different from offering prayer . . . In addition to providing worship space, new policy dictates that all cadets take courses in understanding the religions of those who may someday fall under their command. Recently Chaplain Maj. Darren Duncan, branch chief of cadet faith communities has fielded calls from West Point and Annapolis about replicating the Air Force's efforts. (LA Times) Obama as Commander in Chief could stop this madness...but....

- Heavenly Father, we are grieved beyond measure that these things are taking place in our military - the ones who are entrusted to defend us. Bit by bit our military and nation is being destroyed. We repent - and seek Your forgiveness for allowing other gods to take root in our culture. We pray that a loud protest in our nation and in our courts will rise up and quash this abomination of serving other gods.

- "Repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings . . . Do not go after other gods to serve them and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you."
(Jeremiah 25:5, 6)

The Good News Corner:

Wis. governor Walker says it's a Christmas, not holiday, tree

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Monday that the evergreen decorated with ornaments and adorned with a star in the center of Wisconsin's Capitol Rotunda is a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree as it's been called for the past 25 years.

The roughly 30-foot-tall tree was called a Christmas tree from the first display in 1916 until 1985. That's when politicians bowed to concerns about government endorsing religion and started referring to it as a holiday tree.

The Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation has opposed the term Christmas tree, saying it offends nonreligious people and amounts to a government endorsement of Christianity. . .
Walker, in a press release, downplayed any potential controversy by simply referring to the decoration as a Christmas tree and not noting any change. His spokesman Cullen Werwie confirmed that the designation and change from past practices was intentional.

"It's a Christmas tree," Werwie said. "In all honesty, I don't know what more to say about it." (The Chicago Tribune) Read more.

A Special Note to Our Readers:

We had hoped to launch our "new look" today, but due to technical difficulties, this will have to wait. We appreciate the many notes you continue to send us, letting us know how important our work is to you. The main reason for our delay today is that we want to also provide a "printer friendly" document for you to copy and take to your own prayer groups, as many of you are doing now. Thank you for your patience with us, as we continue to figure out how to do this for you, at a cost-effective price. Blessings to all!!
The Daily Brief - Monday, November 28, 2011

"I will be their God, and they will be My people." (Ezekiel 37:27)

The Daily Brief

1. Egyptians cast votes in first post-revolution elections
- Jerusalem Post

Egyptians voted on Monday in their first election since a popular revolt ousted Hosni Mubarak, amid fears the generals who replaced the deposed leader would try to cling on to power. In the nine months since a revolt ended the ex-president's 30-year rule, political change in Egypt has faltered, with the military apparently more focused on preserving its power and privilege than on fostering any democratic transformation.

- Lift up a prayer that the election results would not be corrupted, and that the people will calmly accept the outcome. Continue to pray against the growing influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, whose desire is solely to place that nation under the bondage of Sharia law. Pray for Egypt!

- "Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:19,20)

2. US Vows Full Probe into Pakistan Border Incident - AP

The Hussein Obama administration on Saturday pledged a full investigation into a NATO attack that allegedly killed 24 Pakistani troops. The incident was a major blow to American efforts to rebuild an already tattered alliance vital to winding down the 10-year-old Afghan war. It was the latest in a series of setbacks to the alliance, often caused by border incidents.

Islamabad called the bloodshed in one of its tribal areas a "grave infringement" of the country's sovereignty. The relationship between Pakistan and the U.S. has severely deteriorated over the last year, especially following the covert American raid that killed Osama bin Laden in a Pakistani garrison town in May. Islamabad was outraged it wasn't told about the operation beforehand.

- Lord, we pray that the emotions and actions of all these leaders will be tempered. The route and drone area positions that will be compromised must be preserved for the troops working in that area. Give our officials wisdom as to how to deal with this matter quickly and strengthen our ties with nations in the Middle East.

- "Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city. The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD." (Proverbs 16: 32, 33)

3. Analysis: Deficit Flop Turns Spotlight on Tax Reform - Reuters

. . . The acrimonious collapse last week of talks in Congress to start fixing the budget deficit has left the country at a political standstill and limits the prospects for a tax overhaul. The debate has gotten stuck in a political standoff," said Mark Robyn, an economist at the Tax Foundation. "As long as each side demonizes the other, progress on deficit reduction will be difficult."

The chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Max Baucus, a Democrat of Montana, wants change. "Tax reform needs to bring efficiency, simplicity and fairness to the system. Done right, tax reform can spark job creation and widespread growth and help U.S. businesses compete in the global economy," he said.

Former Soviet states that adopted radical tax plans such as a low flat rate enjoyed strong growth. President Reagan's 1986 reforms, which after two years of haggling resulted in a cut to the corporate rate, helped lay the foundation for strong economic growth in the 1990s. The urgency for action is mounting. It already has triggered a ratings downgrade from Standard & Poor's with the threat of more to come.

- Lord, we pray you will give us many people in office who have Your wisdom and business sense. Remove quickly all those who refuse to cut back on spending or incorporate tax reforms with reasonable tax laws. We need new politicians who will do this work quickly and who will not be corrupt. Remove the corrupt ones, by Your Mighty Hand. Amen.

- "He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough! A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished." (Proverbs 28: 19, 20)

4. Sunday Shows: Republicans to Reconfigure US Budget Cuts - MSNBC

U.S. Republicans will try to spare defense programs by reconfiguring the $1.2 trillion in spending cuts that are to be triggered starting in 2013 by the collapse of a congressional deficit-cutting committee, a leading Republican senator said Sunday. "I think there's a broad consensus that too much of the cuts are weighted on our defense's capabilities and would really, really cut in deeply into our ability to defend this nation," said Senator Pat Toomey, a member of the "super committee" that failed last week to reach a deal to reduce the huge U.S. debt.

Husein Obama threatened last week to veto any efforts to undo the $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts over 10 years. Tinkering with the cuts "would be a huge mistake," Schumer said. "If you take one of those knives away" of pending cuts to Republican-favored defense programs or Democratic-favored domestic programs, there is no incentive to negotiate, Senator Charles Schumer said.

- Lord, we thank You that there are some serious people trying to reconfigure these cuts. We bind those who would jeopardize our defense and those programs which are absolutely essential. Highlight the wasteful programs to our leaders and let them agree quickly to cutting those items out instead.

- "Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you . . . " (Proverbs 4:5, 6)

5.  Hussein Obama Leaves God out of Thanksgiving Speech, Riles Critics
- ABC News

Fox News Radio, radio host Todd Starnes also took issue. "His remarks were void of any religious references, although Thanksgiving is a holiday traditionally steeped in giving thanks and praise to God," Starnes wrote.  Ironically, the attacks on Hussein Obama came as the Republican White House hopefuls suspended their criticism of the president on Thursday in favor of a unified message of thanks to U.S. service members and their families. Three of the Republican presidential candidates - Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum - issued Thanksgiving statements that omitted any references to God. Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Perry mentioned God in their statements.

- Lord, it is not just this administration, but many elected officials that have chosen to be politically correct in trying not to offend others. But you clearly said, that we must boldly proclaim the gospel. Raise up a great flood of leaders who will speak your name. And bless those who are evangelizing the lost.

- "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy Angels."  (Mark 8:38)

6. Violence, Pepper Spray Mars Black Friday Shopping - Reuters

A shopper pepper-sprayed other bargain hunters and robbers shot at customers to steal their Black Friday purchases, marring the start of the U.S., according to authorities. A Cave Creek, Arizona, Walmart was evacuated and shopping halted temporarily Thursday night after an apparent explosive device was found in an employee break room, Maricopa County Sheriff's Department spokesman Christopher Hegstrom said.

In Manhattan, a group of shoppers upset that Hollister's flagship store was not opening at midnight like other locations apparently broke into the store and stole a large quantity of clothing, police said. No arrests have been made in the burglary.

- Lord, we pray that these incidences will wake people up to the greed that is overtaking our nation. Let church leaders call for repentance of this spirit that is gripping our nation and give us all a deep desire for godliness and temperance.  Let people hunger for purity in their actions instead of letting course actions control them.

- "Behold, therefore, I stretched out My hand against you, diminished your allotment, and gave you up to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior." (Ezekiel 16:27)

7. Capitol gets 65-foot Christmas tree from California forest - The Hill

A 65-foot Sierra white fir from California arrived Monday and became the Capitol Christmas tree. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will oversee the official tree lighting during a ceremony on Dec. 6, according to a Monday statement from the Architect of the Capitol (AoC).

The AoC will decorate the tree with approximately 3,000 ornaments, handcrafted by Californians as part of this year's theme, California Shines.

- As our hearts begin to turn now towards our next major holiday, intercede that many will pause amidst the glitter and the festivities to consider the One whose birth we truly celebrate at this time of year, our King of Kings and our Lord of Lords. Amen.

- " . . . and unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulder." (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)

8. 6th earthquake in 4 days recorded in Oklahoma - CBS

Sunday's earthquake is the sixth in the area since Thursday, when a 3.7 magnitude quake was recorded near Prague (Oklahoma). Three more were recorded Friday.

- As we all draw near to this momentous year of "shakings," may we each know that our hearts have been prepared to meet our Savior, when that time comes. Ask our Lord to move upon the hearts of the unsaved in this season, so that all continued shakings would cause them to find the Rock of our Salvation. Amen.

- "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

(Acts 4:12)

1. US Carrier Strike Force Enters Syrian Waters. Russian Carrier en route - DEBKAfile

The Syrian crisis assumed a big power dimension this week with the build-up of rival US and Russian air carrier armadas in Syrian waters - ranged against and in support of Bashar Assad, debkafile's military sources report. The USS George H.W. Bush arrived Wednesday, November 23, with 70 fighter-bombers and 8 guided missile cruisers and destroyers. Russia's only air carrier the Admiral Kuznetsov is due in mid-week to boost the three Russian warships already anchored off the Syrian port of Tartus.

Prophetic implications of US Middle East policies

The Middle East was a big ticket item in the 1980 presidential election between incumbent Jimmy Carter and challenger Ronald Reagan. Carter had overseen, even encouraged in the name of "democracy," the overthrow and deposing of the Shah of Iran, one of the staunchest non-Jewish US allies in the region. The Islamists under Ayatollah Khemeni stormed the American Embassy and took it and its people hostage. This, and Carter's growing friendship with terrorist Yassir Arafat, leader of the Soviet-backed Palestinian Liberation Organization, ushered in the modern era of Islamic terrorism. Yet, Carter won a 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his misguided policies in advancing peace, democracy and human rights.

Some 30 years later, radicalization of the Middle East continues with America's help. The man who occupies the Oval Office has repeated history on a much grander scale. The current administration has publicly partnered with known terrorist sponsor, the Muslim Brotherhood, and at times America's enemy of the decade, al Qaeda, to overthrow governments in the Middle East in the name of "democracy." Now the entire Middle East from Libya to Egypt to Tunisia to Yemen to Morocco to Syria to Pakistan is afire with vehement infighting and revolution. The most common outcome is the positioning of anti-Israel, anti-American Islamic Sharia Law governments rising to power.

This, coupled with the actions of the previous Bush Administration in Iraq, Afghanistan and in Israel (by forcing the evacuation of Israeli settlers from Gaza and democratic elections where terrorist were legitimately voted into power) has made the world a much more dangerous place, but has also advanced prophetic fulfillment. The foreign policy objectives of the past two White Houses has resulted in the elevation of Islamic radicals to positions of power throughout the Middle East. Meantime, there has been nothing greater than lip service and useless sanctions put in place to stop the Russian-China-North Korea axis from assisting Iran in obtaining nuclear weapons and the missile systems to deliver them.

The signs of the time, in the very least, point to a type and shadow of the Day of the Lord, if not the real thing. Isaiah 14:1 speaks of the Lord having "mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land." Isaiah 17:1 prophesies "Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap." As Iran is assisted in its radicalization efforts directly or indirectly by US policies, end time prophecies continue to align. Directly North is Turkey, which has become more Islamic and less secular. It was the last capital of both the Roman Empire, and the Ottoman Empire Caliphate which ruled much of the same territory as Rome until the 1920s. Be watchful that you are not deceived.

The Last Letter of the Ancient Hebrew Alphabet is in the Form of a Cross!

(A devotional by George Whitten, publisher, Worthy News)

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. (Luke 9:23-24)

Our sojourn in America has been a series of divine appointments. When we were in Nashville, we were introduced to the ancient Hebrew alphabet; letters which were originally written much like ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics in the time of Moses. In this written language it was often possible to derive the meaning of a word, because each letter was a symbol, which had its own particular meaning and significance. The different combinations of these letters/symbols formed "words" which were closely related to the meanings of the letters. Some fascinating revelations emerge from looking at this linguistic phenomenon, so I'm beginning a series of devotionals to unveil, letter by letter, the mysteries hidden in ancient Hebrew, and how these can be applied to our lives.

Beginning with the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which is called "Tav", we learn that this letter was used to indicate a mark or sign of the covenant. Can it be a coincidence that the letter "Tav" is easily recognized throughout the world today . . . as a cross!

The ancient Hebrew alphabet ends with a sign of the covenant -- a cross. The last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, aptly, symbolizes the end of our Lord's human life on this earth, as He put and end to sin by His crucifixion, establishing the New Covenant.

Drawing a close parallel in our own lives as believers we realize that our natural lives as sinful humans must end at the cross. We are crucified with Christ (Messiah) and we no longer live, but Messiah lives in us; and the life that we now live, we live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us. [Galations 2:20] In this resurrected life of faith, we "take up our crosses" daily, walking in the finality of the death of our sinful nature; and this is a sign to the world of the New Covenant which God has established through His Son.

Sara, don't despise your cross, the sufferings or hardships in this short life - for the cross you are carrying is a sign of your identity with Yeshua (Jesus), a reflection of His sufferings. And as you follow wholeheartedly after Him, your life will reveal the victory of His cross through the love, joy, and peace of His resurrection life which also dwells in you - a great paradox: as the end of the Hebrew alphabet, the letter "Tav", also points to - a completely new Beginning!

Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

George, Baht Rivka, Elianna & Obadiah
Denver, Colorado

The Church's One Foundation

The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ, her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word.
From heaven He came and sought her
To be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

Elect from every nation,
Yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation
One Lord, one faith, one birth.
One holy name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

The Church shall never perish!
Her dear Lord, to defend,
To guide, sustain, and cherish,
Is with her to the end.
Though there be those that hate her.
False sons within her pale,
Against both foe and traitor
She ever shall prevail.

Though with a scornful wonder
Men see her sore oppressed,
By schisms rent asunder,
By heresies distressed,
Yet saints their watch are keeping;
Their cry goes up, "How long?"
And soon the night of weeping
Shall be the morn of song.

Mid toil and tribulation
And tumult of her war
She waits the consummation
Of peace forevermore,
Til with the vision glorious
Her longing eyes are blest
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

The Daily Brief - Wednesday, November 23, 2011

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." (Ps. 100:4,5)

We will stand down until next Monday, to celebrate this wonderful holiday with family and friends. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

The Daily Brief

1. Iran Mulling Creation of 100-million-Strong Muslim Basij Army - Fars News Agency

Commander of Iran's Basij (volunteer) force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi announced on Sunday that Tehran is studying formation of a 100-million-strong Muslim world Basij force. He underlined that Basij will bravely and steadfastly continue its struggle and fight for the freedom of Quds from the occupation of Zionist regime and to release all mankind from the claws of the world arrogant powers... Earlier, Ayatollah Khamenei had also underscored the profound and vast influence of Iran's Islamic Revolution on the growing waves of Islamic awakening in the region.

- Dear Father, we marvel at the unfolding of Your Word as nations seek to gather a great show of military strength determined to eliminate Israel. Thank You for lovingly preparing Your people with the knowledge of the enemy's tactics and what is to come. Thank You Lord, that as nations prepare to accomplish this attempted destruction, we have Your promises of intervention and the safety that is only found in You!

- "No king is saved by the multitude of an army." (Psalm 33:16)"The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance of the LORD." (Proverbs 21:31) "Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear. Though war may rise against me, in this (the Lord) I will be confident."
(Psalm 27: 3)

2. Massive Hydrovolcanic Explosion Inevitable at Fukushima -The Intel Hub

...the architect of Fukushima Daiichi Reactor 3, Uehara Haruo, was interviewed in Japan. He warned that a "China Syndrome" situation is inevitable at the plant. If the fuel reaches an underground water source, it will result in the contamination of water, soil and the sea. More catastrophic, underground super-heated water will ultimately create a massive hydrovolcanic explosion. Although media in Japan and the alternative media have covered this story over the last few days, it has been uniformly ignored by the corporate media.

- LORD, the best of man's knowledge has been unsuccessful to stop this critical nuclear situation. God, we call on You to intervene and stop the dangerous progression of this reactor's meltdown! If there are actions men may take to divert this terrible disaster, we humbly ask You to reveal this knowledge speedily. We pray the world may see that You alone have the power to save mankind. In Jesus' Name!

- " For the Lord is the great God, and the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land." (Psalm 95: 3,4)

3. Nation's Densest Network of License Plate Data-Trackers Raises Privacy Concerns
- Popular Science

But one tool, automatic license plate readers, could become much more than a crime-prevention device. D.C. police maintain the country's densest network of plate readers, and keep a three-year database of license plate locations - meaning they can track where everyone's car is, all the time, whether at the grocery store, an ammunition shop or Planned Parenthood.

- Lord, we see knowledge increasing on the earth as was told by Your servant Daniel.(Daniel 12:4) It is so apparent that this knowledge may be used for good or for evil. Today, we ask You to impress upon those in authority to only use this tracking capability to expose those bent on evil. If authorities track law abiding citizens unjustly, may they be the ones who are exposed and corrected. Hide Your children under the shadow of Your wings.

- " For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me...and now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies all around me. "
(Psalm 27:5,6)

4. France, Germany to press euro zone treaty change - Reuters

"We will do everything not just to defend Europe but also to consolidate it." French President Nicholas Sarkozy has embraced a German campaign for treaty change that could give European authorities intrusive powers to intervene in the national budgets of countries sharing the euro currency.

- Lord, You are taking the wealth of nations that have ceased to honor You. The nations are losing their individual sovereignty because they disobey You. We pray for a mighty move of Your holy Spirit across the nations of Europe, that men and women may rise up to proclaim You as the Lord of their lands.

- " For the Lord says, ' By the strength of My hand I have done it, and by My wisdom, for I am prudent, and have robbed their treasuries. So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man." (Isaiah 10:13)

5. Face Recognition Makes the Leap From Sci-Fi
- New York Times

Immersive Labs, a company in Manhattan, has developed software for digital billboards using cameras to gauge the age range, sex and attention level of a passer-by. The smart signs, scheduled to roll out this month in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, deliver ads based on consumers' demographics. In other words, the system is smart enough to display, say, a Gillette ad to a male passer-by rather than an ad for Tampax.

- Lord, on this Thanksgiving Day, I thank You for recognizing each of us individually, and that our face is known to You. I thank You for watching over our lives to guide us in the way everlasting. I thank You that because of Jesus death on the Cross in our place, our name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life!

- " rejoice because your names are written in heaven!"
(Luke 10: 20)

The truth about the Thanksgiving story

In the days leading up to the first "Thanksgiving" of the Pilgrims, they had dispatched a group of ten men to "explore the bay and trade with the natives." They were guided by the English speaking Squanto, who also served as an interpreter. When the men returned, they were very impressed with the land around the bay and wished they could have settled there instead of Cape Cod. William Bradford, wrote however, "But it seems that the Lord, Who assigns to all men the bounds of their habitations, had appointed it for another use. And thus they found the Lord to be with them in all their ways, and to bless their outgoings and incomings, for which let His holy name have the praise forever, to all posterity."

This "Thanksgiving" to the Lord offered by Bradford in his history "Of Plymouth Plantation" indicates that Jesus was at the center of his thoughts about all things--even the land they were allocated by God to begin their colony. It also forebears testimony to the very positive Christian witness and relations the Pilgrims maintained with the Indians. This comment was followed immediately by Bradford's account of the harvest in October 1621. Bradford writes,"Each person had about a peck of meal a week, or now since harvest, Indian corn in that proportion; and afterwards many wrote at length about their plenty to their friends in England--not feigned but true reports."

One of those true reports is found in "Mourt's Relation" by Pilgrim Edward Winslow--the only account of the first "Thanksgiving." Winslow writes: "our harvest being gotten in, our governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a special manner rejoice together, after we had gathered the fruits of our labors...at which time amongst other recreations, we exercised our Arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and amongst the rest their greatest king Massasoyt, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted, and they went out and killed five deer, which they brought to the Plantation and bestowed on our Governor, and upon the Captain and others."

Winslow concluded, "And although it be not always so plentiful, as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want, that we often wish you partakers of our plenty." Thanks to the godly men and women who came before us, even in our decline we remain blessed more than any other nation on earth. Jeremiah 4:2 says that if God's people return to Him, "And thou shalt swear, The Lord liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in Him, and in Him shall they glory." This is a promise to the nations. So today, as should be our practice each day, may you have a Psalm 103:2 day, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLIC THANKSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;- and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; - to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

Signed: George Washington

Celebrating Thanksgiving in America

by David Barton

The tradition introduced by European Americans of Thanksgiving as a time to focus on God and His blessings dates back well over four centuries in America. For example, such thanksgivings occurred in 1541 at Palo Duro Canyon, Texas with Coronado and 1,500 of his men; in 1564 at Fort Carline, [now Jacksonville] Florida with French Huguenot (Protestant) colonists; in 1598 at El Paso, Texas with Juan de Oñate and his expedition; in 1607 at Cape Henry, Virginia with the landing of the Jamestown settlers; in 1619 at Berkeley Plantation, Virginia; (and many other such celebrations). But it is primarily from the Pilgrim's Thanksgiving celebration of 1621 that we derive the current tradition of Thanksgiving Day.

The Pilgrims set sail for America on September 6, 1620, and for two months braved the harsh elements of a storm-tossed sea. Upon disembarking at Plymouth Rock, they held a prayer service and then hastily began building shelters; however, unprepared for such a harsh New England winter, nearly half of them died before spring. Emerging from that grueling winter, the Pilgrims were surprised when an Indian named Samoset approached them and greeted them in their own language, explaining to them that he had learned English from fishermen and traders. A week later, Samoset returned with a friend named Squanto, who lived with the Pilgrims and accepted their Christian faith. Squanto taught the Pilgrims much about how to live in the New World, and he and Samoset helped forge a long-lasting peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. Pilgrim Governor William Bradford described Squanto as "a special instrument sent of God for [our] good . . . and never left [us] till he died."

Presidential Thanksgiving Day Proclamations, past and present

In late 1863, our nation was embroiled in the midst of the Civil War. The Battle of Gettysburg had been fought in July, resulting in more casualties than any other battle during the war. It was in the context of these events that President Abraham Lincoln issued his Thanksgiving Day Proclamation on October 3, 1863, urging citizens to set apart "a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens," and to "fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it . . . ."

This year, on November 16, President Obama issued a Thanksgiving Day Proclamation noting, "When President George Washington proclaimed our country's first Thanksgiving, he praised a generous and knowing God for shepherding our young Republic through its uncertain beginnings. Decades later, President Abraham Lincoln looked to the divine to protect those who had known the worst of civil war, and to restore the Nation 'to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union.'" President Obama urged Americans to "give thanks to each other and to God for the many kindnesses and comforts that grace our lives," and to "pause to recount the simple gifts that sustain us, and resolve to pay them forward in the year to come."
