1. Netanyahu planning unprecedented new construction during Trump reign - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his strongest statement in years on Monday in favor of construction in Judea and Samaria, giving hope to settler leaders that massive construction will begin when Donald Trump replaces Barack Obama as president of the United States.

Netanyahu told 60 Minutes last week that he was looking forward to working with Trump on a two-state solution.

But sources close to the prime minister said that neither Netanyahu nor the incoming president see West Bank construction as a hindrance to the creation of a Palestinian state.

1. Obama lectures Trump on executive orders - WND

Barack Obama, who once threatened, "I've got a pen and I've got a phone" to impose executive orders, is telling his soon-to-be successor Donald Trump that he really shouldn't be using executive orders that much. In fact, in an interview with NPR, he went on and on about it.

"Keep in mind though that my strong preference has always been to legislate, when I can get legislation done," Obama said. "In my first two years, I wasn't relying on executive powers because I had big majorities in the Congress and we are able to get bills passed. Even after we lost the majorities in Congress, I bent over backward consistently to try to find compromise and a legislative solution to some of the big problems that we've got," he said.

2. HB2 law: North Carolina to repeal 'bathroom bill' - BBC

North Carolina lawmakers will repeal a controversial HB2 law which limits protections offered to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Democratic Governor-elect Roy Cooper announced the repeal after Charlotte City Council voted to strike down a local law that prompted HB2. The law requires transgender people to use toilets that correspond to the sex listed on their birth certificates.

3. Genetically Modified '3-Parent Children' Exploits Women, Bioethicists Warn - Christian Post

Leading bioethicists and family advocates are criticizing the British government's decision to allow a controversial fertility treatment yielding "three-parent children," arguing the practice exploits women's bodies and turns kids into commodities.

As the Guardian (UK) reported Thursday, fertility regulators in England have officially approved clinics to apply for licenses to conduct mitochondrial replacement therapy (MRT). This experimental treatment is for "women whose faulty DNA puts them at risk of passing on devastating genetic diseases to their children." The nucleus is extracted from an egg of a mother with such faulty DNA and placed in a donor's egg that has healthy mitochondria - the energy sources within the egg cell. The egg is then fertilized with the father's sperm. Other methods of this treatment modify the mitochondria in already fertilzed embryos.

4. Obama rushes out 11th-hour regulations targeting beleaguered coal industry- Washington Times

At the eleventh hour, the Obama administration on Monday rolled out regulations to crack down on coal mining across the country, a parting shot against the beleaguered industry as the president leaves office.

The regulations, designed to protect America's streams and waterways from pollution produced during mining operations, will add significant costs to coal mining companies, many of which are struggling to operate.

5. For the Record: All news involving Syria is horrible - USA Today

A gunman shot and killed the Russian ambassador to Turkey on Monday at a photo exhibit in Turkey's capital. You may have seen graphic pictures or video of a gunman waving his pistol and shouting as Andrei Karlov lay dying. The gunman, dressed in a suit and tie, is believed to be an off-duty Turkish policeman.

Russia said it considered the shooting an act of terrorism. The U.S. State Department condemned the attack. And within minutes, Twitter was abuzz with comparisons to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an event largely credited with the start of World War I.

7. Report: Obama may still push anti-Israel resolution at UN - Times of Israel

U.S. President Barack Obama may yet allow for anti-Israel resolutions to pass at the U.N., populist-right news site Breitbart reported, citing anonymous sources. The resolutions, if passed, would increase pressure on Jerusalem and possibly even advance the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. According to the report, the Palestinians are now sending out a U.N. Security Council resolution draft determining that settlements are illegal and demanding that U.N. member states avoid offering any aid to Israel that could be tied to settlement activity. Other anti-Israel resolutions from New Zealand and Sweden are reportedly in the works. Just last week, Breitbart reported, Palestinian leaders spoke with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to convince the United States not to veto an anti-Israel U.N. resolution. (Read more)

In appreciation

Since the election, The Daily Jot has received hundreds of emails and letters. Some speak of accountability, others about wisdom. Still others about providing information that is relevant and accurate. It would be difficult to go into all of them and truly express the inspiration and encouragement that I personally receive when reading them. There are others who condemn, discourage, and viciously argue with the points of view presented in the Jot. In their strange way, they too, are encouraging because there is always room for improvement and so long as someone is reading these Jots, they may get something that changes their lives. I appreciate you and thank you for reading the Jot and taking action from it.

As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:1, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come." Just because we prevailed in stopping the Islamic Marxist revolution designed to overthrow our Republic, it doesn't mean that residue of it is gone. We are going to have to be vigilant to hold accountability-both to the new Administration and ourselves to God. I truly believe that the Lord has heard our prayers and saw how many of us repented for our nation and stood in the gap to make up the hedge. We have been spared further destruction by a corrupt and evil force that could have remained in the key leadership position over our people. Notwithstanding, these are perilous times and so are the times ahead.

As you see with how the losers responded to the election, their temper tantrums, accusations, pronouncements of racism, xenophobia, bigotry and so on, there is a mission field before us. My thought is that there is a greater mission field here in America than in many places in the world where we send missionaries. Our children and their children are part of a dark system that has for too long had its way. We, as Christians, must focus our missionary efforts right here in our homes and our communities, while still not abandoning our outreach in other countries. This generation before us is misguided and they believe strongly in their misguided ways. In speaking against hate, they themselves hate. Evil is good. Good is evil.

Pray for the strength and courage to be that good citizen of the Kingdom of God. Pray that you show by example why someone would want to have the peace and freedom you have through Christ. We have stood against the principalities in this country and have won a reprieve, but with that comes responsibility. Powered by the Lord, our actions accomplished something no one thought possible. Now for the larger and more difficult assignment: Turning Americans toward Christ a heart at a time. As Christ said in John 16:33, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." With Christ as our example, we can overcome the darkness within our nation. You are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you do and for what you will do.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

America's Reprieve

The Real Reason America Has Been Given a Reprieve

By Michael Snyder

This is one of the most important articles I have written in a long time.

The strange events of the past year and a half have befuddled and mystified many, and in this article, I am going to explain why America has been given a temporary reprieve.

If you go back to June 2015, I warned my readers that major financial problems were imminent, and sure enough, in August 2015, we witnessed the greatest financial shaking we had seen in seven years. I remember getting emails from my readers applauding me for absolutely nailing that prediction, but we were all concerned about what was coming next in September.

If you will recall, there was more buzz about September 2015 than any other month I can ever recall. That was the month of the last blood moon, the end of the Shemitah year and the Pope's visit to the United States, among other things. There was a tremendous amount of anticipation that the crisis that had begun in August 2015 would greatly accelerate in September and lead us into a period of cataclysmic global chaos. But that did not happen. Instead, U.S. financial markets calmed down and eventually recovered. There was a shift in the political realm as well, as the second half of 2015 marked the rise of Donald Trump.

During those key months, Trump miraculously built a commanding lead in the race for the Republican nomination that none of his opponents were ever able to overcome. And now that Trump has won the election, an economic surge appears to be happening unlike anything that we have witnessed in many years.

Compared to much of the rest of the world, America appears to have been blessed over the past year and a half. Our financial markets have performed extremely well, the U.S. dollar is the strongest that is has been in over a decade and jobs are coming back to the United States.

None of this was supposed to happen. In fact, our financial system was in such bad shape a year and a half ago that it was being projected that the U.S. would be on the bleeding edge of the next crisis. But instead here we stand safe, prosperous and seemingly secure.

How in the world can we explain this?

When people look back at September 2015, they always forget the most critical event. In addition to everything else that was going on that month, France had a U.N. Security Council resolution all ready to go that would have permanently divided the land of Israel, that would have given formal U.N. Security Council recognition to a Palestinian state for the very first time, and that would have given East Jerusalem to the Palestinians as the capital of their new state.

The rest of the U.N. Security Council was ready to go along with the French resolution, but there was just one country standing in the way. . . The United States has veto power on the U.N. Security Council, and so the Obama administration had the power to potentially block the resolution. After carefully considering the matter, the Obama administration decided that it was not the time for such a resolution, and so France never submitted it for a vote.

Just about everything else Barack Obama did throughout his entire presidency was bad, but in this instance, he got something completely right. The decision whether or not to divide the land of Israel was in his hands, and he made the right call.

Once this decision was made, it was almost as if someone hit a pause button. None of the bad things people were forecasting ending up happening, and since that decision, America has been blessed compared to the rest of the world.

And this is perfectly consistent with what God said that He would do. Starting in Genesis 12 and continuing all throughout the Scriptures, God promises to bless those that bless Israel and to curse those that curse Israel.

In this case, Barack Obama blessed Israel by preventing the U.N. Security Council from dividing the land, and so we were blessed as a result. . .

Today, 137 nations have already recognized a Palestinian state. The holdouts are mostly in North America and Europe. France and most of the rest of Europe have been eager and ready to recognize a Palestinian state for quite a while now, but they don't really want to move forward without the United States. And of course they can't officially do anything at the UN Security Council without U.S. approval.
Barack Obama had been hoping to achieve something through direct negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians, but those totally broke down and there is no hope that there will be any new negotiations anytime soon.

So Barack Obama knows that his only shot at leaving a legacy in the Middle East is at the United Nations, and earlier this year he said a U.N. Security Council resolution that would recognize a Palestinian state was "on the table" for the very first time.

. . . now time is running out for Obama, because his term is scheduled to end on January 20. The advocates of a two-state solution are becoming increasingly desperate, because they know Donald Trump has already promised not to support a U.N. Security Council resolution that would divide the land of Israel. They know if something is going to be done, it has to be done now.

A U.N. Security Council resolution would be legally binding on both the Israelis and the Palestinians, and it would be something Donald Trump would not be able to undo. Another vote of the U.N. Security Council would be required to revoke a resolution once it has been passed, and the votes would not be there to do that.

So the next month is absolutely critical. The U.N. Security Council still has time to take action while Obama is still in office, and we know such a move is actively being considered.

If we can get to January 20 and the land of Israel has not been divided by the U.N. Security Council and Donald Trump successfully takes office, perhaps our reprieve will be extended for a while.

But if Barack Obama foolishly allows the land of Israel to be divided at the U.N. Security Council before January 20, the pause button will be unpaused, our blessing will be turned into a curse and all hell will break loose in America.

Merry Christmas

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

"Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you shall come for Me One who will be Ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." (Micah 5:2)

Lyrics

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above, While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love. O morning stars together, proclaim the holy birth, And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth!

How silently, how silently, the wondrous Gift is giv'n; So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His Heav'n. No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.

Where children pure and happy pray to the blessèd Child, Where misery cries out to Thee, Son of the mother mild; Where charity stands watching and faith holds wide the door, The dark night wakes, the glory breaks, and Christmas comes once more.

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!

Signs and Wonders

Tonight will be the darkest night of the past 500 years

[Editor's note: this actually occurred last night, but is worth noting!]
Thanks to a lunar eclipse on the longest night of the year, tonight we'll be experiencing the longest, darkest night in a very long time. It's been nearly 500 years since the last solstice lunar eclipse.
A total lunar eclipse has five distinct stages. It begins when the Moon first enters the penumbra, or pale outer fringe, of Earth's shadow. But this event is unobservable; the shading in the outer part of the penumbra is extremely slight. Not until the Moon's leading edge is about halfway across the penumbra does the first slight dimming become detectable to the eye. (Source: Sky and Telescope) Go here.
