The Daily Brief - Wednesday, March 31, 2010

In that day you will say: "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Mark 11:9)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Signing health bill, Obama touts student loan fix - Washington Times

President Obama put the finishing touches on his top policy priority Tuesday, signing the package of legislative fixes to the already-passed health care bill, but he immediately shifted the spotlight to an overhaul of the nation's student loan industry also included in the new law.

- God, we call out to You that the mighty forces of heaven will bear down upon the staff of this broken reed, whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is the spirit of Pharaoh to all that trust in him. Tear out the pages of this health care bill, pull apart the pages into small fragments, turn it into sawdust before the eyes of the world and they see it fall to the ground as a mound of sand. In Jesus Name.

- "Thus says the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again." (Jeremiah 19:11)

2. Obama to Unveil Offshore Oil Drilling Plans - Fox News

In a reversal of a long-standing ban on most offshore drilling, the president is allowing oil drilling 50 miles off Virginia's shorelines, and is allowing an expansion in Alaska's Cook Inlet to go forward.

- God, we call forth angels to hover over the sea around Virginia's shorelines and move the oil reserves inland that no foreign power be given the right to harvest oil reserves that You have provided for America. They will drill dry wells, dry holes, 50 miles off our shorelines, and You will bless the drilling in Alaska to be used by our country. In Jesus Name.

- "And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean." "Thus says the Lord God; he that hears, let him hear; and he that forbears, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house." (Ezekiel 3:27, 45:23)

3. A Battered Rhode Island Watches as the Water Rises - ABC News

A record-shattering rainstorm hammered the Northeast on Tuesday, delivering widespread flooding for the second time this month and unleashing particular havoc in Rhode Island, a tiny coastal state already beleaguered by a sagging economy and backbreaking unemployment rate.

- Father, we pray that a spirit of repentance will come upon all the Northeast and the people will cry out to God. Now is the time that their hearts make a covenant with the Lord God. May they not be negligent in humbly seeking the Lord for the right way for them, their little ones, and all their substance. In Jesus Name.

- "Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. O God, You know my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from You. Let not those that seek You be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel." (Psalm 69:1-3, 5)

4. Pakistan Army: 25 Militants Killed in Clash - Fox News

The Pakistan army says 6 soldiers and 25 militants have been killed in fighting triggered by an insurgent attack on a checkpoint close to the Afghan border.

- God, we ask that You lay Your axe to the root of all bitterness and hatred, all fighting spirits, all terrorist spirits that have possessed those given to war in Pakistan, and destroy all this evil from 3,000 years back to the present. We call forth the blood of Jesus to encircle and heal all the land of Pakistan and close off the ruling spirits that have torn this country apart. We ask that You send warring angels to destroy that which will not yield to the delivering power of God. Save Pakistan and its people. In Jesus Name.

- "Thus says the Lord, I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron." (Isaiah 45:2)

5. Sarkozy 'condemns Israeli construction in East Jerusalem' - Ha'aretz

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday said his country stands with the United States in condemning Israeli settlement activity in East Jerusalem.

- Father, we ask that You return the heart of America back to stand with Israel and the Jewish people. Resist the powers that would attempt to control Israel. For the Lord God Almighty stands with Israel and defends them and will destroy all nations who stretch out their hand against them. Drop down, oh heavens from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness and bring forth salvation and call forth deliverance to Your people Israel. In Jesus Name.

- "Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for You are My servant: I have formed You: You are My servant: O Israel, You shall not be forgotten of Me. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and as a cloud, your sins: return unto Me; for I have redeemed You," says God. (Isaiah 44:21-22)

6. Biblical plagues really happened say scientists - London Telegraph

The Biblical plagues that devastated Ancient Egypt in the Old Testament were the result of global warming and a volcanic eruption, scientists have claimed.

- God, the plagues that devastated Egypt were the result of Pharaoh holding as slaves all the Hebrew nation and God's judgment fell. May the truth of the Word of God be taught and the words of man drop to the ground and die. The message from God to Pharaoh after every plague was "Let My people go." May the kings of today hear the blaring words of God, "Let My people go," and deliver your people out of the irons of slavery and break the necks of the evil ones. In Jesus Name.

- "By the strength of hand the Lord brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:" (Exodus 13:14)

1. Iran Encourages Palestinian Reconciliation to Ignite a Third Intifada - Asharq Alawsat

What the Lebanese majority can do best is to continue to reject proposals that come from abroad through domestic voices in the form of threats, charges, and accusation of treachery. Their aim is to impose the Hezbollah resistance as a substitute for, first, the Lebanese people's will and, second, for the Lebanese state, which is tired and getting old, and for the army and security forces.

2. Obama: Netanyahu understands he must take some bold steps - Ha'aretz

U.S. President Barack Obama has said he thinks Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu understands that he will have to "take some bold steps" when it comes to advancing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, in an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday.

3. US not pushing E. Jerusalem resolution - Jerusalem Post

No anti-Israel resolution on east Jerusalem was in the works at the UN Security Council, senior officials in Washington were quoted Tuesday as saying, amid reports that the US would not veto such a resolution if it were brought to the UN body.

4. Obama sends Passover message to Jews - Ynet News

US President Barack Obama on Monday published a greeting to the Jewish world in general and to Israel in particular, ahead of the Passover Seder. After the one of the most strained weeks in Israel-US ties in years, Obama offered warm words to the Jewish people, some even in Hebrew.

Feds bust cabbie tied to Al-Qaida links

Federal authorities say they've unearthed a Chicago taxi driver's plot to send money to al-Qaida as part of an undercover investigation that involved secretly recording the man in his own cab as recently as two weeks ago. Raja Lahrasib Khan, a taxi driver who claimed he had ties to Ilyas Kashmiri, an alleged terrorist leader in Pakistan, was arrested Friday. Khan, 56, a Pakistan native, also allegedly discussed with an associate attacking a stadium in the United States this summer. Authorities said, though, that there was no imminent danger. On March 11, Khan allegedly told an associate that in August, bags containing remote-controlled bombs could be put in several locations at a "large stadium" and then "boom, boom, boom, boom," according to court records. Islamville community weathers suspicions

On most days, long before dawn, Haneef Shabazz gets up twice to pray. Shabazz gathers to remember God with a handful of longtime friends and neighbors on a 75-acre spread of land they call Islamville, about 10 miles southeast of Dover, before driving an hour and a half to Nashville to start his workday. Shabazz and a few friends moved to Dover in the late 1980s to create a spiritual community where they could practice a mystical form of Islam called Sufism in peace and quiet, and raise their children away from the temptations of modern culture. But the dream of creating a life shaped by prayer has not come easily. Because they live together, guard their privacy and practice an unfamiliar faith, residents of Islamville have been viewed with suspicion. (Tennessean) Read more.

Freed Guantanamo Inmate Likely With Taliban, U.S. Official Says

Abdul Hafiz, a terror suspect released from the Guantanamo Bay prison last December, likely has joined the Taliban in Afghanistan, a U.S. counterterrorism official said. If true, it would be the first known case of a former detainee at the facility in Cuba enlisting with a terrorist group after being released by President Barack Obama's administration. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Hafiz's role in the Taliban hasn't been determined. And an administration official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said the intelligence on Hafiz's status remains unclear and incomplete. The likelihood that Hafiz is with the Taliban was first reported by the Long War Journal, a Mount Laurel, New Jersey- based publication that reports on intelligence matters. (Bloomberg) Read more.

'Day of Truth' Counters Homosexual Agenda

Students across the country will offer redemptive truth to counter the gay agenda on April 15.

The sixth annual Day of Truth is an initiative, sponsored by Exodus International, which takes place one day before the Day of Silence -- sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Candi Cushman, education analyst with Focus on the Family, said the Day of Silence "turns participants into political lobbyists for GLSEN's adult-driven agenda."

"Evidence of a political agenda is clear when you look at the Day of Silence materials," Cushman said. "The group encourages students to use the Day of Silence as a 'tool' to get things like a 'queer-friendly prom', homosexual-themed library books and teacher training. They also encourage teachers to feature lesbian, gay and bisexual materials in the classroom."

This year's theme for the Day of Truth is "Get the Conservation Started." Students can wear T-shirts and pass out cards with the message: "People with differing, even opposing, viewpoints can freely exchange ideas and respectfully listen to each other. It's time for an honest conversation about the biblical truth for sexuality. Let's get the conversation started!" (CitizenLink)

The Daily Brief - Tuesday, March 30, 2010

In that day you will say: "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Mark 11:9)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Clinton: China on Board with Iran Sanctions - Ynet News

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that China agrees Iran must not become a nuclear weapons power and that the fellow Security Council member will play a role in forging sanctions against the Islamic republic at the United Nations. The US is leading the charge to penalize Iran for refusing to prove that its nuclear ambitions are peaceful. China is a permanent member of the Security Council and can block new sanctions with a veto, so its support for sanctions will be crucial.

• Lord, let China and Turkey cooperate with other nations against Iran. We pray the world nations will see the danger of not standing together against Iran to stop Iran's objective - to be a nuclear weapons power.

If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25) And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. (Mark 3:24, 25)

2. G8 to Demand 'Strong Steps' Over Iran Nukes - Ha'aretz

Foreign ministers from the Group of Eight leading industrial nations will call on the international community to take "appropriate and strong steps" to show its resolve over Iran's nuclear activities. The meeting this week brings together the foreign ministers from the Group of Eight industrialized countries, which includes the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Italy and Russia.

• Lord, we pray for each of these nations to stand united with one vision - to rid Iran of having the ability to get nuclear weapons. Cause so much confusion and division in Iran that they will not succeed. Give them new leaders!

During the last watch of the night the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. (Exodus 14:24)

3. Saudis Fund Balkan Muslims Spreading Hate of the West - London Times

Saudi Arabia is pouring hundreds of millions of pounds into Islamist groups in the Balkans, some of which spread hatred of the West and recruit fighters for jihad in Afghanistan. Macedonia's law enforcement agencies warn that the European Union and America have failed to recognize the growing problem of Islamic extremism in the Balkans.

Classified documents seen by The Sunday Times reveal that Macedonian officials are also investigating a number of Islamic charities, some in Saudi Arabia, which are active throughout the Balkans and are suspected of spreading extremism and laundering money for terrorist organizations.

• Heavenly Father, we pray that nations and terrorists which are fueling hatred of the west in the Middle East will not succeed. Let their plans of laundering money and funneling aid to terrorist be stopped immediately and Muslims turn away from listening and aiding them. Let them aid the Western nations instead.

And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father's household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. (Joshua 6:25)

4. Russia: Moscow Attack May be Linked to Afghanistan Militias - Ha'aretz

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said militants operating on the Afghan-Pakistan border may have helped organize suicide bomb attacks that killed 38 in Moscow on Monday, Interfax news agency reported on Monday. FSB director Alexander Bortnikov said that in both cases the bombs were packed with metal nuts and bolts meant to increase the destructive nature of the blast.

The Moscow subway system is one of the world's busiest, carrying around 7 million passengers on an average workday, and is a key element in running the sprawling and traffic-choked city.

• Lord, we bind these terrorists from being able to assemble and to succeed in their plans to destroy nations. We pray confusion and dissension in their camp.

They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. (Isaiah 2:4)

5. Scenarios: Global Impact if Israel Strikes Iran - Reuters

If Israel were to strike Iran over its nuclear activities, markets would be watching one thing only - Iran's response. The scale of that response could be the difference between a brief spike in oil prices and pushing the world back to economic crisis. If Hezbollah strikes Israel, Israel will retaliate in a way that quickly expands the conflict. Israel has threatened to hold the governments of Lebanon and Syria responsible for any Hezbollah attacks.

• Heavenly Father, we pray for the safety of Israel. Let every wicked plan to destroy her be turned into nothing and her enemies scattered. We bless the nation of Israel!

When the wicked spring up like grass, and when all the workers of iniquity flourish, It is that they may be destroyed forever . . . for behold, Your enemies, O Lord, for behold, Your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. (Psalm 92: 7, 9)

6. US, Russia to Sign New Arms Pact April 8 - VOA

"It will limit the number of strategic nuclear delivery vehicles to somewhere below 800 on each side. The treaty will also set a new lower limit for the number of strategic deployed nuclear warheads down to 1,550 on each side, Isaacs said. "Currently, the United States deploys about 2,100 strategic warheads - Russia somewhere above 2,200. So this new START treaty would accomplish a 25 to 30 percent reduction in the number of deployed strategic warheads on each side," he added.

• Heavenly Father - we pray that all these decisions concerning our defense will be guided by your spirit and wisdom. Let nothing be agreed upon that will be harmful to our nation.

Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle . . . my shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me. (Psalm 144:1, 2)

7. Obama Resigned to Nuclear Iran - Jerusalem Post

Former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton expressed concern Sunday that Washington was coming to terms with a nuclear Iran.

"I very much worry the [Hussein] Obama administration is willing to accept a nuclear Iran, that's why there's this extraordinary pressure on Israel not to attack in Iran," Bolton told Army Radio.

• Lord we pray for this Administration to realize the dangers of accepting a nuclear Iran. Let them no longer pressure Israel but instead work strongly with other nations against Iran and their plans for nuclear weapons.

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

B. Iran Suspected of Planning More Nuclear Sites - Fox News

Western intelligence agencies and U.N. inspectors suspect Iran is planning to build more nuclear sites despite international demands that it open up its operations for inspection, The New York Times reported. On Saturday, the head of the Arab League urged the 22-nation bloc to engage Iran directly over concerns about its growing influence in the region and its disputed nuclear program.

It suggests that Arab nations are increasingly less likely to align with the U.S. strategy on Iran if they feel they are getting nothing in return in Mideast peace efforts.

• Heavenly Father , let everything hidden be revealed. Take the blinders off of nations that will not stand strong and united against these plans of Iran and other nations seeking nuclear weapons. Remove Iran's tyrants.

All her carved images shall be beaten to pieces, and all her pay as a harlot shall be burned with the fire; all her idols I will lay desolate, for she gathered it from the pay of a harlot, and they shall return to the pay of a harlot." (Micah 1:7)

Seeking to Destroy the Law and Those Who Keep It

There is a lot in the news lately about Christians and Christian groups. They are disparaged by this White House and this Administration. Family Research Council's Tony Perkins wrote in a column saying that the man who occupies the Oval Office has made some very unusual appointments during Congressional recess. Presidents often make recess appointments because they have been held up by Congress for various reasons. One such appointment, Perkins notes, is that of lesbian activist Chai Feldblum. Feldblum was appointed to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, a controversial appointment because of her radical belief that homosexuality trumps religious rights.

On May 15, 2006, the Weekly Standard wrote: "Georgetown law professor Chai Feldblum believes this sincerely and with passion, and clearly (as she reminds me) against the vast majority of opinion of her own [lesbian] community. And yet when push comes to shove, when religious liberty and sexual liberty conflict, she admits, 'I'm having a hard time coming up with any case in which religious liberty should win.'" Using an example where a Christian day care center might refuse to accept a child from homosexual "parents," Feldblum told the Washington Blade, "What it comes down to is a clash of constitutional rights. The law is developing in this area and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds."

These are the type of people who are holding positions throughout this Administration. They are those who believe that the law is a developing thing. They are believers in true Democracy. True Democracy is the rule of might--the majority or the perceived majority rules over the people. They believe that if they have the power, the law is what they make it. We see this in almost all of this Administration's dealings from replacing Chief Executive Officers of major auto or banking corporations with political appointees to defying the very supreme law of the land, the Constitution, by nationalizing the entire health care industry.

The United States is a Constitutional Republic as ruled by law with representatives who are chosen to ensure that the rights of the citizens are protected by the law. Christians, in particular, are a target because they understand the moral authority of the law as placed by God in their hearts. Therefore, Christians are an obstacle to the humanist immorality that is foundational to Democracy and this Administration's world view. God's laws are absolute and unchanging. Christ said in Matthew 5:17, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." These usurpers, however, HAVE come to destroy the law and those who would stand for it.

Obama Ignores Senate

Saturday, Obama made 15 recess appointments. There's nothing particularly unusual about recess appointments. George W. Bush made nearly 180 such appointments during his two terms. Recess appointments allow presidents to temporarily fill government positions and bypass the Senate confirmation process for one year. What is unusual in this case are the people Obama appointed to key government positions.

Obama appointed Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Boards, which oversees union elections and settles disputes between businesses and unions. Becker is not an impartial judge - he's the associate general counsel of the SIEU. In other words, he's an advocate for one of the most aggressive, pro-Obama, ACORN-connected unions in the country. Beyond that, he's a committed leftwing ideologue.

As a former UCLA professor, Becker has written extensively on labor issues, including the notion that Big Labor's policy objectives can "be achieved with almost no alteration of the statutory framework." When judges try to impose their values on the law we call it judicial activism. Becker is a "regulatory activist" who intends to impose card check from his perch at the National Labor Relations Board -- even if Congress fails to pass it.

Becker is so radical that two Democrats voted to filibuster his nomination in February. Last week all 41 Republican senators wrote a letter to President Obama urging against the use of a recess appointment for Becker, especially given the bi-partisan opposition to his nomination.

In addition to Becker, Obama also used a recess appointment to put Georgetown University Law Professor Chai R. Feldblum on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In announcing Feldblum's nomination, the White House highlighted her work as an ACLU lawyer and noted that she "has also worked on advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights and has been a leading expert on the Employment Nondiscrimination Act."

In fact, Professor Feldblum is so "progressive" that in 2006 she signed a manifesto entitled "Beyond Marriage." Among other things, this radical statement advocated, "Legal recognition for a wide range of relationships, households and families - regardless of kinship or conjugal status," including "Households in which there is more than one conjugal partner." In other words, Feldblum was advocating for legal recognition of polygamy.

These appointments are relevant because "personnel is policy." There should be no doubt in anyone's mind how and why Becker and Feldblum got their appointments. Nor should there be any doubt about the agendas and values they will advance in Barack Obama's Administration. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; 3/29/10)

The Smear Continues

While the liberal media continues to lecture conservatives about civility, news broke today that the FBI arrested a Pennsylvania man, Norman Leboon, for making an online death threat against House Republican Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia. Last week, Leboon posted a profanity-laced rant against the conservative Jewish congressman on YouTube. In his diatribe, Leboon, who claims to be a Muslim convert, threatened to kill Cantor and his family. It turns out that Norman Leboon also donated $505 to Hussein Obama's presidential campaign.

The man appears to be a complete loon who has made many threats, so I won't try to make him a "poster boy" for the Left. But, if the situation were reversed - if a Tea Party member who donated to John McCain's campaign had been arrested for threatening to assassinate a Democrat leader - it would be headline news for days. There would be calls for the GOP to renounce and condemn the Tea Party. There would be much ink spent on column after column about the extremism on the Right. And, of course, all of it would be due to obvious racism.

Over the weekend, New York Times columnist Frank Rich again picked up the canard that conservative opposition to healthcare "reform" is based on some "ism" or phobia. Rich wrote:

"If Obama's first legislative priority had been immigration or financial reform or climate change, we would have seen the same trajectory. The conjunction of a black president and a female speaker of the House - topped off by a wise Latina on the Supreme Court and a powerful gay Congressional committee chairman - would sow fears of disenfranchisement among a dwindling and threatened minority in the country no matter what policies were in play."

In one sentence, Rich dismissed the concerns of nearly half the country (based on the latest polls) for its alleged racism, sexism, xenophobia and homophobia. Once again, the "tolerant" Left is proving just how intolerant it can be.

So, I ask Rich this simple question: If a future black president and a female future Speaker of the House and a wise Latina on the Supreme Court were pushing for lower taxes, smaller government, a strong national defense and adherence to our Constitution, does he really think that the streets would be filled with Tea Party members demonstrating in opposition? Of course not! They might be in the streets cheering, but I suspect Rich would still find something to complain about. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; 3-30-10)

The Other Side of Tolerance

In the final hours of the health care debate, much was made over insults which were hurled at those members of Congress responsible for the massive government takeover. There was a clear effort to make the Democratic members, who supported Obamas health care takeover, seem like "victims" who were taking principled stances for the people. The media was also quick to report word from Democratic leaders that 10 of their members had been victims of threats and acts of vandalism, which are inappropriate and have no place in civil discourse.

Meanwhile, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and his family were the targets of a death threat for which a Philadelphia man was arrested on Monday. While the media reported the threat against Rep. Cantor, they didn't point out that the suspect, Norman Leboon, claimed on his YouTube website that he is the "Messiah" of "gays and lesbians" and asks his homosexual "children" to leave the armed forces so that he might "smite" those remaining. This was not an insignificant omission. There is a clear pattern of intimidation that comes from many homosexual activists.

In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court will take up the issue next month in a case that springs from the Washington State ballot measure to protect marriage. As they have in Massachusetts, California and elsewhere, homosexual activists in Washington State resorted to civic terrorism to intimidate those who signed the ballot measure. The question in this case is whether or not those who sign can do so without their names being publicly released. The evidence is mounting that those who are trumpeting the call for tolerance, have little tolerance for those they disagree with. (Family Research Council)

Protect the Military, Keep the Law

Marine Commandant General James Conway is raising significant morale concerns should Congress decide to overturn the current law on homosexuals in the military. In an interview last week with Military.com, Conway explained, "We want to continue [two-person rooms], but I would not ask our Marines to live with someone who is homosexual if we can possibly avoid it. And to me that means we have to build BEQs [bachelor enlisted quarters] and have single rooms." As a veteran of the Marine Corps, I understand the general's view because I know very well the lack of privacy that exists within the military environment.

Critics are comparing the general's concerns to past racial segregation, but there are clear differences between racial classes and sexuality. As General Colin Powell said in 1992, comparing skin color--a "benign, non-behavioral characteristic"--with sexual preference "is a convenient but invalid statement." The military doesn't require men and women to shower or to sleep together because the resulting sexual tension would undermine cohesion and morale. Respecting heterosexuals' need for privacy with regard to sharing quarters with homosexuals is no different.
The general's comments underscore current law, which says homosexuality is incompatible with military service. Opening the military to homosexuals will hamper recruiting efforts, threaten the religious speech and conscience rights of military chaplains, and undermine unit cohesion and morale. If you haven't already done so, please sign our petition and join thousands of others in urging Congress to protect our military, not use it to advance a radical sexual agenda. (Family Research Council)

Missouri Legislators Call for Prayer

As the economic worries and struggles gripping our nation persist, there is also a growing openness among many segments of society to seek God's help and provision. The National Prayer Center recently received word of this joyous dynamic taking place in a somewhat surprising place: the Missouri State Legislature. Rev. Paul Meinsen, Director of Capitol Commission Missouri (a group that ministers through prayer and Bible study in state capitols), gave this powerful testimony:
Last week (week of March 1) several Christian leaders met with Key Leaders from both Chambers of the Missouri legislature -- House of Representatives and Senate -- meeting individually with leaders of both political parties. These elected officials all requested prayer as they are desperate for answers as how to balance the budget. They are at the "end of themselves." Because of the state's budget shortfall, they report that the pending budget cuts will cause pain to many of our Missouri citizens. They want to be responsible in balancing the budget, avoiding unnecessary debt that is severely threatening many states. At the same time they hope to avoid the painful cuts that they are now facing in currently preparing the state's budget.

These leaders asked Bob Loggins, Prayer Specialist of the Mo. Baptist Convention, and me as the Midwest National Area Leader for National Day of Prayer to meet with them. They requested a proposal wanting us to mobilize prayer throughout Missouri, which will include 40 Days of Prayer beginning on Monday, March 29.

These leaders asked Bob Loggins, Prayer Specialist of the Mo. Baptist Convention, and me as the Midwest National Area Leader for National Day of Prayer to meet with them. They requested a proposal (which is attached), wanting us to mobilize prayer throughout Missouri, which will include 40 Days of Prayer beginning on Monday, March 29.

Remarkable efforts are being made to avoid this great prayer focus being a political event! Indeed this great prayer focus is a bipartisan effort with united support from legislative leaders of both political parties. They want to avoid doing anything - as do we -- that would be divisive or distracting to this thrust of seeking the living God for solutions. They want it that way because they are seeking God -and want us to seek God -- for help, carrying no other agenda.

The plan is to be highlighted by a noon time of prayer (12:00 - 1:30 PM) in the rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol Building in Jefferson City on Monday, March 29th. We have asked Franklin or his son Will Graham to speak and are waiting to see if they are available. The March 29th date is the "kickoff" for the 40 Days of Fasting and Prayer.

The National Prayer Center encourages you to be in prayer for your state leaders as well, as they grapple with difficult financial choices in extremely trying circumstances. Let us seek God that they receive His wisdom and His grace, both in their decisions and in their personal lives. (National Prayer Center) Read more.

The Daily Brief - Monday, March 29, 2010

In that day you will say: "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Mark 11:9)

A note to our readers:

Both the Senate and the House have now returned home for their Spring District Work Period. They will remain in their home districts for two weeks.

This is an excellent time to visit your own member of Congress or senator to express your views on issues that are important to you.

Our next edition of On Capitol Hill This Week will be published on Monday, April 12th.

Today's Daily Brief

1. Homicide Bombers Kill 38 on Moscow Subway - AP

The head of Russia's main security agency said preliminary investigation places the blame on rebels from the restive Caucasus region that includes Chechnya. Two female homicide bombers blew themselves up on Moscow's subway system as it was jam-packed with rush-hour passengers Monday, killing at least 38 people and wounding 102, officials said.

- Lift up those who are grieving tonight in the aftermath of this slaughter. May all be stirred to find strength, comfort and salvation in Christ; and may the Russian authorities be graced to discover who is behind these attacks, and how to prevent further strikes. Amen.

- "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

2. US cities step up subway security after Moscow bombs - AFP

US transit systems stepped up security on Monday after two apparent suicide bombings in Moscow's underground train system that killed at least 37 people.

- Pray as New York, Washington and other cities are increasing subway security measures after the Moscow bombings today.

- "He will give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." (Psalm 91:11)

3. Alarm on the Border - Fox News

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is under pressure to beef up border security in the Southwest after Arizona rancher is killed on his own property.

- Pray that the Lord would grant His wisdom to the officials of Homeland Security as they seek to strengthen our southern border and to protect our citizens from further attacks.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

4. Supreme Court may weigh coverage mandate - Washington Times

The same Supreme Court justices whom Obama blasted during his State of the Union address this year may ultimately decide the fate of his crowning achievement as more than a dozen states have called on the courts to strike down the health insurance mandate of Democrats' health care overhaul - a move that would threaten the entire law.

- Lift up urgent prayer over this breaking news. In days past, the Supreme Court has weighed other bills that have been signed into law (for example: the campaign finance reform law), and found them to be null and void. Pray that the Supreme Court will hear a case or cases related to the president's illegal, unconstitutional health care plan, and that justice will be done.

- "But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him." (Psalm 4:3)

5. Obama announces 15 recess appointments, scolds GOP - AP

Fed up with waiting, Obama announced Saturday he would bypass a vacationing Senate and name 15 people to key administration jobs, wielding for the first time the blunt political tool known as the recess appointment.

- Pray that the LORD will put the brakes on this Pharoah, who seems now bent on doing his own will in all matters. On this night of Passover, PRAY!

- Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son,[b] lest He[c] be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Psalm 2:10-12)

6. Obama Makes Labor Board Appointment During Recess Over GOP Objections - Fox News

Despite intense Republican objections, Obama on Saturday used recess appointments to fill 15 administration posts without Senate confirmation, including Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Becker's nomination was rejected by the Senate last month, 52-43. Read more.

- This is unconscionable. Recess appointments are used to fill seats that are VACANT; not to overrule a Senate vote on a nominee to fill a postiion! This act of Mr. Obama goes against the Rule of Law and must be challenged . . .first in prayer; then in the courts. So, please pray that justice be rendered in this matter. Amen.

- "Vengeance is Mine; I will repay," says the Lord. (Rom. 12:19)

7. Christian militia group members arrested by FBI - London Telegraph

The raids took place in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio over the weekend and were reportedly carried out by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force.

- As we continue to pray for "all in authority," pray that the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force use wisdom and restraint in this case.

- I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (I Timothy 2:1,2)

8. Abortion Ban Proposal to Be On Colo. Ballot - NewsMax

A proposal to ban abortion in Colorado will be on state ballots this fall.

- "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"For ever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven." (Psalm 119:89)

1. Israel Fears Obama Heading for Imposed Mideast Settlement - (Ha'aretz)

Obama's demands during his meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu last Tuesday point to an intention to impose a permanent settlement on Israel and the Palestinians in less than two years, political sources in Jerusalem say. Israeli officials view the demands that Obama made at the White House as the tip of the iceberg under which lies a dramatic change in U.S. policy toward Israel. Of ten demands posed by Obama, four deal with Jerusalem: opening a Palestinian commercial interests office in east Jerusalem, an end to the razing of structures in Palestinian neighborhoods in the capital, stopping construction in Jewish neighborhoods in east Jerusalem, and not building in the neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo. The fact that the White House and State Department have been in contact with Israel's European allies, first and foremost Germany, is seen as part of an effort to isolate Israel and put enormous political pressure on it.

2. Fierce Debate on Israel Underway Inside Obama Administration - (Politico)

Since Netanyahu's tense visit to the White House last week, an intense debate inside the Obama administration about how to proceed has grown more heated. Sources say within the inter-agency process, White House Middle East strategist Dennis Ross is staking out a position that Washington needs to be sensitive to Netanyahu's domestic political constraints including over the issue of building in east Jerusalem in order to not raise new Arab demands, while other officials including some aligned with Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell are arguing Washington needs to hold firm in pressing Netanyahu for written commitments.

3. Report: U.S. "May Not Veto UN Resolution on Jerusalem" - (BBC News)

The U.S. is considering abstaining from a possible UN Security Council resolution against Israeli settlements in east Jerusalem. The possibility surfaced at talks in Paris last week between a senior U.S. official and Qatar's foreign minister. The official said the U.S. would "seriously consider abstaining" if the issue of Israeli settlements was put to the vote. Nearly half a million Jews live in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

White House Uses Blackmail Diplomacy in becoming Negotiator for Palestinian State

The United States seems to have changed sides in the Middle East debate. The rift between the White House and the Israeli government over the building of homes in East Jerusalem is just the public manifestation of many more problematic and deeply concerning actions that US leadership has fomented in the past year. The Netanyahu Administration of Israel apparently has been bearing the weight of these dramatic policy shifts by internally shifting its own strategy toward going it alone in the Middle East as the White House has diplomatically taken a stand to blackmail Israel into accepting a Palestinian state defined by pre-1967 borders.

Case in point is a very disturbing article written by Avi Yellin for the Israel National News website. Yellin writes that The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs revealed in a recently updated report that the "government of Israel has been concealing a change in arms policy by the United States against the Jewish State." Yellin says that the Netanyahu government has "refrained from protesting massive American weapons sales to Arab states in the region, an initiative that has eroded Israel's military edge over its neighbors." Conversely, the Institute reports that the US Administration has refused approval of any major weapons sales to the Israeli government.
This policy shift began with the previous Bush Administration, but is being executed by the current Administration with zeal. Yellin reports that "Government sources asserted that the refusal represents a new White House policy to link arms sales to the Jewish state with the Netanyahu government's willingness to submit on Washington's demands that Israel surrender Judea, Samaria and most of Jerusalem to the American-backed Palestinian Authority." The World Tribune reported March 18 that the White House ordered a shipment of smart bunker-buster bombs destined for Israel to be diverted to a US military base in the Indian Ocean. This was in response to the spat over the Jerusalem settlements.

These are the very political results of "Blackmail Diplomacy" announced by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel at the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee meeting on May 5, 2009. Emanuel said, "Israel now faces a moment of truth--it can either acquiesce to international demands and in return have its most serious threats dealt with, or maintain the status quo and have those threats persist." Emanuel was saying that the White House would ignore Iran's nuclear threat, if Israel did not buckle to demands over a Palestinian state. Zechariah 12:9 says, "I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." America negotiating on behalf of terrorists? The consequences will be severe.

PASSOVER BEGINS TONIGHT

Prayer Requests for Passover from Intercessors for Israel

"I AM the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD your GOD!" (Numbers 15:41)

Tonight Jewish people throughout the world, will sit down with families and friends and celebrate the biblical feast of Passover. Since the central figure in the original Passover, in Exodus 12, is the Lamb, identified as the Passover in that chapter (12:6, 11,21,27), and since Yeshua is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29), we began by praying for Israel's salvation.

o Blessed is LORD; He daily bears burdens for us, the God of our salvation. Selah. Our God is the God of salvation; and to LORD are the issues of death. (Psalms 68:19-20)

o Lord Yeshua, the rabbis have said that since our initial deliverance was in the month of Nissan, this month of Passover, so our Deliverer, the Messiah, will also appear to Israel during this month. Therefore, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to multitudes of Jews this very month - for Your holy name's sake.

o Save unsaved loved ones of Messianic Jews. Believe on the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, and you shall be saved, and your household. (Acts 16:31)

o Open up the eyes of Orthodox Jews at the breaking of the unleavened bread [Matzah] during the Passover meal [seder].

It happened as [Yeshua] reclined with [the two disciples whom He had met on the road to Emmaus], taking the bread, He blessed God for it, and breaking it, He gave to them. Their eyes were opened, and they knew Him. (Luke 24:30-31)

o Abba, please reveal Yeshua, the true Messiah, to some zealous anti-missionaries. Make them modern Pauls.

o We continue to lift up before You for salvation all of the Holocaust survivors. Have mercy on these who have already gone through hell on earth. In Your mercy, we ask this.

o Break into the New Age and Liberal and Humanistic seders that many secular Jews will be attending. Reveal to them that without You - there would be no Jews or Passover.

o Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations. Cry out, give praise and say, O LORD, save Your people, the remnant of Israel. (Jeremiah 31:7b) [Source: Intercessors for Israel]

Modern-day voice offering 'heaven's bailout'

Activist carries biblical message to White House gates

A lone woman evangelist has been positioning herself in front of the White House gates almost daily for more than two years to deliver the message to the United States that heaven is offering a "bailout" far greater than dollars.

The voice belongs to Theresa Salcedo Cao, whose work has kept her in Washington -
"I have a standard location literally right in front of the White House" - encouraging people to follow the Bible to see God's miracles on earth and its companion warning of punishment for those who disobey.

The message applies not only to individuals but to nations, she believes.

"Most Americans really are asleep concerning what's taking place," she said. "People are willing to hand over their God-given rights and the Constitution to the prevailing wicked forces."

Her agenda is simple: It's about what she believes was the greatest nation on earth - the United States of America - and how it was set up based on a recognition of God. And how that recognition now is being withdrawn.

It doesn't matter to her what political party or ethnic, financial, regional or other factors are involved: She just wants the nation to seek restoration of a relationship with the "Almighty God" of history.

"Right now is the most dangerous time in the history of America and the world," she said, citing the prevalence of what she describes as rampant financial manipulation, abortion, the rising culture of euthanasia, a lack of support for the Jews as God's "chosen people," a failure to embrace America's Christian heritage and legislation that defies the principles on which the U.S. was founded. Not to mention questions over whether the president even is eligible to occupy the Oval Office.

"I want all the nations to know, that it only takes 'one' person, who truly believes in the Holy Word-Promises of God, to literally 'change' the course of history for 'good/glory'!" she told WND. (WorldNetDaily) Read more

May Day 2010 - A Cry to God for a Nation in Distress

Join with Christian leaders of all denominations who love God to humble ourselves, pray, seek the face of God, and turn from our wicked ways-individually and as a nation. Jesus will be front and center at May Day. Prayers will be offered in Jesus' Name!

When: May 1st 2010 - Starting at Sunrise (6:10 A.M. EDT) and finishing at 2:00 P.M.

Where: The Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

Christian Newswire Reports on MayDay 2010:
WASHINGTON, March 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- On "May Day," Saturday, May 1st, Christians from around the nation will gather beginning at sunrise (6:10 a.m.) at the Lincoln Memorial with Christian and Jewish leaders who wholeheartedly love God for the sole purpose of repenting and remembering the God of our fathers.

Pro-family leaders across denominational boundaries have joined together for this effort including: Dr. James Dobson, American Family Association President, Tim Wildmon, Concerned Women for America President, Wendy Wright, Liberty Counsel Chairman, Mat Staver, NRB President, Dr. Frank Wright, Three Star General Jerry Boykin, Dutch Sheets, David Barton, and many members of Congress who are willing to stand in the gap for our nation.

"God didn't call us to gather together to hear political speeches," said Pastor Paul Blair, Pastor Coordinator for May Day, "he called us to humble ourselves and gather together to pray." He added, "May Day is 'Pray Day.'"

"This event is not to impress the media or the Washington 'elite.' May Day is focused on God--to cry out and repent of our nation's sins that have brought us to this point of distress," said Janet Porter, Faith2Action President and May Day Coordinator. "I believe the national repentance at May Day is essential to break the curses on our nation brought about by our choices of disobedience and death. The good news is repentance breaks a curse and a remnant can save a nation," she added.

Capitol Hill - Solemn Assembly

National Day of Prayer

Thursday, May 6, 2010
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Prayer has always been used in this country for guidance, protection and strength-even before we were a nation or a handful of colonies. The Pilgrims at Plymouth relied on prayer during their first and darkest winter.

Our founding fathers also called for prayer during the Constitutional Congress. In their eyes, our recently created nation and freedoms were a direct gift from God. And being a gift from God, there was only one way to insure protection - through prayer.

This year, come join with others to cry out for the nation in repentance on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, immediately following the ending of the National Bible Readathon.

Hosted by Nancy Sharman, a National Area Leader (NAL) for the National Day of Prayer Task Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado, this first-time assembly will allow all of us an opportunity to move into corporate intercession upon completion of the reading of the Word of God.
For more information on this Solemn Assembly, please contact Nancy Sharman at nancyndp@verizon.net

JERICHO MARCH CONFERENCE AND PRAYER RALLY
Grassroots Christians Coming to the Nation's Capital April 8th - 10th

Zechariah 8:21 "Let us go speedily to pray before the Lord and to seek the Lord of hosts."

" America is crying because when the wicked are in authority, the people mourn."

Our Federal Government is almost fifteen trillion dollars in debt and broke. Obama and this Congress have had six trillion dollars to squander in just one year with a request for another 3.8 trillion dollars for the 2011 budget plus 50 billion dollars in the guise of a "jobs" bill. There are at least 30 million Americans who can not make a decent living because they do not have a job or work part time, due to disfunctional and irresponsible federal government leaders. Think about it!!! In twenty four months . . . ten trillion dollars and nothing to show for it? Is this a racket? Are racketeers deliberately destroying our nation?

On April 8th and 9th, Insight USA's Jericho March 2010 Conference will be held at the beautiful D.C. Omni Shoreham with David Horowitz, Jerome Corsi, Cliff Kincaid, Pierre Bynum, Thurman Scrivner, Bishop Harry Jackson and Walid Shoebat as keynote speakers. The Conference Theme is "Government vs God."

On Saturday, April 10th, Reverend Gerald Derstine, CEO of the Gospel Crusade Ministerial Association has been invited to lead the prayer on the Mall.
