Focus on Israel

1. Pro-BDS Christian Conference to Feature Man Who Blamed Israel for 9/11 - FreeBeacon

A British man whose views were labeled "clearly anti-Semitic" by the Church of England is scheduled to speak this week to an evangelical group working to erode support for Israel within the Christian community. Christ at the Checkpoint, which promotes the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, is holding its conference this week in Oklahoma City. One of its featured speakers is Stephen Sizer, whose stated views on Israel include suggesting they were behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 in the United States.

Sizer, a vicar who was banned by the Church of England from discussing the Middle East due to his frequent anti-Semitic social media postings, is a leading critic of "Christian Zionism." Sizer was later ordered to "cease all preaching, teaching and leading of services" for good in 2017 after breaking his pledge to refrain from commenting on Israel, and is now retired from the church.

Sizer has long been spotlighted by the Board of Deputies of British Jews, which celebrated his removal from the church, calling him a "repeat offender in the trafficking of antisemitic slurs." The straw that broke the camel's back for the church was his participation, after already being ordered to refrain from commenting on Israel, at an event where the Holocaust was blamed on the Jewish people.

Critics of the conference say Sizer's participation is further evidence of the disruptive influence the group has on the relationship between Christians and Jews. (Read more)

- Please agree with us in prayer for the complete failure of this conference. Thank you!

2. IDF bombs targets in Gaza after rocket hits Beersheba - Times of Israel

Israeli fighter jets on Wednesday morning bombed a number of targets in the Gaza Strip, after Palestinian terrorists in the coastal enclave fired a rocket at the southern city of Beersheba that exploded outside a home, causing damage but no injuries.

The Israel Defense Forces said it identified two launches from Gaza. One targeted Beersheba, which is located some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Strip, while the second was fired out to sea.

"In response to the rockets fired from Gaza at Israel overnight, IDF fighter jets have started attacking terror targets in Gaza," the army said in a statement, refusing to comment on the number and nature of the targets. (Read more)

3. To Nikki, I Say: Thank You - Jerusalem Post

For many years, we have become accustomed to seeing the United Nations as an institution full of lies, distortions and half-truths that our adversaries have unleashed on the world. But the arrival of Ambassador Haley has ushered in a new era in the halls of the UN.

Ambassador Haley was not afraid to be in the minority, to withstand the criticism in the pursuit of the truth. She brought change to the Security Council by voting against proposals that condemned Israel, by ending the automatic support for Abu Mazen's [PA President Mahmoud Abbas's] unilateral moves and by issuing a clear call to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. All were a part of her vigorous efforts in support of the State of Israel.

It was a period of real change when the habits of issuing falsehoods were replaced by the pursuit of truth. A time when Iran's regional ambition, Hamas's terrorism and the Palestinian Authority's lies were exposed to the world. (Read more)

4. UN votes to allow PA to chair G77- Israel National News

The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday voted in favor of allowing the Palestinian Authority to chair the group of 77 developing nations in 2019, Reuters reported. The move will allow the PA to act more like a full UN member state during meetings in 2019.

The United States, Israel and Australia voted against Tuesday's move, which won 146 votes in favor. There were 15 abstentions. 29 countries did not vote. (Read more)

5. Trump plan includes unification of Judea, Samaria with Gaza - Israel National News

The Trump administration's 'Deal of the Century' to promote a final status agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority includes plans to reunite the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with the Palestinian Authority, a senior White House official said Tuesday.

While details of President Trump's 'Deal of the Century' to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East have yet to be released, White House special envoy Jason Greenblatt revealed in an interview with Yediot Ahronot Tuesday that the plan includes a provision for Palestinian Arab unity.

"Let's be clear about something: Gaza and the West Bank have been separated for 10 years, not only physically, but politically-between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. It's absurd to deny that reality," Greenblatt said Tuesday. (Read more)

6. Palestinians use explosives to damage Israel-Gaza border fence - Times of Israel

Sections of the security fence along the border with the Gaza Strip were damaged Tuesday by explosive devices set off by Palestinian rioters in the southern Strip, the Israel Defense Forces said.

In a separate incident, a group of Palestinians broke through the Gaza security fence and approached an IDF post. Troops fired warning shots at the men, who ran back into Gaza, the army said in a statement. Approximately 100 Palestinians clashed with troops along the border, according to the army. IDF units responded with tear gas and live fire. Two Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli troops, the Shehab news agency reported. (Read more)

7. Israeli Uncovers Secret Pact - Jerusalem Online

Russia, Iran, and Turkey struck an agreement which would minimize the impact of US anti-Iranian punitive measures targeting Teheran's oil trade, the website Marco reports, citing a secret document obtained from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

To subvert the US economic blockade, Iran is expected to transport its crude to Russia's refineries on the Caspian Sea, which would later sell it as Russian oil and reimburse Iran. (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. Trump visits Florida communities damaged by Hurricane Michael - PBS

More than 190,000 homes and businesses in Florida were without electricity as of Sunday, along with about 120,000 in Georgia, where Trump also planned to survey hurricane damage. People were also grappling with widespread cellphone outages. The death toll from Michael's destructive march from Florida through to Virginia stood at 17, with just one confirmed death in Mexico Beach.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott greeted Trump upon his arrival at Eglin Air Force Base, and Trump immediately praised Scott for an "incredible" storm response. "The job they've done in Florida has been incredible," Trump told reporters. Scott said he's gotten everything he's asked for from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and has spoken with Trump "almost every day."

Trump tweeted before leaving the White House that he will meet with law enforcement and government officials involved in the massive recovery effort. He said "maximum effort is taking place, everyone is working very hard. Worst hit in 50 years!" He tweeted after arriving in Florida that he is "also thinking about our GREAT Alabama farmers and our many friends in North and South Carolina today. We are with you!" Trump also planned to survey hurricane damage in Georgia on Monday. (Read more)

- Father, we lift up these devastated communities and pray Your Spirit will comfort and strengthen those who have lost so much. Restore them, in Jesus Name.

- Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. (Psalm 71:20)

2. Sessions Warns Courts Are Embracing New Forms Of Activism To Stop Trump - Daily Caller

Attorney General Jeff Sessions criticized federal judges for interfering with President Donald Trump's agenda Monday night, accusing courts of embracing dangerous new forms of judicial activism. Speaking to an audience at the conservative Heritage Foundation, the attorney general identified three areas in which he believes courts are exceeding their authority, reserving special criticism for sweeping discovery orders, arguing they deeply compromise the work of the executive branch.

"This is no little matter," Sessions said. "These are not just minor discovery disputes. These are fundamental questions about the structure of our government. These are fundamental questions about power. If the judiciary can subject the executive branch to new, disruptive and invasive reviews, the power of the judiciary is enhanced while the power of the executive has been diminished. That is a tilt we cannot abide."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sessions criticized nationwide injunctions, in which a single trial judge with limited geographic jurisdiction issues an order binding the entire country, and accused courts of taking cases they have no power to hear. In totality, the AG argued these factors create a more dangerous form of judicial activism, which he styled "judicial encroachment." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the Justice Department will be successful in reigning in the Judiciary's encroachment of the Executive branch's powers.

- The ruthless will vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down-those who with a word make someone out to be guilty, who ensnare the defender in court and with false testimony deprive the innocent of justice.
(Isaiah 29:20-21)

3. Trump administration moves to begin trade talks with UK, EU, and Japan - Washington Examiner

"Under President Trump's leadership, we will continue to expand U.S. trade and investment by negotiating trade agreements with Japan, the EU and the United Kingdom," said U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer. "Today's announcement is an important milestone in that process. We are committed to concluding these negotiations with timely and substantive results for American workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses."

The letter to Congress announcing the U.K. trade talks said that that the administration hopes to address "both tariff and non-tariff barriers and to achieve free, fair and reciprocal trade." Japan represents the world's third-largest economy and the U.K. the fifth, while the U.S. and EU engage in $1.1 trillion in annual trade. By law, the administration must consult with Congress 90 days prior to entering into any talks with foreign governments.

The announcement comes as the U.S. is also contemplating potential tariffs on auto and auto parts imports. A report from the Commerce Department that would indicate whether tariffs are necessary is overdue. Business lobbyists believe the report has been delayed until after the midterm elections in November. All three trade partners would be heavily hit should tariffs be put into place. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these talks will bring down trade barriers and ultimately improve the lives of every American.

- They answered, "We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said, 'There ought to be a sworn agreement between us'- between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you" (Genesis 26:28)

4. Mr. President, Money's Broken. Please Fix It. - American Thinker

"I think the Fed is making a mistake," President Trump told the press recently. "They are so tight." He was referring to the Federal Reserve's decision on September 26 to raise the federal funds rate to a range of 2.00% to 2.25%.

That move was the sixth uptick since President Trump took office, and the market senses that the Fed will crowbar the pinch point up again in December. President Trump is right to be worried that all these moves will tank the economy.

But jawboning the Fed is not enough. The president should push for monetary reform. It's long overdue. A new monetary paradigm can come into being only if there is leadership in Washington. What is needed is a president who has enough self-confidence to break with the dysfunctional practices of the past and who intuitively grasps that the interests of those who would benefit the most from a stable dollar, the mass of ordinary citizens, are not necessarily served by the entrenched practices of the elites who run our country's institutions. (Read more)

- Father, this policy to raise interest rates is driving up our nation's short and long-term debt, as well as interest payments to service that debt. Give President Trump and his advisors wisdom to help us escape this debt trap.

- We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. (Psalm 124:7)

5. Trump threatens to pull aid from Honduras if caravan isn't stopped - Washington Examiner

President Trump threatened Tuesday morning to pull all aid and funding from Honduras if its government does not stop a caravan of migrants currently heading to the southern U.S. border. "The United States has strongly informed the President of Honduras that if the large Caravan of people heading to the U.S. is not stopped and brought back to Honduras, no more money or aid will be given to Honduras, effective immediately," the president tweeted Tuesday morning.

An estimated 1,600 migrants are heading to the U.S. to seek asylum. The group started Friday with an initial 160 Hondurans, but hundreds more have joined the caravan. The group crossed over the Guatemalan border Monday and was immediately met by 100 Guatemalan police officers. The police eventually let the migrants pass into the territory. Members of the caravan told the Associated Press that they hoped to make it to the U.S. and were leaving their native country because of poverty and the threat of violence there. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for real action by Honduras to retrieve these people and we pray for an end to the flagrant disregard of our nation's immigration laws.

- Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. (Proverbs 13:18)

6. Stealthy Democrats running for office urged to hide their positions on immigration - American Thinker

One of the most prestigious and richest progressive think-tanks is urging Democrats in competitive races to hide their real intentions from voters. In a remarkable move, the Center for American Progress is telling Democrats running for office to avoid discussing immigration - because the issue works for Republicans, not Democrats.

"It is very difficult to win on immigration with vulnerable voters in the states Trump carried in 2016," the strategy memo said, arguing that "even the most draconian of Republican policies," such as family separation and threats to deport the Dreamers - undocumented immigrants [sic] who were brought to the United States as children - failed to sway most of them.

Other Democrats in close races need no advice from CAP to know that they'd better stay mum about raising taxes. Democratic candidate for governor J.B. Pritzker has repeatedly dodged questions about the basic details of his progressive income tax proposal, but he's not alone in his refusal to talk specifics. (Read more)

- Father, we pray not a single voter will be fooled in this election. Expose everything, reveal motives, and give the people a true, informed choice.

- But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. (Matthew 5:37)

7. 'People Just Can't Know That': McCaskill, Staff Exposed In Undercover Sting Video - American Thinker

James O'Keefe's Project Veritas released a new undercover video Monday night showing Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and her staffers expressing support for radical gun control measures that they admit she can't state publicly. The video shows McCaskill and her staff admitting that she supports banning semi-automatic weapons, bump stocks, high-capacity magazines, along with supporting other far-left policies.

Rob Mills, who works on McCaskill's campaign, says in the video that McCaskill can't be open about her policies because "she has a bunch of Republican voters" and "that could hurt her ability to get elected."

Nicolas Starost, who also works McCaskill's campaign, says in the video that former President Barack Obama isn't campaigning for McCaskill because she doesn't want to be cast as too far-left, even though she believes in the same policies that Obama does. "And they essentially have the same views on everything?" the Project Veritas journalist asks. "Yeah," Starost responds. "People just can't know that." (Read more)

- Thank You, Lord, for exposing duplicity and giving voters in Missouri the information they need to vote this November.

- The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. (Proverbs 11:3)

8. Top GOP Rep. Says FBI Kept Evidence That Could Torpedo Trump Investigation - Western Journal

Republican lawmakers have hinted for months that the FBI failed to provide federal judges on the surveillance court with information that undercut the government's premise for opening the Trump-Russia probe in 2016. Ratcliffe said the FBI opened its investigation on July 31, 2016, after receiving information from the Australian government about a conversation that Papadopoulos had on May 10, 2016, with Alexander Downer, the top Australian diplomat to the U.K. But Ratcliffe, a top member of the House Judiciary Committee, suggested on Sunday that the FBI and Justice Department had information that contradicted its intelligence on Papadopoulos.

"Instead, what happened here was Department of Justice and FBI officials in the Obama administration in October of 2016 only presented to the court the evidence that made the government's case to get a warrant to spy on a Trump campaign associate," he added.

The FBI obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, warrant against another Trump campaign aide Carter Page on Oct. 21, 2016. The application for the warrant relied heavily on the unverified Steele dossier to assert that Page was acting as a foreign agent of Russia. Page has vehemently denied the allegations.

Republicans have pressed President Donald Trump to declassify the documents, which include 21 pages from a June 2016 FISA application against Page. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes has said the FBI failed to provide "exculpatory evidence" in the FISA applications. He has also said that Americans will be "shocked" by the information behind the FISA redactions. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for a quick and merciful end to the Mueller investigation. We also pray the malfeasance of those involved in this scheme will be fully exposed and prosecuted.

- Good people obtain favor from the Lord, but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes. (Proverbs 12:2)

9. Carter Page Sues DNC And Its Law Firm Over The Steele Dossier - Daily Caller

Former Trump campaign associate Carter Page filed a defamation lawsuit Monday against the Democratic National Committee and its law firm, which commissioned the infamous Steele dossier. Page filed the suit in federal court in Oklahoma against the DNC, the law firm, Perkins Coie, and two of its partners, Marc Elias and Michael Sussmann.

Perkins Coie, which also represented the Hillary Clinton campaign, is the firm that hired Fusion GPS, the opposition researcher that investigated Donald Trump's links to Russia. Elias was Perkins Coie's main contact to Fusion GPS and GPS hired former British spy Christopher Steele to conduct the investigation. In the report, which was provided to numerous journalists and the FBI, Steele alleged that Page was the Trump campaign's back channel to the Kremlin for the purposes of conspiring to influence the election. The FBI relied heavily on Steele's unverified report to obtain four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants against Page. The first warrant was granted on Oct. 21, 2016, shortly after Page left the campaign. The fourth and final warrant expired in September 2017. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Carter Page will be exonerated through this lawsuit and recover damages to his reputation and career.

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. (Proverbs 22:1)

10. GPS founder Glenn Simpson pleads the Fifth before House committees - Washington Examiner

The co-founder of opposition research firm Fusion GPS Glenn Simpson pleaded the Fifth Amendment on Tuesday to House Republicans who were seeking his testimony on the role his company played in creating an investigation into Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

Simpson has also come under fire for his relationship with Bruce Ohr, a Justice Department lawyer. He had an usually close relationship with Ohr, who brought some of the dossier information to the Justice Department and FBI. Ohr's wife, Nellie Ohr, was contracted by Fusion GPS. Nellie Ohr is expected before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees on Friday, and former FBI lawyer James Baker is also scheduled to give a deposition behind closed doors on Thursday.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., told reporters that they are looking at next steps following Simpson's non-answers, which include holding him in contempt. "Simpson has to have a reasonable apprehension of criminal prosecution in order to validly invoke the Fifth," said Meadows, "But if not, you cannot just invoke the Fifth to avoid answering congressional questions." (Read more)

- Father, we pray Congressional committees will be able to compel the testimony needed from Glenn Simpson.

- In your might uproot them and bring them down. For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. (Psalm 59:11b-12a)

Pastors, politics and Christians

As election day approaches, the debate over Christian participation in politics is re-circulating among various Christian camps of thought. Those justifying non-participation often cite Matthew 22:21 where Jesus says, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." Some pastors use this verse to teach their flocks that Christians have no place in the affairs of their nations. Pastors also preach Romans 13 about submitting to the ruling authorities, even though they may be evil. But Peter himself said in Acts 5:29 that, "We ought to follow God rather than men" when he was facing persecution and unjust demands from the ruling authorities.

As I see it, the context of Romans 13 was about the religious leaders that were the Roman-appointed governing body over the Jews. In any case, if those leaders are corrupt by Biblical terms it is self evident that you do not follow or support them. Governments are established for the good and protection of the people. In that, people give up some rights for those protections. Laws are established also to protect the people. As Christians, we know that we are to be a law-abiding people. But when a law goes against God's law; or a government goes against God's law, to whom do we submit as the higher authority? Peter answered that question when the ruling Sadducees threw him in prison for preaching Jesus in the Temple.

When this country was established, the Founders were well aware that they were going against the prevailing world view--that God appointed the ruler (the king) and that the people should blindly follow along even if that ruler was unjust. We can see the Founders' thinking by reading the Declaration of Independence in its entirety. Their mantra at Concord and Lexington was "No King but Jesus." So in our form of government, we the people have the say over who rules us. To passively submit to evil rulers, especially in this nation where God blessed us with the freedom to choose, is beyond the bounds of God-given common sense and self-preservation.
Many will say that Christians should not concern themselves with earthly kingdoms, but only be concerned about the kingdom of God. I don't view it as "either/or," but rather "both/and." We are charged in Romans 12:21 to be not overcome of evil, but to overcome evil with good. In this country, we are blessed to have a say in our government with our vote. And if we choose to be salt and light to the political arena, we have that opportunity as well. I take issue with pastors who promote accepting evils in government or politics by saying they are no concern to Christians. Discouraging action against the ills of society by voting, participating in government or politics, or by just speaking out on such issues, is consent. Perhaps the best way to begin overcoming evil in high places is by cleansing the pulpit of those who condone it.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

FACEBOOK ALERT!

Facebook Suspends 800 Political Pages and Accounts,
Including Right Wing News

Facebook announced on Thursday it took down over 800 pages and accounts in a clamp down on what the social media company calls "inauthentic behavior" in the lead-up to the midterm elections next month.

"Today, we're removing 559 Pages and 251 accounts that have consistently broken our rules against spam and coordinated inauthentic behavior," wrote Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook's head of cybersecurity policy and Oscar Rodriguez, product manager, in a blog post.

"Given the activity we've seen - and its timing ahead of the US midterm elections - we wanted to give some details about the types of behavior that led to this action," the post said. (Western Journalism) Read more.

- Father, regardless of the leanings of any of these pages, our Constitution guarantees the right of free speech. Many of these pages have millions of followers. Censorship in any form is repugnant to the Constitution. Facebook virtually admits they did this prior to the midterms - and they did it in order to manipulate the elections in their favor. We ask, Lord that You reverse what Facebook has taken down and touch Mark Zuckerberg's heart to stop censoring Conservative voices - or even liberal ones. We ask You to forgive Mark Zukerberg and his staff, for they know not what they do, and that You will remove the "slime" from their minds that they will walk in truth. In Your Name, amen.

- "So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19)

Urgent Prayer for Parliament in UK

MP'S EXTREME ABORTION BILL TO BE VOTED ON NEXT WEEK
On Tuesday 23rd October, a Ten Minute Rule Bill will be brought forward in the House of Commons proposing the most radical change to abortion law for 50 years - effectively that abortions should be allowed for any - or no - reason, of an unborn child of up to 24 weeks ( 5 months ) gestation.

While Ten Minute Rule Bills rarely become law, the abortion lobby are attempting to use a vote on this Bill to create momentum in Parliament ahead of bringing forward an amendment to the Domestic Abuse Bill to introduce radical changes to abortion legislation- if passed such an amendment would change the law .

Getting a strong vote against this Bill on the 23rd October is vital to demonstrating that there is strong opposition to the abortion lobby's radical proposals and helping stop their momentum. This is also a rare opportunity to inform a large group of MPs on the key problems with these proposals.
It is vital that many people in the UK contact their MPs THIS WEEK ahead of the vote, making it clear that they OPPOSE the motion and asking their MP to reply to them and confirm they will VOTE AGAINST it .
> > > To emphasize how important it is that we all individually take action against this - Amnesty International has brought the lobbying power, resources and experience that they used in the Republic Of Ireland on the referendum to focus on this fight, so there is a far more equipped and resourced opposition on this even than usual.
To learn more, go here.
Finally. the charity Right To Life has also set-up an 'email your MP' function regarding this vote that you are welcome to use if you are not going to have time to develop your own resources on this. To access this petition, go here.

HOW GREAT THOU ART

"There is none like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to your help, And through the skies in His majesty." (Deuteronomy 33:26)

Lyrics

O mighty God, when I behold the wonder
Of nature's beauty, wrought by words of thine,
And how thou leadest all from realms up yonder,
Sustaining earthly life with love benign,

Refrain:

With rapture filled, my soul thy name would laud,
O mighty God! O mighty God!
(repeat)

When I behold the heavens in their vastness,
Where golden ships in azure issue forth,
Where sun and moon keep watch upon the fastness
Of changing seasons and of time on earth.

When crushed by guilt of sin before thee kneeling,
I plead for mercy and for grace and peace,
I feel thy balm and, all my bruises healing,
My soul is filled, my heart is set at ease.

And when at last the mists of time have vanished
And I in truth my faith confirmed shall see,
Upon the shores where earthly ills are banished
I'll enter Lord, to dwell in peace with thee.

It was translated into German and then into Russian. It was translated into English from the Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who also added two original verses of his own. The composition was set to a Russian melody. It was popularised by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows during the Billy Graham crusades. It was voted the United Kingdom's favourite hymn by BBC's Songs of Praise. "How Great Thou Art" was ranked second (after "Amazing Grace") on a list of the favourite hymns of all time in a survey by Christianity Today magazine in 2001.
