The Daily Brief

1. Second India blackout in two days cuts power to 670 million - Reuters

Grids supplying electricity to half of India's 1.2 billion people collapsed on Tuesday, trapping coal miners, stranding train travelers and plunging hospitals into darkness in the second major blackout in as many days.

- Tonight, India is a nation in crisis. Pray for these suffering souls; may God's grace sustain them in this crisis. Pray for wisdom for those in authority, that they find the key(s) to these blackouts and that power be restored quickly to the people of India. Pray!

- ". . .if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [a]without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

2. Top Obama security official 'briefed Israeli prime minister on plans for U.S. military strike on Iran' in nuclear row - Daily Mail

National security adviser Tom Donilon sought to reassure Israel that Washington is prepared to act militarily should diplomacy and sanctions fail to pressure Iran to abandon its nuclear enrichment program.

- Lord, we pray for Tom Donilon to continually be guided from the Holy Spirit in national security issues. We pray for continued support of Israel by the United States. We also pray that Iran would abandon any evil programs. Lord, show leaders the plans to pursue which make for peace, and how we may help edify Your plan for Iran. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

- Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. (Romans 14:19)

3. Judge Temporarily Stops Administration from Forcing Christian Family to Act Against Faith - CNS news

The injunction spares the family from complying with an Obamacare regulation while the judge decides on its merits the lawsuit the family has brought contending the regulation violates their First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion.

- Lord, we thank You for a decision from the judge against the Obamacare regulation, and in support of religious freedom. We pray that the decision would hold. We pray blessings on the family involved. Lord, we pray for righteous judges and righteous judgements. We pray for Obamacare and it's unjust regulations to be stopped in the name of Jesus. Amen.

- Do not judge by appearance, but judge with righteous judgement. (John 7:24)

4. Republicans to issue report blaming five ATF employees for Fast and Furious' debacle - Fox News

The congressional investigative report, to be issued Tuesday, specifically faults Acting Director Kenneth Melson; Deputy Director William Hoover; William Newell, special agent in charge of the Phoenix Field Division; William McMahon, deputy assistant director for field operations, and Mark Chait, assistant director for field operations. Melson told investigators he felt the Justice Department was making him a scapegoat for the operation's failure.

- Continue to lift up the investigation about who was truly responsible for the "Fast and Furious" program, until all the truth has been revealed. Those who are responsible must be held accountable and brought to justice. Amen.

- "He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into the light." (Job 12:22)

5. Mayor Bloomberg pushing NYC hospitals to hide baby formula so more new moms will breast-feed - NY Post

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed. Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use - the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation...and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

- Lord, we pray for Mayor Bloomberg, that he would see the kingdom of God. We pray that he would have godly wisdom to make right decisions. We also pray Your knowledge and direction for these new mothers, so they would know the best method on feeding their children, physically and spiritually. We also pray for the hospitals to freely give the best care possible. Let Your kingdom come that people would be led by the Holy Spirit, and get the care that they need. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)

Blessed is YHWH, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth. (Psalm 124:1-8)

Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda, new democracy, old prophecy

The previous Bush Administration and the current occupant of the Oval Office have made their foreign policy mark by spreading democracy in the Middle East. The humanist viewpoint is that if people have a say in their leadership, they will more likely live in peace. Thus democracy is the answer, any democracy is better than none--and that is the turn of the century foreign policy of the United States. Under George W. Bush, the US supported democracy in Gaza, Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. The result has been a consistent election and installation of radical Islam in positions of power. Instead of promoting peace, the enemies of Israel and the US gained even stronger foothold.

The current Administration accelerated this foreign policy endeavor. From his very first major speech in Cairo, the president has facilitated a new day with Islam, a new way with America. Since then, the US government (translated: you the taxpayer) has foot the bill for democracy in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Syria. The terrorist sponsoring Muslim Brotherhood has been the US partner. In many of these countries, al Qaeda also has been a US ally. The snake the US helped create under Jimmy Carter to counter the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 bit the hand that fed it and then has become somewhat an ally to this Administration's foreign policy.
Both al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood have the goal of expanding Islam globally and establishing Sharia law. The current American president has the goal of establishing democracy in the Middle East. These forces are collaborating on the issue of common ground. The US assists the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda to work to overthrow governments and establish democratic elections. The elections allow the Muslim Brotherhood, which is politically astute and organized to win the elections and establish Sharia-based constitutions with Islam as the state religion. The US is using terrorist groups to usher in democracy. The terrorist groups are using the US to establish Sharia Law and Islam.
A stunning current example is Syria, where the UK Guardian is reporting that al Qaeda is supplying the military muscle to turn the tide against the Assad regime. The Muslim Brotherhood is working the political angle. The US is assisting both. All the nations mentioned coming against Israel in the Biblical end time Day of the Lord are Arab, and are becoming increasingly Islamic. The US is providing military and political expertise, and your money. In Ezekiel 38:21, YHVH said of the beast (Gog), "And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith YHVH: every man's sword shall be against his brother." Often YHVH causes the allies of his enemies to destroy one another. What prophetic destiny are the leaders of America bringing upon their people? What is our part in electing them?
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Senate Committee Passes U.N. Treaty

Senate Committee Passes U.N. Treaty

A controversial United Nations treaty drew one step closer to being ratified by the U.S. Senate last Thursday, when three Republicans crossed party lines to pass it out of the Foreign Relations Committee.

Democrats and the Obama administration hope to see the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) reach the Senate floor for a vote by the end of this week, where it would require only 67 votes to legally bind the U.S. to international laws and standards.

"Ostensibly, what we hear from the administration is that this will give us a seat at the table to negotiate with other countries on these issues, but there's a lot more beneath the surface," said Wesley Denton, a spokesman for Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, who is leading the fight against the treaty. "It puts the U.S. at a disadvantage by having international bureaucrats supersede our own laws." (CitizenLink)

- Pray and ask God to move His Right hand on this evil bill to destroy it once and for all.

- "He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God." (Joshua 4:24)

August 1st is D-Day for Religious Freedom in America

August 1st is D-Day for Religious Freedom in America

The livelihood and religious freedom of countless private employers hangs in the balance tomorrow, August 1. The following are some excerpts from information provided by the Catholic Association who have been at the forefront of this battle:

Last week, a federal court dealt a major blow to the Department of Health and Human Services' mandate requiring employers to provide contraception, sterilization, and abortion-causing drugs in their healthcare plans. In the first-ever legal victory against the mandate, the court granted a temporary injunction to the family-owned Hercules Industries in Colorado.

Andy Newland, Vice President of Hercules Industries comments about the battle he has been thrown into, "We never imagined the federal government would order our family business to provide insurance for drugs we object to covering. If you put yourself back to when the founders founded America, it seems so contradictory to their intention that Americans be free to live out their beliefs in a country that was created for freedom from religious persecution."

The Obama administration argued that employers have no conscience rights if they engage in a for-profit business, and therefore the business owners - the Newland family - ought to be subject to millions of dollars in fines per year for non-compliance.

While this was a significant victory, it is only applies to the Newlands, and it is only temporary. The livelihood and religious freedom of countless other private employers hangs in the balance on as of tomorrow.

Tomorrow indeed marks a seismic shift in the world of religious liberty in America. Once the mandate goes into effect, the government has codified into law the notion that employers may be required to violate the teachings of their faith if they are a for-profit employer.

Religiously affiliated non-profits who qualify for a one year "safe harbor" will have one year to get used to the fact that they will no longer have conscience rights. For the first time in American history, the government is sending the message to Americans that they are "loaning" out religious freedom with an expiration date of August 1, 2013.

If you find yourself at Chick-fil-A tomorrow bowing your head before your meal, give thanks to God for your religious freedom to pray in public, and ask him to have mercy on our great nation.

The Week of July 30-Aug. 3

Fellow conservative patriots,

This is it. We're holding by the final week of the session before the great August recess. With the exception of a disconcerting stop-gap version of the farm bill, this week will be anti-climactic. The major battles over the budget, the tax cliff, and sequestration will be kicked down the road into September. Nonetheless, we must be vigilant of any last minute push to pass bad legislation. There are already some suspicious "fast-track" suspension votes on the agenda, one of which is explained in this week's edition.

For Liberty.

The Honorable Jim Ryun
Chairman of The Madison Project

Taxes

Last week, the Senate voted on competing tax extension proposals from the two parties. The Republican proposal to extend all of the Bush tax cuts for one year and implement a two year "fix" for the AMT was defeated 45-54. The Democrat proposal to raise taxes on those making more than $200,000 passed on the motion to proceed by 51-48. However, it will face a filibuster for final passage. Moreover, the entire bill is void because it is a tax bill that must originate in the House, not the Senate.

The House will vote on similar proposals this week, with the expectation that the results will be a mirror image of the Senate. They are expected to vote on H.R. 8 either on Wednesday or Thursday. This bill will reflect the Senate Republican version. They will also accept an amendment from Democrats that will reflect the Senate Democrat bill.
Then the House will consider, H.R. 6169, a bill that will establish an expedited timeline for congressional consideration of a GOP plan to overhaul the tax code. Specifically, it calls upon the House Ways and Means Committee to introduce tax reform legislation by April 30, 2013. Pursuant to this bill, the future tax reform measure must include a 25% cap on the corporate tax rate, repeal of the Alternative Minimum Tax, and consolidation of the individual tax rate into two brackets of no more than 10% and 25%.

Conservative concerns:

- A Modest Proposal: If we are going to showcase "messaging" votes before the recess, why not stand on principle and pass a bill that reflects our priorities better? Part of the reason why the economy is so dismal is because there is so much uncertainty. Instead of passing another 1-year extension, let's make the tax cuts permanent. Rep. Tim Walberg (MI-07) introduced H.R. 6225, which would make current income tax rates permanent, index the capital gains tax for inflation, and repeal the death tax. Remember that Republicans caved in December 2010 and agreed to reinstate the death tax, albeit at a higher exemption rate, after it had already expired in 2010. We should never approve of double taxation upon death.
The bottom line is that none of this is consequential leading up to the August recess. The House will adopt the Republican measure and the Senate will remain deadlocked. The real fireworks will begin in September, and continue during the short October session before the election.

On the Campaign Trail

On the Campaign Trail:

100 days to go, race remains tight

(Note: this past weekend, we reached the 100-day marker until Election Day, Tuesday, November 6. Read on . . .)

With 100 days until the 2012 election, President Obama has a tenuous lead, but the struggling economy hurts his bid for a second term.

Obama leads Mitt Romney by a narrow margin in most national polls, and has a slightly wider lead in most swing states, giving Romney little room for error. But while Obama continues to lead Romney in personal likability - a major asset - there are few signs that Obama's sustained summer attack on Romney's business background has changed the contours of the race.

The three swing states that have seen the most advertising by both sides are Florida, Ohio and Virginia - states Romney likely needs to sweep to win the presidency. At the beginning of May, Obama held a narrow lead in most polls in Virginia, a slightly wider one in Ohio, and the two were tied in Florida. Months later, the same is true in each state. Tomorrow: Eat Out at Chick-Fil-A!!

Tomorrow: Eat Out at Chick-Fil-A!!

Announcing Chick-fil-A appreciation day

Tomorrow, August 1st, is Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. And I am proud to join with Governor Mike Huckabee and others in encouraging people to show their support for the restaurant chain's Bible-based value system by eating out at one of their locations. But remember: This can't be a one-day effort. The left is planning a grinding campaign to drive Chick-fil-A out of business. You already know about the numerous liberal politicians who are threatening to prevent the restaurant from doing business in their cities. Several colleges have also moved to keep Chick-fil-A from selling its tasty chicken on campus. If there's a Chick-fil-A close by, be sure to put it at the top of your list for good, affordable food.
