Health Care Debated

Candidates Cast Their Care

In what could be the last debate between Senators Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the two tangoed on several issues, but it was universal health care that stole center stage. The discussion quickly digressed into a contest of whose plan would cover the most people. But lost in the candidates' rosy promise of "health care for all" was the reality of what kind of policies will best preserve consumer choice, hold down skyrocketing costs by allowing market forces to work, and protect private rights of conscience. Although both candidates have retreated from the liberal dream of a government-run or "single- payer" health care system, the array of mandates they would impose on individuals, employers, and insurance companies would hardly result in the free market we need. The bureaucratic nightmare aside, entrusting the government with our health care also means allowing them to make value judgments on our core beliefs. They may let you choose your doctor, but probably won't let you choose an insurance plan that doesn't pay for abortion. Without competition, the quality of health care will suffer, while waste and inefficiency grow. Our system may need a dose of reform, but the cure is not abdicating our freedom and values to achieve it.

Adult Stem-Cell Successes Add Up

Adult stem cells taken from blood or bone marrow may provide successful treatment for some autoimmune diseases and cardiovascular disorders. That's according to a study published in today's issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association.

Dr. Richard K. Burt of Northwestern University and his colleagues reviewed more than 300 reports to test the ability of blood- and bone-marrow-derived adult stem cells to treat patients. The results showed clinical successes of adult stem cells are rapidly increasing.

"This study helps us codify what we've known for years - unlike embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells are successfully treating patients suffering from autoimmune and heart diseases," said Dawn Vargo, associate bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action.

Obama Worries Top Brass (Click here to also see why)

..

. . . The Washington Times recently interviewed a number of senior military commanders, and many of them expressed serious reservations about a "Commander-In-Chief Obama." Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney told the Times, "We're very concerned about his apparent lack of understanding on the threat of radical Islam to the United States. A lot of retired senior officers feel the same way."

Retired Army Gen. John Keane, who helped develop the surge strategy, said: "Anyone who is advocating a precipitous pullout of U.S. forces, believing this will be a catalyst for political progress, does not understand the realities of Iraq and the minds of the key political leaders. The U.S. military presence is the glue that is holding things together in Iraq and is the fundamental reason for the recent political progress. If you remove this presence, the political leaders will believe they are on their own and will fall prey to their own fears and paranoia."

One senior Pentagon official told the Times that an Obama swearing-in "will give the Arab street the final victory, the best optics, and the ultimate bragging rights. They win, we lose." All of these comments are absolutely right. Osama bin Laden looked at America's history of giving up on Vietnam, running out of Lebanon and pulling out of Somalia and concluded that we were a "paper tiger that runs after a few blows." The terrorists thought they could drive us out of Iraq too, and they were right to think so.

. . . Thankfully, Senator John McCain and others were demanding a new strategy for victory, and, thankfully, President Bush refused to accept the Democrats' demand to surrender. As a result of America demonstrating its commitment to Iraq's freedom and security through the surge of reinforcements, the Sunni tribal chiefs turned on Al Qaeda, Iran stopped its meddling and the Iraqi politicians are beginning to make hard decisions. Now that things are starting to improve, it makes no sense whatsoever to "change horses in mid-stream" by electing a president who is convinced of America's failure and determined to force our defeat in Iraq. PRAYING FOR THE ELECTIONS

Intercessory Prayer Initiative

PRAYER ALERT - February 26, 2008

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Nationally known prophet, Chuck Pierce, who teaches on times and seasons, was with us last week and spoke about the times we are in and the urgency of the hour to pray concerning God's will for the upcoming elections.

Spiritual wickedness in high places is contending for control of the highest office in the land. We must contend as well. The time is NOW to come into agreement to pray the will of God and shift the momentum toward God's will and way.

Prayer Points:

- Pray that the truth regarding the candidates and their agendas would surface and that people would see beyond race, gender, age or rhetoric to choose the best.

- Pray that the spirits of delusion and deception would lose their ability to operate effectively in this election.

- Pray that the nation would unite to elect God's choice when hidden agendas that threaten our nation's security and freedoms are exposed.

More than ever before in history, we need to heed God's admonition in 2 Chronicles 7:14 to "humble" ourselves, pray, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. He has promised to heal our land if we do.

Feel free to forward this notice to anyone who will join us in prayer. Strategies for prayer are not made for public announcement but for the purpose of intercession. To sign up and receive the ALERTS, go to our website (http://www.prayerinitiative.com/) and join forces with us for His kingdom to be advanced!

Intercessory Prayer Initiative is sponsored by Charisma and SpiritLed Woman magazines.

The Daily Brief Wednesday, February 27, 2008

"But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." (II Kings 17:39)

Today's Daily Brief

1. U.S. Military Commanders Bemoan Lack of Concern About Terror Threat - CNSNews.com

While Islamic fundamentalist terrorists are seeking to destroy the Western way of life, Americans are more concerned about the life of movie stars and going out for a hamburger than issues crucial to their freedom, several senior retired American military officers said at the fifth annual Jerusalem Conference.

Speaking to a small group of reporters, retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Norman Saunders said that the U.S. faces a "very serious challenge from the fanatical Muslim population that would seek to do away with the way of life of the Western World."

"We listen to our presidential candidates - [in] what is probably a very critical election for our country, if not the world - talk constantly about change without any definition of what that represents. What would they change? How would they confront the threats? Are there new ideas that they would bring forward?", he asked. Saunders, a former commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard who is responsible for a number of Homeland Defense and Security matters, said that Americans everywhere need to understand the issues.

· Dear Gracious Heavenly Father, You are more than enough. We praise You for Who You Are. The Great I Am. The Only One Who Existed Before Time Began. We humbly ask You to clear the minds of Americans everywhere so that they can hear You speak and tutor us on matters that are really important. First, having a saving knowledge and relationship with Jesus and a repentance of sins. You already know who will be the next President of the United States, and may he have reverence for You and walk with you while President. May he understand that it is You who gave him this office and that he will acknowledge this matter for Your glory for the rest of eternity! May Your Holy Spirit intercede for the needs and salvation of America, Israel and her allies. In Your Holy Name we pray. Amen.

· "But Simon Peter answered Him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also, we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.'" (John 6: 68-69 NKJV)

2. Drug-Resistant TB Spreading Faster Than Experts Feared - Associated Press and Fox News

Drug-resistant tuberculosis is spreading even faster than medical experts had feared, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned Tuesday. The rate of TB patients infected with the drug-resistant strain topped 20 percent in some countries, the highest ever recorded, the U.N. agency said. "Ten years ago, it would have been unthinkable to see rates like this," said Dr. Mario Raviglione, director of WHO's "Stop TB" department. "This demonstrates what happens when you keep making mistakes in TB treatment."

Experts also worry about the spread of XDR-TB, or extensively drug-resistant TB, a strain virtually untreatable in poor countries. When an XDR-TB outbreak was identified in AIDS patients in South Africa in 2006, it killed nearly every patient within weeks. WHO's report said XDR-TB has now been found in 45 countries.

"Multi-drug resistant TB is a threat to every person on the planet," said Mark Harrington, executive director of Treatment Action Group, a public health think tank. "It's not like HIV, where you are only infected through specific actions. TB is a threat to every person who takes a train or a plane."

· We pray that man, the only creation made in Your Image, will look to You for help with this disease that is spreading around the world that You created. We pray that those involved in the combating of multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis will turn to You for help and for the healing of those infected. May many be saved unto Jesus because of this plague. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

· But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." (1 Peter 5: 10-11 NKJV)

3. Oil Hits Record $102 As Dollar Tumbles - ABC News

Oil prices broke through a new intraday high of $102 a barrel Wednesday as a slide in the U.S. dollar prompted investors to pump more money into energy futures as a hedge against inflation. The dollar sank to a record low against the euro after the release of three disheartening U.S. economic reports Tuesday, that show that the economy is slowing as prices for consumer goods rise. The dollar's decline prompted investors to seek a safe haven from turmoil in the financial markets and the threat of inflation.

A report by the Conference Board, a business-backed research group, that its Consumer Confidence Index fell to the lowest since February 2003, far below what analysts had been expecting; indicated that consumers might continue to curb their spending in the coming months.

· May we remember Your Words...

· "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6: 25, 27 and 33 NKJV)

4. Britain Shaken By Biggest Quake In Over 20 Years - AFP

The country was shaken by its biggest earthquake for a quarter of a century early Wednesday, with tremors measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale felt across England. The tremor hit at around 1:00 am (0100 GMT) with its epicentre in the agricultural northeastern county of Lincolnshire, but people were woken as far away as Wales, Scotland and London. The quake caused roof tiles to topple across England, but there were few reports of injuries although a 19-year-old man was taken to hospital in the Yorkshire town of Barnsley after roof masonry collapsed into his bedroom.

The British Geological Survey initially said the quake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale before revising the figure to 5.2. Seismologist Brian Baptie of the BGS said: "This is a significant earthquake for the UK and will have been widely felt across England and Wales." He said such a quake could be expected to hit Britain every 10 to 20 years.

· Dear Lord, this is another "wake-up" call to the world to stop working in their own strength and yield their lives to you before Your Son indeed returns! May secular humanism be sent back to the pit of hell from which it came, and may those affected by and those who hear, see or hear about this unexpected earthquake see Your Hand in this and come to know Jesus as their Savior. In Your Name we pray. Amen.

· "Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5: 6-7 NKJV)

5. Huckabee: Fertilized Egg Is Person - Newsmax and The Denver Post

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has endorsed an amendment to Colorado's constitution declaring that a fertilized egg is a person. "This proposed constitutional amendment will define a person as a human being from the moment life begins at conception," Huckabee said in a statement backing the Colorado Human Life Amendment.

The amendment's supporters need to collect an estimated 76,000 petition signatures to get the measure on the November ballot, according to the Denver Post. If approved, the amendment would bestow constitutional rights to life, liberty, equality of justice, and due process of law to every fertilized egg, the paper reported. The amendment is opposed by pro-choice groups, who fear it could set the stage for outlawing abortions in Colorado.

· Thank You, Lord for using Mr. Huckabee in a pivotal way to showcase the importance and sanctity of human life that You created. May this state constitutional amendment pass in Colorado. May abortionists everywhere, beginning today, find extreme distaste for their abominable practices and shutter their abortion clinics and end this killing of the unborn. And, may this small step by man be used to help pave Your Way to end abortion in America and throughout the world! In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

· As David prayed, so may we pray for America: "Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. I said, 'Lord be merciful to me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.'" (Psalm 41: 1 & 4 NKJV)

Senate Passes Pro-Life Amendment to Indian Health Care Bill

The U.S. Senate voted 52-42 today to prevent taxpayer- funded abortions within Indian health care. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., sponsored an amendment to the Indian Health Care Improvement Act based on the Hyde Amendment, which forbids federal funding of abortions. Indian health services are funded through the Interior Appropriations bill, which has never been subject to the Hyde Amendment.

Senator Sam Brownback, co-sponsor of the Vitter Amendment commented on its passage, stating: "This is an important victory for the cause of life," said Brownback. "In the midst of the national debate about abortion, we have come to some fundamental agreements. We should not be using American tax dollars to fund abortion. Regardless of how one feels about abortion, I am glad we can agree that tax dollars should not be used to fund abortion."

Nearly 800 CitizenLink readers e-mailed their senators in support of the pro-life measure. "This is a great legislative victory and a prime example of how constituent action makes a difference," said Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst for Focus on the Family Action.

Eight Democrats voted for the pro-life amendment: Sens. Evan Bayh, Ind.; Robert Byrd, W.Va.; Bob Casey, Pa.; Tim Johnson, S.D.; Mary Landrieu, La.; Ben Nelson, Neb.; Harry Reid, Nev.; and Ken Salazar, Colo.

Three Republicans voted against Vitter's amendment: Sens. Susan Collins, Maine; Olympia Snowe, Maine; and Arlen Specter, Pa.

Six senators did not vote: Sens. John Cornyn, R- Texas; John McCain, R-Ariz.; John Warner, R-Va.; Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.; Christopher Dodd, D-Conn.; and Barack Obama, D-Ill. (Source: CitizenLink and Office of Senator Sam Brownback)

- Offer PRAISE for the passage of this important amendment! THe LORD has heard our prayers and He has answered. Continue in prayer for the Native Americans in our nation, whose needs must yet be met for decent housing, health care, education and employment. Thank our Lord that He promises to make a way . . . where there is no way.

- "Therefore, choose life, that you and your seed may live." (Deut. 30:19)

Taxpayer Funded Porn Guide

As if parents did not have enough to contend with in protecting their children from the evils of pornography, they now have to face government-funded projects. Unfortunately, that's the "net" effect of Planned Parenthood's online venture, teenwire.com. The site, which is so offensive that FRC's Internet filter blocked it, was supposedly created as a resource for kids seeking "medically accurate" information. According to the nation's biggest abortion merchant, that information now includes normalizing pornography. Although Planned Parenthood is careful to state that it's illegal to ply children under 18 with sexually explicit images, that doesn't stop its "advice columnists" from telling kids that "many people use pornography as part of sex play." On the "Ask the Experts" page, one young visitor says, "I look at porno sites... but people say looking at those sites affects your school work... Should I stop it? If I should, how?" An "expert" responds, "There is no correlation between using pornography and getting bad grades in school."

Among other things, kids are encouraged to play games about issues from bisexuality to birth control. Another page gives teens the lowdown on having an abortion without their parents' consent. To teens struggling with homosexuality, Planned Parenthood says, "Having sex with girls and boys is normal and healthy." With over $300 million in taxpayer funds, the organization has the U.S. government to thank for helping to promote these messages. Contact your leaders and urge them to support Rep. Mike Pence and Sen. David Vitter's bills to zero out funding for groups like Planned Parenthood--else Title X programs may soon mean triple X! (Source: Family Research Council)

China Violates Human Rights

Plenty of Rice in China... But No Condi

In the months leading up to this summer's Olympics, China continues to prove its critics right. While many had hoped that the Beijing Games would encourage China to make progress on religious freedom and human rights, the regime is still flaunting its disdain for Western values.

The country's latest victim, Zheng Enchong, is an attorney who publicly condemned China's forced abortion policy. International human rights groups now report that Enchong was detained by state officials and viciously beaten. This is at least the second time that local authorities have harassed him and his family. In 2003, he served a three-year sentence for speaking to the foreign press about China's disdain for human rights. Like the Chinese pastors, his fate is in the hands of ruthless state officials. Of the hundreds of house church leaders who were arrested in December, FRC has learned from China Aid that 21 have been sent to labor camps where they will spend the next three years being "re- educated" for their involvement in an "evil cult." According to Chinese observers, this is "the most massive persecution case since 1983."

FRC and 28 congressional leaders have asked the State Department why the U.S. has not protested. Neither FRC's letter nor that of the House coalition has received the slightest acknowledgement from Secretary Condoleezza Rice. It is reprehensible that a nation like America, founded by men who sought refuge for their religious beliefs, would turn a blind eye while these pastors suffer for their Christian faith. The Daily Brief - Tuesday, February 26, 2008

"But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." (II Kings 17:39)

Today's Daily Brief

1. N. American Army created without OK by Congress - WorldNetDaily

U.S. Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of USNORTHCOM, signs agreement Feb. 14, 2008, with Canadian Air Force Lt. Gen. Marc Dumais, commander of Canada Command (USNORTHCOM photo)

In a ceremony that received virtually no attention in the American media, the United States and Canada signed a military agreement Feb. 14 allowing the armed forces from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a domestic civil emergency, even one that does not involve a cross- border crisis. Read more.

- Pray much over this development, as you read through this report. God has established our borders, and they need to be honored. Pray!

- "Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered!" (Psalm 68:1)

2. Congressman J. Randy Forbes Introduces the "Religious Heritage Resolution" - (Christian Coalition of America)

Congressman J. Randy Forbes, R-VA, now has a total of 72 co-sponsors on his bi-partisan "Religious Heritage Resolution" bill, H.Res. 888, which is a non- binding resolution detailing many examples throughout America's history where faith and religion played a significant role. The Forbes Resolution also affirms America's rich religious and spiritual heritage and designates the first week in May as "Americ an Religious History Week."

· Lord, thank You for people like Congressman Forbes who are doing what they can to preserve our religious freedoms, the history of our nation, and how religion is reflected in our nation's documents, events, and places throughout our nation's capitol. We pray more leaders will speak up for our religious heritage.

· Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. (Psalms 33:18, 19)

3. Gun Control Advocates Introduce 'Microstamping' Bill - CNSNews.com

A gun control group is hailing Sen. Ted Kennedy (D- Mass.) and Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) for introducing legislation that would require gun microstamping in all fifty states. The National Crime Gun Identification Act, introduced in both the House and Senate on Feb. 7, "will help law enforcement track down armed criminals and solve gun murders," the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said. The National Rifle Association calls such legislation "incremental gun control."

· Lord, we pray that any bill that would encroach on our Constitutional freedoms will be blocked. Give our leaders ideas about how we can ensure the safety of private citizens without imfringing on people's rights. The spirit of murder was unleashed upon our nation when Roe v Wade became law. We repent of that action in the Name of Jesus, and we ask You, dear Lord, to bind that spirit and to heal our land. Amen.

· So it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and wore armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of Judah. (Nehemiah 4:16)

4. Catholics Can't Support 'Pro-Choicers,' Church Leaders Say - CNSNews.com

Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, said that a presidential candidate who supports abortion or embryonic stem cell research can't be the choice of a Catholic. "Voters may not morally protect the so-called right to abortion in any way," Pavone told Cybercast News Service. "Therefore, they may not vote for a pro-abortion candidate.

· Father God, we thank You for leaders like Fr. Pavone who clearly see that unborn babies in the womb or embryonic stem cell are clearly children who just need time to grow. The sanctity of life is the first provision of our Constitution . . . Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We pray more people will come to see that fact and then work and vote to protect the unborn.

· So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it. Therefore do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel. (Numbers 35:33, 34)

5. Wolf to Georgetown: Detail Use of Saudi Millions - Investigative Project

A U.S. congressman is asking Georgetown University about its academic scrutiny of Saudi Arabia and its use of $20 million donated by a Saudi prince in 2005. U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) wrote to Georgetown President John DeGioia Thursday, saying he was concerned about how the money was being spent at the university's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. Of particular concern, Wolf said, was the university's role in training current and prospective U.S. foreign service personnel. Read m ore.

- Lord, we pray You will expose those who place U.S. policy under microscope and erroneously find it responsible for fostering anger and resentment among terrorists who are directly involved in terrorism. We pray for the salvation of these people because it is the only way to change them and their ways!

- In that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness. The humble also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 29:18, 19)

6. Senator Barack Obama Sponsors S. 2433: "Global Poverty Act" - Christians United for Israel

Approved by Senate Foreign Relations Committee

S. 2433 reads: "To require the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty , the elimination of extreme global poverty , and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day."

- [This bill was passed in the House by a voice vote on September 25, 2007, as H.R. 1302, and was then referred to the Senate, where it was assigned to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. That committee passed the "Global Poverty Act" on Thursday, February 14, 2008. This bill will now be placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar for a vote by the full Senate later this year.] Pray for the defeat of the Global Poverty Act.

7. Farrakhan Sings Obama's Praises - ABC News

In his first major public address since a cancer crisis, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said Sunday that presidential candidate Barack Obama is the "hope of the entire world" that the U.S. will change for the better.

- Offer praise for this endorsement, as hidden things are being revealed and the "true colors" of certain candidates are being made known. Continue to lift up the voting public in America, that they be given "eyes to see," "ears to hear' and "a heart to know and understand" the true nature of each candidate whose name will appear on the ballot in Novermber. May each voter vote for RIGHTEOUSNESS -- not wickedness!

- "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." (Proverbs 29:2)

8. Muslim with ties to Farrakhan may be headed to Congress - AP

A convert to Islam stands an election victory away from becoming the second Muslim elected to Congress and a role model for a faith community seeking to make its mark in national politics. Political newcomer Andre Carson is the Democratic nominee in a March 11 special election to succeed his late grandmother, Julia Carson, representing Indiana's 7th District. She died in December of lung cancer, and her grandson is seeking to fill out the rest of her sixth term, which expires at year's end. If Andre Carson wins the Democratic-leaning Indianapolis district over a freshman Republican legislator and a longshot Libertarian candidate, he would join Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., as the only Muslims elected to Congress.

· Lord, we pray more people will come to know what the real agenda is with people of the radical Muslim faith. Their intention is to change America into a Muslim nation. Awaken Your people to the dangers in our nation and motivate them to get involved now, while there is still time to stop the onslaught of this dangerous religion on our shores.

· So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. (1 Samuel 30:3, 4)

9. Nader Announces New Bid for White House - AP

Ralph Nader said Sunday he will run for president as a third-party candidate, criticizing the top White House contenders as too close to big business and pledging to repeat a bid that will "shift the power from the few to the many."

· Continue to pray in the Spirit over all matters related to our national election.

· "Pray without ceasing." (I Thess. 5:17)

This Week on Capitol Hill

[Source: citizenjoe.org -- opinions are their own]

Congress distracts itself with a couple of dead-end bills on energy, housing and Iraq this week, while long-stalled action - on the Farm Bill, secret intelligence courts, consumer product safety and patent reform - simmers on the side.

Green for green: The House revives an energy bill that would extend and build out alternative energy incentives. While lawmakers are generally behind the bill's green tax credits, Republicans in the Senate and the president don't like its rollbacks on oil tax breaks that would pay for the green goods - and are almost certain to block final passage.

Forestalling foreclosures: The Senate tosses a life-line to families on the cusp of foreclosure with a bill that would funnel money toward rehabilitating ($4 billion) and refinancing ($10 billion) homes with shaky subprime mortgages. The deal-breaker is a provision that lets bankruptcy judges restructure mortgages for families falling into default.

Snuffing out Iraq: Senators will also test out another almost-sure-loser that would cut off funding for troop deployments to Iraq in four months.
